Came here for lunch and was genuinely impressed by the quality and service. We ordered the chicken katsu, hamachi kama, Fandango roll, and the Azuma Sushi Maki roll, and everything was delicious. The chicken katsu was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and not greasy at all, just the way it should be. The hamachi kama was perfectly grilled, super flavorful with just the right amount of char, and came with a ponzu dipping sauce that complemented it really well. Now the rolls... the Fandango roll was a standout, fresh, creative, and full of flavor without being overly saucy or heavy. The Azuma Sushi Maki roll was another winner, a solid choice if you're craving something classic with high quality fish. It's been several years since we ate here and Azuma was always a rock steady choice for Japanese food. The original owners (Harry & Jennifer) retired last year and one of their team members (Jenny) took over the business. I was a little nervous as I didn't see any recent Yelp reviews but Azuma hasn't skipped a beat! Solid maki rolls and katsu - the rolls are well constructed still ( with the proliferation of sushi places over the past 20 years, so many newer places seem to forget that the most important part of maki and nigiri is getting the rice right). The fish was fresh and sliced/ prepared well as always. Starters of ohitashi, sunomono, and agedashi tofu were a great way to start the meal. Don't sleep on the fried rice, btw - it's an unsung hero on the menu and still so good. Not necessarily traditional but once we ordered it in the past it's now a must order every time for us. I had miso soup, Udon, Tempura Vegetables and a couple pieces of a California roll. Everything tasted okay. Nothing seemed off at the time. A couple hours later I was very sick with painful gastro intestinal problems. My wife who only ate a couple of sushi rolls didn't get sick or have any digestive problems. read more

They're friendly people that make good tasting food. They let me pick my own table, they were pretty quick about making the food. I got the California Roll combo with Teryaki. It was pretty good. I'd recommend this spot if you're looking for a bite to eat either by yourself or with friends. They also have a QR code at the table you can scan to put in the order if you don't want to wait for them to come to you to ask if you're ready to order. Payment is made at the register in my experience though they may bring it to your table if you're not in a hurry. Felt great supporting a local restaurant near the neighborhood I grew up in. The food is good! The chicken on my teriyaki is nicely charred. I enjoy it very much, it has been my usual when I order here. They do a combo deal that comes with a California roll, and that's what I always opt for. I'm not a big edamame guy, but the edamame here is something else that I get every time. I love the Azuma maki because it has a variety of fish in one roll! But, sometimes, I like to taste the salmon alone, so I get the Alaska roll too! I love the miso soup (reminds me of home as a Japanese). The scallions and tofu, and I drink every drop in the cup they serve it in. As of 11/22 Azuma is take out only. The food was never great, but it was edible and we supported it as a local business. The takeout-only option has not made the food better and the front of the restaurant, the only part you are allowed in, is dirty, cluttered, and needs a serious degrease/mopping. Our most recent order included roles, edamame, nigiri, miso, and agedashi. The miso had an oil sheen, the nigiri rice fell apart, the edamame, tasted like it had been frozen a couple of times, and both of our rolls were the wrong kind of "fishy" for a sushi restaurant. This was probably our last time eating at Azuma unless they do some deep cleaning and a preparation overhaul. read more

I just went in to get the lunch bento box which was a bunch of food for 12 bucks - chicken katsu, a California roll, miso soup, rice and a salad. When I have been here in the past I have had a few of the rolls which were always fresh and delicious. Yes, there are other sushi restaurants nearby that are upscale and sustainable that I also love, but yes, also sometimes you want a lunch bento box that is not 40 bucks but is still delicious. A word of caution: the prices that you see through the "View Menu" option on Yelp are way different and less than the actual prices. For the actual prices, you have to go to their website and dig through the PDF-like menu. Regrettably, I placed a phone order referencing the Yelp linked menu, didn't receive a total, and didn't ask for one. When I went for pickup, I sent my partner in, and he had no idea what I ordered or the expected cost. What should have been ~$75 was $112 before tip. Example: the Love Boat for 2, around $52 through the Yelp menu, was over $80. That's not just a minor detail. I get that that this is an unclaimed business on Yelp, but has no one ever raised this before? Feels suspicious. i always forget how much I love Azuma, I ordered to go here last night after leaving Urgent Care starving. Ordered the Dynamite and Volcano rolls, was told by the nice lady that it would take 20min so I ran to Safeway for some groceries. Pick up was quick and effortless. Staff has tables set up at the front for check out and pick up. Both rolls were fantastic, the dynamite roll was flash fried perfectly, wasnt overly crunchy where the coating would cause you to choke haha. The volcano roll was so flavorful and buttery, definitely a favorite. I'll have to remember to order here from now on instead of trekking to sushi restaurants in Seattle. read more

