Located in Desert Ridge Marketplace, I checked out The Whining Pig on a Saturday night. Since I live in the area, I walked over. There is ample parking if you're driving. This beer-focused bar isn't the easiest to find because it's underground down a stairwell. Look for the signage close to the stairwell. Ambiance (3.5/5): We sat at a booth at the bar. It's one of the few seats that have back support (which is important to me due to my old man back). Outside of that, it's all barstool seating with no back support inside. Outside, they have a small patio with chairs. That would be another option for me when the weather cooperates. The decor inside is your typical beer bar decor. Laid back. Comfortable. There's a jukebox. A cool place to grab some brews. Service (3.5/5): Two bartenders were working that evening and they were pretty solid. I did have to grab their attention a few times but no biggie. The Whining Pig has daily specials including a beer and grilled cheese combo on Wednesdays. I was curious on the price. They didn't know nor did they find out. That was a miss. Food (N/A): No food for me on this visit as I had dinner prior. They have a small menu, mostly made up of various grilled cheese sandwiches. They have a classic one, a pizza one, and a few others. I'm a dan of grilled cheese so I'll definitely try one out at some point. They also have charcuterie boards. Drinks (4.5/5): Now for the good stuff! Unlike most beer spots, they also have wine and several cocktails. But when in Rome, so I went with a beer flight. You can choose five beers of your choosing from a list of 40 beers or so. While they don't brew their own beer, they have an interesting selection of local craft beers and European ones. The types of beers you're not going to find at your neighborhood bar, including saisons and sours. The flight is served in a pig shape holder which was pretty funny. Flights are always my go-to when they're offered as they allow you to try out a nice variety. Added bonus: Walk down the hallway past the bathrooms and you'll run into Pigtails---a speakeasy owned by the same folks. That way, you can get both your brews and elevated cocktails fix in the same night. read more

Look for the bronze sign, look over the hedges, look for the stairs leading downstairs into the outdoor bar patio area, follow the walking map on Yelp! Once you locate it though you find yourself inside this cool bar with tons of beer, ipa, cider & wine options on a chalkboard wall in color coordination to make it easy to choose. If you still can't decide the friendly bar staff will help you out, there are a lot of options. They do have some things on happy hour. Food wise they have a charcuterie board, grilled cheese sandwiches& potato chips. Menu items from Pigtails are also available at the bar. There is a big bar top area and other indoor table seating, patio is shady during the day. I'd recommend this spot if you're out shopping and need a break or if you just want a cool bar to hang out at. If you like ciders the Black Widow -Original Sin cider is very delicious. read more

Awesome Happy Hour and not packed at Friday around 4p. They have tons of specials and lots of mystery items if you're willing to take a risk! The bartenders were so friendly and it's a super chill vibe inside. Music playing, random shows playing on TV, and all kinds of fun games available to play! I've always been a big fan of "The Whining Pig" establishment, but this location is by far the most comfortable with great service. I'm a mother of two toddlers, and the entry area is so welcoming and probably one of the few places I can just enjoy a beer with my whole family without stressing about my kids running around or bothering anyone. They love the chalk wall, the bathroom is clean, and the staff is very kind and understanding. As a parent of young kids, you want more than anything to get out, but it's almost more stressful getting out than just staying home and keep the craving and FOMO stirring. I was expecting a brewery in terms of making beer in house but this is a tap house. The selection is vast and I love that the selections are color coded as to type of beer. It made it easier for us out of towners to order. I was thrilled to see a few Toppling Goliath beers on tap as well (being from Iowa and all). We have been here twice... PEANUT BUTTER STOUT - we actually call before we come to see if this stout is tapped. Beyond the stellar tap and wine choices, the ambiance is upbeat and loud...but super fun. There are games on the tables so that you can't be bored when having drinks with the dullards you brought with you. I never really understood the whole games and trivia on the table...but my wife ALWAYS whips out the trivia and starts quizzing me. This last time, we actually had a meat and cheese board. Amazing and hit the spot. Maybe next time we will try a different drink...but if Belching Beaver Peanut Butter Stout is on tap, there is fat chance of that happening. Just like all the Whining Pigs, this place is awesome. There are friendly bartenders and friendly patrons. There are so many beers on tap, it is easy to find an old favorite or try something new. I need to preface this by saying that I'm from LA. Maybe my standards are too high. When you walk into this place, it looks like something you would find in LA. However, they literally had one food item available. They said they could make one grilled cheese sandwich and that was it. So, our table of six women shared one grilled cheese sandwich. It was a Wednesday night, but I still can't imagine a good reason for not having food in a restaurant. They do have an extensive drink list, but not a single non-alcoholic beer. The only options for sober people are canned sodas. Like, not even a high-end bottled root beer? Weird, but OK. I selected the place because it looked cute, and because it's my birthday. I would probably go back, because there is nothing else nearby like it. But, if I were to become a regular, I would definitely speak to a manager and ask for nonalcoholic options. Great deals and great atmosphere! Came here for a celebratory drink on Friday and had a great time. They have tons of beer and wine options, and if you go through the dark hallway they have a second bar with fun cocktails! We stayed in the main bar and I got a red blend, my boyfriend for some beers. They have happy hour until 8 which is super amazing. They also have fun games to keep you entertained! Staff was nice too, halfway through my glass of wine a bug flew into my drink and they quickly got me a new glass. I can't wait to come back! read more
