I've had these photos sitting in my camera roll for quite some time, and I kept telling myself, "I'll leave a review soon." When I finally logged into Yelp to do just that, I was genuinely saddened to see that this place has since closed. It honestly broke my heart, because this was one of those dining experiences that truly stayed with me. From the moment we arrived, the ambiance was stunning--beautiful rooftop vibes, warm energy, and a space that immediately made you feel like you were about to experience something special. The food itself was absolutely phenomenal. Every dish we tried was thoughtfully executed, beautifully plated, and bursting with flavor. You could taste the care, creativity, and intention behind each bite. The Peruvian inspiration throughout the menu was both authentic and elevated, striking the perfect balance between comfort and sophistication. One of the most memorable parts of the experience was the chef herself coming out to introduce herself. She was incredibly kind, welcoming, and passionate. You could tell she truly poured her heart into her food. She took the time to explain the inspiration behind the dishes, and it made the entire meal feel even more meaningful. That level of personal touch is rare and so appreciated. Looking back at these photos now just reminds me how special this place was. Delicious food, a talented and thoughtful chef, and an overall experience that left a lasting impression. It's such a shame this spot is no longer around, because it truly deserved all the love and recognition. If the chef ever opens another concept, I will absolutely be first in line. Modern Peruvian inspired rooftop restaurant at the Hoxton Hotel on Broadway in Downtown LA. The elevator is straight from the entrance, and you'll see the sign that will instruct you to press "R". It's a small open air space, and it can get full right at dinner time, but if you go right as they open at 5pm, you'll be fine without reservations. The menu is limited, but it's all delicious! The Yuca Fries are a must! Fried and topped with chorizo. All of the sides sounded really good, but these are the best! The thigh meat chicken skewers are perfectly sauced, and can be ordered as an appetizer to be shared by two. All of the main dishes are meant to be shared. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hoxton Hotel for our LA trip and decided to dine here for dinner as it was conveniently located on the rooftop of the hotel. We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Sunday without a reservation, but we were immediately seated upon arrival. The ambiance was relaxing and calm with a resort-like interior. Our server was attentive, yet very respectful of our private space and time, which we greatly appreciated. We never felt rushed, and were able to enjoy the relaxing time. Here is our order: Chicha No Nada with Pisco: A very refreshing drink! Adding pisco was a right choice, making it a perfect cocktail to start off the vacation. Bass Ceviche: A great Peruvian-inspired dish! Highly recommend adding the crispy quinoa crusts for additional $3. Wood-fired Skirt Steak: This dish is very similar to Lomo Saltado, which is our favorite Peruvian dish. Steak was cooked to perfection. Yuca Fries: This dish was very interesting, featuring chorizo, yuzu-cilantro, pickled ajis, and cotija. It was delicious and perfect as a side dish. While the food was excellent, the portions were quite small for dishes that are "meant to be shared" as descrived by our server. We had an 8:00 PM reservation at Cabra but didn't get seated until 8:50 PM. Thankfully, the managers were incredibly kind and took great care of us, which helped ease the long wait. Once we were seated, everything from that point on was spot on. We got seated on the rooftop next to a little pool since there was a big group inside, but honestly, I loved it--amazing views up there. We ordered at the bar and they brought everything out to us. On the rooftop of The Hoxton is this wonderful Peruvian restaurant. Their indoor outdoor seating is split with the beautiful pool deck offering beautiful views of DTLA city scape. We made reservations and were promptly seated. You can tell it gets more loud and lively longer into the night. Plates are tapas styled and filled with so much flavor. Every dish was incredible. Really enjoyed it. Went here to celebrate my birthday and had a lovely time. The food was really original, with interesting twist on Peruvian food. Our server, Courtney, was amazing. She asked immediately if we had any dietary restrictions and when we informed her one of our party had a gluten