Ambiance could have been enjoyed if not for the oppressive waft of marijuana from fellow diners and wait staff. Difficult to enjoy our food due to the contact high that was inflicted on my party. I guess rooftop dining invites this? They couldn't figure out if they wanted the roof cover open or closed-- that went back and forth a couple times. Dinner on Friday evening- the uninterested waiter was absent so many times that we had to ask the busser (the first time), then a hostess, to find him for us. It has a low brow festive atmosphere, waitstaff not fluent with the menu, loud thumping bass, not consistent with the French bistro vibe advertised on their website. Great for the half-dressed bachelorette party, but I would not describe the experience as upscale. Food was so overpriced for what we got. Braised short rib was heavy, stringy. Loup-de-mer was drowned in heavy sauce and the fish was decidedly fishy. Steak frites were ok. Truffle fries were also drowned in heavy sloppy sauce-- brutal. The chicken was deemed "good". We couldn't bring ourselves to stay for dessert, didn't want to voluntarily pay for more disappointment. More marijuana-suffocation on the double elevator ride down, then a tenuous wait on the sidewalk waiting for the valet. Not a safe environment, gross curb appeal, not classy clientele, overpriced food that could have had more finesse in execution,and an evening of my life that I will never get back. The cons: The food was mediocre at best, especially for the price. The truffle fries were lukewarm and soggy. The braised short rib was grossly unflavored. The chicken had good flavor but not a lick of salt. The broccolini was also not enjoyable. I barely ate my food, and it was not worth taking home. Also, I put in the reservation that it was my friend's birthday. We asked to split the check which she didn't. Then I had to track down the server to have her send over the birthday treat. The decor is old world , sea shanty style. It has a nice roof top section that allows you to downtown from the 15th floor. It's a nice view. From there, if you're dining, take the other elevator to the 14th floor, or head to the 15th floor if you're going to the bar. My party had a reservation and arrived a little early, so we waited in the bar area on the 14th floor. The restaurant is beautiful, from the chandeliers and furniture to, of course, the city views. For a Wednesday, the restaurant was extremely busy and service wasn't the most attentive, but it was still good overall. On a less busy day, I imagine it would be better. The steak frites were great. The steak was flavorful, the sauce was good, and the cheese truffle fries were amazing. I also really liked their Sunset Spritz from the cocktail menu. There are lots of photo opportunities as well. l've been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile. We finally got in and I think it was worth it. The service was great and the food was amazing. We had the preset menu. The starters especially the Pork Belly and the baked Brie were super yummy. My short rib was absolutely melt in your mouth. The sea bass was also a winner. We had the White Chocolate Bread Pudding and the Chocolate Pot de Crème. Both were delicious. I am usually do not like to eat outside because l am a clean freak and don't like bugs sharing my food. My eggs Benedict had zero salt, no flavor what's so ever. Was that even hollandaise sauce? Definitely not for me. The French Toast my cousin enjoyed but you can't really mess up French toast. My other cousin thought the scampi was just ok. We had some mimosas which were solid. They did have live band (small) and the singer was good. After we finished we ventured up 1 more level. It was hot outside. Barely anyone there so we found some seats with umbrellas. Very nice view and the drinks were good. Pricy but good. We sat and had a good time. My wife and I went here for our 27th wedding anniversary. PROS: Cool setting in location to get to the restaurant. You have to go up to the 15th floor and you have a pretty good view of the surrounding building buildings. The drinks that we ordered were OK nothing spectacular but solid. We both enjoyed the food that we got as well. We had the tuna tartar, appetizer and French onion soup, both of which were good. We also got the filet mignon and ribeye steak. Both steaks were cooked perfectly and I appreciated that the ribeye was not too fatty. The potatoes that came with both were good as well. We ordered the white chocolate pudding cake as a dessert which also was also good. CONS: I had made a reservation ahead of time and specifically told them that it was our 27th wedding anniversary. I was not expecting anything spectacular but maybe just some kind of an acknowledgment that we were celebrating that. Yet, nothing was said. We arrived 20 minutes before our reservation and sat in the bar area, which was fine. When we finally got our table, it was located on the side of the building, which did not offer as nice of a view as the other outdoor seating areas. While we were able to go back to the host and ask to sit in the more open patio area, the fact that we were sat where we were originally considering it was our anniversary was not OK with me. When we finally did get our seat, it was a half an