2 Tenders w/ Side of Fries & Texas Toast
Anton F.

Had to see what's all the hype about this Red Chicks. Ordered from the Downtown LA location 2 piece Tenders (Bonfire Hot) with fries, pickles and comeback sauce. The oversized tenders are crispy outside, juicy inside. The fries are really good, same seasoning as the chicken with the pickles for crunch. Pretty good and filling meal.

A big very seasoned shrimp!

One word = FANTASTIC! I came here to try the chicken and shrimp and was extremely impressed. I ordered the shrimp meal with mac and cheese and one side of chicken tender! The favor is definitely there and seasoned soo good on both. The service was nice. They have inside and outside seating but inside is better. Outside on spring st there is ALOT of activity going on with people watching and the food robots, service trucks running around. Oh yes and they have a bathroom which is key! It's in downtown LA so parking i can't see where anyone could park here. They have a $2 chicken tenders on thursdays also. They had a lot of take-out orders so people must agree it's good quality food. Overall, yes i would be back and try the sando next time but this place is jamming good!! Go visit these guys and enjoy. Food rating: Fried seasoned shrimp 8.8\10 Chicken tender 8.8\10 Mac and cheese 8.5\10

Angel and staff were a delight called to order 15 mins before closing and they had called me back but I just went down to store to order. Very attentive and nice service! Thanks so much! I love the blaze and their corn here. It was lively in there with lots of guests enjoying their meal there. I'm happy that my wedges were crispy as well (:

Weekdays special

It was after the Fiesta Sabado that I decided to eat somewhere else because the taco lines were too long at the event. So I went to Red Chickz. Small place was not crowded at the time. I ordered me a mild chicken sandwich with fries. FYI this place has LEVEls of spice if you want it spicier. At first glance the fries looked over seasoned but we're not. They were good. The chicken sandwich it's a preference of mine but I would have liked it to have more coleslaw but overall it was good. The sauce was ok. They do have specials on the weekdays.

It is my first time coming here I was going to order a spicy chicken sandwich maybe next time because I ordered the Mac and cheese bowl we choose Hot flavor it's actually not spicy at all to me personally it does have a small after kick but I think I will try the extra hot next time. I love that it comes with potato wedges as well so yummy and chicken was made fresh to order it is delicious I definitely would come again to try different items.

HEY, VEGANS! Check out the photo! I made lazy "fish" tacos with cauliflower bites, bagged salad, and corn tortillas! I'm sure you can make them better, but this is the lazy version, and it works for me! The service is great, and ordering from the app for pick up is very convenient!

Red Chickz in Downtown LA is easily a 5-star spot. The chicken was so good and every bite had the perfect crunch. The flavor, the freshness, and the quality were all on point. Definitely one of the best hot chicken spots around. I'll for sure be coming back again. It's a vibe with good food!!!

Great chicken tenders spot with a Thursday $2 deal that can't be beat! First the negatives. The location is a little tough because it's DTLA so parking can be a challenge - metered street parking or paid lots. It gets busy and there isn't a ton of room or seating inside and outside isn't the most pleasant. The orders can take a little long. A lot of them are to go orders. Now the positives. If you work nearby, it's a great lunch spot. The tenders are large. 2 would be enough if you're being good on portions. The crunchy batter is fried to perfection. For heat level, i liked the mild the best. It had the best flavor with a touch of spice. I also tried the medium and while it was hotter, it did have any added flavor in fact i felt it took away from the flavor. I like the potato wedges as well and the fried cheese curds were just ok. Workers were nice. I would definitely come here if I was craving chicken tenders a definitely if it was a Thursday. Btw, I happen to have tried Dave's hot chicken a week prior to this and although Dave's is better, it's also way pricier.

3 Tenders w/ Side

Really solid Nashville hot chicken spot! I love potato wedges too so them using that as their side instead of regular fries definitely makes them stand out. Service was fast and friendly, and there is a few spots inside to eat if you'd like but it is a smaller restaurant. The mild level was not spicy so if you want a kick definitely go up a heat level! The loaded mac bowl was probably most popular and was super good!