allergy, she brought out a menu that she had specifically marked. My favorite food experience in 2025 thus far! I spent my birthday here with a total of 8 people. It was such an enjoyable experience, their service was accomodating, fast and friendly. The food was phenomenal that it was hard to pick favorites. The semi-outdoor seating was warm enough for a winter night. Ambiance is warm lighting with hip decor. The food is tapa style so our table ordered a couple. The crowd favorite and I think are a must were the Bass Ceviche and Tuna&Tots. I think you can never go wrong especially the dishes are by Chef Stephanie Izard. The dishes are more Peruvian inspired but as someone who loves Peruvian food, I enjoyed them. The Papa Huancaina paired so well with dishes, just the right amount of crisp with the potatoes and the sauce wasn't too overwhelming. Food was great. I ordered one drink: PISCO PAINKILLER and it was all foam, ice, and only 3-5 sips of the drink itself. Not worth it for only a few sips. It was cashless payment. I just saw my receipt and there are all these up charges: 1% service charge, 4% benefits surcharge, and another charge to use the cashless Sunday platform fee of $1.49, plus automatic gratuity, in case you didn't know and you tip on top of that. An absolute gem! When you walk in, you'll need to go to the elevator and hit R for the rooftop. They have an outdoor area and an indoor area. We opted for indoor since it was cold but still beautiful since it is enclosed by glass. Everything we ordered was delicious. It is made to share so the server recommends 3-4 dishes for 2 people - the perfect amount. She was great. My absolute favorite was the chorizo and queso dip which came with a pita. So simple sounding but the texture was phenomenal. It's like they whipped air into the cheese and the chorizo and pistachios gave it a nice balance of texture. The salmon ceviche was also delicious - very flavorful, fresh, and a zing in the mouth. Second favorite. The seabass is third - cooked well and loved the crunchy quinoa but it was very salty. The empanada was my least favorite but I appreciated there was a lot of meat in the puff pastry. For dessert, Sticky toffee pudding was good but lacked toffee - needs more! Went to Cabra for a birthday and it was delightful!  Contemporary Peruvian cuisine from the same people at The Girl and the Goat (another restaurant I am enjoyed a lot).  Dishes here are around $20-30 on average and they are medium-ish portions made to be shared. We had about 2 dishes a person give or take and between 5 people this came out to $80-90 after tax tip, and drinks.  We got the a variety of dishes (pictured) but my personal favorite was probably the bass ceviche (never had bass in this form nor a coconut cream ceviche!)   The table favorite was the salmon hand roll, and if I were to come back I would probably order the cauliflower sprouts again. The texture on that was fantastic. The drinks are definitely on the sweet side, which is not my preference but the flavors were excellent.  Cabra is stationed in an enclosed rooftop-type venue which made it perfect for sunset dining. Overall, a great dining experience! I cannot speak to how authentically Peruvian the food was, but the ambiance, flavors, and ideas present in a lot of the dishes came through effectively. read more

This is hard to write because we love Girl & the Goat including supporting LA restaurants but our food experience was just terrible during our visit last week. We tried new menu item ricotta whip mango salad accompanied by the pita which was a terrible mix. The "mango slaw" did not pair well at all. The potatoes were thick and hard. The corn choc was just ok. The steak was super tender which was the best of what we ordered but again something was off in the sauce. We barely touched any of our food and wasted a hefty chunk of change which was a terrible feeling. This is not the wonderful food experience I had here a couple of years ago. read more