hour later, but we understood that because we had requested a table change. Once we were seated, it took the waiter at least another 20 minutes to even come over to our table to take our drinks and appetizer order. In the meantime, while we were waiting during that 20 minutes, a second couple had sat down right next to us, and they had their waiter come up and take their drinks and appetizer order while we were still waiting to even see who our waiter was. When our waiter finally arrived, he was definitely not into it at all as I had to ask him for his name and if he was in fact, our waiter. When the drinks and appetizers arrived, it was delivered by somebody else. It was at that point that we placed our dinner order with a second waiter. At no point did anybody tell us that the waiter was going to change. They just did it without saying anything. We waited another 15 to 20 minutes for our meal to come out which has mentioned above, was solid and the saving grace for all the waiting around we had to do. The staff there seems almost borderline annoyed, leaving us with a feeling that they were there to tolerate us and not provide a great experience. Again, very disappointing seeing as how this was our first time here and wanted it to be a place that we could return to again. Given our experience this time around with the staff, not so sure that we will be heading back down there anytime soon. Finally, the location. It's located in downtown LA, which can always be a challenge getting there not to mention the sketchiness of the area. We decided to valet park our car just because we didn't wanna be walking around on the street outside the building. All in all, while the food was solid, the second seating that we received had good views, the overall experience was one in which we are not sure we will go back, mainly because the service was below average, which in my mind is totally unacceptable giving the prices you're paying for the drinks and food. read more

We were intrigued by the greenery on the 15th floor visible from Pershing Square and had to take two elevator rides to get here, but it is worth it. Never had I like chocolate and fruit together until I finally visited this wonderful restaurant. My friend and I both got the Garden in the Sky 4-course meal at an amazing rooftop building which was worth every price, especially since we both get to share all the plates. Starting off with the starter course, the Fromage (steak and shrimp) were both really tender and succulent to begin with. I also loved everything that the charcuterie board provided. I can tell that all their cheeses are 100% all grass fed, because that cheddar cheese was very sharp yet very flavorful. For the appetizers, we got baked Brie and pork belly. Something about Brie and a little bit of fruit goes really well surprisingly. And their pork belly was amazing. Crispy, not too chewy, and just melts in your mouth. The appetizer course was so delicious that my friend assumed that was the main course, yet it wasn't. That's when we had the Boeuf Bordelaise (braised short rib) and Steak Frites. The short rib and potato puree combo goes extremely well together, and if you think that was good, the Steak Frites, which comes with flat iron steak and truffle cheese fries, were personally my favorite entree to indulge on. Because I'm a huge truffle lover, I might've enjoyed the truffle cheese fries just a little more than the steak, because of how rich and flavorful the fries were. Nonetheless, we finished our main course and I had to remind my friend that we had a dessert course as well. And that's where I discovered that for the first time, chocolate and fruit goes really well together to the point where I almost shed a tear or two, thanks to Chocolate Lot de Crème. Because I also love dark chocolate, the sweetness of the fruit balances the dark rich chocolate pudding. Add in a sprinkle of sea salt and you'll have the perfect balance of what I think is one of the best, if not, the best bittersweet desert that I've ever have. We also had the white chocolate bread pudding and while white chocolate is too sweet for me, this bread pudding, alongside berries, was the perfect amount of sweets for me to throughly enjoy to end this amazing course. Overall, I enjoyed every single dishes they had available. Garden of the Sky is definitely the choice if you want the best time there. 10/10 I would go again. P.S. when I asked the server for medium rare on the steak frites, he replied back, "Hell yeah!" Perch LA is definitely a restaurant with a view. From the live music to the rooftop city lights, the whole place had such a fun and vibrant ambiance. The staff were friendly, bathrooms were clean, and the rooftop after dinner was the perfect spot to hang out with a drink and enjoy the LA skyline. Cocktails were a great start to the night. I had the Summer Solstice - bright, fruity, and dangerously easy to drink. Hubby ordered the Otto, which gave old fashioned vibes. For starters, we shared the surf and turf skewers and French onion soup. Both were delicious, though I do wish the onion soup came with French bread to soak up all the cheesy goodness and flavor. Impressed!!! Food, scrumptious! Views, incredible! Drinks, potent!! Visit was at 8:15pm on 6/5. Thanks to