This historic location, with its dark interior and wood paneling, offers a limited menu of appetizers and casual lunch/dinner items such as sandwiches, fries, and a burger. My friend ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, which he declared very good. The whole sandwich was dipped in chili oil and served with jalapeños, so it was spicy indeed. Just what he ordered. I had lager-steamed mussels with sour dough toast. I love steamed mussels, as a rule, but I usually have had them steamed with wine and butter. These were, as the name suggests, steamed with lager. Unfortunately, lager is somewhat bitter that militates against the inherent sweetness of the mussels, so I didn't enjoy them so much. The dark, toasted bread was good dipped in the broth to soften it up. Service was cheerful and attentive, and the background music of soft rock oldies, played low enough for easy conversation, created a pleasant ambience. I would definitely visit again, but I would not order mussels in lager. read more

Attended a friend's birthday gathering at The Black Cat and had a great time. Knowing that part of Silver Lake, I took public transportation so it was easy getting there and didn't have to look for parking. The exterior has been beautified with a memorial stone describing what The Black Cat stood (and still) stands for, a seating outdoor area and an always busy standing area near the front door. The door guy let us in and it was easy to spot the birthday party near the front part of the bar! Fun seating area that faces the outside. We went to the bar to order drinks. Since it was a Saturday night the place was packed but the bartenders are fast and friendly! Looking around there is a dining area further into the venue if you'd like to sit and chill. Definitely coming back to try the food! read more

I love their outdoor patio area! Highly recommend for bigger groups or if you have pets. You have to drive around to get free neighborhood street parking, but this is a nice area, so you can enjoy you walk, too. Staff are incredibly friendly. They have a good happy hour during the week that ends at 6pm. Drinks and food are great. Prices are average if it's not happy hour. Outdoor ordering is all using QR codes, your phone, their site, and digital payments. They are very fast with your orders. The inside is a nice atmosphere, too. I highly recommend The Black Cat. read more

It's cute! The food and drinks were really nice. Whether it's their fries, steak, fish or mixed drinks, The Black Cat nailed it all on the head. The food is probably what would bring me back here. Few things about the scene - it looks cleaner in the photos than it looks/feels in person. The entrance door is open which invites a natural breeze, but it also invites flies. We sat all the way on the inside of the restaurant and flies were still helping themselves. Tables and seats are worn. When we went, some parts were sticky. I checked out another table and felt something similar, so I just tried to make myself as comfortable as possible by not moving from my seat. Service was not the best. Maybe it's because there were two of us, but we almost received no attention here. It felt like the waiters were more interested in people at the bar, so we had to flag down a few different waiters that were coming in and out of the kitchen for some help. read more

The Black Cat was an amazing time! The service here is great, super friendly staff and very attentive! We went with a large group of 9 people and they were very accommodating. We started off with many appetizers. We tried the fries with and without truffle. I would say it's okay to skip the additional truffle since they combine it with parmesan -- would only get if you're a fan of both! Also, a lot of the entrees come with a side of fries! The brussels sprouts were amazing and had a lot of different layers of flavors, both sweet and smoky. The green beans were good, but not a must get! The calamari was fried well but the pieces were a bit small. I ordered the burger as my entree. It was a huge burger and came with a side of fries. I loved the bun and it was quite fluffy. The flavors of the burger with the meat, sauce, cheese and pickles pair well together. I do think some parts of either my bun or patty were a bit burnt and you could definitely taste that. For dessert, we got the bread pudding which was AMAZING! Would definitely recommend, it reminded me of a chocolate chip cookie but pillowy and delicious! read more

We came for a late lunch everything we had was amazing! We ordered the chicken sandwich, maniche alla vodka and brussels sprouts. Everything was incredibly savory and had an incredibly unique flavor palette, we particularly love the black garlic aïoli with brussels sprouts. The service was perfect and the vibe is dark and cozy. read more

Stopped by The Black Cat on a random Tuesday evening and really enjoyed everything about it. The atmosphere was moody and relaxed, service was great, and food and drinks hit the spot. Definitely a place I'd want to come back to. read more

Fun spot for a night out! We went at about 10pm on a Friday and waited like 10 minutes for a table of 3. I enjoyed the Breakfast Buck since it had a unique smoky taste. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Candy Cigarette. It was a little too syrup-y for me. The music was pretty loud the night we went, so it was hard to hear the my friends sitting in front of me. Good place for a hang, but a little hard to make too much conversation. read more

