I'm conflicted about how to rate this place because it depends on what you order. Been coming back for years for the pho and banh mi, both of which are near the best we've had in the Seattle area. The pho broth is excellent. I personally like how you can add vegetables to it (for a small extra charge you get a large portion of bok choy, mushrooms, carrots and cabbage) as normally the only thing I have against pho is the lack of veggies. But tonight I tried the chicken bun (vermicelli) and nearly every piece of lettuce had brown spots, like it was old. I had to throw it all out. Whereas the chicken in the banh mi is succulent and nicely marinated, the chicken on the bun was dry and boring. Just a really bad night? read more

I lived in West Seattle for 4 years, and I have to say my diet consists of vietnamese, japanese & raw veggie-dishes. There's not many vietnamese restaurants in WS or at least where I was at (this is the only "full-fledged" one; the other 2 are either banh mi or pho and that's p much it). So this was a good staple. I love the nice lady who works here, I have good memories of her and I think having her there really impacts business - it's apparent from seeing her w other customers and also based on specific interactions I have had w her. I cannot say it's the best in Seattle, but I will say I went back many times while IN West Seattle and would recommend it. Consistent, clean & fast. Last night I decided to order beef pho to go from New Leaf Bistro. Ensuring I wouldn't lose most of the flavors when I got home, I tried to cook it rather than heating it in the microwave. Taking a bite of it, I could still taste all the flavors from the broth & the noodles. I love this family owned WS gem so much. One waitress who always does a great job attending what we want. She can memorize our orders without writing down and no mistakes each time. My favorites are vegan pho with beef broth (I know) and brisket pho. Order large. Their black rice taro dessert is tasty. Today they were slammed with orders and diners with only two servers. One family left after 5 mins not getting service right away but I hope people don't ding them for that. It's a covid time with labor shortage. The place is doing the best they can. read more

Very great food and friendly staff! I highly recommend it! I got the firecracker chicken (level 5 spicy) & it was soooooo good! I wish i took picture but the vegetables were so fresh and crunchy and the chicken had a great flavor. My wife got the Tofu Pho and it was also great. I was craving Vietnamese food on a Sunday night and we were too lazy to drive to the ID. We ended up at New Leaf in the Admiral district. The vermicelli bowls are overflowing here. I got the combo bowl, which consists of grilled shrimp, grilled pork, short ribs, and an egg roll. The pork was a little tough but the other items were pretty good. The veggies were fresh and the sauce wasn't overly sweet. All-in-all, a pretty satisfying dish. The wings had really good flavor. They were salty and sweet. We'll definitely order those again. Our waiter said the chef forgot our pad Thai, so it came out when we were almost finished with the other two dishes. We ended up taking most of it to go. It's a sweet tomato based sauce, so it's the orange tinged pad Thai, not the brown, tamarind flavored version. It was okay. We could have done without it though since the vermicelli bowl was big enough to fill us. I gave it 4 stars because based on the two dishes I ordered, I was very happy with my meal. The pad Thai my BF ordered is an afterthought. It doesn't add or take away from the meal. We didn't really need it. I just have lunch for tomorrow now. read more

This small little place has such great food we come over and over again. The pho is wonderful with flavorful broth, but my favorite are the fresh rolls, esp the lemongrass pork w fish sauce. Still searching for great pho in W. Seattle. It's not at New Leaf Bistro, (and it certainly isn't at Tran bros either). I have to believe that anyone who gives New Leaf 5 stars for their pho, simply hasn't had great pho. It's not horrible here, it's just lacking- lacking depth and interest. It's main flavor is saltiness; where is the intoxicating aroma and taste of star anise, cinnamon and cloves? I'll tell you where- at Pho Bac- where they not only have delicious broth, but twice the amount of rare beef than New Leaf, and better quality beef as well. Not to mention way cheaper. I tried the shrimp spring rolls here, too. Ho hum. The peanut sauce was cloying and gummy. Bottom line, at least for these 2 menu items, is meh for flavor, and overpriced. $40 for 2 bowls of pho, one order of spring roll and tea. no alcohol. No thanks read more

