By far one of the best bars I've been to and the drinks are cold and fresh! always got to love coming down to Deep E.!

My girlfriend, sister, and I came here to watch a friend perform out front. It's a hip little place, located in a very under-construction area of Deep Ellum, and the restaurant (bar?) is simple and clean. I appreciated that they had the options of taller tables, as i'm in a wheelchair with lift capabilities and standard tables are a bit low for me. Their bathrooms were clean and spacious enough. The interior was lit red, and it's to the point: tables and a bar, that's it. The front was kept open and my friend performed out front, with his performance cast to the interior TVs. I got the "Sexy Chicken", which was so hot that tears came out of my face. I like spicy, but holy cow, be careful ye of little spice tolerance. I ate it all and enjoyed it enough, and the salad was decent too. I was a little disappointed that some of the things I was looking forward to trying the most were not gluten-free so I had to stick with just the non-breaded chicken. I wouldn't mind-returning if the menu had a few more options, but if you aren't gluten-free the menu looked tasty and interesting. The staff were very friendly. read more

Do not be fooled by this dive bar appearance. By dive bar, I actually mean almost looking like a dive bar that hasn't been operating for years from the exterior. I say all of this as a good thing. It's a vibe. Seriously. The vibe is even better when you get your mouth on the goodness they are serving up. I don't know how they season the chicken tenders (battered and deep fired) but I can tell you this, those tenders are magic to the lips and tongue. WOO! Power-packed goodness. AND the most important part, the meat is tender (yep) and juicy! Not dried out or over cooked. Let's talk sides... Habanero bacon macaroni and cheese. OMG it is probably some of the best out there. It's got that southern-style bake to it that pops with the habanero and bacon. Just enough kick to make you wanting more. Talk about wanting more, the poblano mashed potatoes are INSANE, gang! It looks like a dive bar. Everything about it screams dive bar. The bar stools, tables, decor, even the lighting (or lack thereof) says dive bar. That's where it stops. The drinks are great, service is great too. But the fried chicken is up there with some of the best I've had in Dallas. The hot chicken is the perfect amount of heat & flavor without torching your taste buds. Don't sleep on the sides either. We went with the Mac & cheese & the Mexican corn, which were both much better than expected. Fried chicken is delicious here. A tiny bit sweet, a lovely bit salty, with a very crisp, delectable skin. The dark meat is nice and moist. The gent enjoyed the chicken sandwich which was a sizable number, could easily feed two normal people, but he's a monster who consumed it all on his own. We also tried the chicken tenders (because he was still hungry!), but recommend skipping those as they were surprisingly very dry and bland. Food took a while to come out and when it was served it was lukewarm seem to be short staff for a Saturday evening Server was very friendly but stretched between the inside and the outdoor area. This actually really makes me very upset to write. As you can see by my previous review, I have been coming here for years, supported them through COVID, celebrated bdays here, brought in countless friends, but no more. I came in yesterday with 4 friends. Food was great and we enjoyed our time like usual. When we went to pay, the "WiFi was down" so the waitress could not split checks. Fine if that was truly the case, also fine if you just don't want to split checks - we were happy to settle it among ourselves. So I paid, tipped and we left. This morning as I am trying to split the check to figure out what everyone owes, I keep coming up ~$50 short of what the total was. This is when I notice the subtotal vs check total line. An 18% gratuity was added (which is fine) - but the server did not indicate that, nor is it clear from the receipt that gratuity was added. I am 6 months pregnant (and therefore was very sober) and even the gratuity being added was not clear to me at the time. Being in the location this is, this feels very icky, deceitful and like a terrible business practice and like they are taking advantage of (probably drunk) patrons. We tipped this girl an additional $38 on top of the $40 she had already given herself, and in hindsight, is probably why she didn't want to split checks, especially knowing this must be overlooked often. To top it all off, they added an $8 credit card fee, which is INSANE. I am so upset and disappointed because we loved coming here but this just feels ICKY and wrong. The chicken had more spice than I would of liked but was very crunchy. I would of liked my choice of just legs but I didn't even ask if it was an option. So we made a stop on the walk back to her spot at Brick N Bones. Yesssss, pls! The chicken was gooood.
