It's so hard to review this place because if the food and service wouldn't have been as good as it was, it would be getting 3 stars instead. The moment we walked in, a sewer smell hit all of us. The birthday girl really wanted sushi and was super hungry so we weren't going to let the smell ruin her day. We were a big group and the place was surprisingly empty. Only 2 or 3 other tables were occupied that we could see. I tried to tell the waitress how I wanted to pay for 3 of us (since I knew just us 3 were going to order at least half of what will be charged on the bill) and she said the bottom of menu stated no split checks, it doesn't, and I didn't want to go back and forth so I just accepted it. The bottom of the menu states parties of 6 or more will get 18% gratuity added automatically (as you can see on the picture attached) Not a big deal. She was still super nice with us all and quickly took our order. She brought out our drinks right away and the appetizers came soon after. Her and another waiter were super attentive the whole time and everyone liked what they ordered. The sushi was very good and their garlic ramen was one of the top ones I have tasted. It was hard getting used to the smell inside and we noticed they had several essential oil diffusers on around the restaurant but they weren't helping because the sewer smell was very overpowering. We understand that it might not be them and probably the building above them. I would love to come back another day where I can completely enjoy the place but I do very much recommend the food here. read more

We went last night for our annual first date anniversary. As always the food was incredible. I missed the picture of the hamachi collar as it was gone before I could remember. One of our must dishes each time we go. The rolls are always on point and this time we tried the ramen which was terrific on a chilly night. Mom and I enjoyed a quiet Wednesday lunch at Nori. It started with a pleasant surprise with the unique presentation of gyoza. Veggie tempura is a go-to for me and it was a good portion with a nice variety. Although it wasn't as flavorful as it looked, I still enjoyed the spicy tuna crispy rice app that i ate as a main meal. The winner, though, was mom's $20 lunch special bento. It included miso soup, salad, Cucumber salad, a tuna roll, gyoza, and nigiri. It was filling for a great price. Also, we could have eaten a huge bowl of the Cucumber salad! It was delicious! Although we didn't have any cocktails, the menu looked intriguing as well. Service was great and helpful. We just weren't blown away. Wished everything had more flavor. But, to be fair, we don't always eat at the highest quality sushi restaurants so are used to more sauces. We went for a quick lunch on Wednesday afternoon, this restaurant is located in the corner of high street. The ambience is intimate and upscale, it is a great place for date night or just a romantic dinner. However we sat outside for lunch, their lunch menu is pretty great but the prices are on the higher end. I went with sushi combo and it came with miso soup, salad, sushi, sashimi and more. Everything tasted fantastic, fresh and really refreshing. The fried dumpling was a little salty for me, the sushi was good but not the best. Overall a good place and had a good lunch. The fish here at Nori is so fresh! I popped in for a small lunch and ordered the sashimi lunch platter which consists of tuna , yellow fish, salmon , and white fish. I paired it with a cold glass of Sapporo and it was the perfect light meal on a sunny afternoon. Perusing the menu, I came upon the garlic bomber rice (not pictured) and I just had to try it. The combination of bacon, fish cake, Serrano pepper, eggs, and onion was perfect. Surprisingly not oily at all. It just left me wanting more. I clearly could not finish it so I had it to go. Since I was seated at the bar, the bartender was also my waiter and he was very knowledgeable of the menu. I could tell he had a great relationship with the regular customers because he even remembered their orders ! We had to ask another server for wasabi and soy sauce. Other tables in our section were also out of water, so that's why it was prob his first day. I like the vibes of the place. Decor was cute. Hostess was nice. The restrooms were clean. Food was pretty good. The big eye diver was really good. I love spicy scallop rolls so this was like an improved version of it. They don't put tons of rice with it, they put enough to maximize the flavors. 