We had a fantastic time for our 7 year wedding anniversary! Upon arriving we gave our car to valet and made our way to the lobby where we received a glass of champagne before taking the elevator almost 50 stories up for dinner. We checked in with the host and was escorted to our table with a breathtaking view of the city! And now for the food and drink: the cocktail and wine list was more extensive than we've experienced and we were a bit overwhelmed! Lol Graciously, our waiter held our hand through it and 15 minutes later we decided on the Pornstar Martini for me and a bottle of white for hubs! (I was still nursing my champagne when I ordered my cocktail and a glass of wine ) After cocktails, we shared the meatballs and oysters for appetizers. The meatballs were very flavorful and hearty, and the sauce was amazing! The oysters were fresh and the habanero aioli was very good! It was a change from the normal mignonette and cocktail sauces offered as pairings. For dinner we had the lobster pasta and dry aged ribeye! Delicious! The deconstructed lobster over the pasta made for a unique presentation! The steak was seasoned and done to my perfect medium rare request! For dessert, we split the chocolate cake! It was so moist and decadent! The chocolate peanut butter and caramelized bananas came together very well! Stuffed, tipsy and very satisfied about 2 hours later, we ended our night! We'd like to thank our waitstaff for a beautiful evening! We got everything we could've ever wanted that night! All the staff worked well together to show us the best night and we're very grateful and hope our gratuity showed that! Now for the tips: it's nearly impossible to get a reservation during the weekend without calling in advance, because the place is packed! People flock to the bar and dining area for the experience, and rightfully so! It's amazing! If you're celebrating and want a great view, SPEAK UP! Sure they may not be able to accommodate you, but don't leave anything up to chance! Tell them why you're dining and what you want, and I'm almost positive they will work to make something happen for you. Give enough time to get to the building, park, go up and arrive to your reservation on time. The team works well together to accommodate you, but the weekends are very busy for the building which hosts more than one restaurant and a hotel. Mixed feelings. Overall, food was good not great, feels pretentious, and think it's overhyped. My husband and I are in healthcare, and were both annoyed that the servers don't wear masks with Omicron cases exploding and hospitals being full (haven't they heard the term "use your power for good"?) Seems out of touch with reality. Just being at the bar at Monarch feels like a superspreader event and a public health issue, and sets the tone for no one wearing masks... For vegetarian options, there is the squash salad which is good (squash, cheese, greens, pomegranate, green beans, balsamic), cacio e pepe, spicy rigatoni, truffle risotto, and multiple vegetarian sides (the asparagus was pretty good). We had the cacio + rigatoni, and liked the rigatoni quite a bit. We had to ask for freshly cracked black pepper. Everyone is given a glass of champagne when they first check in, and we were given an additional one because of our anniversary. This was my third time coming and the last time was the best. It wasn't as salty. Yay! But if salt is your thing, no big deal. The service is always 10/10. The restaurant is very, very noisy it was hard to hear the waiter or much less the person your talking too. The cocktail menu is odd? The meatballs were great as was the bread, just ask for butter. The risotto was the best I've ever had, off the charts. If you come I would stick with the pasta's and Italian dishes. I had the $50.00 Fiket Mignon and it had no flavor whatsoever, really odd? My date had the halibut which was Ok. For desert we had the chocolate cake which was dry and odd, the frosting was great. My date had the toffee cake which again was odd and dry? The fresh bread and butter to start was amazing. The Fritto Misto di Mare and Wood-Fired Meatballs were the best appetizers and really yummy. I loved the sauce the Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka came with. I did get the Wood-Oven Chicken which unfortunately lacked flavor - even with the sauce they come and pour on it, that dish was disappointing. Monarch is a very upscale restaurant in the same building as The Thompson Hotel. The room had a nice view of the city and it's very comfortable for a couple or a small group. Dressy style so t shirt and shorts would be out of place. Food is excellent and most dishes are shareable. We had one of the best rib steaks I've tried, and we especially enjoyed the octopus and the ravioli. Impressive wine list by the glass or bottle. We had a great night at Monarch last night. The champagne before entering the elevator is a great extra touch. In comparison to other Dallas restaurants, we gave this a 5/5. Was it among the best we've been to in Dallas? Yes. Was it among the best we've ever been to ever? No. The service was excellent. I'm vegan and they brought out hummus that had pesto on it. I didn't say anything about it but scraped it off the top. Our waiter noticed, checked with the chef that pesto is in fact non vegan, and we got a round of drinks on the house. The woman who walked us to our table was very friendly and professional and totally fit the beautiful vibe of the restaurant. My husband got oysters and the filet mignon. He really liked both. If you're vegan I wouldn't really recommend this place. I got the chickpea salad and it was ok, I'm sure with all the other toppings it would have been worth $18. This restaurant doesn't market itself as vegan though so can't hold it against them. Just wish maybe they'd add a really dope salad or a vegetable entree (not mushrooms). Everything about my experience was phenomenal aside from the wait time. I made a reservation however I believe due to it being for 8pm it was quite crowed. My self and my guest waited at the bar until our table was ready. The food was delicious, and our waiter was appropriately attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant is very romantic and upscale. I recommend for couples date nights and friend catch ups alike. I will return. Being greeted with champagne on the ground floor was also a plus. read more

