Surprised that this place only had 3.5 stars! We were checking out West Seattle in the evening and figuring out where to get a bite. We saw this place and decided to check it out! The restaurant is pretty inside! The bar area is cool! The drinks are AMAZING! I tried the Mai Tai and banana cocktails. The bar tender/server was our bartender and made the drinks in front of us! We got 2 starters, the roti massaman -- the curry was so good with this! The fish cakes were outstanding and one of a kind! My bf and I shared a chicken pad Thai! So good! Let me start by saying that the portions here are generous!! I loved the variety of food offered in the menu (from appetizers to mains). I'm excited to share the delicious food that was ordered and happily indulged during dinner Friday night! - Basil fried rice 10/10 - must get, so delicious, add a fried egg to it to make it extra special! - Boat noodles 9/10 - reminds me of pho (beef) broth, missing a bit of tanginess & bitterness from pork blood but very delicious overall - Phad Thai tofu (10/10) - good noodle texture, choice of soft or fried tofu, fresh & flavorful - Tom Yum Tofu (9/10) - more on the citrus/tangy side which I prefer, lots of mushrooms and pairs well with soft tofu - Green Curry Tofu (8/10) - lots of tofu, comes with rice and flavorful, just missing a bit of spice kick Overall when you mention 2 stars, everything is quite enjoyable just a hint of spiciness. My favorite Thai restaurant in West Seattle - we usually order as takeout so the photos we have are just of me devouring the delicious food. I feel like the dishes are more consistent and flavorful than other area Thai restaurants- I especially like the pad kee mao and the crispy garlic chicken. Portions are big - we can usually get two meals out of one dish - and the orders are always correct which is not always the case for takeout. Service has been friendly when I run in to grab food and the times I have eaten in person there I have found the ambience clean and pleasant. I want to order again just thinking about it! read more

Went here recently after not having been for a couple years. I brought my girlfriend for date night, thinking it was what it was a few years ago. Drinks amazing as always. Food and portion sizes? Terrible. We ordered a curry with mostly broth and little to no veggies. Our rice was hard. And small portion sizes of noodles. We also asked for no egg and received egg. Have lived in WS for 11 years but somehow never ate here until New Year's Eve - and will go back soon! Nice ambiance sitting in the bar, we enjoyed the lemongrass and purple blossom cocktails. The Roti Massaman appetizer was lightly crunchy and fluffy, with a delicious dipping gravy. We then had the Tom Yum soup, the best I can recall ever having. It was a huge serving so we took extras home. Then we shared the Dungeness Crab pad Thai which was a delight; the crab added a subtle sweetness to this classic. Not sure why this spot has such negative reviews. I thought the quality and taste was great today! Service was friendly. Super tasty soups and entree. I recommend the three we ordered. I love soup noodles, so opted to try two different ones Tom yum noodle soup: level 3 spicy (not "Asian" spicy), we could have gotten a 4 and been ok! Just enough sour and a little heat. Noodles soaked up the soup and the seafood was tasty! Man this broth was so good! Kow soi Chiang mai: level 2 spicy, a very tender piece of chicken, rich and flavorful broth, good texture noodles in the soup and the fried ones on top. Make sure to squeeze the lime in and add the sides to it! Chilis were given on the side to make it spicier if wanted. String beans and eggplant entree with tofu: level 3 spicy So tasty!! This longtime West Seattle restaurant is often overlooked in favor of flashier, hipper venues, but you should check it out. THE ROSES: Clean, roomy dining space. Very pleasant and professional staff. Comprehensive menu that does a good job covering the 'usual suspects' in Thai cuisine. Very clean restrooms. THE THORNS: No dedicated parking. Street parking in the Alaska Junction can be a bit of a challenge. So-called 'lunch menu' dishes are just a smaller-sized version of the plates they serve for 'family style' meals. Want some rice to make it a more typical lunch plate? That will cost you extra. Then there's the food. I really want to like this place a lot more than I liked the food I ordered; maybe they were having an 'off' day. The chicken in my crispy chicken and vegetables dish was really tough! The flavors were all on point, but the chicken in my dish was chewy almost to the point of being like beef jerky. My wife's garlic chicken was pretty chewy as well. THE VERDICT: By all rights, Bang Bar looks like it should be a pretty solid neighborhood Thai restaurant, but I'm concerned with what may have been some serious missteps with my food. Still, I'm willing to give them another chance, and will happily update this review if I find the food has improved. For now, neither recommend nor discourage. read more