Signed up to try via Bilt (credit card) tasting menu. The place is a a sister restaurant to the girl and the goat. The peruvian inspired four course menu included a steak saltado (10/10) entree with the essential ingredients of a saltado but elevated. The sauce and tomato really shined in this dish. The potato was savory, has a crisp outer coating, and is amazing when dipped into the saltado sauce. The steak is also cooked to perfect tenderness. The tomato was juicy and flavorful. If you go to Cabra, even just once for the vibes (let's be real), try the saltado. It's so important that it's being written about first! Moving on, or should I say, back, the starter was a creamy, smooth avocado dip flavored with yuzu and tomato (maybe everything with tomato is just solid here? Just a wild guess. ) Follow by the appetizer (what is the difference between a starter and an appetizer?), which is a bowl of bass ceviche with sweet potato and cancha or toasted corn. The other entrees of the meal were the swiss chard and kale empanadas and woodfired sprouted cauliflower. To be honest, I don't love the empanadas and would prob skip it if I was ordering -- the thick flaky take on it was not pleasurable for me. But it's normal to not love everything and kudos to the veggie filling for not tasting bitter at all. The type of cauliflower used reminds me of Chinese cauliflower, which has a longer stem and more crunch to it. In other words, it is a very enjoyable veggie dish. I appreciated the way the vegetable was seasoned with mint and lime as well as a green sauce on the bottom. I also found it interesting that they added a fried grain of sorts (possibly milet ?) -- it complimented the texture and made it hard to stop munching on. The tasting also included two cocktails per person. Got to try the tropical cure. Loved how the ice cube had an outline of the restaurant's goat mascot the ginger gummy was also good. Dessert was a sticky toffee pudding (not the custard). In the plate, there's a plantain cake, similar to banana bread, with banana ice cream, chocolate covered plantain chips and a rum toffee goat caramel whip. The dessert disrupted my taste buds, I had salty, sweet, sour all at once. The cake and ice cream part was unquestionably good. But the whip and plantain chips carried some citrus sourness and perhaps tajin salt that took me awhile to appreciate and decide that it was good. Needless to say, the views of dtla at sunset from the outdoor seating area was really great and the servers were friendly! Overall fun credit card dining experience for $125 per person and while I question my financial decisions (don't we all) I don't regret trying Cabra at all. I don't hand out 5-star reviews unless I really feel it is warranted and Cabra absolutely does. We met a group of friends there prior to attending a performance down the street. They were from out of town and asked for a recommendation. After having eaten at Girl & the Goat in the past, I eagerly suggested Cabra since I was curious how Chef Izard would interpret Peruvian food. Plus the rooftop location was a real plus. There were 6 of us, all food adventurers, so we ended up ordering way too much food. Among the items we had were the Hot Chorizo and Queso Dip, an assortment of Empanadas, Crab Causa, Papas Huancaina, Yuca Fries, some sort of Eggplant dish and a grilled mushroom dish. We had dishes covering our table and we managed to put away most of them. The highlights for me were the Chorizo & Queso dip, the Eggplant and the Mushrooms. I wanted to bathe in the queso because it hit every note and the glaze on the mushrooms was out of this world. The empanadas were my least favorite, though they were quite good. I've had empanadas all over Los Angeles and these were up there with the best of them, but that attributed to why they weren't my favorite as there was nothing extraordinary about them other than the tasty dipping sauces that came with them. The service was top notch. They server checked on us regularly, though I wish he had warned us that we were ordering too much food. We could have easily fed another table with our leftovers. I wish I could have taken them with me but we weren't going to be home for hours and the food would have gone bad sitting in the car all that time. Overall I am looking to come back again and take advantage of that wonderful rooftop seating, the great food and the wonderful ambiance! Kudos to Cabra and Chef Izard. I do not quite understand why customers need to also be responsible for operating charges of the restaurant. The portions are pretty small so recommend ordering one or two more dishes than the number of people. Pisco painkiller - frozen cocktail. Tastes similar to pina colada. A good option for summer Bass ceviche - was very impressed with this menu. It was a true peruvian ceviche. The food at Cabra was impeccable and unique. There was an incredible view of the city from the rooftop, and the ambiance of Cabra was warm and inviting. I was also really impressed with the service - speedy and attentive! I tried an assortment of dishes, and every single dish was delicious. The beef empanadas had a flaky, crispy exterior and a warm interior. An absolute must try is the crispy pork shank, which is paired with a zesty, fresh