I really, really want to like this place. I've eaten here 4 times and each time the food has been disappointing. The first time I ate here, over a year ago, is when I met my boyfriend. Hence the reason that we both want to like it. After the 3rd attempt we vowed we wouldn't go back (unless it was for the Brussel Sprouts and wine/cocktails- things they do well). After reading that they have a new chef we decided to try it again, because it has to be good, right? Nope. I honestly think the reason it gets such high reviews is because of the location being so close to the tourist center. If you consider yourself a foodie, by all means go sit at the bar and have some brussel sprouts with wine or a mixed drink, but find someplace else to have you main meal. By far, I just had the BEST dining experience of my entire life. Let's start with how good the food is!!! The beef carpaccio is the most tender carpaccio I've ever had. The charcuterie plate is handpicked by the chef and has at least 10 different kinds of meats and cheeses, though the best part is the mustard sauces - so tangy and fresh. The tomahawk pork is cooked to perfection, with a pepper, butternut squash sauces that complements the meat so well. No matter how much I talk about the meal, the best part of our experience was by far the service. Our waiter Brian was so warm and kind. So quick to get us everything we needed before we even knew we needed it. And then there's Katie. The manager of all managers. She is so friendly, makes you feel welcome and at home in her restaurant. I feel like I'm eating amongst family. I was blown away by the hospitality of everyone we encountered and I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience in downtown Denver. read more

This place is absolutely the best value for happy hour food and wine in Denver. Happy hour is seven days a week and consists of bar-sized portions of the same type of delicious items in the main restaurant. Prices are $6-8 and they always have good wines for $6 a glass too! My husband and I celebrated our two year anniversary here. The waiter greeted us and we ordered appetizers and nonalcoholic drinks-- he mentioned they would do a mocktail for us. Appetizers were delicious (calamari and focaccia)! We were just having a good time when the drinks came. My husband took a hug swig and realized there was grapefruit in the drink. He is taking chemo medication and cannot have any grapefruit or he could be hospitalized. I let the waiter know, apologizing we didn't even think to mention about the grapefruit (we never order anything other than water and soda--so it didn't cross our minds they'd make a grapefruit drink). He removed the drink and didn't offer anything else or say much. We barely saw him after that. Our food arrived 45 minutes late and was not cooked well. The chicken was very dry and the pasta was undercooked. I had a bite or two of sausage in mine. Disappointing, especially for the $130 we dropped on the "special" meal. My sweet husband stayed through the meal so I could enjoy our special night. He suffered the rest of the evening and next day. Not to be dramatic, of course, but the waiter wrote on our ticket that we "didn't like the drink." This was super incentive and not received well. Hubby and I felt like the waiter thought we were lying, thus avoided our table. We didn't blame him for the drinks, but felt he failed to properly wait on our table after the incident. My husband tipped the man well despite the lack of service. This restaurant typically is great, but they need to coach the staff better around situations like these. Really nice Italian restaurant in downtown Denver. Service was great! I'd give this restaurant overall 4 1/2 stars. They have a tasting menu for $65 four courses. I thought this would be a good idea but the tasting portions were super small I felt for the price. I saw the full servings of the dishes and it was like 8 times the portion of what we got! We did get a full sized dessert! The food here is delicious though. Fresh cut pasta- branzino was amazing. The peach blueberry cobbler so tasty! The chocolate bomba was the only disappointment of the night. Kind of like a cold chocolate cake. read more

I'm in Denver for a conference this weekend and plan on eating my way through the city and Panzano was an excellent first stop! Wife picked it because she was in the mood for Italian. The outside facade of the restaurant doesn't look like much, but the inside is tastefully decorated without being overbearing. We were promptly shown to our table, and the food came just fast enough so as to not kill you with hunger. We ordered the Brussel sprouts (delicious thanks to the apple cider reduction), and the bruschetta (needs a little bit more acidit and crunch, but super fresh and still flavorful). Also had one of their pesto pasta dishes (creamy and rich without overpowering, needs a touch of extra salt). Their chocolate pudding/mousse with grapefruit whipped cream was a nice end to the meal. Their drinks were on point, I had the monkey wrench cocktail and I would highly recommend it for any whiskey/bourbon/scotch aficionado! The service was stellar! My husband and I were looking for a classy place to have Thanksgiving dinner and we decided on Panzano. It was amazing! The staff was very attentive and personable. The price was very reasonable for the amount and quality of food that you got. The soup was some of the best that I have ever tasted. It was followed by great turkey cooked two ways and a tasty dessert. As a final touch, they sent us home with a turkey sandwich goody bag, which made an enormous sandwich which was a good as the original dinner. We will plan on returning next Thanksgiving. read more

