My husband and I are in healthcare, and were both annoyed that the servers don't wear masks with Omicron cases exploding and hospitals being full (haven't they heard the term "use your power for good"?) Seems out of touch with reality. Just being at the bar at Monarch feels like a superspreader event and a public health issue, and sets the tone for no one wearing masks... For vegetarian options, there is the squash salad which is good (squash, cheese, greens, pomegranate, green beans, balsamic), cacio e pepe, spicy rigatoni, truffle risotto, and multiple vegetarian sides (the asparagus was pretty good). We had the cacio + rigatoni, and liked the rigatoni quite a bit. We had to ask for freshly cracked black pepper. Everyone is given a glass of champagne when they first check in, and we were given an additional one because of our anniversary. Then, there's the stupid menu for those that don't get to eat at nice restaurants very often. Prepare to be gauged like you have never been gauged before. The short version is that the food is way, way overpriced, and the preparation is not to the level this place tries to be. Be careful catching on too quickly. Had a family dinner for 5 here last weekend. Husband ordered the bone-in ribeye which was excellent. Exactly the right seasoning, perfect fat content in the cut, juicy and just beautifully executed. Daughter and I had the filet mignon. Also delicious, though the exterior was a bit salty on the filet. However, it was VERY tender. Meat quality is not in question at all! Our son had the meatballs and he asks us everyday if we can come back to Monarch "tomorrow". We ordered the Black Truffle Risotto as a side. Also quite salty. Could have done without it, actually. For drinks we had the Diamond Noir and it was almost like an unexpected twist to my favorite, the Old Fashioned. We both enjoyed it. We had the Carpaccio for the appetizer. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. This may sound crazy but the bread that came with the Carpaccio is the thing I can't stop thinking about. I want that bread. Right. Now. The service was as exemplary. We had to wait some time for a table despite having a reservation, but they were very aware of our situation! The hostess remained keen and informed us when a party was vacating an "unreserved" table at the bar. She saw we had kids so she had it cleaned immediately and made sure to rush us into it before someone else called dibs. That way our whole family could sit at a table to wait in the bar area. I ordered a drink but they had us seated within seconds after that and they seamlessly had my drink transferred to our dining table. They were attentive throughout our meal. They checked on us consistently enough, things arrived timely, and they cleared our table, placing clean plates and utensils after every course. At the start, when we ordered drinks, they cleared our wine glasses to make room as soon as they knew we wouldn't need them. Water came refilled. Check came promptly after our Tiramisu dessert. This was my third time coming and the last time was the best. It wasn't as salty. Yay! But if salt is your thing, no big deal. The service is always 10/10. I had no problems being seated on time for my reservation. I think we were a little early. I will most definitely keep coming back because the food is delish and complex. The restaurant is very, very noisy it was hard to hear the waiter or much less the person your talking too. The cocktail menu is odd? The meatballs were great as was the bread, just ask for butter. The risotto was the best I've ever had, off the charts. If you come I would stick with the pasta's and Italian dishes. I had the $50.00 Fiket Mignon and it had no flavor whatsoever, really odd? My date had the halibut which was Ok. For desert we had the chocolate cake which was dry and odd, the frosting was great. My date had the toffee cake which again was odd and dry? Our Server Mike was great & his detailed descriptions of the items really steered us in the Right direction. The Wagyu carpaccio was one of the most flavorful dish I think I've ever had. If you need a nice place to celebrate, this is such a beautiful spot. The champagne to welcome us to our table and Dallas city views were instant winners. We had a great night at Monarch last night. The champagne before entering the elevator is a great extra touch. In comparison to other Dallas restaurants, we gave this a 5/5. Was it among the best we've been to in Dallas? Yes. Was it among the best we've ever been to ever? No. The service was excellent. I'm vegan and they brought out hummus that had pesto on it. I didn't say anything about it but scraped it off the top. Our waiter noticed, checked with the chef that pesto is in fact non vegan, and we got a round of drinks on the house. The woman who walked us to our table was very friendly and professional and totally fit the beautiful vibe of the restaurant. My husband got oysters and the filet mignon. He really liked both. If you're vegan I wouldn't really recommend this place. I got the chickpea salad and it was ok, I'm sure with all the other toppings it would have been worth $18. This restaurant doesn't market itself as vegan though so can't hold it against them. Just wish maybe they'd add a really dope salad or a vegetable entree (not mushrooms). I had heard about Monarch though family and friends for a long time. I finally got the chance to go for a business dinner. Upon arrival, the hotel provides you with a glass of champagne. A short ride up the elevator and you are introduced to the most stunning views of downtown Dallas. We were seated right away and the decor was beautiful. I loved every item of food. From the pasta to the seafood everything was yummy. The desert was to die for. Our waiters were very helpful and we had a wonderful time. Best lasagna outside of a tiny Italian town. Now the reason for the 3 stars. As soon as we finished the lasagna, the waitstaff brought over our dessert menu. We thought at this point, I guess we don't need the steak. We asked our server and they had not yet fired the steak (probably