The bartender was so sweet and let us sample some as well until we landed on our desired. The place is so cute with its decorations and interior design. However its tinyyyy. Even though there's outdoor seating anticipate this place to get packed or even feel packed even at under capacity. Its an intimate setting that I think does best with its neighborhood bar environment and drinks for a first date but i wouldnt exactly bring all the girls here you know? I would say while they have food and snacks here its not their priority and a bit on the pricer side so I would say at the end of the day this place is a proper bar. Alma's is such a gem! Came through on a Monday for trivia night (and won, no big deal) and had an awesome time. The vibe is cute and quirky--definitely one of those places that feels like a neighborhood hangout in the best way. The cider and craft beer list is stacked--lots of unique options, and everything we tried was solid. The smoked mackerel was a standout: super flavorful and served on a plate that made the whole experience fun and memorable. It is a smaller spot, and there was only one bartender holding it down, so things got a little busy at times, but the staff was super friendly and handled it like pros. The type of neighborhoody vibey place I love! The beers here are so good. There are food items available too. Service is friendly and super attentive. It's like my glass was always full somehow! It's small but there's seating in side and outside. My only complaint is you must park on the street of you drive there. We had just built up a thirst climbing the relatively close Laurel and Hardy Music Box Stairs. We are casual cider fans, but you don't need to be an expert to enjoy yourself. They have offerings for the novice to the aficionado. This place is clean and friendly. Although we had nothing to eat, the food looked great. This is a real treat. read more

What the tale doesn't include is the second apple that fell from the tree and landed in East Hollywood in the form of a quaint neighborhood cider location with over 100 ciders in rotation. There is nothing more to say about Alma's that hasn't been said already. The interior is done by one of my favorite interior design groups shout out to @design_bitches, but the owner has also put a lot of nice personal touches. This cider bar offers a very wide range of selections, truly something for everyone, but it's the staff and their knowledge of cider that puts it over the top for me. Parking is difficult, be prepared to walk, don't even try to find a spot near, go to Santa Monica near Vermont and walk. Neighborhood is a bit sketch. And there is a homeless guy living in a wooden box and his car right outside the bar. Like a few feet from where you sit outside. They have security but it's a bit weird. Good spot nevertheless if you are into cider. I would have given 5 stars if not for that homeless guy ambiance. read more

This is the cutest little cider house I have ever seen. Small but really good vibe. The bartender was extremely knowledgeable and gave great recommendations to try. Our bartender went above and beyond with explaining the different styles of cider and gave us excellent recommendations. Because I want to keep this bijou little tavern as much of a secret as possible, a secret only I know where a barstool is always open for me. This new bar in Virgil Village ― that little triangle of territory south of Los Feliz, southwest of Silver Lake, north of Westlake, and east of Hollywood ― serves beer and wine, but its specialty is cider. Whether it's a still cider from northern Spain; a dry, tannic English-style cider; a semi-dry cider from New Zealand infused with exotic guava-like fruits; or a sweet Polish perry (pear cider), Alma's should have something to please the cider fan looking for something new ― along with a selection from names like Anxo and Shacksbury for those wanting something familiar. Their selection of drinks ― beer, wine, and cider ― is eclectic, unique, and fun. The atmosphere is just as good: Alma's is a bar for adults. The music is not too loud or intrusive. The walls are painted cerulean, and there are quirky art details throughout like a layer of miniature landscapes under the bar running along the window and handmade tiles in the restrooms. Add to that the proprietors' knowledge and passion for each of the products they serve, one definitely gets the impression that Alma's is not just a bar but a passion project.
