This is a really cool bar on top the Tru by Hilton Hotel which features awesome views of the Dallas Skyline. Upon exiting the elevator you are transported inside the Monkey Bar. It's a beautifully done bar. Not more than half a dozen tables. The countertop at the bar is long and very intimate. You wouldn't think much of this bar until you step outside. It's breathtaking, with views of Dallas at every turn. I wish my time in Dallas had allowed for more of the Monkey Bar. I was not able to visit at night, but I was staying at the hotel and every night seen large groups of good looking people coming in and out of here. Definitely on my list of places to visit next time I'm in Dallas. read more

I have always loved the Monkey Bar in Highland Park Village, and have heard about this location being opened for months now so I decided to give it a try on July 4th! Amazing! It is truly such a great location with a beautiful view of the Dallas skyline. The restaurant is gorgeous- very nicely decorated! Didn't get to see much of the inside, but the outside bar area is huge! Tons of seating, lots of room, a bunch of outside TV's to watch the recent FIFA games, and really a great view all around, not just on one side! I didn't catch our servers name but she was incredibly nice and very attentive. At some points, a couple other servers would come to check on us as well and ask if we needed anything! Great experience honestly, and I'm picky!!! Haha! I ordered a few glasses of wine, my boyfriend had their margaritas, and we also ordered some chips and salsa (which was also very good, and I always love when I can tell they put in freshly sliced avocado- none of that old stuff!!!) I did see a review that said they could add a few more umbrellas to the couch areas and I 1000% agree. We moved maybe 10 minutes in to the shaded high top area because we know that Texas sun ain't no joke!! Other than that, great spot. Good food. Good service. I was not disappointed. Just opened! This place is new and popular! Complementary valet parking when you pull in. Lobby staff are friendly and kind. Head up to the 9th floor and you find beautiful decor, floor to ceiling windows, and an immaculate rooftop. The left side of the patio looks like a cruise ship deck with a large fire pit and seating, the center has a covered patio, and the right side has arranged couches and open seating area. We had the Topo Chico and mini tacos. They were delicious, tasted fresh! The service was fantastic. This place has a great vibe. We'll be back for sure! read more

While I was sitting at a table with my friends, minding my own business, an older woman sitting next to me reached behind me, grabbed me by my sides with both hands, and told me to get out of my seat so her friend could sit where I was. Yes, she actually put her hands on me. There was an open stool at the other end of their table that her friend could have used, and I politely pointed that out. Instead of respecting my personal space and the fact that I was also a paying customer at a public bar, she chose to physically grab me and yell at me to move. That is completely unacceptable and incredibly immature. I turned around completely shocked. No customer should ever be touched by another customer over a seat. An employee witnessed the entire interaction and did nothing. I eventually spoke with the manager, and when I went back to the office, the man who was with the woman who grabbed me walked out of the manager's office. Whether they knew each other or not, it certainly gave that impression and made me question whether the situation was being handled fairly. I also pointed out to the manager that he was with the woman who had grabbed me, but nothing was done to address the situation. The bar gave me a free drink, but that wasn't the issue. The issue was that another customer physically grabbed me, and nothing meaningful was done about it. No one should have to worry about being touched by a stranger in a place where they're supposed to feel safe and welcome. I never expected to leave feeling so uncomfortable at a bar I genuinely enjoyed. Unfortunately, because of how this was handled, I don't feel comfortable returning. read more

Not what you are expecting on top of the TRU Hotel, but it is what you are expecting from Mi Cocina-Monkey Bar! The hotel staff from valet to lobby are very friendly and helpful to start...Much larger space than the Highland Park Monkey with a downtown and sunset view from the Margaret Hunt bridges to downtown to design district and Market Center...its a serious rooftop view that only Stemmons could offer honestly... Its new and very busy, we went on a Saturday, but service was very gracious and attentive considering we were near standing room only with what looked like a private event also going on by the outdoor mambo bar. The menu is a little smaller than HPV but the food is delicious! We had the street tacos and nachos while drinking down the Mambos!! Came here with two of my girlfriends after leaving another spot due to dress code drama, and let me just say, Monkey Bar understood the assignment. The vibes were vibing from the minute we walked in. The music was on point, the crowd was mostly mid-20s to early 30s, and the overall energy was fun but chill. Not too wild, not too quiet. We started at the bar where I ordered a vodka water with lime, cucumber, and mint (refreshing and light!), and my friend got the piña: I don't know everything that's in it, but they torch the pineapple garnish and sprinkle some kind of seasoning on it that adds a serious wow factor. We were seated soon after ordering drinks and decided to grab some food. Just a heads up: it's mostly small bites/app-style plates. We ordered the mini tacos and nachos. Both were a little on the bland side but still satisfying enough to hold us over. The rooftop is super spacious with plenty of seating and standing areas, making it great for mingling or just kicking back. Overall, this place came through when we needed a vibe reset. I'm going to make this as short as possible. The view is amazing. The vibe is a 10/10. The drinks were good, but the food was disgusting. My friend and I got the beef nachos, and she compared it to movie theater food. The service was pretty bad. Our waitress wasn't kind but she did her job. Paying threw me off though. When we paid, she said 20% gratuity was mandatory but it wasn't already on the checks. After we paid, she took card reader to hit the 20% tip and made us sign. I have never seen that before. It's not a terrible place but I wouldn't return. read more
