    Smoked mackerel and cheese jot!
    Ryan V.

Alma's is such a gem! Came through on a Monday for trivia night (and won, no big deal) and had an awesome time. The vibe is cute and quirky--definitely one of those places that feels like a neighborhood hangout in the best way. The cider and craft beer list is stacked--lots of unique options, and everything we tried was solid. The smoked mackerel was a standout: super flavorful and served on a plate that made the whole experience fun and memorable. It is a smaller spot, and there was only one bartender holding it down, so things got a little busy at times, but the staff was super friendly and handled it like pros. Definitely recommend swinging by on a Monday if you're looking for good drinks, good vibes, and a little healthy trivia competition.

Isaac Newton once observed an apple falling from a tree and came up with the theory of gravity. What the tale doesn't include is the second apple that fell from the tree and landed in East Hollywood in the form of a quaint neighborhood cider location with over 100 ciders in rotation. This establishment feels like a hidden gem and should remain one. Between the snack sized plates that are fixed behind the bar or the miniature town built into the window ledge or surprising cider flavors (strawberry, rhubarb, yuzu, ginger, smoky, horseradish??!!, apple... duh), this bar could be the worlds finest cider experience. This tucked away beer/cider bar is incredible. From the warm and inviting decor to the vast selection of beers/ciders/wines- its an amazing date night spot. The bartenders are very knowledgeable and everything they suggested based off of my preferred tastes were amazing. 10/10 stars and we will definitely be back. Theres nothing like this place anywhere else in LA.

There is nothing more to say about Alma's that hasn't been said already. The interior is done by one of my favorite interior design groups shout out to @design_bitches, but the owner has also put a lot of nice personal touches. This cider bar offers a very wide range of selections, truly something for everyone, but it's the staff and their knowledge of cider that puts it over the top for me. I don't love being there when it's too crowded, but when you walk in and it's just a few people and the sun comes in just right - the vibe is immaculate.

Amazing cider bar, blown away at their selection and knowledge ! Dark cozy vibe, and Alice was amazing and really guided us through the selections. Tried a bunch of ciders snd a waffle.. next time we'll try some cheeses! Can't wait to return and try more apple ciders...

Tiny but cozy bar with a large selection of tasty ciders (on tap and in bottles and cans) and snacks. Friendly staff, good service. The place was packed on a Saturday evening, we grabbed the last available table. My only complaint is it's really dark inside.

A cute intimate bar! The cider selection is so wide, and the host is so friendly and chill. It's good place for any occasions such as a date, small friends gathering, reunion!!! I would love to go back and just relax and talk :)

Unfortunately, there is only one unisex restroom, so depending on how busy they are or if there is a popular themed event you can expect to be waiting in a line for a while. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with mushroom gravy, my boyfriend got the Hungarian brat with spaetzle, and our friend ordered the Hungarian brat on a roll. Starting with the schnitzel: it wasn't completely terrible, but it definitely wasn't good. The breading was some what soggy and sliding off the chicken, and the chicken itself had almost no seasoning besides an odd lemony sourness. The mashed potatoes were honestly awful -- extremely sour, like they were overloaded with sour cream but missing butter, salt, or any real flavor. I LOVE mashed potatoes and only managed two bites before giving up. The red cabbage was overcooked, mushy, and had a slightly off taste. Overall, the schnitzel plate was maybe a 2/10, and those points go solely to the fact that the chicken itself was technically edible. My boyfriend's meal somehow managed to be worse. The bratwurst was fine, but tasted frozen and reheated rather than fresh. The sauerkraut, according to him, "tasted like dirty socks." The spaetzle was genuinely offensive -- mushy, overly bland, and tossed with what looked like hydrated diced mushrooms that literally tasted like dirt. I honestly questioned whether it had gone bad. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself felt dirty and had a strange smell throughout. It honestly seems like a place locals may still visit out of habit or convenience, but it no longer reflects what I imagine it once was. It's unfortunate, because there's something special about a restaurant that's been around for 65 years and still tries to maintain its old-school charm. Sadly, the food and cleanliness just don't live up to that legacy anymore. Save your money unless you're only stopping in for an overpriced German draft beer. We definitely won't be back.

My gal pal and I came here on a Friday evening for wine flights and bites, and it reminded me why this place has remained such a neighborhood staple over the years. The inside bar was completely packed, but we lucked out and snagged one of the little outdoor tables. We shared the tater tots and a charcuterie board, while my friend got the Croque Monsieur. Everything paired perfectly with the wine flight we ordered from a visiting winemaker from Spain. His name escapes me, but it was such a cool experience getting to hear him talk through each wine personally. Covell does a great job bringing in unique guest winemakers and making wine feel approachable and fun rather than intimidating. I had placed a phone order, for pick up; upon arrival, I found the service was prompt. I saw my food ready to go, just past the main walk-in area. Almost immediately after that, I was taken care of by the host and on my way. I've been waiting to try this place for ages so on the drive back to work I was excited to steal a piece of meat from the bag. Initial bite flavor was good, meat was tender just a bit on the chewy side.. I wasn't bothered by it too much as I'd have to leave it in an oven warmer at work. Trying to keep food warm, in doing so, I knew there'd be only two possible outcomes, melting tender or either tough & dry. So, the dish of meat and rice sat in the warmer for almost an hour hour and a half. The downhill slope.... Set the "meat " on the veggies and began to eat. Meat after meat, I kept experiencing the same exact texture. It was the same exact rubbery chew, I initially tasted. Each and every piece was the same exact flavor. There was no peak, there was no pitfall. If you cook or grill, you know this is a red flag. Normally, consistency would be a good thing, a Master craftsman type experience, but this was NOT it. As go on, I get the sinking feeling, this can't be real meat. I lock in, the deeper I dig, each piece looks the same, broken apart the same, tastes the same, just various shapes. They can call me crazy for this one - I'll stand by it. Something is not right here. I'm not even going to throw it away. I'm going to study it for the next few days and post an updated review. I hope I'm wrong but as of right now, I'll never revisit this place. Too freaky of an experience. We
