Nice looking bar! Fabulous and trendy. I came in pretty early on a Saturday. I noticed a lot of bars don't open til 6/7pm in DTLA. This location is very close to the Arts District. Lots of dancing space inside and out. They have a cute Photo Op in the front with a big heart. Because I it was so early in the day, 4pm, no one else was there. So I ending up just chatting with the bartender, Brandon. He was very nice and personable. He knew a lot about the area which I thought was very nice. Definitely a great spot to hang and enjoy the vibes. $21 for a margarita (Don Julio)

Fantastic drink! The bathrooms were easy to access as well. The space inside was very nice and cute for smaller parties but the noise level can get too loud at times to the point of where you cannot hear others talking. The service was great for drinks!

After having decided we needed to change up from beer to something else, my brother in law wanted a tiki vibe and High Tide came up. After we drove past we thought it was closed if it wasn't for the door guy. We had a dog and a kiddo with us and so the big question mark was if they were cool with both. The door guy was cool to go and ask; he knew dogs were but wasn't sure about the kid. Fortunately, it was quiet enough-it was early afternoon so there wasn't much going on. I could definitely see this place being a club type spot when the sun goes down but in the afternoon it was a nice quiet spot to sit and relax. We were outside but the bartender came out to give us menus but let us know that we would have to go in to order-not a big deal. Our visit the Frose machine was down but neither of us was interested in that. The kitchen wasn't available either but that was fine too. However, their cocktail selection didn't have anything whiskey based so I went with a beer. My BiL went with a one of their soju based cocktails. It was a nice chill place-can't comment on what it's like at night but it's definitely a place I would bring your friends with kids for a nice relaxing day drink.

High Tide was not what I pictured. It's right up against Skid Row so don't come thinking that it's part of the Arts District. The patio looked so cute with the pink tropical vibes but it seemed a bit run down. They currently only offer wine, beer and Soju cocktails. They serve food but we were just here for the drinks! We did really enjoy the drinks but it was one and done for us because there was nothing that really compelled us to stay past that. We went with a Frose and a Malibu Colada. They were both refreshing for a hot day and I thought the Malibu Colada was really unique. Perhaps it would be worth coming back when they have an event going on.

We came here for brunch and thought this place was just okay. The food could have been better. I got the Avocado Toast which was bland and my bf got tater tots, eggs, and toast. We both got their cold brew coffees, which was also just okay. The place was very cute and trendy though. They decorated the place with pink flamingos, palm trees, a bunch of patio furniture, and a mini white garden gazebo - all very Instagramable. If you go inside, the velvet furniture gives you kind of a vintage vibe except with pink and flamingos everywhere. It looked like a very hip and trendy place. When we first went, it was back in August 2019 and there were maybe two other groups there. It was a hot day so they had their misters going and it kind of gave you a cool beer garden-like vibe. You could tell this was going to be the next trendy spot to day drink. I'm not much of a drinker so I can't comment on their drinks but I think it'd be worth a try if this sounds like scene.

I came here black Friday and was able to get metered parking right next to the location. Not sure if I got lucky or if there was no one out that night due to the holiday. There was no one there either so our drinks came our right away. I got the frozen rosé. It was pink and delicious and I finished the whole thing! We were there during happy hour so I got it $1 off. We sat outside and even though it was cool, we had the fire lamp on. It was so pretty outside with the lights and wooden seats. They have multiple tables outside and even a gazebo like corner. They also have a photo booth. All in all, I really liked this location due to easy parking, the affordable frozen drinks, and the ambiance.

Attended an Event for KAJA BEAUTY. The parking area was actually it bad I used e meter for a few hours. The outside was cute, as I walked in the patio it was so pretty, pink chairs beautiful green palms super LA. There was a DJ set up & stage High top tables and a few short ones. Nice size bar Instagram Worthy if that's what you're looking for :) This was my first time here I would definitely want to come back to have drinks with friends.

Great new place for collaboration in DTLA! Don't let the exterior fool you as High Tide is neighboring the Toy district, Arts district, and skid row. The interior is nice and modern with art installations, orchids as table placement, and other pleasing to the eye items. Spacious, nice seating, free WiFi and power source, food and drinks. There is also a patio area that would look very neat after being lit up at night as well as a machine to blow glass? Maybe they have an event periodically. Parking: Street VERDICT: Rinse and repeat

My friends wanted to get together and chill on a Friday night. I chose this place, which easily accomdated our group of 7. It is a wine bar. You order wine, beer and/or h'ordeurves here. To my surprise, if you're hungry, they also have really delicious burgers (which sets itself apart from all other wine bars). A DJ plays classic hip hop songs from the 90s. Cute pink decor, whimsical flamingos, lanterns in their outdoor patio with heat lamps, while you sip on your drink and chat with friends, watching glass blowers make art. They will offer glass blowing classes as well. It is located on the border of Little Toyko and Arts District, unfortunately near skid row. As I walked on the street, I did not see a single homeless person. There was plenty of parking. I ordered a glass of Friends gerwurstraminer blend (hey for $8 what a deal) crisp spring white slight sweet, and a Moubuzz grenache/syrah/mouvoudre (if you like French Rhone valley red blends, this is it) a very clear light slightly sweet pleasant wine. I like these grape varietals, and they were good. Other drinks they have include mimosas, frozen, non-alcoholic concoctions, coffee/tea. For food, most of us orderd the Roasted Mushroom sandwich which is divine and House Roast Beef burger. See pics. I'm in love with this place.

