Chicken Hummus plate with Jamaica and water
    Jeff L.

This place is the best lunch in Lincoln Heights I didn't know I wanted! A coworker recently tipped me off to Almaya for an amazing mix of Mediterranean/Mexican food. So far, I've tried the beef and chicken hummus plates, and they were both absolutely delicious. If you can swing eating in, I highly recommend it as the food comes out piping hot with incredible presentation for a lunch venue. Service is quick and friendly, too! This walk up restaurant is located inside a contemporary food court across the street from St. Vincent's off Ave 21. 1 hour parking is free at St. Vincent's, or there is also street parking.

Awesome!! We got the chicken kebab plate and the spicy creamy chicken (as well as some baklava). Everything was EXCELLENT, the service was awesome, and I LOVE the complimentary peppers on hand. I'll be back!!

Amazing food, service and location! I was recommended Almaya and since we were in the area we decided to stop by. It's located inside a food hall, it's clean with plenty of seating. We had spicy chicken (not pictured), empanadas, falafel and baklava. Everything is spectacular and service is so helpful and kind. We will definitely be back!

Inside of a food court with 2 other options. This place is incredible! It's a family run business- half Mexican half Egyptian- so there's something for everyone. I got taquitos and my boyfriend got the spicy creamy chicken plate- idk what's in that sauce but it's drinkable! Good portions, had some to take home. Counter service. Will be back and bring friends!

It was inside a food court, so there's only really street parking to get here. It wasn't too crowded when I came on a Friday at 1:00pm. My friend had suggested this place and mentioned that on Tuesday they do tacos which I was looking forward to trying, but maybe next time. I got the Spicy Creamy Chicken plate which was absolutely delicious. The chicken was so tender and not dry at all. They give you options of either hummus or beans for the side and a salad also. The pita bread was so crispy and complimented the whole dish. I do wish that they would give more rice, but nonetheless, the dish was my favorite! I also tried my friend's lamb plate she got and I cannot rave enough about that. It was so tender and the meat fell right off the bone.

We only tried the falafel plate and the chicken burrito/wrap, but both were amazing the falafels were crispy and flavorful, with amazing hummus and toasted pita bread. Really good food here!

Almaya is the perfect fusion of Mexican and Mediterranean cuisines! I ordered the Chicken Shawarma Burrito, and the explosion of flavors on the first bite was absolutely mouth-watering. It perfectly balances a traditional chicken burrito with distinct Mediterranean flavors. On top of the amazing food, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the ambiance is peaceful with good music playing at just the right volume. This place is an absolute must-visit!

Such an amazing find with great customer service and food!! It's located inside of a food hall and the quality of the food here is so good. We got three tacos; asada, chicken shawarma, and birria along with a birria burrito. The flavor was top notch and it tasted so fresh. I also loved at how light and thin the chips were. The green salsa paired so well with everything! Definitely check this place out.

The food was amazing and the prices were very reasonable. I got a TON of steak on my plate in the Asada Kabab. I was stuffed. My wife ordered the falafel plate and took leftovers home. I tasted the falafel and it was perfectly cooked. It is easy to mess up falafel and a hard thing to get just right. It can be dry, or too oily or too thick, or cold, or too salty. So many things can go wrong. This falafel was perfect. If you are a falafel lover, I highly recommend trying it! Parking can be a little tricky, but there is free parking at the thrift store across the street. We found street parking, but it can be like the Hunger Games depending on the time of day. The only thing that wasn't my favorite was the horchata. It was a little too sugary and on the sweet side for me. Everything else was extremely good and very enjoyable. Plus, this service could not be friendlier.

Mediterranean meats Mexican. The chicken shawarma plate is scrumptious. Go donate stuff at Society of St. Vincent and grab a bite.

A lucky discovery around the area. We came in on a Tuesday, after the lunch hour, so there was not much people. The place yeh clean and there were ample of tables around. I got my beef kebab plate, which was oh so delicious, I scarfed that down fast! My colleagues also loved their order: chicken kebab plate and asada burrito. Highly recommend!

