Nice, cozy place to have a drink. It's called Big Bar but the bar is pretty regular sized lol. Inside had a cozy, home-like decor. They have a nice big front patio and additional seating in the back. The Alcove Cafe is attached so you can order food there and bring it to the bar side. It's a good place to get some work done during the day or get a drink at night. They have a happy hour Mon-Fri 2-7, highlights are the $2 off drafts, $8 wines, and $10 cocktails. I came in for a drink after work. Can definitely recommend the paloma, Irish coffee, and Alison cocktails. Service was great. Friendly staff. There's street meter parking up and down the block. read more

Yikes. What I thought would be a fun place for happy hour (given that I like the Alcove restaurant) turned into a nightmare. A couple beside me at the bar was so intoxicated and the man was literally openly groping the woman and dry humping her. It was insanely awkward and uncomfortable and the bartenders and staff saw it and didn't say a word about it. They just let it continue and continue for easily a half hour...I got up and left, they may still be doing it. read more

I came here to hang out with my friend because this looked like a nice place. The way they serve food is similar to Panera and Corners Bakery where you go to the cashiers to pay for your food 1st and then bring the table number to your table. They have great drinks and the food was tasty. If you are looking for parking, you'll be parking on the street. However, if you valet park there, it's $15; which in my opinion is ridiculous because they will still park your car on the street. I will definitely come back if I ever have a celebration or a hang out with friends to go to. read more

Really cool spot I'd never been to before. It seems like they share a space with the coffee shop next door (and both have access to a nice outdoor area). The bar itself is nice. Not too big (despite the name), but also not terribly crowded (at least not on a Wednesday). I tried a few drinks and all were nice. One of them was called something like "Before Breakfast" and came with a small toast point with marmalade on it. Another was a lavender flavored one that I really enjoyed (I'm BIG on lavender). I also tried a classic old fashioned, and that was good too! Really looked like I couldn't go wrong with whatever I ordered! Would definitely want to go back and see what else they have. Came in here for Happy Hour before going to our concert at the Greek Theater. Happy Hour starts from 2pm - 7pm. They have a small selection of drinks you can choose from. Wines($8), beers($5) and their cocktail of the day ($10) which happened to be the daiquiri. The daiquiri was very delicious! We ordered everything off the happy hour food menu which was fun to snack on. The Big Bar is actually on the same property right next to the Alcove Cafe. It has a nice modern bar top as well as a beautiful scenic outdoor seating. The parking in the area is difficult but they do have a valet service out in front. Overall, I enjoyed our happy hour experience. I even grabbed an espresso next door afterwards. I'd come check it out for the atomspehere and happy hour. read more

What a great gem! My family and I went here for a causal Labor Day late afternoon happy hour outing. Love the aesthetic; gave me very cozy woody, meets hipster vibes. Restaurant and bar staff were all so friendly. There was plenty of seating, and they have plenty of delicious food options. I highly recommend trying their craft drinks - they're both tasty and cute. My only qualm was I tried to call ahead to reserve a table, and the pre recorded line stated they weren't taking reservations. This isn't the place for a vodka tonic and you need to wait a bit for your cocktail as there is quite a bit of care taken. But these are the most complex and flavorful cocktails. Came here on a Friday night around 6pm before seeing Kacey Musgraves at The Greek...what a gem! Plenty of outdoor seating on their adorable patio, but we opted to sit inside with a view of the old-fashioned bar. Cocktails were fresh and very pretty, and the food was delicious. This is the place to go for drinks!!!! Their food here is pretty good as well. The bartenders are mixologists and they make very balanced beverages. Balanced as in the right amount of alcohol + harmonious flavors. They make a mighty good Old Fashioned. I love that they know and love their alcohols. We ordered chips+ guac and some truffle oil fries, to go with our 5 rounds of drinks. We had the Lawn Chair, Tigermom Gimlet, Bianco Sangria, and an Old Fashioned with Rye. ALL OF THEM WERE SPOT ON and tasty. I usually order my Old Fashioned here and did enjoy my Totoro drink last time I was there. The vibe and crowd are definitely diverse. It's a hip place to be and it gets packed at times, but I love hanging out at the bar and seeing the bartenders at work. I LOVE KARI & EUGENE (not sure if he's there anymore). I've been coming to Big Bar for years and can personally testify to its flawless service and cutting edge creativity. I have to admit, however, that I've never felt welcome or particularly valued as a customer. Even when I was a regular, the staff whisked by me in silence with little warmth or recognition. I think the problem is that Big Bar has no identity. It occupies a tiny corner of a mediocre--but immensely popular--cafe, catering expressly to the industry set of Los Feliz. The coldness is unusual for neighborhood bar, more appropriate to the Soho House than a joint occupying the same block as The Drawing Room. To the bartenders at Big Bar, I applaud your professionalism. As Hillhurst completes its grim evolution into millionaire's row, I'm sure your discretion will be both appreciated and rewarded. I do like cocktails, so when I got to the front of the line I asked for the cocktail of the day. The employee at the register told me what it was and I said "great!" They then charged me $20 for the drink... I said no, I want the happy hour cocktail of the day... the employee said that they didn't have a happy hour cocktail of the day that day (what?!) I asked if I could just get a happy hour well drink or something else, whatever was happy hour priced, but apparently no mixed drink were happy hour priced that day So be warned when things do open up again that they may or may not actually have happy hour drinks and instead you'll be charged for a $20 drink made mostly of some seltzer drink in a can read more