The pivotal pre-stonewall activities around this space deserve multiple late night deep dives. Extremely accommodating service. They found us a seat w/o a proper reservation, and the place was lively. Ordered the hummingbird, which was unexpectedly herbaceous. Tangy with smoky undertones. Refreshing. I quite enjoyed it. The husband got the bellhop, which he said was fine but not mind blowing. We ordered the Chicken liver toast, fried mozzarella, and chicken sandwich hot and spicy. The husband got the mussels. Chicken liver toast was served w mustard seed and berry compote, which highlighted the buttery fatness. The toast wasn't crunchy and a bit difficult to cut, but the pickled vegetables were fantastic. The fried mozzarella was simple and decently executed, somewhat generic and forgettable. Better than standard mozzarella sticks. The fries were crisp and perfectly seasoned. A+. That chicken sandwich was toothsome and juicy. Def worthy of a repeat visit. I'll be thinking abt this sandwich for a while. Of his mussels, the husband appreciated the spicy broth but was underwhelmed by the crusty bread it accompanied. I had a wonderful experience personally, hence the 4 stars, but proceed with caution. read more

Okay, this place is a whole mood. The Black Cat gets the vibe right. There's a nice patio out in front, but the real flex is the big corner patio which is both open yet still private, adorned in greenery, and perfect for long hangs and good conversations. Lowkey confused why this spot isn't rated higher because everything hit. Service was on point, cocktails were legit, and the food absolutely delivered. So much so I peeked in the kitchen and thanked the chef. The garlic shrimp is a must order. Like, don't even think about skipping it! Perfectly cooked, super flavorful, and plated beautifully. The fish and chips stayed crispy all the way through (rare and appreciated), and the cavatelli was super creative with this subtle mint undertone that somehow works really well. If you haven't been here yet, you're sleeping on it. Chill but elevated, great energy, great food, great drinks. I'll 100% be back. read more

I checked this bar out with a couple of friends on my birthday weekend on a whim. The people are great and friendly, everyone is easy to talk to and approachable. The drinks, my friends shared, are great. I had a non-alcoholic cocktail and enjoyed it too. Decor and ambiance are exceptional. There are different portions of the restaurant for different groups. There are even secluded rooms for, what I assume is, company-wide dinners or something similar. Very accommodating place for anyone and everyone. read more

The vibe of this place is very intimate and laid back during the afternoon. We came in for happy hour which had some great prices but I didn't really love that I didn't know what type of wine I got. The menu just says white wine or red wine which I thought was a little strange. The service was great though, I felt very take care of and looked after while we were here. I would love to come back and venture off of the happy hour menu next time. read more

I've always really liked this place. It's been around a long time and is a bit nicer than an average pub. I've also always loved the burger! BUT... I went tonight, and the price now for a burger and fries is $27. Two years ago it was $17. That's a 58% increase on a burger and fries in two years. The price of beef has increased significantly over the past two years, but not by 58%. A $27 burger at a pub is a reason not return. Stop raising prices crazy amounts. Nobody's going to be able to afford to eat out anymore. read more

If you're looking for a nice chill bar for cocktails, this place offers just that. We stopped by right after they opened which was quiet. Obviously, think we were like the second couple to arrive. There's the main bar counter area, you have the dining area as well as the outdoor front counter and picnic tables outside around the building. Outside, you could order from the QR code. It was nice out so a pint of beer and people watching right outside the entrance. Im not sure if they have happy hour on the weekend but by the time we were finished, the bar area was full. Could be happy hour or just people popping in for a drink. It's a full bar as well as a restaurant. We normally just stop by for a drink. read more

We traveled through some potholed and graveled streets in L.A. for this place on Sunday and it was worth it. Just a heads up when its 2pm Sunday, just come in they don't open the doors. We had a great waitress Lady V. She seated us and had the menus with the bottled water ready. Cocktails! We had the chocolate covered banana and the code name....The bartendar was the real deal! Those drinks from the first taste had us ready for the second round! The yellow jacket (reminds me of a naked and famous) was really good. Now for the food. The burger as juicy and cooked just the way I like it with just a little pink in the middle. Make sure you get your fries with truffle on them. Caeser salad, shrimp toast, cavatelli all good and for dessert that bread pudding is worth two hours on the treadmill. Great service, great bartendar and good food. That's how you do a Sunday! Swing by if you are in the area. read more

