I visited Tango room last night for my boyfriends birthday. Unfortunately my experience wasn't what I was expecting, pretty disappointed since I had really high hopes for it. Don't get me wrong the food was amazing! The service was not. It was slow from start to finish & did not like how our server was not attentive or engaging at all. As it for being a special occasion I expected a basic level of attentiveness but ended up feeling overlooked the entire night. Service matters just as much & this experience didn't live up to the expectations I had in mind. They didn't walk us through the menu or offer any recommendations, which you'd expect at a place like this especially when it's your first time or you're there for a special occasion. It's a bit hidden, so look for the sign on the wall. This is a very intimate restaurant environment when you walk in. It is great for date nights and special occasions, and has that vibe. It was cooked correctly but didn't have much flavor. We ended with the peanut butter dessert which was the most amazing dessert I've EVER had. I am still thinking about that dessert to this day. What an exquisite dining experience from start to finish. This place has been on the radar for quite some time and I'm glad that we were finally able to go to celebrate a special night. From the moment we arrived, we knew we were going to love this place. Our waiter, George, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu when we asked for recommendations. We ended up ordering the caviar chicken bites along with the lobster corndogs for starters and a couple of drinks. For our entrees, we ended up splitting the Denver steak with wild mushrooms and the pappardelle Bolognese. When I tell you that the steak was just absolute perfection, I mean it. I haven't had a steak that melt-in-your-mouth since an omakase experience in D.C. We of course ended the meal with the peanut butter bar, which again was another perfect bite of food. It was sweet, rich, creamy, salty, had peanuts for crunch and was just all around delicious. Probably one of my absolute favorite things about this place (other than the food and our lovely waiter, of course) was the fact that we did not feel rushed at all! This place is an absolute gem. I found it looking at the 10 best trendy places in Dallas. The ambience is somewhat mysterious with red leather booths each with a great view of the bar. As he come through the curtain, you see and beautiful dining room with soft music and the smell of great food. Wayne was our waiter. He went through the menu and the specials in a very detailed manner describing the smells and tastes of each dish. The food may not be unique, but the dishes are extremely unique, topped with caviar, king crab, perfectly cooked and presented. The cocktails were marvelous and the wine list expensive ranging from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. They even serve Dom by the glass! A chef's table can seat in roughly 8 maybe 10 people in an oval bench seat that gives you visibility to the kitchen and the pass. Several sauces are available as a supplement. I honestly just like it the way it's seasoned without any additional sauces. It has that unctuous nutty flavor that comes from a good dry-age. * Pork Chop - grilled bone-in and pre sliced - so tender. The steak tartare was one of the best I've had--they add something in it to give it an occasional crunch inside, and it's so savory and refreshing at the same time. Lobster Corn Dogs were shockingly good. Burrata, Shrimp Cocktail, and deviled Eggs were delicious! The frutti di mare pasta was every bit as amazing as hyped up to be! It is strangely not on the menu, but is something the waiters have to tell you about. Service overall was good and efficient, but our waiter was kind of weird and kept dictating what we ordered. We each wanted to order our own food and not do things family style, as we told him clearly, but he kept driving our appetizers to be family style. And then most oddly, he kept forgetting dishes we ordered like the deviled Eggs and someone's pasta. When I asked him where my Foie Gras was that I had ordered, he told me I couldn't afford it. The Prosecco isn't something they have on their wine menu it's something we specifically asked for, and that feels like a money grab since the menu just has champagne options even though they offer prosecco. Also our waiters "recommendations" were all the expensive items *eye roll* For apps we got the foie gras and oysters. Both really great. The oyster were fresh and from the east coast and came with some great sauces. For dinner we ordered the cacio e pepe, filet mignon, lobster Mac & cheese and Brussel sprouts. The cacio e pepe had way too much lemon. I'm not sure why you're putting any lemon at all to begin with. For the filet, it was cooked medium rare as we had asked but they asked if we wanted it sliced and we said yes and I felt the presentation was messy. Also we paid $8 for a side of truffle butter and like omg who on earth is going to use that much butter. Charge half and give half. The lobster Mac and cheese was good. The Brussel sprouts were tasty but quite oily. The peanut butter bar for dessert was good. I ordered the Goodfellow, which was an amazing whiskey cocktail with a perfect large ice cube. I believe the ice was hand cut. We got a few apps. The foie gras stood out as the best appetizer with a perfect sear and a rich buttery texture. We ordered a few steaks, which we had served family style. We ordered a ribeye, a strip, and the lamb rack. Each of these had a great sear and cooked to the perfect temperature. Be ready for a lot of butter.. The mashed potatos were also very buttery and velvety. We ordered a variety of desserts, including the chocolate cake, the carrot cake, and the peanut butter bar. Then I started with the sesame salad which was basically a wedge with a creamy sesame dressing. Just OK. Ordered the roasted chicken as my main and it was salty AF. The broccolini was just OK. And I didn't try any other sides. Another reminder why I usually stick to the local restaurants that have been around for decades. Similar experience like carbone/vino next door (and 99% of these types of restaurants). You may leave hungry or thirsty from over-salted food but you paid $$ for some decent ambiance. read more

What a let down. The vibe is intimate and very cute but the food was definitely a disappointment. We started with the lobster corn dogs and the beet salad-both just ok at best. We got the bread-which came out burnt. We then got the bolognese pasta, dry-aged Kansas steak, the lobster Mac and cheese, and the Brussels sprouts. The best thing we ate was probably the Brussels sprouts...the mac and cheese was too salty and everything else was just overpriced and so-so. Throughout the night, the service was pretty slow (took probably 30 mins to get appetizers) but the most disappointing moment came during dessert. All around us, families and couples were getting cakes and amuse bouches for their celebrations but we received nothing despite letting the restaurant know we were celebrating a birthday. Tango Room is truly a hidden gem in the Design District. There's plenty of parking and free valet. The inside is dark and intimate with trendy artwork and great 80s soul music playing. It feels fancy without feeling pretentious. The food was pretty spectacular! For appetizers, my hubby and I got the steak tartare, which was perfectly seasoned and fresh with a kind of olive oil finish, and the tuna carpaccio that has A LOT of complex flavors to complement the fish. We enjoyed the bolognese as a pasta course and it was a tremendous medley of lamb, beef, and pork that was dressed with a dollop of burrata over housemade noodles. For entrees we had the filet and the pork chop with one of their signature sauces. My husband's only complaints were that his steak wasn't piping hot and that it was sliced. he still said it was very good. The pork chop (I ordered it well done instead of the suggested medium) was huge and the sauce, although a little on the salty side, was very complimentary. I wish I remembered what it was called but I do remember it being brownish and having cherry tomatoes in it. We also had the duck fried rice as a side. Dim lighting, the service 10 out of 10, the weight staff was so great. I love that they were interacting with us, making witty comments, recommending great food, and checking in on us. The food, so so so so so good (sorry not being dramatic). We got the Kansas steak and seafood linguine (not on the menu). Our waiter recommended it and I'm so glad he did.
