I LOVE this place. I'm gluten-free (bc of Celiac), and there are verrryyyy few places in LA I've found with dedicated fryers where I can safely eat fried food. This is one of my faves If you're gluten-free, just make sure to tell them, they're very good with it and know what's safe on the menu... including Korean FRIED CHICKEN!!! (coated in rice flour) and fries (make sure to tell them you need them GF and they'll give you the thin fries that are safe and fry them in the right fryer). Food is absolutely delicious, would be one of my favorite spots even if I was able to eat everything (confirmed by a friend who came once and still talks about it). One of my top 5 spots in LA. The "small" order of chicken is gigantic, even just that with no sides is enough to fill me up and have leftovers. The fries are good too though! They do takeout and delivery, but it's a really special small place to eat at, I love the decor and the cozy, lovely feeling of going there, and the people working there (especially the owners) are incredibly nice and welcoming. It's a really special experience (especially as I've gone there enough times that they know me :) 10/10 recommend, 100/10 recommend if you need to eat gf. Love them. read more

I've been on the hunt for good oven roasted chicken because the Ktown area is mostly fried chicken, and I've tried so many places, but nothing compares to this spot. When I think about rice chicken, I think about chicken on top of rice. I don't wanna eat that! But my friend influenced me to come here with him, so I did and I was pleasantly surprised. First, we got a chicken sandwich with their signature sauce. It was only $8.99!!! And it was SOOO good. I would come back just for that. Then we got some chicken wings. 10 of them. They only let you choose one flavor which kinda sucks but whatever. We got yangmani or something as a flavor and I don't know why I never heard of that flavor before, but I personally don't like it because it has ketchup in it and I don't like ketchup. My friend absolutely loved the flavor though! Regardless, the chicken was cooked perfectly and was really what you would want in a chicken wing. I'll try another flavor I'll probably like, such as their soy garlic or something, but my friend wanted to try this flavor so we did. If it had no sauce or a garlic soy, I think I would've really enjoyed it a lot. Then we got a tornado potato, which tasted exactly like what it is. After eating, I looked on the wall at their LA Times article they had up. They had the woman who carried on Jonathan Gold's legacy, Jenn Harris, writing about how amazing their chicken is! It really is amazing. I trust Jenn's food recommendations. And I tasted that chicken sandwich. So I know this is the spot to go to. Surprisingly, it's kinda empty in there. I would say it's because a lot of people might think that they would be eating chicken on top of rice, so hopefully this review changes that perception. The service, you gotta ask for help, but it's fine because no one's in there. It's not like they gotta dedicated waiter to help you. The fried chicken wings are made with rice flour, and they have baked chicken wings too. I ordered both in spicy, and I was in heaven! I don't eat fried foods generally, but this was a wonderful treat, and the baked spicy wings were just as delicious! They're even great as leftovers so I get a bigger order. Cool gluten free concept that unfortunately can't compare to other top KFC in ktown. I consider myself a kfc lover, having tried many shops in both ktown and Korea. Rice Chicken was disappointing on several fronts. The breading was way too thick; more hard and crunchy than light and crispy. It took great jaw effort to chew through every bite. The chicken inside wasn't juicy and the sauce (yang nyum) was just plain boring. The radish was an extra charge, which is fine, but the portion was teensy tiny. It was only enough for a few bites and I had ordered a large! To top it off, the bathroom was unavailable as well. Service was fine but the food was not. The potion of bulgolgi beef is pretty generous and the tornado potato was very crispy and non-oily which I liked. I got the potato with cheese dust, but I think the honey butter one makes more sense. Overall, a nice spot to visit for a quick and fresh lunch. I've had this place on my "to-eat" list for months but I'm so rarely in the neighborhood. When I found myself nearby, I knew I had to make the pilgrimage. Parking is TIGHT and nearly impossible. Even the valet spots were completely full. Fortunately, I had my partner with me and they ran in to order while I idled close by. I can't speak about the ambiance - but what I can tell you is that the food hit allllll the marks. I ordered 3 piece chicken tender, side of cabbage salad and a side of rice. They have tons of different combos and drink specials. I ordered a 10 piece bone in wing in their cheesy tiger to try for ~$20. Unfortunately, the wings left much to be desired. They were on the smaller end, were crispy but were under seasoned and I couldn't taste the cheese flavor at all :(. When I tried to communicate this to the owner and asked for more seasoning, she said no. Personally, I've had better experiences at other kfc spots in la but this is a decent spot for a cheap meals since they have dishes for under $9. I'm adjusting my review, because I don't feel I was being fair. Driving thru downtown while HANGRY is not a recommendation. This is also no dig on the quality of their chicken. I've eaten from there before. It's well cooked, juicy, with a good crunch, and light flavor. If you're gluten-free, like myself, you can only have two different sauces, and of course you have to pay for those separate. Not a fault, just an observation. Having any Sauce at all, is awesome... My complaint and withholding of a star is that The Only individual sized portions you can get is a chicken sandwich (I'm one of those dreaded * duh..duh..dunnnnn,* "Gluten-Free" peeps. After that the next size is half a chicken (to much for me to eat in a sitting.) and it Doesn't come with any sauces or sides. I'm not saying that's it's a bad price, for the amount and quality... It's absolutely fair. But an individual option, be it wings, tenders, something easy like that. Something comparable to the chicken sandwich, would be really appreciated. That's Star worthy to me. To add insult to a sour moment, I had to pay for parking... for only 3 to 4 minutes. While not truly a fault of the restaurant, it is a part of the experience, and should be noted. I feel like this food is common at state fair / carnival type places but I've never had it before, but I loved this tornado potato. You can get it with honey butter seasoning, cheese seasoning, or half and half. I love an opportunity to try all the flavors so we did half and half and we loved it. The cheese seasoning is my favorite but I would still get half and half next time because both are so good.
