Gorgeous restaurant with great service. We had dinner at 7:00 PM on a Sunday evening and were able to find parking right up front. We were seated in a booth in the dark, intimate dining room. We started with cocktails: the Hugo Spritz and Root Beer Old Fashioned. For canapés, we ordered the Lobster Roll, Toasted Brioche with Fennel Salad, and the Grilled Cheese with Truffled Cheddar (without the prosciutto). The grilled cheese was really good, and I only wish it had been slightly bigger. We were also given a complimentary bitter melon bite with crème, which was surprisingly good. For appetizers, we ordered the Corn and Truffle Beignets with Chive Crème Fraîche, which were good. For my entrée, I had the Truffle Scarpinocc with ricotta, toasted hazelnuts, and honey. It was delicious, with a lemon ricotta filling and a rich yet light sauce. I was also given complimentary shaved black truffle on top. The portion consisted of six ravioli, which initially seemed small, but it left me feeling full and satisfied. For a side, we shared the Pommes Aligot, which were essentially cheesy mashed potatoes and very good. For dessert, we had the Chocolate Gateau with Caffè Latte Gelato. This was one of my most memorable dining experiences of 2025. We dined here last December as our friends introduced us to this splendid establishment. The interior has such charm(former bank vault) and exudes charisma and tasteful flare. After being seated, I proceeded to place my order, which consisted of their Beets and Burrata Salad as my starter. Went here on a Saturday night and omg... so good. The space has darker lighting so it leans more romantic but it's also a great spot for a nice dinner with friends. The bar area was super crowded, we didn't sit there but I've heard it's award-winning. Also, the chandelier inside is really pretty and adds to the whole vibe. For food, I got the seared diver scallops and wow, melt in your mouth, so flavorful, just really, really yum! My friend got the tandoori spiced swordfish and liked it a lot too. We also shared the roasted maitake mushrooms as a side, which were great, and my friend tried a non-alcoholic wine and i got a mocktail, both were good options. Mister Charles is the fourth Duro restaurant that I have tried. I made reservations to try it on a whim with a friend. This is without a doubt 'thee' special occasion restaurant. The moment you walk in there's muted opulence everywhere both beautiful and inviting. I started with the Blue Velvet, a delicious gin and blueberry drink that's not too sweet. We ordered three Canapés: grilled cheese, lobster, and A5. The grilled cheese is a must try! There is so much umami packed in a little bite. The A5 wagyu was a solid second best. The lobster bread was rough, and the claw meat was overshadowed by celery. Next, we tried the beignets and bluefin. The bluefin was nice, especially if you like citrus. The beignets are popular for a reason, another must try item. Next, we ordered the truffle bucatini. I'm always impressed with Duro pastas. If you want a light entree, try the scallops. Every bite was heavenly. Between the sauce and the pomegranate it's a well thought out dish. We ended with the Baked Alaska and Chocolate Gateau. We were on the wait list for a few weeks for valentines but we're lucky enough to get a spot right as they opened on Valentine's Day! The service here was incredible. We had several people servicing our table and my water glass was never empty. We constantly had someone stop by the table to ask how we were doing. They also gave each table a rose which I thought was such a nice touch for Valentine's Day. The standout menu items for me were the corn truffle beignet and the caviar chicken nuggets for appetizers. We had a very nice dinner here for my in-law's anniversary! Eric R. made reservations and we got in for 5:45 PM. It was already a very busy restaurant when we arrived a few minutes early. Our server Peter was great and very helpful with our questions. He brought out champagne on the house for us to cheers the anniversary couple. Eric R. and his dad got the Highland Park Pharmacy Penicillin cocktail, and I got a class of rose prosecco. My mother-in-law was not sure about drinking anything, but Peter brought her a little rose prosecco to try too. For canapes, Eric R. got the lobster roll. He joked we must have had our table bugged because every time we talked about a menu item, it seemed to come out for us to try on the house. Peter brought four grilled cheese canapes, but I declined because I do not eat pork and it has prosciutto, He sent one without prosciutto for me to try! For appetizers, we shared the corn and truffle beignets and Little Gem Caesar salad. Eric R.'s mom got the beef carpaccio but declined to share. For my meal, I ordered two appetizer