10/10 would eat it again. The lollipop roll had adorable presentation. No rice in case you're watching carbs. Very fresh and perfect for hot summer days or any day for that matter. Yassss. This isn't the only place I've had it or seen it, but it's still very good. Spicy tuna. Convenient, intimate, solid. Especially in an area with so much good sushi, I would not say I was blown away by the food. A friend and I split a spicy yellowtail roll, a rainbow roll, and an entree. Each unique bite of the rainbow roll was tremendous, but the other two dishes weren't as exciting, especially considering their prices. The orders' relative mediocrity provided an opportunity to ask myself why I still enjoyed this experience so much. In addition to amazing company ;) they were open until 11 that night - much later than most restaurants of this caliber. When we got there, the friendly host sat us immediately and quickly had a server take our orders. The dishes came out one at a time, so right as we were finishing one, the next part of the meal arrived at the table. The restaurant itself is beautiful. I have been here twice for lunch and plan to return again. I will say this last time the service was slow but the server said it was his first week. My first visit here, the service was super quick. I enjoyed the beef lunch special and the chicken teriyaki too but the beef was my favorite, I highly recommend. The chicken was not cut up thinly enough so it felt tough and dry. The miso soup was perfect and the cucumber sunomono was authentic. The salad dressing was also something I was impressed with as it was light and not overpowering. I have not tried the sushi yet but intend to next time. I would highly recommend to anyone who likes Japanese food. read more

Rolls are tasty, execution is inconsistent, servers are really rushed. Nice venue/ambiance but with the inconsistent execution, hard to classify this as fine dining. Got the Chilean sea bass, yakiudon, yellowtail Serrano (cold dish), and double dragon roll. $100 for two people to be partially full. Servers seemed rushed though the restaurant was at 1/3 total table capacity. Our main server/waitress, Felicita, was rushing to fill waters so she had her fingers over the rim of the glasses, gross. Asked for a straw and the next time she quickly grabbed the glass with the straw that was under my mouth so it scratched against my lip. No damage but the focus seemed to be on water refill than the customer. Second server that delivered the yellowtail Serrano dish brought it so that the yuzu sauce had splashed on the sides. Tasty dish with fresh yellowtail and nice sauce and Serrano pepper, but presentation likely changed. Chilean sea bass - couldn't really taste any marinade (sake marinade?). Also, cooked a touch too long as the fish was gummy in some parts and doesn't really melt in the mouth with prior Chilean sea basses I've eaten. The fish itself is tasty and soft, but had minimal additional flavor, just the touch of salt and pepper on top. There were sides of pickled cucumbers and a purple looking green onion. Yakiudon sauce flavor was good but too watery so that the top noodles were dry and the bottom was a mini soup. Chicken was pretty dry. Cute restaurant, food was good, but service was a nightmare. The server was so rude, made everyone feel uncomfortable whenever we would ask her for something. She forgot a part of my food and I didn't get it until my entire table was literally done eating and we had been there for over an hour and a half. It was like pulling teeth when it came to anything. She made faces when we would order anything, it was very confusing. We only got one round of refills on the water. Just for this I would never spend my money here again. Our most recent experience was poor. First the restaurant smelled like sewage and our waiter confirmed that the odor was indeed that. We were taken to a table close to the restrooms where the odor seemed the strongest. Something that we were told was because of the restaurant's location and its connection to the sewer system. We asked to move to the other side of the floor nearest the bar and as it was largely empty so we moved. Service throughout was good, but the odor lingered though it was far less severe. None the less it dampened our appetites and we frankly were about to leave but were convinced to stay. The Sushi ordered was ok, fresh ingredients but nothing notable. We quickly ate a few bites and exited. We agreed that we will not revisit this place until we know the problem with the waste water is corrected. My husband and I were visiting the area and really craved for some sushi. First of all, I feel like this place is underrated and hidden in a spot not many people go to (surprisingly). This place is beautiful inside and quite big, but thought it was really weird that it wasn't busy. Maybe this might be a spot to go to more at night? Not sure. The staff here were also great and very attentive so that's already a plus. Sushi, I'd like to say is a little more