Came here on a day during the week right around lunchtime. Parking is a little bit of a weird situation just an fyi, but I wanna saw you are allowed to park in the parking for the thrift store right down the road! Food tasted great honestly. I ordered the spicy chicken plate and was really happy with my portions and my sides given, only reason for the four stars is the customer service just felt a bit transactional. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. We had 2 falafel plates, 1 baklava, and 1 pastry for $41. The minty water (free), fried pita, rice, and hummus are all top notch. The falafel balls were so large that they were still doughy inside. Tasty yes, but they could have been better. We were not impressed by the pink dipping sauce and semi-sweet salad dressing. We prefer more traditional tahini and vinaigrette. The stainless steel water cups were a nice touch. On-street parking is terrible, but we did find a spot a block away. The have a parking agreement with the St. Vincent De Paul lot across the street, but that gate was closed when we arrived at 5:15 on Labor Day. Service at the counter is friendly and helpful. The setting is a nice cafeteria atmosphere shared with Thai and Korean/Japanese counters. This is close to home, so we will be back to try more dishes, and the other restaurants. read more

But with a quick search and Yelp we were able to stumble upon this place without backtracking from where we were at. There was free parking on the street and we were surprised to find that this place was located in a food court being shared with two other restaurants. The staff was kind and actually brought our food out to us once we placed our order. I was able to munch on some of the pickled carrots and garlic they had by the water before we got our food. The mole empanada was delicious with the crunchy outside, savory middle, and the green sauce that came with it was the cherry on top. The salmon burrito I got was juicy and a bit oily for my liking, but delicious. The baklava was a great ending note for me to a wonderful meal. Literally a hidden gem, unless you drive down the street it's on you will not know that this place exists. It's located alongside two other food markets inside, Thai food and hibachi. If you love Mediterranean food this place is for you. It's a mix of Mediterranean and Mexican food. My boyfriend ordered the chilaquiles which are one of his fav dishes and he rated them a 10/10. The chips were crispy, flavorful and fluffy. I like when chilaquiles don't come out soggy. I ordered the Spicy Creamy Chicken plate, the chicken was tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. This plate was packed with so much flavor, from the sauce, the hummus, the salad and the salad dressing. All the flavors mixed so well together, made every bite mouthwatering. They have an agua fresca of the day, when I went it was mango orange agua fresca which was very refreshing and not too sweet which I loved. For a dessert treat I got their Baklava (one of my fav desserts). It was crunchy, the perfect sweetness and made so perfectly. Each bite was tasty and flavorful. It's a nice clean spacious spot inside to dine in, with outdoor seating also available. The service was expeditious, the staff was kind of enough to give us their recommendations since it was our first time here. This place is the best lunch in Lincoln Heights I didn't know I wanted! A coworker recently tipped me off to Almaya for an amazing mix of Mediterranean/Mexican food. So far, I've tried the beef and chicken hummus plates, and they were both absolutely delicious. If you can swing eating in, I highly recommend it as the food comes out piping hot with incredible presentation for a lunch venue. Service is quick and friendly, too! My friend had suggested this place and mentioned that on Tuesday they do tacos which I was looking forward to trying, but maybe next time. I got the Spicy Creamy Chicken plate which was absolutely delicious. The chicken was so tender and not dry at all. They give you options of either hummus or beans for the side and a salad also. The pita bread was so crispy and complimented the whole dish. I do wish that they would give more rice, but nonetheless, the dish was my favorite! The food was amazing and the prices were very reasonable. I got a TON of steak on my plate in the Asada Kabab. I was stuffed. My wife ordered the falafel plate and took leftovers home. I tasted the falafel and it was perfectly cooked. It is easy to mess up falafel and a hard thing to get just right. It can be dry, or too oily or too thick, or cold, or too salty. So many things can go wrong. This falafel was perfect. If you are a falafel lover, I highly recommend trying it! Parking can be a little tricky, but there is free parking at the thrift store across the street. We found street parking, but it can be like the Hunger Games depending on the time of day. The only thing that wasn't my favorite was the horchata. It was a little too sugary and on the sweet side for me. Everything else was extremely good and very enjoyable. Truly the BEST Mediterranean in the area. What a cool fusion of Mexican and Mediterranean. The pita and homemade hummus are so amazing, arguably best hummus I've ever had. The falafels are so moist and never dry which is rare for falafel. Agua Fresca is also so insanely good. Will go out of my way to come here. Randomly came across this place and it did not disappoint. Tucked away under apartments, Almaya sits in a little food hall. Kind of a random place for this building, as the area is a street over from a tent city. Parked on the street (make sure to lock your cars!) I ordered a falafel plate, some guac and chips, and cheese rolls. Oh! And baklava. The plate is a decent size and everything was so good! Probably could have split it with my friend, but had left overs for dinner lol. Chips and guac were really yummy. The cheese rolls were pretty nice, too. I love baklava! I stumbled on Almaya through Uber eats, one of my vegetarian friends wanted some snacks and this seemed to be the best option with their assortment of small bites. Almaya is one of those places that surprises you the first time, then somehow still hits the same every time after. I cannot emphasize how disappointed i was when the Spicy Feta Dip was finished, I wanted to order more right then and there it was so FIRE! Craving the feta dip and the humus that same week, I decided to make the drive to their location. This time instead of just small bites I decided to try the spicy creamy chicken plate.. this is now one of my all time favorite dishes.... and Id like to emphasize that the pita bread always comes out warm and lightly toasted, which I haven't found anywhere else. Every person I've brought here, from full grown men to petite women, have all cleaned their plate! Service is always friendly, the food is also always delivered to the table even though they are in a food court style location. Cruising through the streets of Boyle Heights and found this place. It's in a food court but don't let that throw you off. It's Halal. You can never go wrong with Halal. The cashier (Nicky/nancy) was super sweet. She guided us to the chicken shawarma. Instead of rice I got the double salad (trying to trim down). The salad was fire, the shawarma was fire. I attended a dinner where the food was catered by Almaya and was completely impressed by how great the food was! At first, I was a little surprised by the combo of Mexican and Mediterranean dishes, but upon learning that the chef's background is a blend of the two cultures, it all makes sense! Starters included a tray of hummus (beautifully decorated by edible flowers) and tray of guacamole, with fried pita chips and tortilla chips. I particularly loved their brussels sprouts and spicy cauliflower which were both delicious! The chicken kabobs and salmon kabobs were cooked perfectly and very flavorful. There was also a couple of salads and Mexican rice. Everything was so fresh and well-executed that you could tell that it was made by someone who cares a lot about food and cooks with lots of love. This is the first time I had a full meal, but was previously introduced to this spot from catering they did for a small local LH holiday party.