salad to balance the richness of the meat. It also came with a warm flatbread. I absolutely loved this dish: the crispy pork crust was beyond delicious. There were also a variety of dipping sauces to pair with the pork. Came by last month for brunch and chose to utilize the valet. Not very friendly and initially told us one price when given the ticket. After our meal they told us another price and said it is due to tax, but I've never heard of valet charging tax?? As far as Cabra, the rooftop is beautiful, not the best view with graffiti buildings but it is what it is. The servers were very friendly and shared they favorites. It does get pretty sunny in the outdoor bar seating and we saw many parties asking to be moved as it was hot and they have a lot of low seating tables that don't bode well for eating a meal. The menu is very limited but we ordered a few drinks- pisco painkiller, pisco sour, fresa froze, and LA dreamin- all great! As for food we ordered the tuna and tots, whipped ricotta, and skirt steak and eggs. The best was the skirt steak and eggs. Also tried the guava banana sorbet. Sister restaurant of Girl and the Goat with a Peruvian focus. Came here for a NYE dinner with my parents and we had reservations for 6:30pm. It's located at the Proper Hotel rooftop and we had a nice time enjoying our meal. We had the hot chorizo and queso dip, bass ceviche, and crab causa to start. The chorizo and queso dip came with fried plantains and yucca as well as a piece of pillowy soft pita bread. The ceviche was super fresh as was the crab - I particularly liked the perfectly ripe avocado that came on top. For the mains, we got the wood fired skirt steak and crispy pork shank, with the brussel sprouts on the side. Both of the meats were tender and flavorful. The pork shank came with two salsas and a pita bread as well (the latter of which had a delectable crunchy mix sprinkled on top). For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding which had think plantain chips covered in chocolate and a banana goat milk ice cream. If you like banana, it's a good dessert for you, but it isn't as sticky as a traditional pudding. Our waitress was super friendly and on top of it. I've worked in New York hospitality and there is a certain type of class in my opinion that should be carried...like just say we have a hard turnaround here rather than how she said it. I ended up making a new later reservation (because there were plenty available on Resy) to accommodate for a friend who was running late. When we checked in for that one she was like "I need the table at 7:45p so y'all get 2 hours instead for this one." Lmao lady. I'm not sure if this is normal but only experienced that here and a year prior at the Hideaway in Rodeo. Back to the good, It's tapas style so everything is shareable. I however ordered the bass ceviche and tuna & tots (BEST DISH). Tuna & Tots: flavor bomb, it's a cold dish with tuna and square tots that are warm and crunchy quinoa tops the tuna. It's soooo good, a balance between a cold and warm fish. Get this. Bass Ceviche: delicious served with taro and plantain chips and an almost creamy like sauce. Very very good. I usually avoid those as they're too sweet and too weak; this one, while not as strong as I'd like (I'm a lush!), was not too sweet. Good enough that I ordered two! As part of my Christmas/Chanukah present from Michael, Michael and I roamed around the Emmy red carpet bumping into Trevor Noah, Rupaul, and others we recognized or mostly didn't recognize, then to the Grammy Museum to see the 50 Years of Hip Hop, Shakira and Roxy Club exhibits. Afterward, we went to the Cabra LA Peruvian Japanese restaurant on the roof of the Huxton Hotel on Broadway. Beautiful indoor and outdoor space with an American Peruvian/Japanese tapas shared plate menu that contained many gluten free options for me. I started with a Pisco Painkiller cocktail - Pisco, rum, mango, pineapple and coconut and Michael had a California Dreamin'- tequila pomegranate and ginger cocktail. We shared a salmon ceviche and an avocado dip with plantain and taro chips. Both were delicious. Then we split a chorizo skewer with a magical topping that was so superb, the best I've ever had, I had to tell the chef behind the long open glasses kitchen how great this dish was prepared. Michael had chicken empanadas with a chimichurri sauce that I know he wanted to drink after dipping his empanadas. We shared a side of corn, cotilija cheese, lime and cilantro that was excellent finishing each with cappuccinos. A brilliant meal with many varied flavors and a view of downtown LA. read more