After hearing the LGBT history around the Black Cat, I felt had to pay my dues and visit the lore. It has a 1950s New York bistro vibe but elevated with a twist of modernity in the decor. Super chill but yet feels like a place you could have an amazing date at the same time. It feels like the occasion. Could casual. Could be slightly fancy. It's what you want it to be. I was in love with the woodwork, guessing it's original. You're probably wondering about the food. Superb! Loved the live pate toast and the steak frites were yum yum. They've got a good wine and cocktail menu so you won't go thirsty either. read more

What a gem, especially with such historic and cultural meaning for the LGBTQ+ community! The food, wine list and service were all excellent. The food was better than I expected, especially their salad and steak. The beet salad was amazing and the steak was cooked to perfect medium rare. We enjoyed the chicken liver toast, which pared beautifully with the gamay we got. Moreover enjoyed the cavatelli pasta dish we got with calabrian peppers (don't see if on the online menu now). Finally, we finished with the basque cheesecake, which is my favorite cheesecake. Could be a bit more caramelized but enjoyed every bite. I was told they had an interesting wine menu and they did. They got me at Gamay but had another Spanish Red, Trepat, I have never had that was somewhere between a pinor noir and a sancerre rouge chilled. Also had the Cinsault, I didn't get to try yet. We had a great server who fit the vibe. Welcoming and friendly and kept with the temp of our meal. Also the atmosphere is like a big clean pub and great people watching, especially the week before Halloween when all the costume parties start from DTLA to WeHo! read more

My go-to spot after a long day at work. Love their Lambrusco. Sammy is the bar manager there and she's absolutely lovely, all about the community vibes she creates at the bar. I've tried a couple of dishes (tuna crudo is a fav), their kitchen is usually closed by the time I'm off work-- I believe 10pm is the cut off most days. Very vegetarian friendly menu for my planty friends. I also appreciate the decor, the history + art throughout the space. It's a definitely a Silverlake staple for me. There's private rooms for parties + a space out front that's smoke-friendly! Love yall, Black Cat. read more

I have been meaning to go to The Black Cat for a while, but I just haven't been in the area during open hours to partake. I finally was there (at opening hehe) and got to test out the food. The drink menu looked great but I had things to do so I got myself the burger. It was very juicy and the fries were also fantastic! The Black Cat was a pleasant surprise. I expected more of a dive bar feel but it is actually a nicer spot with a cool bar and a polished atmosphere. The drink selection is great and everything felt well thought out. I ordered the berry IPA on tap and it was excellent, refreshing and flavorful. We also got fries to go with the beer and they were exactly how I like them, crispy and salty. The service was great and the bartenders were friendly and attentive. I went on a Friday night, didn't have a reservation but the host was super friendly and able to seat us right away. The Black Cat - The Burger. Perfectly cooked and fries were on point. - New American Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Came here on a Saturday afternoon for drinks with a friend. The greeter was friendly and we liked the vibe of the bar especially the cat themed menu. Stayed for a couple hours catching up. The drinks are on the pricier side but hey, it's Silver Lake. My only issue is that the female bartender made the cocktail drinks consistently not filled to the top so on top of a $20 drink, I only received $16 worth of it and had to tip on $20. Everyone in the bar who had a cocktail in a cup were shortchanged when served. However, when the male bartender made drinks, his pours were consistently what you'd expect at a bar. Thank you, male bartender. read more

This spot we chose for our incredible Saint Valentines Date & what a success! The host was kind and fun and accommodating upon our entrance. Our server Will was so very nice and helped us both choose what we needed to order. The cocktails are a bit on the baby sized but are strong and pack a punch! The amazing Will described a great wine from the Georgian region and it was impeccable. We suggest you order the steak frites and the french onion appetizer with a chocolate soufflé to finish. We will be back and enjoy soon thank you Will & Black Cat! We had the best time. read more

Stopped by for a drink here with a few friends and wow what a vibe. It's nice and loungey on the inside with plenty of booth seating. The drinks were also quite solid, and well made. No complaints - and on the stronger side as well! It's a great place for a date or to catch up with a few friends. The space is dimly lit. Music not too loud. There's some bar seating near the entrance as well. The service was kind and quick. We unfortunately didn't get a chance to eat here but would consider it next time!