Drinks: Really, really good. My absolute favorite was the boat drink with foam on top, but we split several others and I liked everything we tried. Vibe: Unmatched. There are several drinks on the menu with a theatrical presentation that gets the whole bar involved. The space is small, so you'll inevitably have your conversation interrupted by an alluring siren's call or some ceremonial rowers. This is a crucial part of the tiki experience for me. Tiki cocktails have expanded beyond rum into smokier tequila and mezcal drinks, which are more my speed. Lucky Tiki takes planning. You'll probably need a reservation weeks ahead and yes, they'll politely kick you out after 2 hours. These drinks are delicious and designed to ruin your decision-making skills. Worth it. Uber home, obviously. This spot is "hidden" in a bowling alley, and inside you'll find retro lighting and decor and tiki cocktails. One drink came with bubbles, another arrived flaming, and one to a soundtrack of thunder and lightning. It's part cocktail bar, part performance, and the staff is committed to the bit. The sauce helped bring some juiciness back and balanced it out. The bluefin tuna bibimbap was pretty enjoyable. The tuna tasted fresh and the textures worked well together, but the dish could have used a little more seasoning to make the flavors pop. The perilla was a great touch though. It added a slightly minty flavor that complemented the tuna without taking over the dish. The beef short rib was easily the standout. PERFECTLY cooked, incredibly tender, and seasoned just right. The richness of the meat paired so well with the lettuce wraps that it almost feels like they should automatically come with the dish. Service was good and everything came out smoothly. It wasn't your typical corner haunt. There was an intentionality here that turned a simple evening out into a genuine education. The curation of spirits was nothing short of impressive, but what set the experience apart was the conversation. I arrived knowing the difference between a glass and a bottle, but left with a newfound appreciation for the nuances of rum, the craftsmanship behind a smooth whiskey, and the unexpected complexities hidden within a well-made vodka. Each pour came with a story, a history, and a level of expertise that transformed every sip into a lesson. The atmosphere was the perfect anchor for it all--utterly chill and devoid of the frantic, forced energy you find elsewhere. It was the kind of place where the music sits at just the right volume and the lighting invites you to actually linger. It was refreshing to find a spot that treats its craft with such respect while keeping the vibe completely grounded. I walked out feeling a little more cultured and a lot more relaxed. Consider this my official notice: I'll definitely be back.

From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've been transported somewhere else. Every room is thoughtfully designed, and the atmosphere is immersive and unlike anything we've experienced before. The storyteller was welcoming, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. I really enjoyed learning about the history of alcohol and the stories behind each tasting. The cocktails were definitely on the stronger side, but you could tell they were crafted with high-quality ingredients. Unfortunately, our experience was somewhat tainted by our hostess. She came across as impatient and unwelcoming, which set the tone early on. When we first entered, we were each handed a small glass of liquid, and then she immediately walked away without explaining what it was or what we were supposed to do with it. We assumed it was a welcome drink, so we all took a sip only to discover it was actually a palate cleanser. A little guidance would have gone a long way. The next room had a beautiful bayou-inspired setting. While the historical information was interesting, I found myself wishing the experience leaned more into the mystical or magical themes that the venue seems to promise. One thing worth mentioning is the restroom setup. I don't mind coed restrooms, but there was no signage explaining that the restroom is shared with two open stalls. Some guests may appreciate a heads-up, especially those who might feel uncomfortable or triggered by that arrangement. After the tastings, you're taken outside. A few of us stopped to use the restroom first, and when we returned, our friend had already left the table and all of our drinks had been cleared away. We were disappointed because we hadn't finished them. Our friend had been told she couldn't take the drinks with her, but when we returned we could take them outside. She was told that they'd be there when we got back. We were disappointed. The outdoor portion of the experience also felt a bit rushed. We barely had time to enjoy our drinks, let alone take photos of the beautiful space. The beignets at the end, however, were absolutely delicious and a highlight of the evening! Finally, we were escorted to the members-only bar, which was stunning. It gave off major Harry Potter vibes with its hidden, magical atmosphere. One of my friends was still finishing her drink on the patio since we couldn't legally walk on the sidewalk with it. Our hostess told us she'd come back for us but she never did. After waiting quite a while, another staff member happened to walk by and kindly helped us. Once inside, everything turned around again. The bartender was warm, friendly, and helped us choose drinks off the menu. I ordered the piña colada, and while it was much stronger and different from the traditional version I'm used to, it was absolutely delicious!!! Despite some service issues and inconsistent communication, I would still recommend Obscure. The concept is unique, the cocktails are excellent, and the venue is truly one of a kind. I'm hoping our hostess was simply having an off day, because with more attentive service, this experience could easily be five stars.

This is how we ended up at Thunderbolt, a buzzy bar in Echo Park, just far enough away that we'd never made our way over. I loved it immediately. Thunderbolt has the friendly, comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar and the hip aesthetic and high-level cocktails of a millennial boozer destination. (Not that young people can't or shouldn't hang out here, but it seems especially geared toward people like us, who drank at Walker Inn a decade ago.) We ended up sitting next to a guy who regularly drives up from Palos Verdes. I guess the place gets pretty busy, but it was ideal on a Sunday night. Happening but not crowded, with just enough space at the bar for us to grab two seats together. The bartender was great, super helpful and welcoming. He also made excellent drinks. Thunderbolt is one of those bars with an encyclopedic illustrated book for a menu. Not a long menu, just a detailed one, with a lot of information available about each drink. We got a Liquid Picnic and a Barcelonnette--just one round to close out the weekend. Both were delicious. The Liquid Picnic was a smooth, savory gin martini made with London dry gin, tomato, citron, vermouth, rosemary, and black pepper. I learned from the book that it used clarified tomato water. (There was also further reading about the clarification process.) The Barcelonnette was a mezcal sour with Suze, passionfruit, and lime, the foam made without egg white through some geeky mixologist process. Thunderbolt is not our neighborhood bar, but we plan to go back when we can to check out the rest of the menu. It's a wonderful place, well worth a jaunt on the freeway.