Chicken tenders

My friend pointed out that this place had $2 chicken tenders on Thursdays, so we decided to go and try a bunch of them. I also brought four pieces back to my mom because she wanted to try them too and she absolutely loved the medium flavor. She said it was so good and asked for six the next time I go, so I gave her my additional 3 pieces that I was going to eat tomorrow. I think realistically though, this is a good place to go to get 2 pieces and a sauce for $4.50 (the sauces are 50 cents each). I'm not sure how my mom is able to just keep eating these, but the flavor gets a little repetitive after the second piece and it becomes difficult to eat a third. If you feel that way too after trying these, maybe the one without any seasoning could work for you. As far as the chicken tenders go, they are juicy and succulent on the inside, so chances are, they are probably brined. The crispiness is nice too and you get a good crunch with each bite. However, the seasoning choice is a little unusual in my opinion. While it is a flavorful blend, it doesn't have that perfect blend that makes you want to keep eating more and more and more, which you can find at similar places. The service for the food is quick and the ambiance is cool and chill, but you don't find too many people dining in at this location, probably due to the challenges of parking in downtown la. My mom wants me to get more of these, so I guess I'll be going back next week.

Cannot say enough good things about this place. Was recommended by a friend. Long line but moved fast. Friendly service. Large servings. Fair prices. Highly recommend and will definitely return. Unfortunately there are a lot of homeless in the area and parking can be tricky. The corn was my favorite.

Bonfire Chicken Tenders + Homestyle Mac & Cheese

Food was big bussin', ngl. I ordered 3 tenders: 'Bonfire' hot w/ the mac & cheese side. Anthony (servwe) was kind enough to give us complementary cheese tatertots as well The crunch + breading was perfectly crispy & not even remotely dry. The tenders were juicy as hell. definitely 11/10 I would recommend going for medium spice for those that spices out pretty quick.

Horrible service!! I went to the restaurant i ordered my food the lady was not rude but i looked and tried to use the restroom it said out of order. There was a latino man that came inside and asked to use the restroom the cashier opened the restroom with no problem. I asked hey can i use the restroom she says no. Its because i see him all the time. I guess maybe she should have said its because your black and didnt speak spanish. I will never come to this location again that was discrimination at its finest!!

Ask the Community - The Red Chickz

How is the chicken?

Crispy and juicy! (: No where near being dry. They give pretty big pieces as well so definitely worth a try!

What is in the sauce? I know I can choose the level of spice on the chicken, and it's not the spice that bothers me, but I have an allergy to Chile de arbol (tree chili) and just wanted to know if it's safe for me to eat 😅?

Hi Debbie, I will confirm with our chef tomorrow morning and get back to you.

Is the chicken halal?

It may be better to call them & ask directly.

People who have been to howlin rays, how does it compare. Is it worth trying still?

Yes Red Chickz is worth trying, especially if you don't feel like waiting two hours for Howlin' Ray's lol. Same concept as howling rays. Plus I believe you can order online. I definitely would recommend it.

Do you guys take online order?

Yes we do through our website theredchickz.com

Do they have a phone number for pick orders? Thanks, how can I order extra sides a la carte online?

We have online order available through our website.

What is the parking situation like?

Hi Brian, We are located in Downtown so all the parking will be street parking.

I went on a Saturday night without reservations hoping for a spot as they had mentioned on the…read morewebsite that walk ins were welcome. Of course there were no tables especially at peak hour, and they were fully committed for the night. I was disappointed, but they offered to go to the wine bar in the back of the room, which was OK as they had an item on the menu that I wanted to try anyways namely hanger steak which is my favorite cut of beef. Unfortunately, there was a wait at the bar too and it was first come first serve so you wait like a hawk for a chair at the bar. Guests were not rushing to finish their dinner so I saw the wait jumping to more than half an hour at the bar. After talking to Savannah the manager, she unlocked one of the tables at the back, which is usually used by guests waiting to be seated in the main dining room or others playing chess offered by the restaurant?! We ordered following the Australian bartender's advice, the baby albacore appetizer ,Edna's corn bread and the hanger steak. With some bad luck tonight, there was a birthday party of eight or ten people waiting to be seated in the main dining room and they were standing with their back right in our face laughing and conversing very loudly. I was reluctant to ask the bartender to move them away as we had the view of their back for almost the whole dinner. The baby albacore came swiftly and was very good enhanced with a ginger root relish and shallots for $21. The sour milk corn bread was the highlight of the dinner and was not as heavy as some have said., specially if shared. The hanger steak ($49) ordered medium rare was good and the duck fat potatoes tasty . The green peppercorn sauce of the steak was too runny and salty. This piece of meat could have used a different type of peppercorn sauce, maybe with the addition of crème fraîche to cut on the salt and thicken the end result. Savannah and the bartender were the star of the show tonight. Thank you!

