Disclaimer: I am only reviewing the donkey roll dessert We had the donkey roll for dessert the first time we went to brass ram for dinner. During dinner, we realized we were not prime rib people (I'll stick to my ribeyes). Thus, I would've expected my first time at brass ram to be my last - HOWEVER, we had the good fortune of trying their donkey roll for dessert. And boy oh boy, am I glad we did. Their donkey roll is undeniably one of my favorite desserts in Dallas. I think I've visited brass ram 3 times since my first experience with the sole purpose of just having their dessert! I would've came more if they didn't close at 10 P.M. I do want it to be known though: Brass Ram has said that as long as you're in before 10, they will happily serve you their dessert. As for the dessert: the donkey roll is essentially money bread over chopped apple pieces, topped with rum raisin ice cream, salted caramel sauce and mocha almonds. Visited Brass Ram before catching an Alvin Ailey show and it ended up being a great pre-performance stop. Overall a solid experience that I'd happily return to. THE FOOD: We started with the rock shrimp casino, which had good texture but lacked a little depth, a touch more salt would have really brought it to life. The crudo royale was decent; the lobster and shrimp were fresh, though the sauce slightly overpowered the seafood. The standout of the starters was the mushrooms, absolutely amazing and perfectly balanced. We also ordered the Caesar salad (with extra anchovies on the side, just as requested, which made me very happy). The dressing was good but could use a little more garlic, anchovy punch, and maybe a small kick from a bit of Dijon mustard. Now the star: the prime rib. Surprisingly salted to perfection and honestly the best prime rib I've had in Dallas. THE SERVICE: Top notch. Attentive without hovering, and everything arrived at a comfortable pace, perfect timing before heading to the show. THE VIBE: The restaurant gives strong Boston steakhouse vibes; classic, polished, and a great place to start a night out. Our dear friends took us to this place after a long day. Perfect place to have a great meal with classy style. Our hosts & server were amazing and hospitable. Depending on what you order, it's enough to share. 4 adults shared the Pop's Chop medium rare. Perfectly cooked steak served cut on the plate. Served with au jus sauce and horse radish along with their special sauce. We ordered Mac & Cheese and mushrooms as our sides. Both were complimentary to the steak. Mac & cheese had a slight tang from the Parmesan cheese which took it to another level. We also had the special lobster with stuff crab drizzled with butter sauce over garlic mashed potatoes. Tried several things on the menu. 1836 is their take on an old fashioned, which is supposed to have Dr Pepper in it but I couldn't really taste it, still really good tho. Left Foot Special is basically a margarita but the midori gives it an interesting after taste. Wine by the glass selection seems ok, but ask to try them first. I don't think we actually got what was on the menu (according to the check). The burger was AMAZING! By far favorite part of the dinner. The seafood special was good, swordfish, but felt a little dry. My friend got the prime rib and she said it was really good but not sure she'd order it again. I can't vouch as I don't like prime rib, but my mom loves it so I'll take her to try! Get the onion rings on the side! I went here for my birthday The main event was for the prime rib, but I think the best bite that we had was the appetizer with the thinly sliced New York strip and Ponzo sauce. The prime rib was really good but the horseradish sauce that it came with made it very delicious. The mac & cheese was very creamy and tasted very good. I love the steakhouse vibes going on sat in a very comfy booth and the service was great. My wife's fish that she got was not her favorite. She thought it was a little dry. Brass Ram has such a rustic yet opulent vibe! We chose to valet the car as we heard that the self park options weren't so good, but the lot next to the building seemed to have plenty of spots? It's $7 but there's a $1.75 convenience fee. However, it's nice that you can call for your car before you leave. The restaurant is on the second floor, and the hostesses are so friendly, they opened the door for us and were so understanding about us being a little late (valet was parking another car). We got a nice wide booth that could easily fit 4 (maybe even 6) people. Our waiter was super knowledgeable and guided us on the nightly specials and kept in mind my allergies. He recommended the pop's cut for prime rib which is super shareable amongst 2, maybe even 3 people. We ordered 2 sides as he recommended as well because the portion sizes were just right for us two. We also ordered the carpaccio app which was amazing and so delicious. We didn't end up finishing all of the prime rib, and we got extra au jus to take home with us! As it was mid week, had no issue getting street parking, and made our way upstairs to the swanky, cool dining room where we were greeted by two friendly hostesses. