beef wrap

I've been going to the Sultan Chicken in DTLA for about two years now. It has become my little sanctuary break when I'm passing through downtown LA. I always stop enjoying the simple, clean atmosphere, good food, and the staff who are friendly and authentic. While I've only tried a portion of their extensive menu, what I've had, I've enjoyed. While we've all had good falafels, the unique take on falafels that Sultan Chicken makes are particularly flavorful and fresh, and consistent for each time I've had them, in either wrap, plate, or side. It normally come with fresh veggies and pickles (lift and spicy peppers)--I'm a huge fan of lift (turnip pickles), and they don't disappoint in freshness and crispiness. Their toum is delicious and enhances everything you spread it on. I've also enjoyed the rib eye steak kabob--which is excellent, tender and juicy as if it was right out of a high-end steak house. The hummus is great, but I'm a huge fan of their mutabal--the eggplant dip--and its smoky goodness. The beverage selection is great. Not on the menu, but readily available is za'atar on flatbread (man'oushe), which you can get just crisped up or made into a sandwich with veggies. I love za'atar, and I love Sultan Chicken's za'atar sandwich, so much that I order it in addition to whatever meal I ordered. Don't judge until you try it. The staff is wonderful. It feels good to be recognized as a repeat customer when I come in--as if you are visiting family. The service is great; food is delivered fast with friendly demeanor--and any question or request is met with gratitude and respect. The prices are reasonable and even though I don't have a lot of means to spend, I can feel confident that I can order a lot of food without breaking the bank. The dining area is clean and big enough to accommodate larger crowds while still being comfortable for you to enjoy your food. The bathrooms are clean. A special note--most of all the cooking is done within view--complete transparency that definitely demonstrate a well deserved "A" grade from the County. If you like Mediterranean food, I suggest checking the Sultan Chicken out, I guarantee you'll be happy with the results. (I should add that I've never had their chicken--something that I will have to remedy soon and I will update when I do!)

I've been wanting to try this place for years & finally stopped in. The place is huge for a DTLA eatery in the heart of the jewelry district with lots of seating for dining in. I ordered the chicken shawarma plate & asked for no rice just hummus. I also ordered a side of falafel (2) pieces and garlic paste. Total came to over $27 which was a huge surprise for a lunch meal. Everything was delicious and flavorful. The falafel was seasoned perfect and not too dry inside! The hummus was creamy & DELICIOUS just the way I prefer it! It came with a cabbage salad which was great & crunchy along with pita bread which I wish I asked to leave off. Oh and I almost forgot they added a very spicy roasted Serrano pepper along with pickled turnip. It definitely made each bite that much better. Over all I took a star away for the cost but I would definitely try them again to taste their Gyro. Yummy

Till I see you next

I have been coming to this place since 2014! Used to be everyday since I worked in downtown. Now I make trips from Orange County to come back and eat the delicious food that I miss so much. My whole family loves the food too. Amazing food and amazing people. Can't wait to come back again.

Chicken Combo Kebab Plate Lunch

This is my new chicken kebab spot! Everything was delicious and everyone from the cook to the owner, Alex, was super attentive & welcoming. I felt like a guest in their home & the food was great. I will be returning soon.

Love the food from this place. It's a very nice area with a walking distance when in the jewelry district. The service was fast and very attentive. They helped us right away and we didn't really wait. Will continue to come back for more of their half chicken plates!

Delicious chicken wrap! Made by Fernando! Thanks Sultan chicken!

What a great kick off! As for our mains, we both ordered a variation of the combo plates. I had the chicken tawook and beef. The Mrs. had the chicken and lamb. All good. Based on the food alone, we would recommend this place to anyone with a beating heart and more importantly, a mouth. This is quality food at a quality price. The atmosphere? Really great. It's a little dark and twinkly inside which sets a nice tone. There is cool artwork adorning every piece of wall, the place is very easy on the eyes...including the restrooms. Very clean. Our sever, didn't catch his name, but what a nice dude. Was super helpful without being "too much" he should teach a server class. He's pretty much who you want taking care of your table. He knew the menu well and made great suggestions. It was actually refreshing. We will come back, most likely with the family. Our waiter told us that they can accommodate larger groups which is great. I recently ate food at Saffy's and I didn't enjoy it one bit. The servings there are too small, too pretentious and too overpriced. Open Sesame is the exact opposite and that's why it rules. A wonderful experience in Beverly Boulevard.