expensive than anticipated but I guess their flavors and combinations are fairly unique and the taste didn't really disappoint. I also love the fact that they have cocktails, which you typically can't get in other sushi restaurants (comparing this to the sushi I usually get in the Bay Area). A few rolls my husband and I got that we shared on: Sakana Trio - I think this was my least favorite out of all the rolls. I was surprised to have it with citrus popping boba because I usually get those on my boba drinks. I thought it was really unique to have it with sushi as it added more "of an experience (LOL)" to the fresh fish but the overall roll started to taste a little bit medicinal. Hahaha. Baked Lobster Tempura - This was my absolute favorite, not going to lie. I was really hesitant about getting this roll because I was afraid they'd cheap out on the lobster or cut it into little pieces but I was wrong! You can fully taste the lobster on this roll and it felt really rich. So if you decide to get this roll, make sure you pair it up with a raw fish-type of roll. Big Eye Diver - I enjoyed this roll as I thought it was quite refreshing with the cilantro, raw fish and jalapeno combo. This helped break down the heaviness of the baked lobster tempura and would love to have a pair of them two again in the future. read more

I've come here specially for happy hour numerous times and today finally got my mom to join me after making her listen to me talk about how good it is. We sit down at 3:30 on a Monday, and start ordering off happy hour, for the server to tell us they discontinued happy hour three days ago. Funny enough, they had a sign advertising happy hour standing right outside of their door? So either we were lied to or literally no one there knows what's going on. We also asked for recommendations and were told "uh I don't know because they don't give us an employee discount on food!" ... The service was never the focal point, but the past 4 times I have been here now the terrible service is the main thing I'm left remembering. That was a bit shocking!! But we paid and figured it was higher because of the jazz fest going on. No we look at their menu and that's the going rate all the time. So we waited for our rolls....... It took a really really long time! So much so we missed an entire performance which is usually an hour. When we finally get our bags and head out to go back to the concert we realize we have the wrong rolls. At this point we are them anyway. Because we weren't going to go back and I was starving. The roll I ate was indeed delicious but it was very small. It was about 1/2 to 3/4 the size of a sushi roll you'd get elsewhere. The ambience of this restaurant was beautiful, I could see the inspiration from old Japanese architecture. This was wonderful to me as lots of restaurants don't seem to care about making their dining experience cohesive and matching their decor with the food. I really enjoyed looking around the restaurant as I ate! It was cleanly, which is something I always pay attention to in restaurants. I don't know if we just came on the wrong day, though, as there was a terrible smell inside and around the outside of the restaurant. However, the atmosphere as well as the staff were both extremely pleasant. The hostesses were so nice, and so was our waitress! Our waitress made small talk and was even kind enough to recommend some rolls and a cocktail to me. I loved the spicy garlic edamame, it was toasty and very flavorful! Also, not insanely spicy. I went through it FAST. Haha As for the rolls, the "Baked Lobster Tempura Roll" was remarkable. It was like a flavor bomb in my mouth. I would say this one was worth the price. As for the "Lollipop" roll, while I enjoyed it for it's freshness I don't find it worth the price. Nice concept, though! The cuts of salmon and yellowtail sashimi were not too impressive, either. They were beautifully presented, but not too flavorful. Although it strangely reminded me and my partner of a barbecue... the "Kinbato" cocktail was quite enjoyable with a unique flavor profile. I really liked how it was a beautiful restaurant and very spacious. I sat at the bar (bartender was very friendly) and ordered a small bottle of sake and sushi. I ordered the ahi tuna tataki, which was okay, and sashimi. Sashimi was cut large and very fresh, which I enjoyed. I did wish they had a sushi/sashimi dinner option instead of picking them a la carte. I believe they have it for lunch but not for dinner. Walked in today and they had a diffuser at the host's stand. It smelled like citrus mixed in with the offensive odor of sewage. This place has a sewage issue and it's highly unappetizing. We turned around and walked to the other end of High Street and found a fun Hawaiian place.
