A nice diner with little touches of international! Good and generous portions of foods! We got the pork chop and fresh tomato pizza. They were both very generous portions and solid.Sat at the bar-service was standard and ambiance was very casual and timeless.

My late husband and I discovered Nova on the way to The Kessler Theater almost 10 years ago. My daughter and I go back when we are in the area; definitely worth the drive for me. We went on a Sunday early afternoon recently, there was live music; however, people were talking loudly. It appeared that put server was being shadowed by a new employee service was excellent!! Our mimosas were tasty as were the eggs with biscuits and gravy but the french toast casserole was out of this world delicious!! Parking lot is small; some street parking is available. A few tables outside, a small bar inside, booths lined the windows and tables fill in between. There's an additional room that is sometimes used for large groups or overflow seating.

If there's one thing I've learned about restaurants, it's this: if retired people go there, it's good. If they have steady regulars, it's really good. If those steady regulars are retired, you found a golden ticket. Nova is that and more, the perfect blend of the retro aesthetic and demeanor of a neighborhood diner but with food that seriously makes you stop talking after your first bite. It's genuinely my favorite restaurant in Oak Cliff. You also get the added benefit of it being a hole in a wall so you impress anyone you take there're for the first time. If you're looking for the perfect, off of bishop arts but still close enough you can hang out there spot, this is it. Seriously, the decor is true, laidback vintage (not kitschy like newer restaurants), the staff will know your name quick, and the food is beyond comparison. It can get pricy, which is why I save it for special occasions but they have an incredible happy hour too if you just want drinks (and the drinks are top notch). Cannot recommend this enough, just be careful parking, the lot is small, go with the neighborhood street parking instead.

I can't emphasize how friendly the staff is! We are new to the neighborhood and they were so welcoming. Brought our dog a delicious looking mix of chicken and bacon! The food drinks and service were all exceptional. Can't wait to come back! They have an outdoor ACd patio that dogs can enjoy too. Really a great local vibey spot!

Amazing brunch spot, my mom and I go every now and then. We had the biscuits and gravy and the French Toast Casserole, both were very tasty. We also had mimosas, they had a good OJ to champagne ratio. The place is a little small so it was a little load, but there was live music when we were there. Our server was friendly and attentive.

Steak Oscar dish @ Nova with Autumn Haiku, dry red blend wine
    Donald C.

Cuisine Selection: I definitely recommend the Steak Oscar here. We have a monthly wine tasting (The Eclectic Society) event here. The fine selection of steak topped with crab was delicious. They also have many other great dishes here. Wine Pairing: This petite wet steak cuisine was moist, flavorful and moderately seasoned. The cuisine paired well with Autumn Haiku, a TX/CA dry red blend with mostly Petit Verdot. The moderate tannins went well with the medium well grilled steak. The service and ambience were also excellent, warm, professional, and personable. This restaurant continues with an eclectic approach from New and Old World features. I would encourage those new and old to Nova to try this dish. Dr. Chandler Certified Texas Wine Specialist Chandler Plaza, LLC

    Meatloaf special

Nova is a gem a mile away from the many overpriced and overrated restaurants in Bishop Arts. Don't be put off by the frequent bar crowd or the late night hours. This is place to drink and be merry and a place to eat good grub. Nick, the owner, is a great guy and will get behind the bar and serve customers. This is a regular spot for me and my wife. One time my wife ordered the Cajun shrimp and it was too hot for her. Nick was so apologetic. He got her new shrimp and gave us a free crème brûlée. For the price, I think the food is tasty and the portions generous. They also offer specials. Jump on the meatloaf if you get a chance.

I wished I had gone to this place 5 years ago when it was highly recommended! Scottish owner is amazing unlike any hospitality you will ever experience in Dallas. Not only that but I ordered the Italian special and hands down it was the best home made pasta and seafood I have ever had in Dallas. Very busy on a Sunday night which does not surprise me! I will be telling everyone and coming back for more as soon as I can. Thank you so much it was what my mental health needed this evening! These pics do not do the food justice!

Location Just off Davis, downtown Oak Cliff Parking Street and side lot Atmosphere Upscale-linen table cloths, napkins Seating Tables, large bar, outside-deck Service Outstanding-no sooner did we order the food-poof-delivered. Very friendly. Showed us pictures of the specials on his phone! Love that! Menu Get the specials-so good!! We had the calamari-served with a side salad. Not the typical rings-tender and juicy. The salad dressing was light and tasty. A fellow customer had the grilled asparagus topped with sweet potatoes and large piece of meat. The Brussel sprouts were cooked with blue cheese and cranberries-tender, not mushy, generous blue cheese. We had the chocolate dessert that disappeared so fast! Creamy, light, and chocolaty! Perfect! Summary Local upscale dinner spot with great prices! Wide selections-awesome specials! The service is outstanding. Can't wait to return and explore more of the menu!

    Scottish Salmon Special
    Brenden K.

Can't say enough about this place. Growing up, my favorite kind of restaurant were diners. This place takes the simplicity and nostalgia of an old school diner and pairs it up with delicious upscale food at a great price. I've been here three times, now and have had the best experience each time. The servers are attentive and friendly. My drink is never empty. The bar makes an awesome dirty martini! And the best part is they're open late. Their appetizers are excellent. I've had the hummus, smoked salmon potato skins, and the watermelon burrata salad and it's all delicious. For entrees I've had the chicken fried pork loin, the beef Wellington, a pizza, and the latest (pictured below) was the Scottish salmon special. It was one of the best salmon dishes I've ever had. And lastly, I've never had a bad dessert here, between the crème brûlée and the peach crumble. Make sure you save room for dessert. I can't say enough good things about this place. Make sure you give it a try!

