Fresh and piping hot seven piece for $11

The chicken is Fresh and piping hot, light and crispy. The sauce is traditional and spite, hot and spicy Korean. The daikon pickled radish is refreshing and traditional contrast of sweet and refreshing.

Tucked away inside HK Market, this little spot is another hole-in-the-wall hidden gem. It's a must-stop whenever we're in LA for the boong-uh-bbang (taiyaki). Hands down the best--especially when it's fresh and piping hot. The ladies who run the place are super sweet and hardworking. If the boong-uh-bbang isn't fresh, they'll often toss in a few extras. Even when it's been sitting out a bit, it still beats any other place. The batter and red bean filling taste homemade, with no artificial aftertaste. My kids also love the chicken wings, which come with hot sauce and pickled radish. Crispy, flavorful, and satisfying. Cash only.

Fish-shaped waffles. Wasn't fresh, not good.

HK Chicken is located in the back of HK Market. It's CASH ONLY ! There are only 3 things on the menu: Fried Chicken (wings/whole chicken), fish shaped waffle with red-bean filling, and roasted sweet potatoes. Simple offerings made by a grandma owner. She is extremely nice and does chicken right! The fried chicken here reminds me of a Thai version of fried chicken made with Gogi-brand batter. If you know then you know. I personally love it because it reminds me of home cooking fried chicken from my aunt. Fried chicken order comes with pickled daikon radish and a spicy sweet sauce; it's yummy! My family loves the chicken from here. Prices are reasonable.

    Bungeoppang with red bean filling

This small eatery inside HK Market sells bungeoppang (Korean fish bread) with red bean filling, baked goguma (sweet potato), and chicken wings. I've only had the bungeoppang ($1.50 each) and goguma ($3 or $5 options). I've always had the bungeoppang made fresh so it's piping hot and still crunchy around the edges. It's really satisfying and delicious - reminds me of the ones we'd get in Korea during our winter visits. These are traditionally made unlike the ones that are made with tapioca flour (for ex. Somi Somi or the little taiyaki stand in little Tokyo) which make it more chewy. These are more of a bready/pancake-like texture and therefore softer. They only offer red bean as a filling and are super generous with the amounts inside. Goguma is also very tasty and good value for the price. The one I purchased was the $5 tray and it came with 4 large gogumas. FYI everything is cash only! Ladies are always super pleasant and friendly. Would highly recommend!

Omgggg HOW have I not tried this place before?!?!!!! One rainy weekend, after binge-watching "Reply 1988" on Netflix and being enticed by the boonguhbbang (Korean taiyaki / fish-shaped pastry filled with red bean paste... boonguh = fish, bbang = bread) featured throughout the series, I succumbed and decided to get some rainy day treats for the family... And WOW, this might be the best boonguhbbang I've ever had. Forget the modern versions at overly expensive cafes and dessert places... THIS is the real deal made the traditional way! It even has my Korean parents' stamps of approval. So piping hot (I asked for a fresh batch and not the ready-made ones sitting under the heat lamp) that I almost burned my tongue downing one as soon as I got in the car and ripped my mask off! $10 for 7 boonguhbbangs, cash only. Can't wait to try the Korean fried chicken from here next, which I've heard is legendary as well. Support local!

I ordered the chicken strips with fries, while my partner ordered a two-piece chicken dinner with macaroni salad and spicy rice. Although we had to wait a little while for the food, it arrived hot. We both agreed that it was some of the best fast-food fried chicken we had ever eaten. The chicken was moist and the batter was crispy. My fries were good, and my partner's macaroni salad and spicy rice were both flavorful. We especially loved the biscuit. I also couldn't help noticing that although the dining room feels like something of a relic, it is very well maintained. There were no dirty tables and no trash on the floor. I was genuinely shocked when the cashier came out to ask how everything was and whether we needed anything else. Most fast-food chains seem determined to eliminate as much human interaction as possible. Pioneer Chicken was a refreshing reminder that fast food can still be friendly, clean and satisfying. Pioneer Chicken is a winner in my book!

They do have outdoor seating, but it's limited, so we ended up eating in the car with the AC on since it was such a hot day. Honestly, still worth it! I ordered the Sando (chicken sandwich) with a medium spice level, and it was perfect. The chicken was super juicy, the spice had just the right kick, and the coleslaw was fresh with crunchy pickles that balanced everything out so well. I also got a side of their shake fries my absolute favorite. They were golden, crispy, perfectly seasoned, and dipped in the comeback sauce... chef's kiss!