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a leisurely meal, and the bartender was great at offering her suggestions for our meal. We had amazing oysters, a standout steak and baked potato side dish to die for (a visual as well as culinary masterpiece!!). Drink menu is phenomenal. We asked both Mitsy and Steve and they guided us to some starting cocktails, one being off menu. Their 1836 and a Gin Gimlet. Both were so good. Their whiskey list is quite extensive, so highly recommend if you enjoy good bourbon, rye or other. Appetizers were incredible. We tried a little of everything. Onion rings were perfect. The seafood sushi combo was insanely good. Wagu wrapped pigs in a blanket perfect. Moving on to the mains. We had the fish of the day which was halibut. Very good. Defiantly go for the prime rib. From the moment we took the elevator up, I enjoyed the vibes. The host was welcoming when we arrived and chatted as we walked to our seats. I was blown away by this restaurant. This restaurant has been on my list of restaurants to try for a few months now. And I finally got to try it for a friends birthday. We made reservations a couple days in advance, and even then there were limited slots available. we came in a little early to have a couple of drinks at the bar. When our table was ready, we were guided there by a friendly and attentive host. The highlight of our visit, and my favorite was the prime rib. It's cooked perfectly. A lot of other places will overcook a prime rib, but not the brass ram au jus and horseradish cream sauce was phenomenal the Yorkshire pudding paired perfectly with the prime rib. And the prime rib basically melted in your mouth. We had the espresso, chocolate mousse and carrot cake for dessert. Even shared amongst four people, it was way too much. I went with one of my lawyer friends last night and had an incredible evening. I read a lot of reviews before going and some of it really helped! I appreciate y'alls photos of the nondescript door downstairs that was the entrance. Someone also mentioned it was very cold inside and they were right! I'm glad I threw on a blazer. We came about an hour early for our Saturday reservation, and they were unable to seat us, which was fair. We had a drink at the bar and caught up on life. I didn't care for the Daiquiri, but his Sling was amazing. I ordered that one next. We got oysters for the appetizer. He had some wine. I ordered the bone marrow au gratin as an appetizer. It was good but takes seconds to consume. The prime rib was good, but the accompanying sauces made it sing. I got the thinnest, smallest portion but still was only able to consume half. The yorkshire pudding was generously portioned. I noticed he ate all of his scallops and said they were amazing. I'm glad y'all mentioned desserts because it's not apparent on the menu. I got the Paloma Cheesecake because I couldn't recall any negative reviews on it. GUYS! IT WAS AMAZING! Definitely the food star of the show. My friend was only planning on one bite, but completely finished his portion. And it was generously sized to share. It was thoughtfully crafted and had a beautiful, luscious texture. I've never had cheesecake with oranges and grapefruit on it before. It was not cloyingly sweet. Every bite was amazing, from the crust to the fruit. It was not heavy and didn't sit in my stomach like a rock. We couldn't shut up about it all the way after. Great meal for what it is. Spectacular service. One of the best meals I've had recently. My family had just relocated to DFW, I had a hankering for prime rib, and so upon a google search Brass Ram was one of the first to pop up. Upon reading good things, my wife and I scheduled a date night. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu; overall, the service was really superb. We ordered the French Onion Soup, Iceberg "Chunk" Salad (wedge salad); I had the American Cut Prime Rib with a side of creamed spinach, while my wife ordered the NY Steak Frites. The soup and the salad were fantastic, while the Prime Rib was a perfect medium rare, accompanied by au jus and horseradish cream, PLUS a yorkshire pudding (made, I assume, using the drippings of the prime rib yum yum). Taste was everything you'd want out of a prime rib--succulent, well-seasoned yet only with salt and pepper (nothing else to distract from the meat itself), medium rare throughout the entire cut. The creamed spinach was a hearty, very rich side--probably the best creamed spinach I've had, plus it was definitely sharable for at least two people. My wife loved her NY Steak Frites, saying it was the best steak dish she's had at a steak restaurant (or any restaurant, for that matter). Overall, a great place for a specific occasion and/or if you love prime rib. Will come again! read more

Brass Ram is like a speakeasy-like experience with a Mad Men vibe. You reach it through another restaurant. While it was cool, there were a few things that weren't the best. The music was very loud and the air conditioning was cranked up high. I wished I had brought a sweater with me - in Texas. Our waiter was great. He was friendly and helpful and explained the menu and recommended cocktails. The Old Fashioned cocktails we ordered were both great. We decided to split a small Caesar salad, but the large size arrived. Our waiter assured us that we wouldn't be charged for the large size. The salad was fresh, and the croutons were perfectly crunchy. The addition of smoked trout roe was a nice bonus. However, I found the salad to be over-dressed, while my SO thought it was just right. For the main course, I ordered Karl's Crab Cakes. While they were packed with crab meat, I was disappointed to find several small pieces of shell and cartilage. I ended up eating them carefully to make sure I didn't crunch down on more shells. The sauce was a bit overpowering, covering the flavor of the crab cakes. I ended up scraping most of it away. I recommend ordering it on the side. My SO, on the other hand, ordered the American cut of their Prime Rib. The prime rib was incredibly tender, and from what I'm told, it "melted in his mouth". Even days later, he is still raving about it and saying it was the best prime rib he's ever had. As for the sides, there was a mix-up when our main courses were served. Instead of the steak fries we ordered, mushrooms arrived at our table. We were more than halfway through our entree when our fries were brought to us, which wasn't great. The fries were cooked to perfection. The Mac de Blanc (Mac and cheese) I ordered was easily one of the best I've ever ordered. Amazing. 