This was my first time here, and my first time trying Vietnamese food, so I was not sure what I was in for. First off, the place is very clean, and we were promptly waited upon. We started off with the Tofu spring rolls, and they were excellent and you get four large rolls! Next we ordered the Banh Mi sandwiches, and they were incredible! Came in here on a Friday night and it was kind of busy but I was able to still get a seat quickly. I'm just gonna cut to the chase , the food is just ok. I see lots of 5 star reviews, but the food wasn't five star quality for me. I had the pork fried egg rolls and oxtail pho. They give you a generous amount of egg rolls. Most places will give you about 2. They were nice and crispy and I actually enjoyed them more than my pho. So I love oxtails and was excited when I saw oxtail pho on the menu, as many pho joints don't serve it. I was instantly let down when the server put it in front of me. 14.00 for two small pieces of oxtail and lots of flank steak. I was not happy with it, plus the two pieces I got barely had any meat on them. To add insult to injury, the pho broth wasn't all that great. It was a pretty disappointing bowl of pho. The staff were nice, but based on that bowl of pho, I most likely won't come back. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant! The food has so much flavor, the quality is exceptional, and their prices are so reasonable. For me, if the leftovers are as tasty as the food was at the restaurant, it means that quality ingredients are being used.. At New Leaf Bistro, everything is just as delicious a day or two later, even the spring rolls, which is saying a lot. I eat here at least once a month -- and sometimes even a couple of days in a row -- and everything is excellent. Some of my favorites are the pho (vegetarian is delicious -- use the sauces on the table to add even more depth), stir-fried eggplant and tofu, firecracker chicken, and they've just started offering Pad Thai (wow! AMAZING!!) And don't miss their Mango Cake for dessert! It's similar to a cheesecake, isn't too sweet, and has tons of flavor. Even though I'm a chocolate fiend, their Mango Cake is worth every scrumptious calorie -- even though there's not a drop of chocolate in it. :) Don't miss this great little restaurant. Tried them out for the first time today and had the beef pho. It was really good, not the ultimate best...I think is lacking a little bit of flavor. What I loved was the freshness of the basil, sprouts, lime and the meat had very little fat, which I prefer. The place was super clean, the service was friendly and fast. They tell you on the phone 15 minutes when I called well over 20 minutes ago and I've been sitting in the restaurant waiting for my phone order for another 30 minutes. From my observation of sitting here so long, they panic when they are busy causing service to be terrible. I saw another sit down customer trying to look for a utensil behind the counter since no one came by to check on them. Food is okay. I've definitely had better. Came for lunch and was not crowded. I got the eggplant tofu and it was exceptionally delicious! Saucy with the perfect amount of sweetness and the right consistency- not too runny not super thick. Definitely will get it again. My friend got the vegan pho and was very happy with it! The bowl was huge with tons of noodles! The servings are big and prices super reasonable. The menu is wide with lots of options for whatever you're feeling. It's almost hard to pick. The only down side is the staff was kind of MIA for a lot of our dining. Our water glasses stayed empty for quite some time, and We had to wait a long time to get the check because no one was around to see that we were done. My wife and I have discovered a new dating routine: we eat at the New Leaf Bistro either before or after seeing a movie across the street at the Admiral Theater. Even when the movie is a strike-out, we can pretty much count on the meal being a home-run. We like the calamari appetizer so much that we always double-order it, along with a vegetarian dish like eggplant-tofu stir-fry and rice. We're also partial to the Asahi 'dry' beer, especially in the larger size. The vermicelli, the pho, the sandwiches--everything we've tried has been excellent. We meet friends for dinner here, and they've loved it, too. The family who owns this restaurant does as meticulous a job in the dining room as they do in the kitchen. Not many places open on Dec 24th, this place was. Have been meaning to go, but just never had the chance. Glad I did. My daughter had the Beef Pho, I had the vegan. Vegan came with fried tofu, green beans, baby bok choi.. and more. We were both very happy with the pho. The service was the best of any other Pho places we've been to. Especially when comparing to the other option on California. The young man and young lady were very attentive. For that reason alone, we'll be back. Top recommendations are golden fried spring rolls, veggie pho, beef combination pho, grilled short ribs rice platter, and the grilled pork sandwich. I've read a couple reviews about this place that mentioned the issue I just had. I ordered a large pho beef to go, and when I unpackaged it at home, the beef was raw. The broth wasn't hot enough to cook the beef so the entire pho became inedible. I called them and they said you must SPECIFY if you would like your beef to come cooked.... I will never return to a place that assumes their customers would prefer raw beef to go with the beef pho, rather than cooked. Absolutely ridiculous. They need to specify ON THE WEBSITE that their beef will come RAW. Wow. Super disappointing. read more

