Some of the best chicken I've ever had. The seasoning was ON POINT! I wasn't expecting such amazing flavor, like really! What made it even better was that it was naked chicken, no batter, nothing fried, but the chicken skin was super crispy and moist at the same time. I mean I don't even think I left anything on the bone, not even embarrassed to say that LoL I'm not big on spicy food, so I couldn't handle the green salsa verde sauce on the side, but I'm sure for the hot lovers, you'll love it. Not I. I think I got broccolini on the side, it came with I believe those were grilled sauteed scallions on the side, whatever it was, flavor on 1000 as well. I killed it. My friend got the chicken and waffles and the way he was killing it, I'm going to say it was good to him. Definitely not disappointed. It looked super rich - hot, melted, butter and maple syrup on top. Can't go wrong with that at all. The only thing that was annoying, the night we went, it was a Sunday, the live performer was SO LOUD. We couldn't even hear ourselves talk. I kid you not. It was BAD, I mean obnoxiously bad. Placed a pickup order and generally feel like I overpaid/the choices here are over priced. I went with the sexy chicken and it was good, but no where near mind blowing, especially considering it only comes with a small side salad. Was even more disappointed with our order of mashed potatoes - $7 for what definitely wouldn't be considered enough to even be a side for one of the entrees. I really enjoy Brick & Bones food AND drinks, specifically their specialty cocktails. Their fried chicken is known around Dallas and it's extra impressive to me that it comes from a bar that's good enough not to need a food menu to bring in business. But I'm glad they do bc it's SO GOOD. And affordable. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is bc they used to have a grilled chicken (or a not fried chicken option) on the menu that was AH-MAY-ZING but they no longer do. Fried foods often make me sick so while I can have a bite here and there, everything on the food menu nowadays is fried. But still a great place, even if you're not planning to eat! The food is 3 stars for me. It's definitely not for everybody. They have more of a Mexican style flavored menu. I've been twice and I will say this the service is quick and friendly and the ambiance is more of a duck off spot for dates or a meetup. I get the chicken tenders since that's the only white meat they serve besides the chicken sandwich. The Mac was pretty good and the corn was definitely different but tasty. Drinks are a tad pricey but that's deep ellum. I didn't like the mashed potatoes they were cold and no so tasty. read more

Chicken tenders were amazingly crispy outside yet very tender inside and they got decent varieties of beers. I enjoyed my choice of Texas project- amber. This place is absolutely amazing. This was our first time and it was worth it. Chicken is amazing as well as the sides. Our server was fantastic and helped us with the menu items. We stopped in yesterday for brunch - so glad we did. Bailey took great care of us at the bar. We started with a margarita for me, a bloody mary for him. Both were delicious. We split three pieces of fried chicken and the potato hash. Chicken was cooked perfectly and so flavorful!! The hot sauce we could add to it was fantastic as well - not too overwhelming, just wonderfully enhancing. The potato hash was delicious too, so well seasoned and cooked to perfection! Forgot to take photos! We then had a Huckleberry Hound and another drink I can't remember the name of, but I think it was something Pooch. All our drinks we spot on!! First off, you have to be mildly insane to go to Deep Ellum at night. Tourists sometime don't know this but they should do some research in advance (and not via google). In any event, I met one of the chefs at another restaurant and he sold me on trying the spot out. So I did. (He seems like a very good guy btw) People really like the food here as written up in other reviews. So I may have just been here on a bad night (or perhaps they just never had fried chicken before lol) but the chicken tasted like it had been sitting around half cooked and then was sort of reheated or re-fried (yet the chicken was not really hot). The skin was not really attached either. But it was all extremely oily and tasted "old" if you know what I mean. Sides were more or less gross except for the mashed potatoes as the gravy is actually excellent. Potatoes themselves taste as if they're made from a powder. Staff are very nice / friendly but that doesn't save this experience. As others have noted--price is extremely high in comparison to portion size--like LA x Hong Kong pricing. So be aware of that but if the food was killer, I would not have cared. Odd though that there reviews are all 5-stars or 1-2. Not a lot of middle ground here. read more

My friend and I wanted to get out of the house for a little bit. So we decided to hit up Deep Ellum for something to eat. I looked at a couple of places and decided on Brick & Bones. if you're walking on Elm St. you could easily pass it up. We walked in and was greeted by the bartender who stated sit anywhere that you like. I will admit the place is dimly light, but I guess that adds to the bar/dive feel. Our waitress who was extremely bubbly asked if we would like to start with drinks. I decided on the Punky Brewster and it was okay. It was really nothing to write home about. Plus, it's a $10 drink that is blah. Luckily, drinks do not determine if the food is going to be any good. Anyway, I ordered the naked chicken served with corn tortillas and the mexican corn. I am so glad that I went with these choices. The chicken was so good. My goodness! The seasoning was savory with a hit of spice. I pulled the chicken off the bone added it to the corn toritllas with the my mexican corn, cilantro and lime. DIVINE. The mexican corn by itself is great but mixed up in a corn toritllas is even better. I had great time eating and would recommend Brick & Bones to anyone hanging out in Deep Ellum. read more

I rarely give negative reviews but there is no way that this place could've ever earned that many stars. This place is only open for eight hours. They purposely advertise late night which means the food should be just as fresh at 6 PM or 2 AM. However, Out of the three things I ordered the Mac and habanero, the green beans and fried chicken... Almost all of it is inedible. I'm not being picky I'll just be straightforward - I threw it out because it could not have been more disgusting. The chicken was cold, over over breaded to the point that there wasn't even chicken inside some of the pieces they sent and the chicken that was present, was of such poor quality. You know - the type that has that slight cheap games smell. The macaroni had as much much flavor their freezer or refrigerator because not only did not have any flavor but when it did taste like was licking the inside of the refrigerator with all kinds of foods. The green beans which almost made it... If it weren't for the fact that they had a kind of greasy liquid including two tablespoons of salt all of it was awful. First off, great chicken. This cannot be debated. Great chicken. But also really, really kind management. My wife and I accidentally left some artwork at our table. Since we don't live in the area, we were certain we had lost it for good. Management was kind enough to find it and mail it to us. They even sprung for the nicer packaging to make sure it wouldn't get bent in transit. They went totally above and beyond for us. Super, super cool of them. Brick & Bones has been on my list for awhile. I was headed to Sik-K's show at Canton Hall & decided to grab a bite before. I chose Brick & Bones since it was kind of closer to the venue and "looked" the most delicious. Brick & Bones was a little grungy-er than what I'm used to (I'm sure most of Deep Ellum is..) I ordered the Chimi Chicken Sandwich (Chimi on the side of course) and it came out pretty quickly since I was there close to when they opened at 6pm. It wasn't that great though. Yes I ate it dry but it was really dry and tasteless except for the tiny hint of spiciness I discovered once I got to the middle of the sandwich. And it only came with those wheel Mexican chips (without Valentina) that the local Paletero Man sells out his cart. I had to douse the sandwich in salt just for me to get through it. The meat to bread ratio was terrible; way too much bread! And man was I dying for some fries It didn't dawn on me that this was some type of Mexican/Soul Food fusion. Next time I need to do a little more research and keep my restaurant expectations at a minimum. I hope Deep Ellum can redeem itself later this week when I'm attending and another show at Canton Hall. read more