1 Star. Food - If you're a fan of burgers, order "A burger like I had in Paris that one time a while ago". Yes, that's the name of the burger. We ordered it and asked for it to be cut for sharing, and the staff brought out an expertly quartered burger. The beef was thick and juicy and had me longing for those burgers like I had at Off Site Kitchen many times a while ago. A visit to Brass Ram should include Prime Rib. You can have it cut multiple ways, and we ordered American style and shared it family style. Tender, tasty, delicious, but pricey. Also, I want to reserve a shout out to the bar tender. I ordered an after dinner drink, a Carajillo over ice, and it was the best Carajillo I've had in Dallas. The drink is poured over a solid cube of ice. Amazing. 1 1/2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes, but only after I save my pennies. Brass Ram is amazing, but it's also very pricy. No doubt I will be back, but it's best to go for special occasions only. 1/2 Star. No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. I have found another favorite restaurant to add to my growing list. We have been wanting to get to the Brass Ram, which is located in downtown Dallas at a distance from our home and work, but we finally made it, and were very happy we did. Of course, this is one of Nick Badovinus upscale eateries, which include Neighborhood Services, National Anthem, Montlake Cut and Town Hearth, all excellent restaurants in their own right. All have great food and fun atmospheres, but this ranks up there with his best! To begin with, the interior design including art work was fun. Although I'm not a big Jazz fan, the music remained in the background, not drowning out conversation and there was none of pounding techno, thank goodness. I think that this atmosphere helps servers and the customer with the important interaction about the menu and off menu items, allowing the choice the food that best matches one's taste. However, all the food on the menus that we ordered, was wonderfully prepared, often unique, and very, very pleasing to our taste. For starters, the Crudo Royale, a wonderfully spice cold combo of shellfish, lobster, and crab, should not be missed. The ' Wagyu pigs in a blanket ' are a great tasty take on a time tested dish. There were many more, some Nick Standards, filling up the rest of the starters and looked good, but we can only eat so much. We did have a Caesar salad for the table which was perfect. Next Course, The Mains, that we ate were the Prime Rib and Crispy Fish. The Prime rib, cooked to preference, was delicious and ultimately addicting; 4 different sizes and cuts to choose from. It came with a large popover which was just right except that I would recommend a little more salt in the popover mix. The Crispy Fish was perfectly cooked and very savory as well. We had left-overs of both to take home for a second experience. The sides of a large baked potato, cut up for sharing, and creamed mashed potatoes, were definitely up the Nick's standards. We also had enough left to take home. Finally for dessert, a large slice of delicious Tiramisu done well (took some of it home as well). Look, I'm admittedly a Nick B. Fan. The service and food at all of his restaurants are impeccable. However, The Brass Ram sits at near or at the top, notwithstanding Montlake Cut or Town Hearth. I've been wanting to try Brass Ram for a little while now. It is in an interesting location with a speakeasy vibe. It has a cool ambience and the food was delicious! We were here for a work dinner, and shared the dishes family style. Parking is not the easiest considering it is Dallas. However, there is Valet parking for $5. We ordered several apps including the rock shrimp, pigs in a blanket, meatballs, and burgers. The "burger i had once in paris" is a must try. It is the best burger I've had in a while - perfectly cooked and well-seasoned. The Prime Rib American style was so tender and delicious. I will say I was a little bummed though because I asked for my leftovers to be packed up, and it was inadvertently thrown away. Overall, it is quite pricy, but the food is delicious. Must have been an off night... We had a business dinner here on a Thursday night. We got there early around 5:30 and it was pretty empty, as expected. Service was excellent. The server knew his stuff. He told us about the specials, and there were so many. I wish their menu had fewer cutsie things that aren't descriptive, and had a menu for all the daily specials. It was hard to to remember all the items they had (and how they were prepared and paired) plus read through the silly descriptions on the printed menu. "Scripted Fish" (WTF is