Absolutely horrible, I got the Thanksgiving dinner and it came with a side of pasta with turkey leg meat that was SO salty that I could only take two bites. The stuffing was cold. Not to mention the turkey was unbelievably hard no flavor and not to mention room temp AT BEST. The worst part was the fact that we went there to have a nice Thanksgiving meal willingly paying for the experience but ended up just paying for overpriced food that I without a doubt could have had better Turkey from Dennis. This is a review for the COCKTAIL LOUNGE only. I wish it had a separate name (actually, the staff called it the "Chandelier Bar," which I really like), because you CAN just go here even if you're not eating at Monarch the restaurant. And frankly, it's a great option. The cocktail lounge menu currently posted on their website is outdated, because we ordered the octopus appetizer off the lounge menu, and it was AMAZINGLY well done. It is SO rare to find octopus that's not overcooked and rubbery. This was deliciously tender, not to mention flavorful. Another group near us ordered the artisinal cheese board with wine pairings, which looked amazing. But the octopus alone convinced me that I need to come back and eat at proper Monarch, because apparently there is actually substance under all that glitz and glam. The drinks at the cocktail lounge were okay. If you love drinks that taste like floral sugar water, try the Tia Flora. This is NOT my cup of tea, and I liked the Spicy Lady much better, but the Spicy Lady goes almost a bit too far to the other extreme, with so much spice that my mouth was burning after each sip. My boyfriend had The Sovereign, their version of an Old-Fashioned, and it was phenomenal. For his second drink, he wasn't really feeling anything else on the menu, so our waitress encouraged him to order off-menu. She said they can do "any" drink, so he asked for a white negroni...and received a regular negroni. It was fine, but it wasn't what he ordered. Is it possible the bartenders here don't know what a white negroni is...? I mean, I wouldn't expect every bartender at every bar to know that, but at a place where you're charging $20 per drink and claiming you can make "anything," then yeah, I'd expect them to be able to make anything. Overall, four stars for the octopus, the ambiance, and the hilarious people-watching. They lost a star for their cocktails, which don't stand up to the quality of the rest of the place. P.S. Can we also talk about how their bathrooms are horribly inadequately small for the massive space?? The restaurant wraps around the whole floor (ask for a view on the downtown side!) and even goes up to a second floor. Three stalls for the women's room is not cutting it, especially when women are dawdling taking selfies in the stall on the end, which has a full floor-to-ceiling window. read more

James had the most balanced approach to know when to visit the table, see any progressive opportunities, and executed quietly / quickly. The food presentation / quality was astutely fantastic and should be in national travel magazines for others nationally to see "what 'Dallas' right looks like." We came here to celebrate our Anniversary and Oh My My!! We loved it!! Our waiter Ryan was very attentive and explained the menu very well. The staff over all is excellent and they make sure you have refills on your drinks when needed. All the cocktails we ordered were great. Everything that we ordered as shown on these pictures was cooked perfectly and with such great flavor !!! We pretty much shared everything that we ordered and enjoyed everything! Four people asked us if we were celebrating something in the first five minutes after our arrival. No one seems to pass along information. Ushered into a VERY noisy little green painted back room... past many open tables with window views. One guest continued to be brought his cocktail... twice... after he did not re-order it. We had our anniversary dinner here. The service was pretty good. I was very impressed with the Staff's menu knowledge - even the food runners. We definitely felt rushed (which is somewhat understandable for a professional kitchen with timed courses waiting on us); it could have been handled in a more professional and kind manner though. The Black Manhattan was very delicious but didn't have a luxardo cherry. The filet mignon was tender but way overcooked. The mushrooms with toasted garlic and hazelnut were great. The homemade pastas as sides are a great option - beware - they are rich! I enjoyed the Bolognese thoroughly. The bread and truffle ricotta was a really nice touch. I tried calling this business for 3 days leading up to our reservation - no one ever answered. It would ring and ring and ring. That was disappointing because it meant they didn't know we wanted a window table. Truthfully, it was a good meal but it wasn't to the level of experience I would expect for a high end establishment. I've had way better experiences at Nick and Sam's or the now closed Wolfgang Puck 567. A couple things to note - they have free valet; they welcome you with a champagne toast; and it's a fun view of West and South Dallas. read more