Ordered food to go. Was told 20-30 minutes... 1h20 min later I got my food. They should be honest and tell you that upfront... I would have gone somewhere else: They are just not well organize for this new food to go thing. Also i had asked to have my order with no tomatoes and Yeap there was tomatoes. I won't go back until restaurant are fully open as this was an awful experience: they had about 15 people waiting on their order to go and were just unable to adjust to the demand - people waiting were starting to be extremely annoyed. I've visited this location several times and previously rated them with four stars for the price, selection, and decent flavor based on my first experience. However, each experience has gotten worse and worse. Since visiting, I have had the waiter spill pho on me and stain my pants. Other than a half-hearted apology, nothing was taken off my bill to compensate for wet, stinky jeans. On another occasion, my bf and I ordered the large pho. His came back in a smaller bowl and the server read off the ticket "regular" instead of large. When we asked about it, the woman who originally took the order said the bowl was smaller but the same amount (umm, no) and called the server crazy! Add to it that getting your glass of water refilled is impossible. The portion of pho is mediocre compared to other places. The fish sauce recipe is gross. And the bahn mi is pretty disappointing as well. I've decided not to waste my time or money here any more. You shouldn't either. ;-) read more

Very rarely do I venture out of the city to try new restaurants, but when I saw my friend's Facebook post about this new Vietnamese joint across the bridge, I just had to check it out. It was the middle of the week. I stopped in around 7p and was starving. I found street parking right out front after circling the block once. Once inside I noticed is clean and new; no overwhelming smell of pho or anything. I was determined to try the pho, but they had so many other options that looked good. All the dishes seemed reasonably priced compared to other Vietnamese restaurants. Service was attentive. They were nice and appreciative of their customers. I opted for the combination pho with added tendon for an extra buck. My friend got the pork vermicelli bowl and we shared the fried salt and pepper squid. The pho was good. The regular size was perfect for me. The tendon was perfectly cooked. The calamari was perfectly fried and tasty. I loved the hot mustard in the dipping sauce. It's different, but I liked it. My friend also enjoyed her pork vermicelli bowl. This is an above average Vietnamese joint that I would not mind coming back to again. If I lived in the area, I would probably be a regular since I love Vietnamese food and want to try all of their other offerings like the rice dishes. read more

Fabulous Vietnamese food, worth the drive over to West Seattle if you don't live around here. My fiance commented that the sauces were perfectly balanced (true!) You could taste every flavor, but they all blended harmoniously. I recommend the fresh rolls with the peanut sauce (an example of the perfectly balanced sauces). I had the salt and pepper calamari, with yet another beautiful sauce (hot mustard). My fiance had the pho with beef and said the broth was delicious, with all the right seasonings. We just discovered this gem a few weeks ago, and I'm so upset we didn't find it sooner because it is now my favorite takeout. They are so nice and the food is delicious. I am gluten free and the first time I called, I was patiently walked through which menu items can be made gluten-free. I have now ordered the firecracker chicken twice and it's delicious. I have been to New Leaf many times since it opened as it is one of the few quick and easy take-put options in the area. I've had the beef pho, vermicelli bowls, spring rolls, firecracker chicken,vegetable stir fry, fried rice and chow mein. All delicious! I've never had an order be messed up. Not only is the food fresh and delicious (with great vegetarian/vegan options) but the service is fabulous. Not every decent restaurant in West Seattle has even mediocre service so the attentive and kind staff at New Leaf is refreshing. They had some negative reviews when they first opened and yes things were a little messy. Long wait times and frazzled staff. However within the first few weeks of opening that all went away and every time I go in I notice the work the owners are putting into the restaurant. Great place! read more

