I had an extremely disappointing experience at Bar Lis and would not recommend this place based on how my group was treated. We were initially charged $300 just to enter, by the bald black security in the front with no bottle or table service included. Once inside, when we attempted to go upstairs, security told us we would have to pay because we had 3 guys with us!!! We would have not been charged if it was only us girls. What made the situation even worse was watching other guests being allowed upstairs without being asked to pay the same additional fee. When I questioned why we were being treated differently, the security guard told us that if we weren't going to pay, we would have to "wait until he decided" to let us upstairs. I felt completely singled out and discriminated against, especially when we could clearly see that the same rules were not being applied to everyone. Despite everything that had already happened, we still ended up spending almost $1,000 on bottle service. After spending that amount, we were then told that we would not receive a sign because there was now supposedly a $1,000 minimum required to get one. This was especially frustrating because we had been at Bar Lis just ONE WEEK BEFORE, purchased a bottle for essentially the same price, and received a sign without any issue. There was no mention of a $1,000 minimum at that time. How does the policy suddenly change within one week, and why was none of this communicated before we spent our money? Between the $300 entry charge, being told to pay another $100 per person to go upstairs, and then spending almost $1,000 on bottle service only to be given a completely different explanation about their minimums, the entire experience felt misleading, inconsistent, and extremely unprofessional. This also did not feel like an issue with just one employee. Multiple employees were involved in the way the situation was handled, and management did nothing to make us feel that our concerns were being taken seriously. For a venue that presents itself as upscale, I expected transparency, professionalism, and consistent treatment of guests. Instead, we experienced unexpected charges, changing explanations, disrespectful treatment, and what I personally felt was discriminatory treatment. After spending that kind of money and being treated this way, I will absolutely not be returning. read more

But majority of roaming bouncers thought they were important. Just bulldozing their way with flashlights through groups of people, unapologetically, disregarding patrons conintually. Everything was well designed and you can tell everything was meticulously place to curate the best ambience for what this place claims to be. Our server was nice, she was new. She was helpful! We had ordered some drink and just a little share something before we had to go to our show. Afraid, we didn't have enough time to try anything else on the menu, we thought of coming back. At first everything seemed great. Then came the drinks and the shares. Drink was salty... apparently they are aware the drink, la rose, would be "doing that salty thing", so maybe it isn't in my palate. I got another drink, that one was amazing. The came the burrata. For $23, you get the 1 whole slice of toast ( cut in half) and the cheese with the pesto. SUPER SALTY! I don't know what was happening but it seemed like they really wanted to make everything salty. So... ok fine. But with that being said, we each had once slice of bread, we ordered more bread ($4) for a slice cut in half.... The bouncer named mark at the front was really rude. All I asked was how much longer it would take for me and my friends to get in since we were waiting 45 min and we saw how much tips he was accepting to let anyone who just walked to the front. and he called me annoying I wasn't even expecting to be let in instantly, but Mr D with the cowboy hat was really sweet and reprimanded the situation. We had a girls night here & the bouncers were actually super friendly & sweet! But I will say there drinks are not good, idk maybe we didn't order the right drinks... we started off with a cucumber drink, the bartender said he could make it at my friends request & it was realllllly awful... The only possibility redeeming quality is its location/space. The space is nice. It's unfortunate the owners/staff have not figured out how to deliver quality service. This spot offers spectacular views of the city. It's located next to the rooftop pool on the top of The Hollywood Grande. They have umbrellas and sun shades, in case it gets too sunny. At night, there was always a line out the door, but we did get to experience brunch. For brunch, we got the chia pudding, pancakes, breakfast sandwich, and American breakfast. I loved the chia pudding. I'm going to see if I can recreate it at home. It was that good! The breakfast sandwich was pretty big and served with a side of crispy potatoes. The potatoes were really good. They were crispy, but not overly oily. The American breakfast plate was also plenty big. The pancakes were really good and came with freshly whipped vanilla cream. Same side of the street as Mother Wolf, the entrance for Bar Lis is the elevator behind the velvet rope on the sidewalk. I was guided by a nice door guy who gave us access to the top floor. A host stand is right in front as you exit the elevator, and if you turn right from there, you see the fountain in the bar area. If you keep walking, you'll see seating and a dance floor, continuing around to the pool area (had you gone left at the host stand, you would have encountered this area first). Upon arriving early, it wasn't so busy and people were still eating dinner in the same room as the bar/fountain. About an hour later, it was packed! This was on a Saturday, so I shouldn't be surprised. Ended up leaving the party on the earlier side, but I certainly won't hesitate if someone else has their birthday here. read more

