    Smoked Dashi Ramen
    Daniel K.

My wife and I really enjoyed our meal here. I got the smoked dashi ramen and it was unlike ramen anything I had ever had. Personally, I really like the flavor profile of smoke so this really hit the spot for me. I'd highly recommend this ramen to anyone else who likes smokey food. We also shared a large mango kakigori. We probably could've gotten a medium because I didn't now how large it would be. Regardless, this was a delicious dessert and I would get again.

We celebrated Mr's birthday dinner at Tonchin and overall had a wonderful experience. The food was truly amazing. We tried the fish, chicken, and vegan bao buns -- all were excellent. The buns were incredibly soft and the fillings were absolutely delicious. The curry chili cheese chicken is a must-have -- the curry powder coating was so aromatic and flavorful, easily one of the standout dishes of the night. Everyone enjoyed their ramen, but the unanimous favorite was the Miso Ginger Ramen. The Tonkotsu Classic was great as well. The ambience was perfect for a birthday celebration with friends -- lively yet comfortable for a group dinner. The only downside was related to cake cutting. I had confirmed in advance that bringing a cake would be fine, and was told yes, but we were not informed about the $5 per person cake-cutting charge. When we mentioned this, the response felt dismissive, stating it was a standard policy across Californian restaurants. As someone visiting from New Jersey who has celebrated many birthdays at restaurants without such a charge, a simple advance mention -- and a more courteous explanation -- would have been appreciated. This was the only negative in an otherwise fun and memorable birthday evening.

This is a decent spot for premium-tasting ramen. I tried their NYC spot a few years ago and so was eager to try this location. -Tonchin Classic Tokyo Tonkotsu: Broth has a tasty salty kick to it which I liked and tasted clean/premium. Noodle texture was excellent and tasted like a premium version of the instant Shin Ramen. But the portion of noodles was small. Char siu resembled sliced ham which was not my cup of tea. -Spicy Tan Tan: The broth was okay with an adequate degree of spiciness. Broth did have an interesting flavor that resembled Dan Dan mian. -Strawberry Kakigori: This was okay and the main thing carrying this dessert was the cream on top. This cream had a pleasant sweetness. I thought the strawberry flavoring was a bit too sour and bland.

The bowl of Ramen was huge-- rich, flavorful broth, perfectly chewy noodles, and toppings that hit every note. The service was fast and efficient. I would also like to mention the ambience was very cozy, perfect for date night. (Maybe not 1st date) We left full, happy, and already craving our next visit!

Delicious! I loved their classic tonkatsu ramen and their chicken wings too! For dessert - Tokyo banana bread pudding was bomb! Service was very good. They served hot tea from Kettl - their sobacha is perfect for a caffeine free option! Very cute inside, street parking around or valet.

I asked about the miso ginger ramen and if it was spicy at all and was assured it's not. I asked to take out the soy meat since I asked and it is marinated and has a kick to it. Same for the menma - and without those, it was still too spicy for me personally but I was able to just eat some of the noodles without the soup out of the bowl. Took the rest home for my Gf. Sadly won't be able to bring my family here. They wouldn't let me swap out the soy meat for the nitamago egg, so I got it as an extra. It was cold cause it wasn't in the soup but that worked out well cause the soup would make it spicy for me. Since I'm still very hungry I ordered a mango Kaki-Gori mango thing - after reading the reviews and talking to the staff. It's yum. Lovely. The host and manager type were nice and kind. My server / bartender was ok. Prices are high and they add a "operations fee" of 2.75% which I am not a fan of. It's illegal now to say it goes to the staff since it didn't... but I really don't feel it's ok to talk that on the 20% tip and 10% tax. Ambiance at 6pm on a Monday was nice. Not too crowded or loud. I can imagine it gets to be both of those things at peak times. High ceiling and concrete floors will not be helpful sound wise so if that's a thing... keep it in mind.

I like this place! The vibes, food, + service were all great. Ordered: - Cucumber (3/10, parents liked it but personally this was really mayo heavy and the portion was not reasonable for the price. Didn't have more than one bite) - 2 Tokyo classic (9/10, I usually lean towards dipping ramens or clear broth but I would def order tonkotsu from here!) - Tsukemen (8.5/10, the chashu was something I've never tasted before. It tasted more like honey baked ham. I didn't like it. The broth itself was very very rich and flavorful. It had a fishy taste and powdery texture. Unique but would get again) - Mango shaved ice (10/10, I'm Filipino so this tasted exactly like what I was expecting: sweet and super refreshing. Feels great after having heavy ramen)

This ramen was the closest we could find to ramen from a spot in Japan. The flavor and depth of the broth are spot on. The drinks were refreshing and unique using various ingredients I hadn't thought about using in a cocktail. The desert was very niche and I appreciated the various textures in it from the pudding, caramelized banana, crunchy wafer and the whipped cream. Service was extremely fast and they were so kind.

Ramen: good Matcha martinis: Yum! Mushroom kimchi: different, good! Service was very attentive. We came during an off time so they weren't very busy. Restaurant is spacious and clean.

