Small little shop that's always bustling with business. No frills and the kitchen staff are always firing on all cylinders. I got chicken, rice, and beans. The chicken is white meat, but mine came a little dry for my taste. The skin was the best part - well roasted and flavorful. The black beans were decent, the rice was good. I did have to wait half an hour on a weekday in between lunch and dinner (when it was "less" busy, but less is relative - this place is always busy) so I walked around and did errands. The chicken was flavorful and moist, with excellent dark and white meat, and the portion size was very good. I wasn't sure what to order as a side, but the recommendation was fries and salad. I switched to rice and beans, and I'm so glad I did! The sides were both pretty good. I especially loved that the beans came in a separate container and had bits of meat inside. The rice was also nice, with a medley of corn, carrots, and peas. The biggest surprise was the salad. I'd heard people on Yelp recommend it, but it's not common to find a salad at a chicken joint, especially one with avocado, beets, and a slice of fresh, crisp apple. The tomatoes were very juicy, and I'd pay for this salad on its own. The orange dressing is the icing on the cake; it's so good! I appreciate that they provide a bottle of aji sauce when dining in. I also asked for extra orange and green sauces to go with my leftover chicken, and they were happy to accommodate. Don't order the fries! They lacked salt and seasoning and tasted like they were drenched in oil. I'm thankful I didn't order them a la carte because I threw most of them away. I used to live near Pollo A La Brasa, but finally got to try recently. I always see customers going in and out (and a HUGE line during holidays), but I finally committed to coming here on Friday night. First, the parking is really limited, but there is some spots outside (very hard to get in and out of if you have a bigger car) and some limited street parking (also pretty hard to find if you go during peak times). I would recommend either going during non peak times or bringing someone else along. The restaurant is pretty small inside and there is limited seating. I think it is more of a pick up and go kind of place. I decided on a whole chicken and fries. Since I came close to closing, they said it would be about a 20 minute wait, which was OK with me. There are plenty of stores next block over that I wandered around in. I did do a take out since they were closing. The chicken was very good and juicy. I really enjoyed the flavors. I was not a huge fan of the green sauce, but it gave a good kick to the chicken. Also, they gave me rice instead of fries, which sucked because I was really looking forward to the fries. We ordered half a chicken and the rib eye. The rib eye was nicely cooked and not tough. It is quite hard to cut with a plastic knife tho. The food is alright the leg quarts I got didn't have a good seasoning on it. All you really can taste was the smoke of the wood they use, the chicken really lack of flavor. The aji Verde was ok this spot imo (In my opinion) cannot compare to "El dorado Pollos a La Brasa" in Pasadena now that spot has the flavor and mesquite on the chicken done right. But it was very satisfying, deserving of its top-tier rating, and made our longish trek to K-town worthwhile. I always call ahead because after 4:30PM, they're just so packed with orders. And even when you call ahead, it's usually 45 - 60 mins before it's ready. The cilantro chile sauce that they give you, the spicy green Aji sauce perfectly compliments the chicken. I used to only order half a chicken but after the first time he had it, S said we had to order a whole chicken every time because he couldn't stop eating it. Funnily enough, our cat also goes crazy when she smells the chicken. She probably will also say that it's her favorite chicken as well. Went for the first time today. I got the 1/4 chicken dark meat, rice and beans. I knew that it could take a while for the order, and they were true to form. It took about 15 or 20 minutes to get my food after ordering. I waited inside and breathed in the wood smoke. The chicken was good, but the skin was not as crispy as I was expecting after reading the reviews. Next time I want to try the fries, which are supposed to be good. At 1 PM on Labor Day Monday, there was a constant line. About half the people are getting orders to go. The other half are jostling for the 6 or 7 tables. It's just that if you are NOT walking distance or live in the area where you Uber or Grubhub/Doordash it ; the PARKING situation proves impossible to eat here. Try it yourself and see. GOOD NEWS: they have location in Gardena, CA! *Pro tip* the owner suggested "STREET" parking instead of their tiny 5 car maximum lot. If you park in the private front lot, you most likely will be "blocked in" when leaving; you will. And backing up in "reverse" onto 8th street speeding heavy traffic is NOT fun.... Not to mention street/residential parking is impossible! My suggestion? Bring a friend/spouse/ anybody that can drive to circle the block or find a nearby business parking lot and buy something small there so you can park- then walk to Pollo A La Brasa- Western.