Randomly came across this place and it did not disappoint. Tucked away under apartments, Almaya sits in a little food hall. Kind of a random place for this building, as the area is a street over from a tent city. Parked on the street (make sure to lock your cars!) I ordered a falafel plate, some guac and chips, and cheese rolls. Oh! And baklava. The plate is a decent size and everything was so good! Probably could have split it with my friend, but had left overs for dinner lol. Chips and guac were really yummy. The cheese rolls were pretty nice, too. I love baklava! This one was a little too sweet but still really yummy. The girl at the counter was super awesome and nice. She answered all our questions and then later brought everything out to us and always had a smile on her face. We saw her bring out a candle on a dessert for some other people and that's way more than I would expect for a spot in a dining hall so definitely awesome! Great service!

I loveeee Almaya! The chicken kebab plate is chefs kiss. Honestly you can't go wrong with any food items here. The presentation of the food is also phenomenal, they really care about attention to detail. Nicole is fantastic! She gives amazing service and always greets you with a warm smile.

Everyday is taco Tuesday. Taco proteins choices from the menu to enjoy.

No apology, no real explanation--they basically just brushed it off. Thankfully, the food saved the night! The Michelada oysters were TO DIE FOR--seriously one of the best oyster flavors I've ever had. We also had the short rib plate, which was delicious. The outdoor atmosphere and decor are really cute too. I would come back, but ONLY for those oysters--definitely not for the service.

Sonoratown was our first stop as it was highly recommended by my boyfriend's brother, and it did not disappoint. It immediately earned a spot in our top five favorite taco spots for carne asada in all of Southern California! The location that we went to is located in between Elysium DTLA and Perfumeria Starlux on E 8th St in downtown LA. There is only paid(?) street parking around the area that could be extremely difficult to find during work days. Because we couldn't snag a spot, my friends and I opted for takeout and didn't end up eating until about 30 minutes later. Despite the travel time, the tacos were still absolutely incredible--I can only imagine how spectacular it tastes fresh! My friends and I ordered the carne asada tacos, and my boyfriend opted for the cabeza. Before I even took a full bite, I tasted a piece of the loose carne asada and was blown away; it was perfectly cooked with a wonderful tenderness and deep smokiness. The use of a single, thin, handmade flour tortilla--rather than the standard double corn--was a total game-changer and exactly how I preferred my tacos. The salsas were equally impressive, offering fantastic flavor and a great kick. My boyfriend's cabeza taco was just as standout, featuring super-tender meat with a rich, savory profile. Wowowow! Between the exceptional meat quality, bold flavors, and great value, this is easily one of the best taco spots I've visited. It's a huge bummer that they don't have a location down in San Diego, but we will definitely be back!

Cute building with lovely patio seating: from the trailing hanging pothos plants, Spanish tiles, to relaxing latin-house music the vibes were welcoming. I'm not much of a drinker though, when asked if I wanted to make my pina colada a "float" I thought incorrectly about ice cream. It was graciously explained that you take an additional shot of rum and float it on top of the drink or mix in to make it extra boozy. The pina colada is top notch they hollow out a real pineapple to make the drink and it's the size of your face! The watermelon cocktail was delicious and there is also a mezcal option. Tasted like if a watermelon aqua Fresca was combined with a margarita, there is a hint of salt that brings out the fruit sweetness. We special ordered a bunch of different proteins and vegetables at half portions to make a feast: Aguachile- Light refreshing starter, kanpachi perfectly marinated and great for the summer heat. Crispy potato- Phenomenally done fingerling potatoes. Whipped beans- Carnitas on top made this dish. Fried chicken tacos- Found the chicken slightly on the dry side, if there was a creamy/thicker sauce would be even better... nothing wrong with flavor, good mild heat. I did enjoy the fresh shredded cabbage and carrots, reminded me of bahn mi. Empanadas- Loved the acidity of the sauce that cut through the fattiness of the ground meat. Light shell. Crispy Squash flower- Delicate crunch, like an angelic version of a jalapeno popper. Lamb chops- Definition of "treat-yourself" luxurious meat lollipops. Celery salad- Simple dish but the lemon flavor and tartness really helped break up the richness of other dishes. Churros- Light crunch and small, petite dessert. The thin caramel sauce is addicting. Fine dining, for those special occasions or if you just want to splurge for a morale boost highly recommend this restaurant. Valet parking or park across the street or around the corner in a lot for $5-10.

Uno and scallops so fresh. Scallops are in a ceviche-style sauce under those beautiful sea urchins. Tostada de atún - also very good. Everything chopped perfectly.