I usually go to Killer Noodle in Sawtelle if I want tan tan ramen but I decided to try this place out. There's no parking lot so you need to find street parking or pay $10 for valet parking at the front. There's plenty of neighborhood streets where you can park and walk over. I really enjoyed the chewiness of the noodles. It was perfectly cooked. The broth was deep and rich and the ramen just tasted like a high quality version of Killer Noodle. I will definitely come here instead of Killer Noodle. Everything about the ramen was just higher quality.

Visited on a Sunday evening around 5 PM without a reservation and was seated within five minutes. By 6, the restaurant was getting busy, so reservations are definitely recommended during peak hours. The interior is cozy yet trendy which makes it an inviting space that works equally well for date nights or group gatherings. The menu goes beyond ramen, offering desserts and a well-stocked bar that adds to the overall experience. Our table enjoyed everything we tried, especially the Tan Tan Ramen, which stood out for its rich flavor and balance. The Tokyo Banana and Matcha Shaved Ice were both delightful, though a touch on the sweeter side. (Small note: the matcha dessert is quite strong, so caffeine-sensitive diners might want to keep that in mind.) Overall, Tochin LA delivered a satisfying meal and a warm dining atmosphere. I'll definitely be back.

I recently visited this spot based on a friend's recommendation, and we decided to try a few different dishes. Here's what we had: Apps. Cucumber Bites: Crispy and refreshing, with a unique apple-onion sauce that added a nice twist. Kimchi Mushroom: A cold dish that wasn't really my favorite, but the flavor was definitely bold. Shishito Peppers: These were seasoned perfectly and definitely stood out for me! The Fish Bun was saucy, with a sweet chili ginger glaze and a tangy tartar sauce The Classic Tonkotsu Ramen was solid, but the Smoked Dashi Ramen was the real star-rich, smoky, and delicious. As for the service, it was fine-nothing remarkable but no complaints either. The restaurant had a cozy, dark vibe with candles at each table. street parking when we went around 745-8. Overall food was okay, would not order the apps again but I would get another smoked dashi :)

Came here on a weeknight and was seated right away. The restaurant has a relaxed and stylish atmosphere that works well for a date night or casual dinner. We ordered the Tebasaki wings, maguro bowl, fried fish bun, unagi rice ball, tsukemen, and matcha kakigori. The wings were crispy and flavorful. The maguro bowl was light and refreshing with the seaweed wraps. The tsukemen had great chewy noodles and a thick flavorful broth. The matcha kakigori was a strong finish with a rich matcha taste. The lighting is dim but still comfortable enough to enjoy your meal, and the interior is clean and nicely decorated. Parking can be tricky in the area, so make sure to check the signs. Overall, a solid spot if you like noodles and Japanese small plates. I'd come back to try more items for sure.

It's just floor to ceiling decorated with everything tiki. So many fun details and even interactive elements that turn on when a particular drink was ordered. That was probably my favorite part honestly. We ordered the Tiki Diablo, which is a large tiki drink with a flaming volcano. And yes it does have an interactive element. It was really good. Very fruity and strong, but not overly so. Service was excellent. Our waitress was on it and even waited to make sure my husband was back from the bathroom before lighting our drink on fire. We didn't try any food this time, but a lot of people were ordering the Hawaiian pizza. Do with that what you may. Will definitely be back ti try more drinks and food. It's one of those spots you go to when you want something different... not just another loud bar.. something immersive and a little mysterious.

The drinks were strong (in the best way ) but still super smooth and enjoyable. Shoutout to Rich for being such an incredible host--he made our group feel welcomed, taken care of, and really elevated the whole experience. A couple things to note: there is parking available, but it is paid (you can either text to pay or use the kiosk machines). The experience itself lasts about 40-60 minutes, which felt like the perfect amount of time. The only downside for me was that the bathroom is shared for both genders. For safety reasons, I personally wish they were separate--so ladies, I'd recommend going with someone just to be safe. You just never know. They also give you a little treat afterwards, which was a really nice touch and a sweet way to end the visit! Overall, I'd definitely come back and recommend it to others

It's not surprising given the neighborhood and decor, but I think they lean towards more Japanese spirits and beers. For someone like me who's never been to Japan I feel like there's a traditional Japanese theme going on inside with lots of wood. A few friends and I came here on a holiday before dinner. Happy hour specials were still going on. I'm not sure if they thought they were gonna get that much business on a holiday but I think there's only maybe one or two people behind the bar. Since it was early when we got there, it was still not that crowded. I got the special which was a shot of Japanese whisky and a beer. Great price! Haha. I've walked by before where this place is really crowded so I assume there's a lot more people working behind the bar during the regular busy hours. Just a great place to grab drink drinks.

No exceptions, as I witnessed a family who really wanted to come in but had an 18 yr old so they weren't allowed in and because they had a minor with them they couldn't even sit outside in their seating area. Always good to know. Inside the bar got super busy. The inside was a bit dark but again it is a bar. I like the decor and the bar seating was packed. The drinks were good if you like whiskey they have it along with lists of beer options. Nice spot to try out.