I was thinking it would be spicy but I thought the texture was off and not much flavor. Now for the really good. Four of us came in ordered two rolls each to go. The staff was very friendly very efficient and I was able to get Sake to go. All of the other rolls (other than the volcano roll) was very good. I came here 2X now, and it's because I wanted to see a friend of mine in West Seattle. Since I checked all other Sushi places, this restaurant contains the most reasonable prices on California Avenue. The servers are good, but you really have to be clear with them at times because of language barrier. My fiance almost got charged 97 dollars because the waitress did not listen to him carefully about separate checks, but I got it resolved with her at the register machine. I usually order Bento combo, which has salad, a choice of meat, rice, and either shrimp and veggie tempura or Cali rolls. I always go for the shrimp tempura just because Japanese deep-fried food isn't something I'd eat daily. Just finished dinner here and overall we are pretty impressed! We are big fans of sushi, but weren't overly impressed the first time we came here so it has been a long time since our last visit. It's certainly not the finest sushi in Seattle, but for a close option in West Seattle - it is a decent option in order to satisfy our sushi craving without having to cross the bridge. Prices are decent, but no happy hour advertised or anything. It was super busy tonight with everyone wanting to get out of their house after all the winter weather, and while they were admittedly not prepared for it, they did a good job of taking care of everyone and maintaining friendliness. We ordered the dragon roll and dynamite roll (not fried) and both were very good. I really liked the eel on the dragon roll. We also ordered albacore, yellowtail, butterfish and salmon nigiri. I have never ever had an issue here, I visit often and am given nothing short of quick service, delicious food and a smile. Bonus: everything here is so cheap! I highly recommend the bagel roll if you're a fan of tempura'd sushi, and the udon is ok but a bit bland for my taste since it doesn't have anything but noodles, broth and then whatever meat/veggie you ordered. Where can you find lunch for $10 or less nowadays ?? I'm quite fond of the lunch specials at Azuma sushi. They start from $6.50 and up! We shared a few orders of sushi and the beef donburi special which came with miso soup. Beef donburi - generous portion of tender beef ribeye cooked in a savory sauce laid on a bed of rice. Hamachi nigiri - I really appreciate that the sushi had wasabi in it just like how they do it in Japan so props to keeping it authentic even though the owners are Chinese. The yellowtail was fresh and tender, not the best but not the worst. Hotate nigiri - plump and tender chunks of scallop. Amaebi - I always love me some sweet shrimp. I'm still growing used to eating the fried head that comes with it. Butter fish roll - First time trying butter fish, it doesn't taste like anything unique, the texture reminds me of scallop. I was a bit disappointed how loose the roll was made, the filling kept falling out and one of the pieces even fell apart all together. Overall the rating is actually 3.5 stars for the price and quality of the food but I'm rounding down because of how loose the roll was and the fish was falling out. read more

Very very very very good! After calling Mashiko & being told the wait was 2 hours, we came here based on a recommendation from a neighborhood local. We truly enjoyed this place! There was a large variety on the menu to choose from, everything was very fresh and the price was right. There was no wait once we got there and the staff was very friendly. We ordered the love boat for two which came with one dynamite roll, sashimi, Nigri, tempura and miso soup. Our eyes must of been bigger than our stomachs because we ordered an additional roll (volcano roll) and we had way too much food (we had to take home leftovers). But everything was very tasty!
