Stumbled across this spot with some friends as we were looking for a dinner spot in the Highland Park area! We enjoyed our experience and the service was attentive. The portions were quite generous making the food great for sharing. They also provide complimentary toasted bread and great dipping sauces. What I tried: - Fried yucca - a classic and great way to start the meal - Arroz chaufa de mariscos - shrimp, squid, mussels and fried rice. This was yummy and easily large enough to share. However, the rice was a bit too much on the salty side - Tallarin saltado de carne - sirloin beef strips with spaghetti and sautéed with onions and tomatoes. So delicious, but I wish they were a bit more generous with the amount of beef given the price - Causa de Cameron acevichada - smashed potatoes with shrimp ceviche. Only available on Fridays/weekends. Beautiful presentation and tasted as good as it looked Overall a great spot to try Peruvian food in a comfortable, casual setting. I definitely had higher expectations for this place. We'll start w/ the good: - service was fantastic - food arrived promptly after ordering (but it was empty at 1pm on a weekday) - portions are good size - papa rellena appetizer was really tasty The not so good: - the ceviche was a bit plain. And yes, less is more, but I think it was too little flavor. The sweet potato and corn came separately, which is kinda odd. I visit Rosty often, and it never disappoints. This time we ordered takeout, and I'll admit I was a little concerned that the food wouldn't be as fresh as dining in, but I couldn't have been more wrong. Everything arrived hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. We ordered the whole chicken meal with three sides, and every item was a winner. The grilled chicken was cooked to perfection, it was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor in every bite. The plátanos were caramelized just right, sweet and melt in your mouth delicious! The yucca complimented the meal as a whole, and the beans are always a must order for me, they're consistently flavorful and comforting. And then there are the sauces, which are also stars of the show. They take an already great meal to the next level, adding the perfect kick of flavor to every bite. The only downside to ordering takeout is the amount of sauces given didn't suffice with the meal. Other than that, I have no complaints. Friend randomly found this place while we decided to get dinner last min. Peruvian restaurant popular for their lomo saltado, ceviche, and rotisserie chicken. The ceviche had the freshest seafood but was also very sour. My eyes got a workout from involuntarily squinting from the sourness. It paired well with the choclo, corn nuts (forgot the name), and sweet potato. The lomo saltado was good but I'd recommend having it before the ceviche (before your taste buds go for a wild ride). Service was impeccable and I've never felt so well tended to, in such a warm, hospitable way too. Really great Peruvian flavors in the area. I had the lomo saltado and those flavors definitely hit. Exactly what I expected a lomo saltado to taste like: tender meat, tomatoes with a nice bite, and crunchy fries. But once they soaked up some of that sauce, yumm, amazing. I also had the maracuya (passion fruit) drink with real passion fruit and that was everything! The right amount of tart and sweet, very refreshing. The service was great, friendly, and attentive, and the outdoor seating was where we sat because I had my dog, Charles, with me. I quite literally followed my nose to this place while on the hunt for something to eat. I haven't had the pleasure of eating a lot of Peruvian cuisine, but if it's anything like this place, I have a whole lot more to look forward to in the future. My chicken sandwich came on a fluffy bread and was filled with fresh purple onion and lettuce which gave it a very nice flavor profile. They gave us table bread with an array of sauces for our food and they were all magnificent, while I'm an eternal student in cuisine, from my best guess since I didn't have a chance to ask, was a deeply rich and flavorful salsa verde, a very light djion mustard, and a buttermilk ranch of somesort. All three were very welcome additions to our food. I also had some passionfruit juice, which was as sweet as it was refreshing. We enjoyed the food and experience. We walked in early and were greeted and seated immediately. The music was kind of loud. Dried bread and dipping sauces were brought while we perused the menu. Our food came quick. First was the chicken soup we ordered as an appetizer. It was delicious! Warning - the red salsa side dish is super hot. We tested it first, added a small splash, and loved it. Next was a sliced beef and marinated onion sandwich. It was well filled and really tasty, our favorite of the night. The green salsa that comes with it is a perfect compliment - savory and spicy like a molé, but not too hot. We will order this again. Then came the beef heart, not a dish for everyone, but a personal favorite. Seasoned with a great dry rub and cooked on wood skewers, it was on par with the best yakitori I have ever had. What made it even better, however, were the sides. The hominy was perfectly chewy and seasoned. Mixed with the green salad, the potato chunks, and some of the green and white dipping sauces, well, it was an excellent compliment to the dense beefiness of the roasted heart chunks. OTOH, the salsa that comes with the beef heart, while full of chopped scallions and such, was far too sour for my taste. It was like pure lime juice. I tasted it and set it aside, only adding a few bits into my mix of sides. The final nice touch was the price. Total for three dishes was $40 before tax and tip. We will be back. The closest public parking lot is a couple blocks to the north, but we found a metered spot right out front. I didn't like that the meter needed a credit card or app, but that's the way things are going. read more