I finally had the chance to stop in for a solo early dinner, but unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to my expectations. I ordered the Lule Kabob Combo ($22), which included skewers of minced beef and chicken, rice, veggies, pita, hummus, and a side salad. The highlights of the meal were definitely the salad and the grilled tomato; the pomegranate seeds in the rice were also a nice touch. However, the meats weren't to my taste--the chicken had an odd aftertaste, and while the beef was better, neither really worked for me. Adding the provided sumac and lemon helped, but I wouldn't order the kebabs again. Additionally, the hummus lacked creaminess, and the pita tasted like it was mass-produced rather than fresh. On the positive side, the portion sizes are very generous for the price point, and I left feeling full. I also have to mention that the patio is adorable and very "Instagrammable," so it's a great spot if you're looking for a photo-friendly environment. A quick note for future visitors: they are currently having issues with their card reader and are requesting cash or Zelle. It felt a little unusual to be rung up on a register only to pay via Zelle, but it wasn't a major deal. While I appreciated the atmosphere and value, the food itself just wasn't for me, so I likely won't be returning.

Their arayes are a must -- it's basically like a lahmajun with two pieces pressed together, and it's insanely good. I usually go all in and order the tabbouleh, babaganoush, a pound of lula kebab, and shish kebab. Honestly, if you're with 2+ people (or even just really hungry), ordering by the pound with sides is way better value than getting individual plates. You get more variety and it just feels like the right way to eat here. Every now and then I'll switch it up and get the liver plate -- it comes with tons of greens and onions, and when you wrap everything in their fresh pita, it's incredible. Not an everyday order, but when you're in the mood for it, it hits. If you dine in, the indoor decor is super nice and really gives that authentic Mediterranean vibe. They also play a lot of 90s music, which somehow fits perfectly and adds to the whole experience. I've dined in plenty of times and the service is always solid -- staff is friendly and attentive. Just a heads up, food can take a little longer sometimes, but that's because they're always busy and everything is made fresh, so it's worth the wait. I've also done takeout here more times than I can count -- probably over 100 orders at this point -- which says everything. This is easily one of my go-to spots and I keep coming back for a reason.

From the moment we arrived, the vibe felt off. The host who seated us (who later turned out to also be a server) left us at the table, and no one approached us for about 10 minutes. When a server finally came over, the first thing she said was "Ready? Ready?", no greeting, no welcome, nothing. We were never brought water. I had to ask a busser for it because the server walked past our table multiple times, clearly saw us, and chose to ignore us. The food runner was also rude, he dropped the plates on the table without saying a single word. Throughout the entire meal, no one checked on us. No "How is everything?" No "Do you need anything?" Nothing at all. Meanwhile, we noticed that nearby tables were being greeted, checked on, and treated kindly. When we asked for the check, the server literally threw it on the table without saying a word. The experience was so bad that we decided not to leave a tip; Something we never do, especially since we truly value good service and I personally work in the restaurant industry. I don't know if the treatment had anything to do with how we looked or how we were dressed, but I've never felt so ignored and uncomfortable in a restaurant before. The food may be fine, but the service completely ruins the experience. I would not return or recommend this place.

Out server Emily was a delight. So friendly and accommodating (and thanks again for the Baklava!) We had the lamb shwarma plate and the fried chicken plate, both with hummus. Also a side of the Za'atar/sumac fries. Fries came out first PIPING hot, crispy, seasoned perfectly nom nom. The entrees quickly followed. The lamb was so tender and juicy and bursting with flavor. And the fried chicken was AMAZING. Shwarma that is breaded with an amazing mixture and fried. Genius! The plates also came with hummus topped with whole chickpeas (YUM), dilled rice, a cabbage salad and other greens, grilled pita bread, olives and my personal favorite, pickled radishes. Many reviews describe them as beets (which I also love) but these are radishes and they pair so well with the rich meat. An umami bomb! Portions HUGE (we have a full meal waiting in the fridge) and prices very reasonable. Patio is a very fun hang with pretty lights. My only knock is on the chairs which are not exactly "comfy." But that's a trivial issue. Service was attentive and staff so friendly and helpful. I can't remember Emily's colleague's name but shout out to her and her Rasputin's shirt (yay Berkeley vibes.) She was great. We will definitely be back at Dune soon!

Could be because it was Sunday and there was a Farmers Market nearby, but still something to consider. We ordered the Lamb Plate ($26). Portion was solid and the plate is actually pretty interesting -- lots of different sides (flatbread, greens, olives, pickled turnips, etc.), so it doesn't feel boring. That said, the lamb itself was just a few small pieces and it was ground. I would've preferred more actual meat Tried the rosemary lemonade too, but didn't really taste any rosemary. Just a regular lemonade, slightly sweet and sour. Also you pay upfront right after ordering. We sat outside on a small patio facing Glendale Blvd. It's a tight space, and at one point someone from the street was walking around nearby talking to themselves, which made the experience a bit less comfortable. Staff was friendly and service was quick though, no issues there. Also, no public restroom, so keep that in mind. Overall, not bad. I was hungry, so I finished everything pretty fast, but it didn't really stand out enough for me to make a special trip again.