That's a good summation of my time at Bar Lis! I'm unsure of the dress code but definitely wear something cute or sophisticated. I'd hate to be underdressed here. You walk to the right of the hotel entrance and find a gentleman at the ready to whisk you inside to the elevators. Hop in and head to the rooftop where we were greeted by a beautiful, tall hostess with a smile. The hospitality here was certainly top notch. We were seated in direct view of the Hollywood hills sign and with perfect views of the sunset. While I want to believe every seat has a great view, we didn't even have to get up to take some amazing photos. A great place to catch up with friends or for an intimate date. Our server was beyond sweet and had great recommendations. Very short review here in that everything was pretty amazing and they are very accommodating. We had some table neighbors that seemed to be a bit more "hyper" than the vibe but it was non issue and handled well. The drinks were amazing, tasty, and potent. My favorite was definitely the Bonnie & Clyde, so give that a shot if you enjoy gin. I didn't use the restrooms but I wish I had to ensure it all matched the vibe they have going. I highly suggest making a reservation. We came here for a relatively early dinner at 6:45pm. It was still quite bright. You do get a good view of Hollywood. I suggest making a reservation for 7pm so you can catch the sunset better. Sunset is around 8pm during summer in LA. This is a roof-top French inspired restaurant, lounge and bar serving a mix of French and Southern California cuisine. For appetizers, we got the Dungeness Crab Cake and the Roasted Carrots. The carrots were cooked nicely and the sauce it came with (which was comprised of sumac yogurt, mint and almonds) exuded great minty flavor and a nice crunch. The crab cake was just ok. For the main courses, the Roasted Chicken came out surprisingly delicious. The exterior was crispy without being dry and the stung honey combined with the Jimmy Nardello Peppers gave this dish a delicious combination of sweet, spicy and savory. The portion was bigger than I expected. My partner got the Smashed Cheeseburger. That was pretty good too. The food, ambiance were both really good. Service was lacking. The servers are really attractive. I just wish they could be more attentive, then this place would deserve 5 star! This restaurant is located inside the Thompson Hotel. I never expected my first visit to be such a disappointing experience. From the moment I walked in, the welcome downstairs was terrible. The Black woman at the front desk looked very well-groomed and stylish, but her attitude, facial expressions, and the way she treated us were extremely unprofessional. I genuinely felt judged and discriminated against, even though I was simply there with my partner and had done nothing inappropriate. When we went upstairs, the receptionist there was very kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, the staff member at the desk upstairs spoke to us in a rude and unfriendly manner. The tone of the conversation made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Because of the poor treatment, I decided to leave without using the service. I honestly don't know what kind of customer service this business is trying to provide. If the staff are too tired, unhappy, or unwilling to serve customers, perhaps they should take the time to rest before coming to work. Guests deserve to be welcomed with professionalism and respect, not made to feel like they are an inconvenience. Even the busboy's attitude did not improve the experience. From the moment we entered until the moment we left, the service was consistently disappointing. This was my first visit, and it will also be my last. I honestly have no idea how this establishment is still open. After reading prior reviews, I can say with confidence that they are accurate--underage patrons are being let in. Security allegedly takes $100 and allows minors under 21 to enter. We went to celebrate my son's birthday, and the experience was ruined almost immediately. The security staff was extremely rude, and we ended up leaving altogether. There is absolutely no reason to treat paying customers poorly. Making an hourly wage doesn't justify acting entitled or disrespectful. Before even reading the reviews, I turned to my husband and said there was no way everyone inside was over 21--and unfortunately, I was right. Bar Lis is a beautiful venue, but the sound system is terrible and the management is even worse. I truly hope someone else considers buying this place and completely redoing it. This is such a cute place! I came here for an after party for a film premiere and had a lovely time! The staff working there were all friendly and the ambiance was lovely! The rooftop was gorgeous with fantastic views of the city. The seating was very comfortable and I felt relaxed and at ease being there. I didn't end up ordering anything but my friend got a drink and told me it was very tasty and perfectly balanced. She loved how strong it was. The menu definitely sounded enticing and the drinks and food items were unique. I also love how they have some vegan items, which were calling my name! I had booked tickets for their Jazz night last Tuesday and came with a group of friends. When we got there, we decided we wanted to eat and asked about booking a table for 5. The host let us know the cost which was 350 for 5 which was soo reasonable! The 350 goes towards your food/drink spend. The portions weren't super huge but the food was tasty! While waiting in line, I observed multiple women being admitted without issue. When it was my turn, the doorman singled me out and refused to allow me entry. Me and my girls always have a great time at Bar Lis, specifically on Tuesdays! SUCH a vibe. We went recently again and were so hungry since we didn't have chance to grab food before going, although the kitchen was about to close, Cole (I believe he said he's the manager) took great care of us! Sat us quickly and treated us with care and attention the entire time. Not to make it about race but as a Black woman I've had many odd experiences being overlooked in nice places in LA. If you like waiting in line for no reason, this is your place. I had a social event here last night and they would not allow some attendees up even though there weren't a lot of people and the event was ending soon. Although they do not post this in their hours, so I'm not sure how true it is, from 9:30-10 pm they do not allow people up. It's a very strange way to run a business, but if it works for them I'm sure things won't change. Additionally some of the staff were very rude when we tried to explain the situation. Their attitude was very haughty, which is not a good look. Once we were finally allowed to go up the place was dead. Some of the people from the event left immediately due to the miscommunications at the line, and some left because the overall vibe was very off. They don't allow you to drink outside, so if you're feeling like taking the scene in while sipping a cocktail you're out of luck. Maybe things change for the better, such as improved communications between staff and guests, rethink that no drinks outside policy, and let go of a silly rule that deceives people into thinking this place is more popular than it really is. Gilles is a perfect host + gentleman and made us feel at home. my friend and i loved our drinks, we ordered the "mon cherie" and "bang-bang." the beautiful entrance leads you to an elevator where you enter into a courtyard style bar, and to your right is the lounge area. from there, you can find multiple doors to the outside walkways and bars. magical experience, intoxicating ambiance, impeccable service. 5/5 read more
