I'd be thrilled with this place, were it not for the service I received. It's in a great spot on Hollywood Blvd. with pretty easy-to-find parking on nearby side streets. It's aesthetically pleasing, sophisticated and airy. The drink I had (a vermouth spritzer) was a unique find on the menu, and quite tasty. However, the bartender was friendly only when trying to get me to order more drinks. I understand that bartenders adopt a façade of sparkling customer service to provide a fun, extended experience. It was just jarring that this particular libations peddler was so attentive when he thought I'd order another round, and when I said I wasn't sure yet, the smile literally dropped from his face and he walked away, ignoring me as I was adding a lighthearted comment (which pertained to my thinking about another drink). There were only 2 other patrons in the bar whom he'd just served, so there was no need to dismiss me hastily to serve a line of people. Of course, I know that he only cared about getting more business and more money from me - but someone skilled in customer relations would never make a guest feel this way. It's like riding Space Mountain with the lights on. I'll come back to give them another shot. It's unfortunate that a little rudeness, or carelessness, left such a sour taste to overpower a delicious drink.

Another accidental find. Our local spot had a one hour wait so we left our car where we parked it and walked here instead. We were determined to have wine and didn't necessarily want to wait a full hour for a table. We also didn't want to drive again only to find no parking on a Friday night so we walked the 5 mins here. There was no wait here. We walked in and beaded to the bar. I stood back a d let my friend take the wheel. We walked over to the back area with our drinks thinking we'd chill there, but it was more for the smokers so we found a table inside instead. I'm not sure I figured out what the vibe was. The music was definitely loud. I'm sure it would be bothersome had the genre blasting wasn't to someone's liking. They were playing 80s so I was chill. One of the bartenders came over to drop off our cheese plate so my friend asked him for round 2 of drinks. He sarcastically snapped at her saying this wasn't table service and he wasn't her waiter so she needed to get up and go to the bar if she wanted another drink. I was kind of taken aback, but knew he meant well so I didn't want to make a big deal of it. He ended up taking our order before he went back to the bar. We did enjoy the two orange wines we got and the cheese board, but the experience as a whole did not make me want to come back. Additionally, there was a party right at the entrance who were so loud the lady next to them ate her food so quickly so she could bounce. She was dining alone and looked my way a few times to acknowledge the loud group next to her.

    The MOST beautiful Charcuterie Board!

What a wonderful wine bar! The service was exceptional and the staff were so friendly! We loved our whole experience and will definitely be back. PJ the manager was a delight.

Arrived at the Bowl and checked into the host stand an hour early and asked to see if it was possible to be seated early. They explained it was likely we would be seated near our time but that they would call me if any thing changes. My family and I waited till our reservation time and then went up to the host stand to check in and the same host asked if I got their call? I said I didn't and they said they called me and repeated my phone number back to me. While they repeated my phone # back to me, my call log showed 0 calls. The person looked at their phone and said oh I must have put it in wrong. I wasn't sure what to say to that so we were left in an odd moment of silence. The exchange felt fake to me. :( The host then took us to a table with a great view and then just as we got to the table they told us to turn around to go to another table in the back. My daughter liked the table as it had a view so we said we'd sit there. Again, odd. The table as with all the tables in the restaurant are closely placed near one another so there is an overall feeling of being cramped. Also, the tables themselves are small and compact. You are really up close and personal with your fellow diners and the noise level of the restaurant is loud. The food we ordered didn't fit on the table itself so we had to constantly move dishes and glasses around the whole time we ate as food was brought to us and stack the dishes to make room. The food comes out as it is ready which was fine but we noted, the table next to us didn't get one of their dishes (we heard because the tables are so close and you hear everyone's conversations). Everything food wise was pretty good tasting with the exception of the tomato rice that came with the sea bass. It was extremely salty and we couldn't finish it. The servers were running around in a rush so we couldn't flag anyone to get it taken care of. While I appreciate that they moved quickly to get you taken care of before show start, it was hard to get anyone's attention because the whole scene here is completely rushed. While the food was alright, I am not inspired to return and probably won't come back. Overall, it's just really cramped, compacted and the staff, while attentive to some didn't seem to be attentive to us. It was a really odd dining experience.

