this was my absolute favorite place I went during my trip to LA. We started with the speakeasy entrance, which was led by a beautiful burlesque dancer. We headed down to the regular bar which is in a house. To be honest, this house was so remincent of my colleges frat houses, it brought the most incredible nostalgia. Once we got our drinks we headed outside to the backyard, and there is an additional bar and fireplace out there. It was after 1am on a Friday and it was like a club. I have marked this place sometime and eventually I just decided to visit it. Its entrance is certainly its best feature it possesses that secret, speakeasy look set-up that makes the entire entrance a bit entertaining and a mystery. It is apparent that much effort was put into creating such first impression, and it is very striking. It is a very dynamic and distinct interior, but at times may be quite crowded and overwhelming. Service was average not horrible, but hardly friendly either. It involved waiting to some extent, and the process could have been more efficient in terms of communication. All in all, it is a cool place to visit once in a lifetime to experience it, however, some areas can be improved. read more

This is real LA spot. A 1903 Victorian era home has been made into a bar and event venue. The decor is amazing. Dark and moody, with perfect accent lighting. On a cool February evening I was able to come to a special evening to see Cannons play a small show. As we made our way inside, our first stop was the main bar. There is a great selection of drinks from which to choose. Our first round was an old-fashioned. I'm always interested to see how different bartenders crafted. It was perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and the right amount of betters for a savory kick. After hanging out for a little while, waiting for the band to start, I went back and got another round of drinks. This time I asked the bartender what she could with gin, and be light and citrusy. She made a lime mint spritz that was sweet and refreshing. Once the music started, we were able to enjoy being outside on the patio and see our favorite band playing 10 feet from us. The small sound system did the job to fill the space. After the show finished, the bar opened up to the public and it got really packed. I checked out No Vacancy for the first time, and the vibe was great. I went for a holiday brand party and the crowd was great. The layout feels similar to The Victorian since it's set up like a house, but you get a cool bar outside and another one hidden inside. The drinks aren't necessarily cheap, ~$45 for two shots but that feels relatively regular for Hollywood. It got really crowded later on but the music saved the night because the DJ was on a heater and kept the energy high. read more

They have various indoor and outdoor areas too, depending on your vibe. One thing I did enjoy is that the drinks are strong here! The atmosphere is laid back and dark. Cool Houston bros bar. Usually a line on the weekends unless you are lucky. Came on a Friday night and it was super busy, but easy enough to get in at 10pm. By 12 it was shoulder to shoulder inside, so snag a table outside if you get there early to enjoy some drinks while it fills up. On the night I went, there was a nice quick burlesque show every hour I would say. Drinks are typical pricing, ambiance here is amazing, super cool vibe, decorated to a T. We also got lucky to get a street parking nearby and it's very cheap comparing to public parking. Hands down to the best bartender ever! He knows how to make a delicious Midori Sour and not a lot of people know about that drink. I'm so glad I came here lol. We also ordered old fashioned and a glass of whiskey. A shocking lack of any staff outside in the line. There were several clusters of people who, of their own admission, said they weren't even 21 and shoving people to the front. I understand the staff does not control who gets in the line but there was actually no one trying to get this under control. Those same people were harassing women in line and calling people slurs. For a club to have no moderation on that behavior is deeply concerning and anyone deciding on a spot might want to reconsider as No Vacancy clearly does not care about your safety. read more

No Vacancy is such a fun experience with a cool atmosphere! The entrance is a little difficult to find. It's inside of a gated parking lot. Look up and you'll see the neon No Vacancy light. SPOILER - To get inside, past the bouncer, up the stairs, choose the door to the far right. You'll enter a room with a woman in lingerie sitting on a bed. She will give you a small introduction and then let you inside. She'll hit a button and the entire bed will move mechanically to the side revealing a set of stairs that go down to the speakeasy. You'll be let out into an indoor area with a bar, dj/dance floor, and tucked away seating area with tables and stools. If you get there early enough, definitely try to snag an outdoor table. Way more vibey and cuter than inside. There's also a smaller bar outside too. There's soft couches that line the exterior with tables for your drinks. The house itself has a Victorian haunted but warm feel to it. All of the tables outside had a reserved sign on them but we asked the security if they were taken and they said we could sit there. Take that as you will! Drinks were typical LA prices - around 18 bucks. They were made well and strong though! Love that this place is an experience. Came early to start the night out but would be super interested to see how it comes alive a little later in the night with more people to use the dance floor! read more

