As a karaoke lover, obviously I had to investigate. First impression? Bigger and nicer inside than I expected! Two pool tables right when you walk in (and rumor has it they're only $1.25 a game... hello 90s, nice to see inflation apparently skipped pool ), plenty of seating, tables around the bar, and just a solid neighborhood bar setup. The bar itself was pretty full when I arrived, and the only open seat was directly in front of the taps (not exactly my chosen throne), so I figured I'd grab a table. Except before I even got that far, someone struck up a conversation: "First time here?" And somehow within minutes I had new friends. Him and his girl were genuinely the sweetest, and that turned into meeting even more people. The vibe was just easy... people actually talking to each other, introducing themselves, and being welcoming. The bartender was attentive and made a bomb Shirley Temple. One may have been approximately 73% grenadine, but honestly who doesn't need a full-blown sugar rush when karaoke is happening and the vibes are immaculate? The entertainment situation is also solid. Karaoke every night, trivia on at least one night (not sure which, but I'm told trivia kicks things off and then karaoke takes over), pool tables, and a patio area outside with games like giant Jenga, extra seating, and separate music playing. So if karaoke isn't your thing (who hurt you?) you can escape outside and still hang out. I didn't eat, but the food coming out looked GOOD. Not sad "we threw frozen stuff in a fryer and called it dinner" bar food, more like amped-up bar food. I also heard from multiple people that the food is legit, so clearly I need to investigate that next. Location-wise, it's probably an Uber spot for me and not somewhere I'm making a late-night solo trek home from, but I'm told Ubers are easy to grab. Overall? I walked in curious and left with my heart full. Good conversations, kind people, fun karaoke, and a way better night than I ever expected. I don't know if I'll become a regular, but when I get that urge to go "people out in the world," Ain't Nick's is officially on the list. My heart was tickled. And yes, that's the official rating system. Bonus points: I got carded, which as someone who is well past the legal drinking age but still approximately 14 years old at heart, absolutely made my night before it even started.

He will check your ID and then you'll make your way through the walk in fridge. That will take you to a door that leads you to the speakeasy. When you think of a speakeasy, you think of dim lighting. Intimate. Quiet. This isn't that. On the weekends, Stardust turns into a casual club. There's a DJ, there's a dance floor, and there's pin ball. Not your run-of-the-mill speakeasy at all. So I guess it all depends on what you're looking for. For me, I think I would like it a lot more on a week day when it's a lot less congested. Service (4/5): Even with them being quite busy, the bartenders are quite efficient and attentive. Which makes things go through quickly, despite a line. Well done all-around. My only complaint? You pay on those little handheld devices which don't show you an itemized receipt. I had to ask for one. Food (N/A): They're owned by the same people as Ziggy's so you can wait for your food at Ziggy's and then bring it into Stardust. There are a few booths in Stardust so you can sit and eat. Ziggy's is pretty good pizza, so I recommend it. Drinks (3/5): When we're talking speakeasies, the expectation is elevated cocktails with an interested blend of flavors and ingredients. While Stardust has a cool menu, the cocktails are made quickly so the focus is on speed rather than quality. They're not bad per se, nor are the prices, but they're not speakeasy quality. I've tried four or five different ones on the menu. The creativity is there to a degree, but the execution isn't. While a bit critical since they're a speakeasy, overall, Stardust is a pretty cool spot. If you come right after a concert gets out at Van Buren, expect for there to be a long line. I'm planning to come back on a Tuesday. Why? Free pinball (normally it's a $1 per play) and specials on cheese pizza slices and beer.

Although we were all dressed up for the 70s band, it was probably a mistake to visit in the summer heat. Entrance to the main performance area was delayed, so we were all forced to stay in the extremely humid, hot and wet open bar area for the longest time waiting 30 mins for the main area to open inside. In the open bar area our party was pummeled with industrial misters, which were a cross between cool and just soaking wet misters. Bar staff wete great at the start, then as the place got busy, ordering took a long time with no formal queues set up. Advice is to not leave a tab open at the open bar as the bar inside was a lot emptier and service was a lot quicker. Not many areas to sit at, what made things worse was the 1 largest table is reserved for the local medical college, who defended in hoards at 930 and inundated the bar making it very hard to order or close the tab. Water is a must, they have pots of water in the entrance but sell water at the bar, which was not cooled. Main stage area was massive, loud and luckily our group was able to get seats and the one table inside by the dance floor. Inside was drier, slightly cooler with no misters. A lot of folks were dressed in great 70s clothes which was clearly made uncomfortable with the amount of misterd in rhe open bar area. Although a short walk from the Marriott hotel, note that walk is unfortunately through a large homeless area. Valet parking was available, not published by the event. Wouldn't recommend walking back to the hotels just north at night. The band area was massive, 10 person band was excellent, but dance floor and stage was constantly being filmed, photographed by intrusive folks and if that wasnt bad enough, a sound guy with an ipad constantly moved through the dance floor, pushing you away to work on the sound, which was never perfected. We purchased tickets to see a 70's and 80's band that was scheduled to start at 7:30pm according to our tickets but the roll up door for the inside area didn't open until 8:30pm so we were stuck in the heat of the outdoor area. There aren't many places to sit and the one area outside that was like a massive picnic table was reserved for 100 medical students who never sat there when they eventually arrived. The bartenders are amazing. They make very complicated drinks with fresh squeezed fruit like lemons but there were only two behind the outside bar so it was difficult to place a drink order. When we eventually wanted to close out our tab we each had to get in a separate line drink as the bar was so understaffed. Suggestion: Pay for your drinks as you go into the evening so that you don't have to wait at the bar to close your tab. I understand that it is common for the Duce to host theme dance parties and they had an incredible 70's & 80's live ba with 9 band members on a tiny stage. I would love to see the band in a larger venue. We were off to the side and in front of the band and the entire time we were there, there was someone, who I think was with the Duce, constantly video recording mostly the band and sometimes the dancers. It was hard to enjoy the band with someone continually moving in front of us to video record. We were there for 2 hours and he never stopped recording. None of the areas of the Duce are fully indoors and during the summer be sure to dress for the heat.

The bathrooms are at the back. Plenty of space to stand and watch the show. They do have a great sense of ambience. Not just the decor of the venue, but how it's set up. They have these garage doors that can open up. So that's cool if you wanna like hang at the patio but still listen to the band. The patio area is where the merchandise is usually located. Even the people that greeted you and asked you about the usual ID, tickets, etc... I was recently at a venue and the person asking about the tickets or taking the money wasn't exactly nice. Luckily, I knew some of the security, she was totally cool. anyway, aside from the ambience in the venue, the stage has its own. Decent size, great lighting, and they might be using a hazer. The sound has always been impeccable. They have it locked in. There are some bands that I was questioning the mix at other venues, but they seem to have it dialed in, especially with vocals.