I liked the skin contact wine they're serving now. Light, refreshing and some fun pear and apple notes with light floral finish. The New Fashioned tasted very much like an Old Fashioned. Damn...I thought the world went away, but there was a line straight out the door as late evening turned to night. With some folks giving up after using their wait time for drinks and snacks on the benches outside. Spring peas are excellent. That ricotta gremolata is just a nice dressing for the blanced snap peas. Caesar beef tartare Just darling how the bread is sliced into cubes to mimic croutons, so you can mix it all up and eat it like salad if you want. I wish the beef was seasoned a touch more. Lobster rillettes or lobster salad? Don't know and don't care...it's pretty tasty, but a touch more salt would make it even better. The super thin crepe is a nice surprise. Also got the steak frites...a cut that is sous vide before a hearty pan sear with au poivre sauce. Frites served separately to preserve crispness and an aioli. This is a case where the frites were a touch too salty for me. The chowpup did not notice and consumed with a gusto. I wasn't a fan of the crème caramel...the caramel was a touch over for me...just a little too bitter and the custard felt to airy and not vanilla or sweet enough to counter the caramel. They had just run out of the strawberry sorbet. Thanks to Brad for a nice evening!

We were greeted immediately by the Mother Wolf host when we arrived (as Bar Avoja is located inside Mother Wolf). While I believed I had made a reservation for Bar Avoja, I had made a mistake and there was no reservation, but the staff were able to seat us immediately when we arrived anyway. The interior of Bar Avoja is gorgeous. With decadent red curtains all around the bar, and a dim-lit interior, it feels a little bit like you're in Eyes Wide Shut. A waitress soon came over to take our orders. She was super friendly and gave us both drink and food recommendations. We ended up ordering four dishes, and were pretty stuffed by the end. The dishes we got included the sfincione (focaccia like a garlic knot), the octopus skewers, squash blossoms, and frittatina alla norma. The sfincione and the frittatina were the standouts of the meal, and they were both carby dishes so they filled us up. There isn't a lot on the menu, so I'm not sure if I'd recommend it as a place to get a full dinner, unless you're okay with the lack of variety.

It's a lounge in every sense -- bigger than you'd expect, lots of armchairs and cushions, low tables, and just enough dim lighting (one small lamp per table) to set the mood. We showed up around 6:30pm on a Saturday and it was pretty empty, which honestly made for a lovely, relaxed start to the evening. A heads up if you're coming with a vegetarian: the food menu is limited, and vegetarian options are slim. There were really only three when we visited: * Sfincione All'Aglione: garlic knot-style bread, tasty but I actually prefer the sfincione over at Mother Wolf * Frittatina alla Norma: rigatoni-style lasagne cut into fried squares, served with sauce. A fun concept, but mostly tasted like the breading and fried flavor. * Fried squash blossoms: we skipped these Our waiter did offer an off-menu margherita pizza for my vegetarian friend, which was a nice touch. As a non-vegetarian, I had the hamburger - usually a Thursday-only item that they extended through Mother's Day weekend - and while it was good (hot, crunchy fries included), $38 felt steep and honestly... at a Roman Italian bar, I'd probably just order off the actual menu next time. The cocktails are where this place really shines: * Morso Di Vita: passion fruit forward with tomato and basil -- excellent, would reorder immediately * Robusta: ginger forward, light and refreshing * Sole Dorato: billed as a spicy margarita, served with an adorable little honey stick One tip: ask about dessert! We weren't offered it and almost missed out. So glad we asked because we ended up with: * Budino al gianduia (I think, no photo of dessert menu): amazing. Crunchy bits on top, thick chocolate ganache layer. Get this. * Passion fruit mandarin sorbet: light, tart, refreshing - a great way to finish Service was friendly throughout and the pacing felt easy. Overall I'd go back for the cocktails & vibe and to actually explore the non-vegetarian menu more. Currently on Inkind if you want a discount! Parking: Hollywood meters can be tricky - I'd suggest heading south on Wilcox where you can usually find something a few blocks into the neighborhood. Or just do valet and enjoy the night.