An aesthetic, speakeasy-type bar tucked away near Hollywood Boulevard! It has a mysterious but casual ambiance that is super unique - I haven't seen else like it. When you first enter the venue, you go up the stairs into a room with a burlesque-dressed lady who sits on a bed. From there, you enter a secret passageway that leads to the bar and a garden out back! The drinks themselves weren't anything special and were slightly on the pricier side. A swanky bar and lounge affixed within a restored 20th century Victorian in the heart of Hollywood? I can't say no to that. Definitely one of the most unique bars you'll ever go to. The experience of entering No Vacancy is very interesting and fun. I won't give too much away. But it does give a great speakeasy vibe. They don't have a menu and focus more on the classic and traditional cocktails. My girlfriend got a Bee's Knees and I got an Aviation. The drinks were solid and pretty good value considering it's in DTLA. Only issue for me was that we came on. Thursday night and they had a DJ playing pretty modern hits. I'm usually not opposed to that type of music but considering how much they put into the "experience" of this place, the music threw me off a little. I had a great time nonetheless at No Vacancy. Wow! What an amazing venue and so unsuspecting. I'm an LA native and No Vacancy has been over my head until now. Originally home to Charlie Chaplin just north of Hollywood Boulevard, NV is a converted Victorian home tucked away adjacent to the valet parking in front of it. Going by here before, I thought the red, neon sign "No Vacancy" meant just that! But as an invited guest from a local, nonprofit radio station I help support for an acoustic set, I was all over it. Valet is $20 (convenience, baby). We walked right in, I gave my name and was set to explore a bit before the set. Topo Chico was complimentary at the bar but the bar was flowing and the lines were crazy long! The space was low lit, moody and dramatic yet felt like a "real home." The garden out back a real yard - it just included built in red booths around the perimeter of the yard facing a patio stage with cafe lights to make the mood glow. The yard was packed for the show. Standing room only to see the stage (don't get me wrong - guests still sat at the booths, but couldn't see). The sound was fantastic and makes you forget you're in the heart of Hollywood. I'd love to come back or even have an event here myself one day! Suffice to say, No Vacancy is on my radar! read more

Visiting LA and saw that I had this place stored in my favorites list without remembering why I had in my list. Decided to go there and check it out anyway. Experience, as described to an Angeleno friend, is as follows: I just remembered why I had No Vacancy on my favorites list. This is why!! Legit speakeasy. Solid 10/10. Dad was blows away by the entrance. We had to feel our way through the three doors at the entrance and figure out which one actually opened to let us in. Loved the speakeasy vibes and the bouncers were actually nice lol. It really felt like you were at a house party/frat party and there was plenty of space to dance/hangout in. I would give it 5 stars if the DJ last night was better. He's probably the DJ with one of the strangest playlist I've heard while clubbing. Esp on a Saturday night?? If it wasn't for the rain and us actually paying to get in (and other places charging $60 for cover?!), we would have left almost immediately. How do you go from Unwritten to B* Better Have My Money to Love In This Club to WAP to Don't Stop Believin?? Disappointed with my experience here. Like many of the recent reviews, it took my group (4 girls, 1 guy) a long time to get in-- 45 minutes for us! While I'm sure SOME people had valid reasons to cut the line with the bouncer (ie, had a reservation/bought a table), I guarantee that wasn't the case for all. I saw multiple people cut and were easily let in by the bouncer because they were "priority". The bouncers seem to think they're very important lol. They kept saying the place was at capacity when I personally don't believe it was. One of them also said my group would be next... and multiple other groups got to go in first. Sooo... If you want to have minimal wait: be in a group of girls, wear a full face of make-up, dress so your parents would disown you, and don't be a POC (aka be white). Also, come early. ‍ *spoiler warning* Once we got in, we walked up a flight of stairs, opened the only unlocked door of three, and a lady (in character) opened the book shelf to show us the club. The vibe inside was energetic. The music selection was lively and had a ton of hits (late 90's, early 00's songs). The cocktails were reasonably priced at around $11! That being said, nothing could change my mind after my friends and I had to wait nearly an hour to be let in and seeing dozens of people blatantly cut the line. Other: - They check vax records and IDs (obviously) - There is a "hidden" photo booth (right by the staircase, by the restrooms) but I don't think it's free anymore. The girl bartender on this current Saturday night decided to be veryy rude to us. My friend asked to order a drink because it was an easy order and she replied that she didn't Ike her attitude(when there wasn't one) and gave her a water instead of taking her order. My friend was very clearly not under the influence in any way. We had been waiting for 15 minutes already and people who had gotten inline before us had received their orders. We would have happily been okay with her telling us she was backed up or just busy, but her attitude towards us was uncalled for and honestly crazy. I absolutely adored this place. Granted, I am an early bird when it comes to night life so me and my friends easily walked in with no wait time other than the Covid QR form. It was such an elaborate speakeasy entrance that started the night off on a great note. The bar inside is saloon inspired with an ambient dimly lit outdoor patio that compliments the experience super well. I wasn't sure what to order and the bartender was super amazing. He asked about the tastes I liked and created a perfect cocktail! I loved the entire experience from beginning to end. Probably one of the best bar experience I've had. I love any bars that has an element of the Prohibition Era vibe and No Vacancy did not disappoint. Like one of the reviewers below mentioned, the entrance into the bar alone is worth a visit and similarly, I'm not going to go into further details to ruin the surprise. Once inside, you get totally immersed in the Prohibition Era vibe. There are multiple seating sections both inside and outside. Despite being a very crowded place, the bartenders are extremely efficient, making your drink in a timely manner with the perfect precision and quality. There is no menu, but the bartenders are quite familiar with all the classic cocktails. Just ask and you shall receive. I think the price was also pretty reasonable. Each cocktail is probably about $12-16. I can see why some people give this place a low rating. We came here at 8PM right when it opened, there were plenty of seats at the time but quickly got super crowded within an hour. If you come at 9-10PM, finding a seat can be impossible and I can also imagine that getting in alone would be a wait. Parking is hell. They have a small lot but it's $30 flat. You can try and find street parking, but it's kinda difficult to come by given how popular Hollywood is at night. I would honestly just Uber here and call it a night. read more