The food and service were both stellar. The amuse bouche of the day, a crostini with charred ricotta, balsamic, thyme, and grape slices was well prepared and it's flavor reflected that. The amuse was a sign of good things to come. We sampled through the menu and truly enjoyed the decadent spicy sausage lasagna, a rich and flavorful cheese tortellini with alfredo sauce and duck confit that was extremely well balanced, and seafood saffron risotto with perfectly cooked shrimp and clams. The frito misto was delicious which included calamari, zucchini, and fried pickled peppers that stopped a fellow guest and I in our tracks because of the delightful contrast between the spicy aioli, briny pepper and a fresh squeeze of lemon. Desserts included a really wonderful malted milk gelato, and a to die for tiramisu with chocolate covered espresso beans with chocolate and caramel sauces beautifully laid on the plate. Our server, Mike, was friendly, knowledgeable about both food and beverage, made sure glasses were kept full and paced the food appropriately. Plates were cleared promptly and new silverware was always ready for the next course. We sat at the chefs counter and enjoyed a good rapport with the chefs and cooks on the line. We celebrated my birthday at Panzano last Saturday. Food and service were 5/5, trouble finding the valet (which is noted on their website) and being seated very close to a large party was not so great. We shared bruschetta which was flavourful but honestly I hate ordering bruschetta only to find out every table gets bread. I love bread but not that much! The burrata caprese salad was delicious and a very good portion. I really enjoyed my buccatini pasta entree as well, it was perfectly Al dented! I'd definitely go back for that dish. Our server was very relaxed and welcoming - I appreciated his demeanor a lot. He made a busy, open restaurant feel inviting. We were craving some brunch and found this place near our hotel. We were walking by and saw that It is located in another hotel. We were greeted and seated immediately. My love had the two eggs and I had the pineapple pancakes. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the side of potatoes were good, if you like onions and peppers. My pancakes were amazing! They were soft yet crispy on the edges. Sadly, we aren't from Denver, but when we come back, we will definitely try their dinner! read more

Ever since I told people I needed to go to Denver for work, they've been saying that I need to visit Panzano. Hey, they were right. I visited today during happy hour, and think I got enough of a sense to realize that this is a good restaurant executing (years after it opened) at a high level. Although everything I had was delicious (the meatballs are justifiably revered) I reserve my highest praise for the "barrel aged" Manhattan. I really have no idea why they age it in a barrel, nor why this would be a good thing, nor what flavor this aging imparts on the drink. What I do know is that the Manhattan that emerged from that tap (yes, a tap) was one of the best I've ever had. A friend of mine once commented on this place that it was "yummy but too expensive." That was in 2008. It's still yummy, but with judicious use of the happy hour menu, it's not expensive at all. Highly recommended. read more

Shout out to our waiter for servicing a group a 16! He was hilarious and entertaining and his recommendations were on point. With that said, this restaurant can accommodate a large party, since I came with 15 other people. Just make sure you reserve ahead of time! It's casual fancy so you don't have to dress up to the nines but definitely don't show up casual because then the waiters will look nicer than you, so just try a little. The service here was awesome! I just want to make a note of that because the waiters were very attentive, knowledgable, and quick. The food was also delicious! I ended up sharing the brussel sprouts, meatballs (side), buccatini, and bolognese. brussel sprouts : They were roasted to perfection! Also loved the apples mixed in there because it gave it a nice sweet crunch that tasted delicious with the saltiness of the brussel sprouts. I could eat mounds of this and be happy. They might not be on the menu so you can definitely ask your waiter for it! Meatballs : This was a side dish. The plate comes with three meatballs and toasted bread. It was simple and delicious. The marinara sauce had great flavor, the meatballs were juicy, and the bread was buttery and crisp. Bucatini di Basilico: Wild​ mushrooms, 3 milk robiola fonduta, herbed bread crumbs! It was rich, cheesy, and savory. If you wanted all of that in a pasta then this should be your choice! We also added scallops and it was fantastic! The scallops were seared to perfection! Vitello Bolognese: Braised veal shortrib, farro fazzoletti pasta, puglian tomatoes, ricotta broth. I normally don't like ricotta since it's too heavy but it wasn't in this dish, it actually enhanced the veal shortrib. The veal shortrib was definitely the star of this pasta and you can taste it in each bite! It was tender and flavorful and I almost forgot about the pasta. Definitely a great choice if you're looking for a meatier, heartier pasta. I also go to try the seared duck breast which was SOOOOOOOO good. They know how to cook a duck breast and I was a little jealous I didn't get a full plate for my self. The duck breast and tender and juicy. Why I didn't give this place the 5 stars that I definitely think it should have is because they messed up on the pasta. The first time we got the Bucatini, the pasta was definitely not cooked enough. The noodles stuck together and they were so stiff that it was hard to swirl my fork in the dish to get the noodles. The noodles were just clumpy and you don't want that :( The second time we got the dish, the noodles were definitely better but still too firm for it to be perfectly al dente. If it wasn't for this, I would be more than happy to give this place 5 stars but since they are an italian restaurant known for their pasta dishes, I was surprised to have to return a dish. Started with Piadina con Crescenza (the truffle oil and balsamic reduction was delicious!) and you can't miss the Beets with Lemon Ricotta. I had the recommended Fresh Homemade Basil stuffed noodles & a Rosé, while my friend had the Pesce Fresco w Red. Followed by dessert: Creme Brûlée & Budino di Caramello paired with dessert wine. Panzano has a great reputation in Denver and I knew I had to try it for myself. The happy hour lunch to early dinner offerings lured me in, but the portions were so small, I honestly didn't feel there was any discount here. However, it did allow me to order more and thus try additional things, which itself is a good incentive. I can't say that either the duck pizza or dopoio ravioli with broccoli rabe and sundried tomatoes struck me as particularly great, but they were flavorful and solid dishes for $8 each. The pizza had great crus, but the balsamic onions, which added a nice burst of flavir were sloppily thrown on only half of the pizza. Happy hour does seem to equate to a degree of speed here as they want to flip tables. I was still left hungry by the end, but I chose not to order another plate. My drink, the monkey wrench, was actually the best part of my short meal. At $7 for happy hour, their cocktails are a steal, especially for a nice restaurant. In the end, I would definitely recommend anyone come in for a drink or plate in the mid afternoon. There are options enough that anyone should be satisfied. read more