I came a couple of months ago, and I forgot to write my review. I discovered this cozy spot passing by one day. I love Peruvian food, and Rosty's most certainly doesn't disappoint! For real tho! When you walk in, it's a great vibe! The music just makes you just want to dance! It's clean and open, with such a friendly and informative staff! All their dishes are and I can't get enough of their bread and butter..... but their ceviche!! I havent tasted ceviche as delicious as theirs! I love the amount of citrus they use! The flavors of sweetness from the sweet potato and red onions blend perfectly well in this dish! The different types of corn, that you add choclo (similar to hominy) and cancha (similar to corn nuts). Omg! the textures and flavors make this ceviche a different and unique seafood dish! My favorite dish has always been tallarin saltado, which was cooked to perfection! My date had the lomo saltado, which he truly enjoyed! I first visited Rosty Restaurant in 2022 on a weekday, and it wasn't too busy, which was great. The food was amazing, and the portions were huge definitely worth it. I recently went back on Mother's Day and recommended it to my sisters since they love trying new restaurants. We went here after lunch, and it was pretty busy. It was also really hot inside I don't think they have AC or fans. Despite that, the food was just as delicious, and the serving sizes were still big. I tried the ceviche, and it was amazing I highly recommend it! If you have a big group, get the Jalea de Pescado y Mariscos, a mix of different fried seafood. And of course, if you go to a Peruvian restaurant, you have to get Lomo Saltado it's heavy because of the fried potatoes, but absolutely worth it. They have an expansive Peruvian menu with almost every category of cooking that you might be interested in (stir fried noodles, rices, ceviches, appetizers, stews) and amazingly, they're all done well. In my visits, I've tried the tallarin de res, tallarin de pollo, aguadito (salty), causa, papa relleno, Jalea (love this, huge portion), ceviche clasico, Ceviche Mixto, and Lomo saltado. My best friend in grammar school was Peruvian. Her mom was a good cook, and I would take every opportunity to stay for dinner. I've been wanting to try Rosty since it opened and finally had the opportunity. The restaurant serves authentic Peruvian cuisine with a focus on seafood & soups. We found a table, and he brought us some menus. The ambiance is casual and the exposed brick walls & décor give it a warm, cozy feel. We were undecided about what to order so we asked Cesar for recommendations. He said Ceviche was their specialty, so we requested the Ceviche Mixto (spicy) to share. While we waited for our food, complimentary fresh bread arrived with 3 dipping sauces, which are made in house. They are bombtastic! The Aji Verde was spicy, Aji Amarillo was mildly spicy, and the Aji Blanco was mild. The Ceviche Mixto was a mixture of white fish, shrimp, squid, & mussels served with andinian corn (choclo), corn kernels (cancha), & sweet potato. Cesar suggested putting the corn on top and mixing it in. The cancha added some crunchiness to the dish. The fish was fresh and perfectly marinated. The marinade was tasty - a nice balance of citrus & spicy. The serving size was generous. We couldn't finish it all even though it was the best ceviche ever! Ok, this might be my favorite place to eat at for the moment because the food was delicious, hearty and grabs your soul. The server recommended their roasted chicken which didn't disappoint and came with a mild aji and two creamy ranch and lemony sauces. The la copa nostra was all right but I did like the presentation with the fried shrimp and calamari on top with the cooked fish, shrimp and mussels in a lime like sauce. We came in on a Friday night without a reservation (which are recommended) but we were lucky enough to get a table. This is some of the best Peruvian food I have had in the city. The lomo saltado had tender and flavorful beef and the fries tasted more like freshly cut potatos, not frozen. La copa nostra is a must order for seafood lovers. There was a variety of raw fish and squid topped with crispy shrimp and more squid. They have a clean bathroom, cozy ambiance, and helpful staff. We parked at the groccery store across the street and had no issues but do so at your own risk. Will be back and I def recommend this place! read more

Probably the best Peruvian food I've had in LA. We started with La Cops Nostra. An interesting dish with fried seafood and Cerviche. It was tasty. We both had Saltado. I discovered the signature Chicken dish years ago. Normally we go to El Dorado in Pasadena I believe it is. I had been wanting to try this place. To sum it up..Amazing. Rosty has really good and diverse food and drinks. We tried Peruvian classics like lomo saltado and chicken but also chaufa which had almost like an Asian style to it. The chaufa and chicken were super good. The chaufa was hearty and rich but the freshness of a lot of vegetables. The chicken was nice and smoky and when great with the amazing sauces they provide. The lomo saltado was good but I've definitely had better. The beef was overcooked and the fries were undercooked. I also think thinner fries would have worked better so you could more easily mix with the onions and steak. Overall the food was also a little bit too oily. The finish on a high note, though, the chicha was one of the best things I've ever drunk. It tasted like Christmas and was warm despite being cold. read more

Absolutely terrible and inept service during the entire meal, even with almost no one else eating and plenty of staff. I also don't think I've ever had someone take my card with the bill before and then not bring it back for nearly 10 minutes, I had to walk over and demand it and the check. It took me over 15 minutes after being done to actually leave, just totally incompetent service involving multiple people. Your sauces also suck for a Peruvian place, 2/3 of them are just like mayo with no flavor and you can only spare tiny little plastic ramekins of them? You run out of money to buy bottles or luxuries like ceramic or metal ramekins? Like what? It's not a fast food place. My friend recommended and wanted to come here for dinner because they offer Aji de Gallina, which most Peruvian restaurants don't offer on their menu.