our wonderful service Queen who recommended I get the Ribeye over the traditional steak frites. Kid you not, this Ribeye was trimmed, seasoned, and cooked to PERFECTION!! I cannot recall the last time that I enjoyed a ribeye and was able to eat every single bite on my plate. Ribeye is known for it's marbling, but also notorious for hitting the table with inedible portions of gristle or unrendered fat. Not here mon frère! The ribeye was served with a large portion of SLAPPIN' parmesan truffle fries, the like of which I've never had, and an equally large portion of perfectly textured string beans. For context, we were originally just planning on having drinks, so I had no idea what to expect when it was decided that we were also having dinner. I knew that Perch was renowned for it's views, but I never imagined the food would be this good. I also ordered the pork belly appetizer which was the perfect starter. The belly could have been a little more tender, but devoured it with zero complaints. The accompanying slaw was so good, I could have eaten it as a side on its own. 2 hats off to the BOH and the FOH on this one. Really really well done food. Ribeye plate ~$52 and Pork Belly App ~$17. I tried several cocktails-Penicillin and The Golden Hour and both were fantastic. I especially enjoyed the generous portions of candied ginger that were atop the Penicillin-what a nice and welcomed touch. With the incredible views, I expected the drinks to be in the $20+ range, but most, if not all, were $17 or $18. The drinks were well prepared and also very solid in terms of alcohol content. Remember the Vista Views apartments, where there ain't no vistas and there ain't no views? Well that's because all of the views are right here at Perch. While the inside was well decorated and stood solidly on its own, the outside views were remarkable. I cannot wait to come back to Perch and celebrate another occasion. What a great experience They truly know how to make your birthday feel special. I came here to celebrate my birthday on a busy Saturday night, and from the moment we walked in, the ambiance was amazing and everyone was so pleasant. Our waiter was incredibly nice and accommodating, especially when it came to adding an extra person to our party. I know a lot of restaurants aren't always willing to do that, so it was very appreciated. We also mentioned it was my birthday, and they truly went above and beyond to make the night special. We started with an appetizer, but unfortunately I think it may have been forgotten because we never received it. I was honestly really excited to try it, but even with that small issue, I still wasn't disappointed with the service at all. For drinks, I ordered the spicy margarita and WOW--it did not disappoint It had the perfect amount of spice and somehow made the margarita even better. For my main dish, I ordered the ribeye with potatoes, and when I say it was amazing, I mean it. The steak was packed with flavor, cooked perfectly, juicy, and not dry at all. Easily a 10/10. I was so full I couldn't finish the last piece, but my brother-in-law happily took it because it was just that good At the end of the night, they brought out a glass for everyone to cheers to my birthday, along with a candle to celebrate me, which was such a sweet touch. Perch has been on my to-go list for so long I couldn't recall why I added it. We came here for an early pre-show dinner on a warm afternoon. We sat outside in the patio and the shade wasn't fully effective in blocking out the setting sun. The service was really good. The waitress was attentive and our water was constantly being refilled. We chose a few of their most popular dishes and we all enjoyed our food. The steaks were cooked perfectly but the cuts were good but not great. The frites were not the greatest. Maybe it would've been better if it was a little more well done. we thought maybe just having it plain would be better. But we enjoyed our food and our time at Perch. We did try to go to the bar but you have to be 21 after 6pm so we took a quick look and headed to Grand Central for some ice cream for dessert! read more

This is my third visit to Perch and time to update and elaborate on a few things. Unfortunately Perch LA gets a downgrade in my book. The Bottom Line 3 stars: Trendy vibe and a nice overall environment. Great views and stellar food and drinks. The venue and its amenities lack a bit and the service lacks quite a bit! The overall experience resembles a bit of a tourist trap. Recommended mainly for the quality of its food and drinks! Location 3 stars: DTLA, corner of Hill and 5th on 15th & 16th floors of the Pershing Square Building. There are plenty of paid parking lots as well as the restaurant's valet parking. There is also metered street parking should you be lucky enough to find one. We used the Valet for $17.50 plus gratuity which the restaurant does NOT validate. Venue 3 stars: Nestled on the top two floors of the Pershing Square Building circa 1927, in Italian Renaissance Revival style. Modern and sophisticated smart-casual setting. Nice trendy vibe. Great views of DTLA skyline. Indoor and Rooftop seating. A couple of fireplaces and firepits and some heaters (but definitely not enough - they were out of heaters when we visited