menu items: the Spanish octopus and the hamachi crudo. Eric R. ordered the short rib wellington to share with his parents, who also got the scallops and the fusilli pasta with caviar. I was able to try a half scallop and some pasta, which were very delicious! We didn't have a reservation, but were able to snag seats at the small bar tucked inside the smaller dining room. With only four seats, it felt almost like having our own personal bartender. We let the bartender choose our drinks, asking for something sweet and cute, and he absolutely nailed it. We started with canapés--literally one bite each, but just enough to set the tone for the meal. The corn and truffle beignets were very filling, though a touch heavy on the crème fraîche base. The Spanish octopus was the standout of the night--so tender I don't even remember chewing. The crab cake was fresh with great flavor, but we paced ourselves to save room for dessert. Moved to Dallas & scouted out all the Michelin recommended restaurants. Friends suggested Mister Charles. It's date night, we absolutely starving and ended up ordering a feast, and every single dish was worth it. We started with nearly all of the canapés (no chicken nuggets, haha). The Chilled Oysters with Strawberry Ponzu and Finger Lime were bright and refreshing, the Grilled Cheese with Truffled Cheddar and Prosciutto was decadent, the Ossetra Caviar & Egg Salad on Brioche felt luxurious, the Lobster Roll canapé was deliciously buttery, and the A5 Striploin on Brioche with Wasabi was melt-in-your-mouth good. Honestly, the canapés alone make this place worth visiting! For entrées, we shared the Beef Wellington, Whole Red Snapper Milanese, Tzatziki & Carrot Salad, and the lobster/uni pasta (can't remember the exact name, but it was incredible). Everything was beautifully seasoned, cooked perfectly, and plated with so much intention. I'm usually very critical when it comes to expensive fine dining - Mister Charles definitely delivered and we had a 11/10 experience here. Off the bat, the restaurant itself is beautiful. Great decor and super friendly & accommodating staff. They definitely go out of the way to make you feel special and valued. The food, also spectacular. I loved the octopus, perfectly tender, but still with a bite and seasoned perfectly along with the patatas bravas it comes with. The beef Wellington was of course the star here. I saw almost every table around me order it, I assume it's their specialty. Mine came out with almost no pink, which some people might not prefer, but I had no problem with it. It was perfectly tender and juicy and the pastry was so perfectly flaky. The duxelles was so flavorful too. The cesar was good, but not sure i would get it again. Friends brought me here for one of my several dinners during my last visit to Texas during Christmas time last year. After we checked in with the hostess, I marveled at the intricate and classic interior. I was told that this building had been a bank, prior to being converted, and I could see the details that made it a bank in its previous life. The previous night I went to my old favorite restaurant Truluck's, and this blew it out of the water on all fronts -- food, service, ambiance, and value! Karah was the best server I have had in a long time. She went above and beyond in taking care of us, from her warmth and enthusiasm to the recommendations that she gave us for what to order. All three members of our party felt like absolute royalty! We started with 3 canapés -- Caviar and Egg Salad, A5 Striploin, and Lobster Roll -- and the first one I could maybe eat every day for the rest of my life. Then we had the Crab Cake and Corn and Truffle Beignets, and although I definitely tend to prefer a dish like the former over the latter, the latter blew me away and I can't imagine doing the meal without it! One of the members in our party mentioned that she wished she got the Chicken Nugget and Caviar canapé, so Karah worked to get an order of three for our table on the house. Not only was that such a kind and thoughtful action, but it was easily the best chicken nugget I have ever had and one of the best things I've eaten in a long time! Then for the main course Karah recommended the Texas Wagyu Short Rib Wellington for us to share, and when it got to the table I realized why it was recommended to share -- it was huge! Not only was it the best beef dish I've had in a long time, but at $97 to feed three people the value for dollar was incredible. I wish this review were about the food, because it was good. However, it's over a month later and our only memory of our experience at Mister Charles was the table they initially sat us at. Granted, we only sat there for a minute before we asked to move, but starting off your meal at a place that is supposed to be