The menu feels like it's trying to be all Asian cuisine rather than Vietnamese. Pad Thai? General Tso chicken? No longer offer bun rieu or banh Xeo, which are a marker of authentic Vietnamese food. Decided to give this place another try several weeks ago, and I'm so glad I did. I typically have the brisket pho and the shrimp spring rolls. Hubs tends to either get the beef pho (combination of brisket and the rare steak) or the fried rice. They do a nice job here, even with the challenges associated with the pandemic. Service is always prompt, orders rarely need to be written down (and are always on point once served). They also do a stellar takeout business! Aside: they're one of the thorough places that not only checks for your vaccination, but matches it up to your ID, which I appreciate. read more

I have been here a few times now and this place is solid. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Always willing to serve. The menu is diverse. I often opt for the chicken pho which has a great broth and big chunks of chicken. A small is actually more than I can eat. The egg rolls and wings are delicious also. Very nice little Vietnamese restaurant in the Admiral Junction area of West Seattle. THE ROSES: Very neat, spacious dining space. Delightful staff who are efficient and very pleasant. They offer Vietnamese and some popular Chinese dishes. We had the Vietnamese and felt they were very nicely executed. Very reasonable prices give the diner great value for money. THE THORNS: None, really. THE VERDICT: New Leaf Bistro is a very nice little gem of a restaurant. Whether you dine in or take out (they seemed to have a very steady stream of takeout orders while we were there!), NLB is a very good choice for healthy Asian cuisine. Check it out! read more

Tried out this restaurant in West Seattle. I thought it was very interesting how this restaurant had all sorts of Asian dishes. My boyfriend and I ordered pho & vermicelli + pork + egg rolls (bun thit nuong cha gio). First impressions: huge portions! I was initially quite confused why the price was higher than most pho restaurants, but glad to find out that the portions matched the pricing. The flavor was decent but not amazing. First time ordering from this place during the pandemic and overall was a bad experience. Ordered Bun Bo Hue to go and honestly the broth and meat portions were beyond me. There were no pork meatballs which is the main thing I usually get when it comes to this dish. The broth tasted like steamed vegetable water and fermented shrimp paste. I haven't tried any other food from here but when it comes to anything broth related I think I will step aside from. I arrived earlier than my friends, and the server brought glasses of water and the silverware before they arrived. However, once my friends had joined me we had a very difficult time getting service. Two of us had our Phad Thai delivered a full 15 minutes before the third person got her brisket pho, and she mentioned it tasted "off." When they brought the bill it took the server another 20 full minutes to come back around to pick up my card for payment. It was not at all busy inside the restaurant, and I only noticed about 6 people arriving for takeout in the 2 hours we were there, so I don't know what was going on. I don't know. I just don't get all of the glowing reviews of this place. Granted, I only visited once and so it may have just been an off night. But I certainly didn't find anything stellar about the food or the experience. First, there's one server there that just seems exceedingly aloof and a tad rude. We got no response whenever we spoke to the server. Luckily, another server seem to be helping our table more than the other one. It was a bit confusing. I had the ginger jalapeño green beans chicken and the overriding feeling I have about this dish is that it was very oily. I'm saddened to report that New Leaf (Vietnameses) Bistro in West Seattle is, unfortunately, not vegan-friendly. I wanted so badly for It to be vegan-friendly. I wanted to become a regular. But it's not and I can't. I'll explain... I ordered a dish that should have been vegan - green beans with garlic sauce - pretty simple - but, just in case, because I've learned to be careful over the years, I made a point to ask our server to make sure that it was made vegan. She wasn't a native English speaker so we went back and forth a few times confirming and re-confirming that the dish was vegan. It's vegan, right? Yes, vegan. Vegan? Vegan. Are you sure? Yes. It's vegan. It wasn't vegan and that wasn't the biggest issue. The bigger issue was that I might not have have known that it wasn't vegan had another server not run out of the kitchen - just as I was about to take my first bite - with a replacement dish that didn't contain fish sauce. That's right. My dish was made with fish sauce, which, just in case you're keeping score at home, is not vegan. So, it's not just that they got it wrong, which they did, but that now I can't trust them not to put fish sauce on things that they believe are vegan. I can't trust that a dish that should be vegan and that I'm told is vegan is actually vegan and if I can't trust them I can't go there again. read more

This super cute family owned restaurant has many many options and great service :) Their pricing is fair as they give a good amount of food and there is always something new to try with their specials menu. So far my favorites are the oxtail pho and the combo vermicelli bowl. It's easy to order to go but there is plenty of seating inside as well. Can't wait to try everything on their menu. read more
