Great vibe and Pat and Nicole and the rest of the staff were most welcoming and accommodating. I am from Vegas and need more of this. Looking forward to visiting again!

Little hole in the wall lounge with great service and prices. The bar and the bathrooms were extremely clean and I can totally appreciate the "nice vibes only" policy. They even offer a cute little menu with really affordable snacks and apps. Will definitely be dropping off my husband here at my next visit to HomeGoods.

First time here, I don't care what the service or atmosphere is like, all I need to know is there's a coug flag on the wall. Go Cougs. Best bar ever.

    Yahtzee!!!

So I'm not big on negative reviews but occasionally it's warranted. I have only been to the bar twice and each time, either myself or a friend were asked to leave. While they cited "too much alcohol" they certainly continued to serve well beyond that point, and it only became an issue once the "usuals" started to get defensive and mean. Both times there have been groups of people who really didn't give this a good "dive bar, cheers feeling" but rather, were total jerks. That's a bummer. My advice if you want to go: already be a little drunk. Go w a big group of friends, as you won't be welcomed otherwise...at least you'll have your support system. ‍‍‍ Good characteristics: great IPA beer on tap, for cheap! Love the karaoke music. Love the board games idea...but the unfriendly attitudes from "usual suspects" and some of the staff does preclude me from anticipating any future returns. Plenty of dive bars in town...moving on cheers! Ps...thanks for returning my missing phone that somehow made it "behind the tank of one of the bathroom toilets" *wink wink* sure...

Consistently solid and exactly what you want from the style. Service Laid-back and smooth. Everything feels dialed in without being overly formal, which fits the vibe perfectly. Ambience This is where they really separate themselves. Instead of the typical dim, sticker-covered, industrial brewery feel, this place is bright, clean, and curated. It honestly feels closer to a well-designed coffee shop, but built around great beer. Not a huge space, but comfortable enough to grab a pint and hang out without feeling cramped. 2 stars More Born &…read moreBland than Born & Bred. There's a rather impressive website promising a polished Scottsdale experience. Unfortunately, the actual experience seems to have been misplaced somewhere between the marketing department and the kitchen. The food simply isn't very good. Add flies and a moth enthusiastically buzzing around the dining area during brunch and the overall experience becomes rather difficult to defend. Service started strongly enough, but then disappeared despite the restaurant hardly being busy. We eventually had to ask the hostess to pick up the slack, which is never an especially encouraging sign. To be fair, the service is probably the strongest part of the operation, although that bar is not exactly set at Olympic height. The atmosphere was completely blah. It has the curious energy of a place that either used to be very good or is desperately trying to convince you that it is. There's a sense that whoever owns or manages it lost the spark some time ago and is now relying on the branding to do the heavy lifting. And that's really the issue: great website, overpromised experience, underwhelming delivery. Hospitality is about execution, not just having attractive photographs and clever copy. Nothing was catastrophic, which somehow makes it worse. It's simply mediocre, tired and drifting. Scottsdale has far too many good options to spend money somewhere that feels like it's already in a slow decline. Won't be coming back. Two stars, and one of those is being awarded for the staff who were actually trying. Born & Bred? More like born, bred and slightly past its prime.

This beer-focused bar isn't the easiest to find because it's underground down a stairwell. Look for the signage close to the stairwell. Ambiance (3.5/5): We sat at a booth at the bar. It's one of the few seats that have back support (which is important to me due to my old man back). Outside of that, it's all barstool seating with no back support inside. Outside, they have a small patio with chairs. That would be another option for me when the weather cooperates. The decor inside is your typical beer bar decor. Laid back. Comfortable. There's a jukebox. A cool place to grab some brews. Service (3.5/5): Two bartenders were working that evening and they were pretty solid. I did have to grab their attention a few times but no biggie. The Whining Pig has daily specials including a beer and grilled cheese combo on Wednesdays. I was curious on the price. They didn't know nor did they find out. That was a miss. Food (N/A): No food for me on this visit as I had dinner prior. They have a small menu, mostly made up of various grilled cheese sandwiches. They have a classic one, a pizza one, and a few others. I'm a dan of grilled cheese so I'll definitely try one out at some point. They also have charcuterie boards. Drinks (4.5/5): Now for the good stuff! Unlike most beer spots, they also have wine and several cocktails. But when in Rome, so I went with a beer flight. You can choose five beers of your choosing from a list of 40 beers or so. While they don't brew their own beer, they have an interesting selection of local craft beers and European ones. The types of beers you're not going to find at your neighborhood bar, including saisons and sours. The flight is served in a pig shape holder which was pretty funny. Flights are always my go-to when they're offered as they allow you to try out a nice variety. Added bonus: Walk down the hallway past the bathrooms and you'll run into Pigtails---a speakeasy owned by the same folks. That way, you can get both your brews and elevated cocktails fix in the same night.

Based on how this place is described and marketed, we were expecting an intimate, vintage-feeling evening where we could sit down, have a cocktail, listen to jazz, and enjoy the atmosphere. That was not our experience. There were definitely things we liked. The location was great, the overall theme and decor were beautiful, the lighting created a great atmosphere, and we enjoyed the food and drinks. The service was also very good. However, the entertainment was a huge miss and completely took us out of the experience. We walked in and the band was performing "Genie in a Bottle," followed by other current/recent pop songs, Backstreet Boys songs, and "Creep." The singer was repeatedly screaming into the microphone and encouraging everyone to scream and make noise. At one point, while sitting in what is supposed to be a speakeasy, we were literally listening to him sing "creep" which is one of the most depressing songs of all time. It felt much more like being at a loud dive bar or country bar than an intimate 1920s inspired speakeasy. My biggest issue is that the entertainment did not match the experience being advertised. You can decorate a room beautifully and make it look like the 1920s, but when the soundtrack is "Genie in a Bottle," "Creep," and Backstreet Boys songs being loudly belted into a microphone, the illusion disappears pretty quickly. The noise level also made it difficult to simply sit, have a drink, talk, and enjoy the space. We specifically chose this place because we wanted that relaxed jazz/speakeasy experience, and that simply wasn't what we got. The cocktail selection was another disappointment. For a speakeasy-style bar, I expected a stronger selection of specialty bourbon and whiskey cocktails. The prices also felt excessive for the overall experience. On top of the already-high prices, we paid a $20 entertainment cover ($10 per person) specifically for the band. I wouldn't have minded paying a cover for quality live entertainment that fit the advertised atmosphere, but the artist was not particularly impressive and, more importantly, the music didn't fit the theme at all. There is a lot of potential here. The space itself is beautiful, the service was good, and they nailed many of the visual details. Unfortunately, the entertainment is such a major part of a speakeasy experience that it overshadowed everything else for us. If you're specifically looking for jazz, flapper-era music, and an authentic-feeling 1920s speakeasy atmosphere, I would not recommend this place based on our experience.