I will say parking is definitely different from where we live but you are able to do valet parking if you like. It was kind of tight in the restaurant, the tables are close together but the vibe and the music playlist was amazing!! WuTang Forever!!!! I was dancing in my chair the entire time. Our waitress was kind and explained the menu when we had questions. The food was good, I don't think two of my family members normally go to places like this so they were unsure of what to get but ended up liking their entrees. Around the table we ordered the Wagyu Beef Tartare , famous cornbread and the tomato Caesar as appetizers then whole fish dish, the steak and bone marrow which was the main reason my son wanted to try this place, a chicken and bean dish and some kind of stew if I'm not mistaken. All in all our entrees weren't bad. Now for dessert we had the sticky date pudding and also the seasonal ice cream both were delicious!!! If ever in the area stop in a give them a try.

Our server and all the fabulous folks that helped us for dinner service was wonderful. Appreciate our server Elizabeth for triple checking that the dishes doesn't contain seafood. We did find out for the majority of the dishes contains somesort of seafood seasoning except for the chicken salad. The drinks were fabulous as well, my friend had the non alcoholic Montaigne. It was very tropical and had a great presentation. I had the J'Adior and it was absolutely wonderful. Very light and crisp. Second round I had the very alcoholic DiorAmour and she had the L'Evasion Dior which was also non alcoholic. We also got the off menu green goddess salad with coconut yogurt dressing that was fabulous and tasted so good. I believe it was from the summer menu. That did not have any seafood in it. The bread and butter is always a fun experience. We had it during our afternoon tea, and butter is fancy and well presented. Mains: my friend's only option was the Water Lily Salad because everything had some sort of seafood component in it, which you won't taste whatsoever, but she doesn't like it and tell people she's allergic so she missed out on some good stuff including the steak medallion that she really wanted. I am simple, I love fish and seafood so I had the trout. The sauce, the presentation, honestly so Michelin! Dessert: We got the chocolate cannage and it was really wonderfully presented in the pattern of a dior bag with a chocolate golden bee. Just to note they add 4% health benefits fee. I went to Maydan Market for a quick dinner before a concert at SoFi last Friday (went to watch…read moreJay-Z 30, or--as I overheard someone describe it after the show--"a 70-year-old man rapping his ass off"). It was pretty ideal for our purposes, and I'd definitely recommend it for an easy, casual meal. Maydan Market is a hip, attractive, modern food hall, with seven different stalls selling a variety of food and beverages. You can order from the individual stalls or find a table and scan a QR code. Either way, your orders are brought to your table with surprising speed. I don't prefer this type of drive-by, impersonal service, but it suited our needs. We found a table for four right away, and we were in and out in about an hour. We could've stayed longer if we wanted, and it was nice to have dinner with booze in a trendy environment for about $50. I got my drink from Compass Rose, which offered wine and cocktails. I went with the Au Poivre Negroni, a dry mix of Orion gin, vermouth blanc, lemon acid, cava, and peppercorn. It was solid, but my friend's Basil Margarita was better, a bright, tasty drink made with Salmiana mezcal, basil eau de vie, triple sec, lime juice, and basil. I went with Golden Mountain Chicken for dinner, getting a kao soi set with fried chicken. The Thai fried chicken was great, crispy and well seasoned. I was less into the kao soi, a curry noodle dish I've loved at other restaurants. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't especially good. Felt like a simplified version, the flavors a little muted. I also tried some of my friend's chicken kebab plate from Sook LA. Satisfying kebab, juicy and savory, served with grain salad, roasted tomato, Persian cucumber, and pita. I live close to Maydan Market and will probably come back, for lunch or a low-key dinner. It's a lovely space with options for everyone, just an easy place to grab a good meal.