forgot to put it in) so no big deal. We then ordered the Basil Pana Cotta. Since we pre-paid for the window seat, we had to hit our $200 pre-paid minimum, which we were short of because they forgot the steak. So instead we ordered a bottle of wine to go (they didn't have our first selection, so I had them recommend an alt). The server told us we still had not hit the $200, so I ordered another vesper martini. The server did not inform us that in fact, this put us over our pre-paid $200. Before gratuity. At this point not only did we not get the meal we wanted but felt like they were "nickel and dimming" us into ordering more things that were unnecessary. Will we be back again? Probably. This is a review for the COCKTAIL LOUNGE only. I wish it had a separate name (actually, the staff called it the "Chandelier Bar," which I really like), because you CAN just go here even if you're not eating at Monarch the restaurant. And frankly, it's a great option. The cocktail lounge menu currently posted on their website is outdated, because we ordered the octopus appetizer off the lounge menu, and it was AMAZINGLY well done. It is SO rare to find octopus that's not overcooked and rubbery. This was deliciously tender, not to mention flavorful. Another group near us ordered the artisinal cheese board with wine pairings, which looked amazing. But the octopus alone convinced me that I need to come back and eat at proper Monarch, because apparently there is actually substance under all that glitz and glam. The drinks at the cocktail lounge were okay. If you love drinks that taste like floral sugar water, try the Tia Flora. This is NOT my cup of tea, and I liked the Spicy Lady much better, but the Spicy Lady goes almost a bit too far to the other extreme, with so much spice that my mouth was burning after each sip. My boyfriend had The Sovereign, their version of an Old-Fashioned, and it was phenomenal. For his second drink, he wasn't really feeling anything else on the menu, so our waitress encouraged him to order off-menu. She said they can do "any" drink, so he asked for a white negroni...and received a regular negroni. It was fine, but it wasn't what he ordered. Is it possible the bartenders here don't know what a white negroni is...? I mean, I wouldn't expect every bartender at every bar to know that, but at a place where you're charging $20 per drink and claiming you can make "anything," then yeah, I'd expect them to be able to make anything. Overall, four stars for the octopus, the ambiance, and the hilarious people-watching. They lost a star for their cocktails, which don't stand up to the quality of the rest of the place. P.S. Can we also talk about how their bathrooms are horribly inadequately small for the massive space?? The restaurant wraps around the whole floor (ask for a view on the downtown side!) and even goes up to a second floor. Three stalls for the women's room is not cutting it, especially when women are dawdling taking selfies in the stall on the end, which has a full floor-to-ceiling window. read more

We had our anniversary dinner here. The service was pretty good. I was very impressed with the Staff's menu knowledge - even the food runners. We definitely felt rushed (which is somewhat understandable for a professional kitchen with timed courses waiting on us); it could have been handled in a more professional and kind manner though. The Black Manhattan was very delicious but didn't have a luxardo cherry. The filet mignon was tender but way overcooked. The mushrooms with toasted garlic and hazelnut were great. The homemade pastas as sides are a great option - beware - they are rich! I enjoyed the Bolognese thoroughly. The bread and truffle ricotta was a really nice touch. I tried calling this business for 3 days leading up to our reservation - no one ever answered. It would ring and ring and ring. That was disappointing because it meant they didn't know we wanted a window table. Truthfully, it was a good meal but it wasn't to the level of experience I would expect for a high end establishment. I've had way better experiences at Nick and Sam's or the now closed Wolfgang Puck 567. Can't praise Monarch enough! Our experience and expectations were beyond exceeded! We booked our reservation a few weeks in advance to cap off our Anniversary vacation in Dallas. We paid the deposit to guarantee a window table and it was totally worth it. We set our reservation for 7:45pm for the sunset and it did not disappoint. Getting to watch Dallas sunset and the city light up as it got dark was an incredible experience When we arrived we were greeted in the lobby with champagne before we took our elevator ride to the 49th floor. They had staff to operate the elevator doors and buttons (overkill? Maybe. But a nice touch). We were promptly walked through the restaurant and seated at our table. We started with some wine and complimented bread and accompaniments. For our appetizer course we tried the meatballs and they were delicious. Next we chose to split a Caesar salad and it was one of the best we've ever had. For our main course my wife had the Herb Ricotta Anolini and I had the 18oz Bone-in Filet. At our request the sommelier came and suggested a pairing for my steak. His suggestion was greatly appreciated. We opted to skip dessert. Our waiter Victor as well as all of the other staff were extremely professional. In my opinion you get the quality and treatment that you should for this elevated restaurant. My honest opinion is Monarch was just an okay experience. I would suggested going once for the experience. We ordered a few different dishes to share. The only two worth mentioning are the tiger prawns and the oyster mushrooms! I really enjoyed eating both of those. Our waiter was fine until another couple was seated next to us. They were upset that they were in the corner, and not at a window table. As soon as they started complaining we were completely forgotten about for a long time. However, there was a curly haired girl who made sure our table was always clean and that our water cups were full. She was a hard worker! read more