Excellent neighborhood spot with great food..

Thanks to the reservation, we were seated right away and immediately greeted by our server, who was honestly amazing from start to finish. She was friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel effortless. We kicked things off with drinks. I started with an espresso martini, and it was really, really good--smooth, balanced, and exactly what I was hoping for. For my second drink, I tried the smoked Old Fashioned from their holiday menu. It was good, but I'll be honest, it was extremely strong. Like, really strong. In general, their drinks definitely pack a punch, so that's something to keep in mind when ordering. For my entrée, I ordered the Mediterranean smoked chicken salad, and wow. It was hands down one of the best salads I've ever had in my life. Everything was perfectly balanced, flavorful, and satisfying, and it didn't feel like a "boring" salad at all. It was so good that I already know I'll be coming back specifically for that dish, though I'm also curious to try more of the menu next time. Overall, this place absolutely lived up to the recommendation. Great service, strong drinks, and standout food. I'll definitely be back.

The layout feels open and comfortable, and the overall vibe is upbeat without being overwhelming. That said, service on arrival could use some attention. There was a noticeable gap at the host stand with several guests waiting and no staff in sight, which set a slightly off first impression. Once seated, though, the experience improved. Ally at the bar stood out right away. Friendly, attentive, and welcoming, she helped turn the visit around and made the experience feel more personal. She did come back to check in later, which was appreciated and helped round out the service. On the food and drink side, they carry Manhattan Project Beer Company's Half-Life, which is a big win and pairs exceptionally well with the French dip. The sandwich itself is flavorful and satisfying. The fries were a bit on the softer side, so if you prefer them crispy, I'd definitely recommend asking for them extra crispy when ordering. Overall, Thirsty Lion has a lot going for it. Great atmosphere, solid menu, and standout staff like Ally. With a little more consistency at the front of house, this place easily moves from good to great.

We had a reservation, which is recommended because the restaurant was very busy on a Saturday night in May. We opted to sit on the patio because the weather was gorgeous. I am not sure if the patio is climate controlled in the summer or not. But on that night we were there, the weather was mild so it was very pleasant. They have happy hour on Saturdays so I started with an IPA on tap and the wife had a Prosecco, also for happy hour prices. This is a tapas restaurant so I will try to remember all that we had. Manchego cheese board: excellent. The crisps and jam were perfect with the cheese. Potato torilla: excellent. The flavors melded very well and it was very tasty. It's filling so keep that in mind. Ceviche de jalapeno: excellent. Not too spicy, the shrimp and seafood was fresh with no fishy smell. The plantains were cooked perfectly, not greasy. Brisket on crostini: excellent. Forget the name but they are a winner. Brisket is good quality and the flavors come together nicely. Chicken skewer: excellent. They smartly use chicken thighs so the meat is juicy and tender. Tuna tartare: good. It actually was my least favorite. The quality was very good but it did not have much flavor. I needed some heat, some acid, something to give it a kick. We were absolutely stuffed and did not try dessert. Our server Marcellus was excellent. Very helpful and pleasant throughout. He never disappeared for too long. Overall, we had a great meal and will undoubtedly return here again.

And what…read morefollowed was a core memory in three courses and a complimentary Bloody Mary shot accompanied by the cutest green olive. The moment we walked in, it felt like home, but not in the "kick off your shoes" way. No, this was the "you're safe here, baby" kind of home. The vibe? Cozy. Elevated. Like Restoration Hardware met someone emotionally stable. Elliott was our server and an absolute delight. Joseph was the manager, casually spreading joy like Oprah with a tray of Bloody Mary shots. Amber... now let me pause here, because this woman deserves a paragraph of her own. Amber isn't just a GM. She's the kind of soul you meet once and never forget. When I asked for her to come to our table just to pay her a compliment, we both practically teared up. She received it with open arms, no ego, no deflection, just pure, gracious presence. I was mid-sentence and suddenly I had that Creed song stuck in my head. You know the one. "With arms wide open..." That's the kind of energy she brought to the entire restaurant. Amber made every person in that room feel like they mattered. Not because it's her job, but because it's who she is. She's fresh off earning her master's in hospitality, and if that degree came with a crown, she's wearing it. The Porch doesn't just run smoothly. It runs on Amber energy. But let's talk about the moment I saw God. Cornbread Eggs Benedict: Not crab. Not salmon. Corn. Bread. And not just any cornbread. The softest, fluffiest, most cuttable cloud of golden glory I've ever had the pleasure of annihilating with a fork. A fork, not a steak knife. Do you understand how rare that is? Normally I'm out here sawing through an English muffin like I'm in a lumberjack competition. This? Melted like butter. Tasted like a hug. 12/10. Incredible. And then, as if the eggs benny enlightenment wasn't enough, Joseph reappears with a tray of free Bloody Mary shots for the entire restaurant. With olives. For everyone. The joy? Immediate. The energy? Electric. The crowd? Unified. I watched a grandmother at the next table raise her glass like the queen she is. I nearly cried. This wasn't service. This was a masterclass in human connection. Restaurants can be transactional. Robotic. This was the opposite. This was care, intention, soul. My high school principal once said: "The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little bit of extra." The Porch brought extra, bagged it, garnished it, and served it on a tray. Final thought: If you're not brunching here, I'm concerned. If you are? I'll raise my Bloody Mary shot to you. And Amber, if you ever run for mayor, you've already got my vote. I'll run your campaign and show up in a custom t-shirt.