that?), "bowl of fresh pasta" (help here?), "Lobster of the night" (again, what is it exactly?). It's annoying. They are known for their prime rib. The 2 other guys ordered that, and I ordered a red snapper that was apparently from New Zealand. We started with the crudo appetizer. It was outstanding. The ahi melted in your mouth and the other fish and items in it were so good, along with the sauce. When dinner came out, the guys with prime rib had a yorkshire pudding with it. Each of us agreed (I tried theirs) that these were overcooked, dry and very disappointing. They were not chewy and were clearly overbaked. They loved their prime rib, and my fish was good too. I think it's silly to import a red snapper from NZ when gulf snapper is going to be fresher and more local. The only thing odd about my dish was this finely shaved greens that was fluffed up on top. Honestly it looked like green pubes and didn't enhance any flavor. The dish was oversalted, both the fish and the sauce. For sides we ordered the mac and cheese as well as the mushrooms. Both were very good, however both were also over salted. For dessert we shared the donkey roll. The roll itself was again overcooked and dry. You needed a knife to cut it. The apples and the sauce around it were tasty, and loved the dollop of ice cream on top too. Overall we liked a lot of it, give it an A for service and decor. The menu is a turnoff as far as how they have listed their items poorly and have too many daily specials to just rattle off by a server. The baked goods were poor for the night we were there, and the heavy salt use disappointing. Unfortunately expectations are at the highest when charging premium prices for fine dining, and these misses are why it's not rated higher. read more

Make friends with the people around you. Savor in the golden thread of umami in every dish. The lovely diner next to me had the prime rib and claimed it the best. I claim my tenderloin the best yet. I claim that Gibson the best martini of all time. You don't know me and you don't have to believe me. But what if I'm right? I travel for work and always pick a local steakhouse and sit at the bar. Everything was delicious, and service was great. The decor is nice and ambiance was lovely. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around a $300 plus tip dinner where we had 2 drinks each and shared an appetizer, salad, entree (for 2) and a side. (And I think I kind of prefer Lawry's prime rib for a dinner half the price). So overall, it's good, it's bougie, we won't be back. read more

Had a great meal here recently. Went with a group of six to try more menu items. The rock shrimp casino, meatballs and surf n' turf were all great starters. 5 of us got the American cut prime rib. The other guy got the New York strip. We tried the bake potato (highly recommend), creamed spinach, mushrooms and creamed potato as sides. A couple of the guys ordered the crab cake to go with their prime rib and one ordered the bone marrow to accompany the prime rib. The Paloma cheesecake for dessert was excellent. The service was just ok. We were given the crudo royale appetizer by mistake, but still were charged for it at the end of the meal. We sat down around 730 and didn't finish the meal until after 10. With cocktails and a bottle of wine, our bill was over $1000. Not a place to go frequently, but definitely a place worth checking out. read more

Went to the Brass Ram to celebrate my wife's birthday. Very impressed with the space. The service is a little over the top, but perhaps that was just our server. The best dish of the night was the Crudo Royale - maybe our favorite crudo dish ever. Large serving of hamachi, tuna, shrimp king crab with just the right amount of avocado included with a tart citrus sauce. All the seafood was great with perfect texture and freshness and the accompaniments were on point. We then shared a meh Caesar Salad. Based on the description, I expected more punch. Not high on my Caesar salad rankings. On to the main courses. I ordered the American cut of prime rib. In my opinion, it was excellent. The bite I shared with my wife must have not been the best piece because she thought it was tough. Luckily it was my entree and not hers. She ordered an off the menu halibut dish that was dynamite. Seems like this "Steakhouse" really does seafood well. We had a side dish of creamed potatoes that were also excellent. The dish that probably knocked a star off the review was the truffled bucatini from the appetizer section. We ordered it as a side dish to our entrees. Just flat out not good. Very little truffle flavor, or flavor at all, and the texture of the noodles seemed like they were over cooked. We were pretty full at the time so it wasn't a real big deal, but a restaurant of the quality of Brass Ram shouldn't send out a dish that poorly executed. Small points off for recognizing we were there for my wife's birthday when we checked in, but not providing any birthday dessert. We were full, and not getting a free dessert is a "First World Problem" so we won't that against them. I'll give Brass Ram another try on a future trip to the Dallas area. read more

The burger and onion rings was ok but over priced $30 burger and $20 onion rings once cold not good.i had a lemon drop drink at bar before dinner excellent the bartender was wonderful..they offered special dis of the day that was a good choice and affordable price..we valet park no problems.not sure if I would return.