Let me start by saying the food wasn't bad. The service is another story. Ok I know it's a new spot but hire some trained wait staff! There were people who walked in and were ignored. There were three tables of people seated who got up and left because they weren't served. The wait staff looked confused. They took plates out of the kitchen one by one regardless of the orders/table. I saw them bring 5 dishes (three different waiters) to one table and each time it was the wrong order. I had to remind them that I wasn't the only one eating dinner at the table after my soup went cold waiting for the other order. They never brought checks so people lined up at the back counter to pay. Why is there a back counter? Is this a bistro or a takeout joint? It's hard to tell. I'll give them another try in the future and call it growing pains but please please hire TRAINED wait staff! read more

Just had lunch here and everything was delicious. The staff was kind and prompt. I hope the folks that complained about customer service don't go back because I want this place all to myself! The appetizers: fried chicken wings, salt and pepper calamari, and eggrolls were great starters. The pho broth wasn't clear, but still very flavorful. The porkchop rice dish was very good and fulfilling. Gluten free options, brown rice, and vegan broth available. Didn't see banh xeo, I was craving for that. The ice coffee was very good!!! A great addition to an area that doesn't seem to retain too many restaurants. The decor and the menu are no frills, but this is much more than just a take-out front. The dining area is large, with high-backed booths lining the walls and friendly staff that keep glasses filled. Pho (with beef, chicken or vegan broth) is what draws people in, but, for those not in the mood, there are many different options. Chicken chow mein (as requested with light oil) is among the best in the area. Salt and pepper calamari was the surprise hit of the night. Will return and recommend. read more

This place has been open for just over 2 weeks and they are doing great! We just ate take-out for dinner and it was delicious. The salt & pepper calamari was my favorite. The peppers were colorful, fresh & spicy. The calamiri was lightly battered & fried to perfection! I also really enjoyed my vermicelli bowl with beef & egg roll. The veggies were crisp & the meat was super flavorful. My only distaste was that the meat was really chewy. I wasn't a fan of the egg rolls they had a sweet finish that I didn't expect, I don't usually eat egg rolls so it didn't bother my opinion. We also had the general tsao chicken which was spicy & sweet, delicious, but the dish was a little on the small side. Or maybe we just liked it so much that we wanted more. My husband and I went last night for a late dinner. I was very happy to see so many vegan options. I had the vegan pho, which was very fresh and healthy, and a delicious mango salad. My husband opted for the beef pho, which he said was very fresh and pretty good. Neither one of us felt sick afterwards (i usually feel sick after eating vietnamese food). The owner is very sweet and welcoming, and the servers were very nice and attentive. They are new to the area and so are working out the start-up kinks that can occur in the first few weeks. Compared to the popular Pho chain restaurant down the street, the broth is 10x better and the bean sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeños, and limes they give you on the side are way more fresh. We've gotten take out from here several times, the pho is ok, better than Thanh Brothers on California Ave (which is horrible) but not as good as Pho Aroma on Delridge . The broth is somewhat bland if you are someone that knows their pho broth. We get pho here only on Sundays when pho Aroma is closed. One time I decided to go nuts and order the chow mein. Worst idea ever, not only was it not good, instead of using the classic egg noodles that chow mein is supposed to be made with, they used fettuccine pasta noodles! I was so confused.