on a cooler windy night and that put a hamper on the evening). Mild dress code after 4 PM (no tank tops or baseball caps or flip flops). They take reservations which makes it easy to visit without long waits. Getting from the ground floor to the restaurant is a high-effort exercise during busy times. The elevators are old and small, so only a few people can take it at a time. You have attendants supervising how many people get in, etc. etc. You also have to change elevators on the 13th floor and there is usually a long wait for this second elevator (as there is only one car for this last leg of the journey). Service 2 stars: For an upscale dining establishment, service is sub-par. The servers and front desk personnel are just OK but not friendly, helpful or attentive enough. While nothing bad happened, the frequency and quality of interactions just wasn't there. Food 5 stars: French cuisine with a modern California twist! We started with the Ahi Tuna Tartare and the Baked Brie. For our main courses, we had the Filet Mignon Au Poivre, Little Bunny Frou Frou (Rabit Ravioli) , and the Chilean Seabass. All came in generous portions, nicely plated and delicious. I would order them all again. Food prices were reasonable and on par with similar establishments. We did not try the desserts this time. Drinks 5 stars: Full Bar: Nice assortment of specialty cocktails, wine, beer and soft drinks. Extensive, impressive list of spirits, especially whiskeys. The cocktails look great, feature creative ingredients and taste wonderful. We had the Penicillin, the La Finale (similar to Espresso Martini) and the Penthouse Passion. All were wonderful. My sister-in-law was in the city for a class on Saturday, so I wanted to treat her to lunch for her to actually see downtown. I thought, what better place with a lovely concrete jungle view (hah). We arrived around 1:30 ish and it was a little busy, but we were seated right away on the outdoor patio. She was in awe of the lovely aesthetic and the view. We ordered almost immediately. A lot of hype surrounding this spot and it definitely met expectations. Took my gf here to celebrate our 1 year anniversary, so I had reservations booked through OpenTable in advance. Thought the entrance was cool with the aquariums built into the wall. The hostess was attentive and checked us in in a timely manner. Was unsure if we were going to be able to get a seat on the outdoor patio, but the hostess made it happen. It was a pretty view of the city and it wasn't too noisy out there either. Ideal place for a date night. Server was amazing and explained the menu well. Additionally, the rooftop bar was a nice vibe for a post-dinner drink. Moving onto the food, I saw reviews saying the food was overrated and they mostly went for the view. However, I thoroughly enjoyed it. We went for the Dine LA menu and were happy with the portions of food they served. The set Dine LA 3 course menu was perfect for the both of us. Assorted Charcuterie, 8.5/10: Prosciutto, salamis, and cheeses were all great. Surprised by the portion, since it was more than expected. Some funky cheeses, some more tame. Good variety for sure. Wish they added more gherkins to the dish. Braised short rib, 8.8/10: Very well executed dish. Easily my favorite. You can tell the short rib was braised for a while. The accompanied mashed potatoes and stewed vegetables were great additions. Classic. It was also seasoned exceptionally. A comforting and satisfying dish that is a must try. Would definitely go back for this. Steak and frites, 8/10: Solid steak and frites. Uniquely different with the frites in the cream sauce. I appreciate the flavors with the frites, but it inevitably made the frites a bit soggy. The steak was seasoned well. I opted for a medium rare, but it came slightly closer to medium. Chocolate pot de creme, 6.5/10: We were cracking up for a good minute when the dish first came out because the shapes of the "pots de creme" were vaguely reminiscent of what my toilet bowl looks like after Taco Bell. Anyways, the flavor of the chocolate wasn't too sweet and it was nicely paired with fresh berries. The berries were a nice touch, although I wish they added more. This is a great rooftop restaurant. My dad and I came here just for drinks but in the end the neighbors food looked so good we just had to try it so we got a beef tartere and a burger they were both amazing. The service was great and we didn't have a reservation and we still got seated very quickly. If I ever come back to LA i will come here! read more

This has seriously been on the to do list for many many years as a frequent visitor to DTLA for my food cravings. Visited years ago or as they say back in the day for cocktails only. We finally had brunch and I was disappointed given the 11k+ reviews. We ordered the cheddar bacon burger, rib eye chilaquiles, and steak and fritted. The burger was probably the best with exception of the over slop of the sauce that drenched the brioche bun. The steaks were just mid. The cocktails were on point. Definitely not the go to for brunch but still perfect for cocktails. While I can appreciate vintage and preservation of history the interior decor just felt drab and the bathrooms left much to be desired. Love DTLA so on to the next read more