They serve outstanding pad thai here! We had the crab pad thai which had two kinds of crab, blue claw and a crispy soft shell crab over a fried egg on top. We had a party of seven which they were able to easily accommodate. We had appetizers, a tom yum seafood soup and a selection of entrees. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend. read more

Really disappointed in my last experience. I ordered the Panang curry for take-out. The website clearly states there are string beans, bell peppers, and carrots in the curry (screenshot attached). Came home to find only a few pieces of bell pepper (along with the protein). I called to let them know because as someone who has worked in the industry I understand there's a million reasons why a dish might come out wrong, sometimes there's a new person in the kitchen or you run out of something, I just wanted to give them a heads up. Instead, the person I spoke to on the phone said I was looking at the wrong website, kept me on hold while they scrolled through the menu just to tell me that I was wrong, nowhere does it state that the panang curry comes with anything other than bell peppers. Okay, I said thank you for your time and hung up. I wasn't looking for a refund, just wanted to give them a heads up that their menu wasn't matching the product they were putting out. I even asked if the wrong website was linked to Apple Maps and they said no, it's the correct website. So if you order take-out, I would recommend clarifying on the phone what's included in each menu item so you're not disappointed like I was! Geez this was awful. Pork Prik King was burnt, dry, and tasted like jerky. Inexcusable and inedible. Crispy Garlic Chicken, a house specialty(?) was 95% breading and the miniscule thin pieces of chicken were dry and all of it was flavorless. Also inedible. SCRUMPTIOUS!!!! We got 4 things for the table and every item was absolutely delicious- crispy garlic chicken, garlic fried rice, pad see ew, and panang curry. Not a single miss but I think the fried rice was my favorite. On top of that the restaurant beautifully decorated with great music and the waiters are super funny and sweet. Our waiter went above and beyond, explaining to us all the different spices and chili's from the spice tray and showing us how Thai people like to eat their rice. Not my fave. Honestly this is where I reluctantly go when other Thai restaurants are closed. Everything I've tried except the ground meat is OK but nothing on the menu has wowed me. The flavors are kind of just there and there's really no punch or kick to this food. I don't know. It's just really average Thai food. I expected more given its prime location in the junction but there are far better options all within two miles of this restaurant. I have been going here since they opened, and they were a very close second to Buddha Ruksa at competitive prices. Always lots of care in their dishes. I have to say, I have seen a steady decline in the quality and portion size. As an example, I used to get a full side cup of peanut sauce with the Summer Rolls, now it is just a tiny bit of what they call peanut sauce- it's not. Thin and with vinegar- there is no vinegar in Peanut Sauce! That and every other order has some mistake. Wrong dish, omissions, and I have been handed someone else's order on more than one occasion. I'm quite surprised that our recent order was super disappointing. We have been consistent customers for 3 years. Unfortunately tonight every dish we ordered was either not the order we asked for or simply not cooked. Money bags tasted different, less yellow filling so I'm guessing recipe change. They were fantastic and an absolute favorite. Crispy garlic chicken had a very thick, mush outer coating when usually it's crispy and cooked right through. Also it was not spicy at all and we asked 4* Roti Massaman - roti was soaked in oil, it was drenched. I used paper towel to press it out but we had to throw it away as the oil had soaked into the layers. When we got to the restaurant we were told our order hadn't gone through and staff were apologetic. We understand technology issues. I'm wondering if you were trying to rush our food out to keep customer happy. Really disappointed, not sure why it wasn't as good as it always is.