Well, okay. I heard of this place, but never been until a connection decided to have their Xmas party here. Parking is already hell in this area, so I knew to prepare ahead of time. After paying at a meter for an hour, I walked from Whitley onto Hudson, where No Vacancy is hidden behind a green gate. When I first drove by, this was locked but since it was after 6p (specifically for this event), the gate was open about 4 feet so I could squeeze through. After getting past the doorman, I was instructed to go upstairs, where I encountered three doors on the left side. I could tell the girl who was behind me never been there either, so I had to explain the door situation to her (one of the three would be open on any given night). This was an interesting, but fun way to get to a bar for sure. There was a 'hostess' who greeted you once you selected the correct door and the bed she was sitting on retreated, revealing a staircase. My heels weren't too crazy about this, but it was the only way down. Although it's fairly large on the main floor, it was freezing due to how chilly it's been, and the doors were wide open entering the back-or was it front-patio where there was another enclosed bar and outdoor seating. This is where the live performances are if there are any. The photographs hung on the wall outside the restrooms were cool to check out as I waited for some time to pass so I could get out of there. I made my appearance, management saw me, had my tacos from the taco truck (this was only for an event, not a regular thing) so it was time to go. As I was leaving through the gate, some cars were starting to park there and I overheard a guy telling the driver it was $30. I don't feel too ripped off now spending $3 for an hour at a meter when I was only there less than 20 minutes. If this is your thing, you'll probably love it for what it is, as for me, I'm glad I visited No Vacancy, but I'm in no rush to return. read more

We came here to celebrate a friends birthday and we were surprised by what a fun table and bottle service experience we had. From getting there, checking in was easy, then once inside our waitress was a sweet lady who was very helpful and fun. We got a prime spot in the house and we were enjoying every second. The music they were playing that night was great and the atmosphere and ambience inside were classy but still fun. I like how the setup reminded me of a backyard house party. Back when I lived in LA in 2016, this was the spot I would take out of town guests to visit because of its unique vibe, cocktails, and shades of a speakeasy. Fast forward 6 years later, a lot of it is still the same. When you walk up, it kinda of a free for all to try and get into the place. Our group was kinda standing around, waiting to get picked out of a crowd to get let in. Luckily we had a good ratio, and didn't have to wait long. When you go in, you walk up the stairs and there's 3 doors you can enter, only one of them opens. You are greeted by the madame of the house, she talks for a hot sec, and then let's you into the bar. When you get downstairs, it's a mixed indoor/outdoor space with one small room inside for dancing and the outdoor area is where a lot of dancing occurs. The DJ on a Saturday night was playing top 40, hip-hop (old & new) which I thought was kinda funny bc it didn't really play into the speakeasy vibe but we had fun nonetheless. Like any club, there's people you gotta look out for, someone tried to snatch a friends purse but the bouncers were quick to get that person out. The drinks were strong and not overly overpriced, which is great being in Hollywood. One thing the pandemic changed is that they don't do the live shows anymore which is a bummer. This is an issue for girls in evening attire, usually it's not built to accommodate a phone, keys, and wallet. Ladies would appreciate the ability to only have to bring their phone and ID. - not enough bathrooms. The DJ was already playing plenty of good tracks, mixing 2000-2010s to current hits (reggaeton, hip hop, etc). He was honestly a star in his own right. The bartenders are also on another level. Friendly, made strong drinks and quick. There were 2 bars with each playing different music. Restrooms were big but can't speak to the state of them at the end of the night.