so excellent feeling like you are being pranked or punished, is demoralizing. Just look at the photo. You're each sitting backwards at someone else's table and can't hear your dinner partner over the diner's at the table behind/beside you. It's bananas. The only rational conclusion we could draw is that we did something to make someone angry, because it is obvious to anyone (including our server who agreed) that it is a terrible table location. Overall I really did love our experience here but a few things that could use improvement. Started with a cosmopolitan martini and it was one of the most well balanced cosmos I've ever had! For appetizers we got a couple of amuse buches but was disappointed as they were clearly not made fresh and had been sitting out and were cold. Definitely minus one star for that. We had a 9 PM reservation and we were seated by 9:15. We decided on ordering a bottle of wine from the sommelier, we ordered the bottle from him. Our sever came back and we ordered a starter. About 20-25 minutes later our starter arrived and we still didnt have our wine. Our server asked us what we wanted to drink and we said we ordered a bottle of wine and she said she was going to check on it. About 5 minutes later the wine arrived and we were done with our starter. Our server then came back to take our dinner order which felt weird since we had finished our starter. We ordered a pasta, and then meat and sides. About 25 minutes later our meat and side arrived but no pasta. At this point we didnt even really want the pasta after our entrees. The manager came over with our pasta and said sorry about the wait, I am taking care of this for you all. We got some of our food boxed and our server came over and asked if we wanted dessert and refilled our wine but didnt take the empty plates sitting at our table which was weird. We also refilled our bottle of wine several times on our own. Finally we ordered dessert and we were waiting 20 minutes (last people on our side of the restaurant) and our server turned the corner and saw the dessert was not there and we were going to say something and she hurried to the kitchen and a few minutes later our dessert was out. This is not a Michelin experience with the service we had and minimal acknowledgement from our server about all the delays and misses. Wellington- cooked well, could have been a little more rare. The carpaccio was incredibly fresh and the canapés were the perfect little bites to start the meal. For dinner we had the beef Wellington with the cheesy mashed potatoes, which were both fantastic. The Wellington was cooked perfectly and the pastry was delicate and crisp. We paired everything with a great Chablis and a Ketel One martini with blue cheese olives which was exactly what I wanted. The service really stood out. Our group had to add two extra guests about an hour before our reservation and they handled it without any issue at all. Highly recommend! To drink: crime of passion cocktail was a fun take on mezcal aperol spritz; also enjoyed the jaded muse (although this was very sweet, like a jolly rancher!) Dessert: we finished with the banana baked Alaska (amazing but only if you love banana), the pillow mint espresso martini, soda fountain sundae, and chocolate gateau (could be a skip because the other desserts are amazing!) Mister Charles is an elegant Dallas restaurant in the Knox Henderson neighborhood. It's located in the famous Highland Park Soda Fountain building. @themistercharles Everything about this spot is elevated including the food, cocktails, service and even the staff uniforms. The bartender's uniforms make you feel like you're James Bond stepping up to the bar at a black tie event before some serious spy action is about to go down. The design transports you to a 5 star experience in Paris. The owners are exceptional when it comes to design. They're the same guys behind Sister in Lower Greenville and The Charles in Design District. We popped in for a nightcap after dinner and enjoyed some of their signature recipes. I tried the Root Beer Old Fashioned which was tasty and did not hide the root beer flavor. There was no mistaking it. I also tried their Penicillin and it was fantastic. We continue to find ourselves coming back to Mister Charles for delicious food, drinks, and a beautiful atmosphere. Everything we've eaten here has always been delicious, and I love seeing their seasonal specials and dishes. It's also a beautiful bar and dining room to enjoy. Not only is this a wonderful fine dining experience, the service is always outstanding. The staff is attentive and always offering a "happy anniversary" or "congratulations" when we come in to celebrate something. It is one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas, and we will keep coming back! read more
