Nestled downstairs of The Joule in Downtown Dallas, Midnight Rambler is the not so secret speakeasy that everyone loves. The doormen and bouncers were all so sweet. I frequented here during my days working in the area and it seems to still live up to its potential. It was my first time visiting on a Saturday and although it was pretty packed, our server took care of us and our cocktail orders seamlessly. Shoutout to the cocktail that was recommended by our server (I'm kicking myself for not taking a picture of the Pokémon themed menu). I don't remember the name but it was a Peach flavored vodka cocktail that came with a peach flavored sour candy. It was scrumptious! Perfect addition to the palette. I didn't want to drink anything else! The only change I'd make was to have a diverse range in music choices. We were there for an hour and wanted to hear something different from the techno mix the DJ was enjoying. read more

My friends and I were blown away by the service here! We were celebrating a birthday and all the staff made our time there feel really special. Jade was a GREAT server and went above and beyond for us- from drink questions to food preparation, she was ON IT. Speaking of; the drinks and food were AMAZING! The Parmesan-crusted grilled cheese was to die for. The drinks were exceptional; we all loved the cocktails (especially the Peachy Perspective) and shots. I definitely wouldn't call this a speakeasy, just a small underground bar with a peculiar smell. The entrance is very obvious although the hotel lobby itself is beautiful. You do feel like you're transported to another world, but it's an overcrowded one. The staff were friendly but, all they had in the women's bathroom was hand lotion. I'm not sure if it was the lack of air circulation but we didn't stay long at all. read more

We wanted to experience a downtown bar while we were visiting Dallas. Our searching brought us to a small bar called the Midnight Rambler. It was nice and cozy and much more comfortable than some of the more popular ones. We were excited to see that the current drinks were 'Pokemon' themed. We had the Peachy Perspective and the 11. The Peachy Perspective had a nice flavor to it. It reminded me of a good peach flavor that wasn't too sweet or overwhelming. The 11 was definitely a nice change. The flavors were nice and it was served frozen. We would have loved to try others but we didn't have time. A great place to try. They gave us custom 'pokemon' cards that matched our orders. We had a great time and would love to visit again. read more

I was in the area with my husband so we decided to checkout this cocktail bar. We got there around 8pm and the bar pretty packed, we got lucky that there was one seat available at the bar and the couple that was next to it left after about 5 minutes so my husband didn't have to stand next to me the whole time. We had 2 rounds but I got distracted and forgot to take pictures of the second drinks. The bartenders were nice, we even got a free shot since we were celebrating my husband's birthday. Such a cool bar! It's inside a gorgeous & historic hotel, The Joule (a Leading Hotel of the World). To enter the bar, you walk into the lobby, make a left and walk downstairs. Don't forget to check out the beautiful mosaics in the lobby. The rocker chic modernist decor in this bar is off the charts and I love it. It's rare to find a bar that has great decor and is this hip and young but with no attitude. This is the place to go in downtown Dallas for a drink. We managed to snag a booth. They have some super cocktails and everything is very creative. I tried "The Hunty" cocktail which has sweet and tangy flavor cubes like Mango and Tajin spice (molded into the shape of a little jeep! It's all in the details) that you can choose to drop in with some wooden tongs. The staff is super cool and great looking. Love the signature T-shirts with the lightning bolts. I had fun just looking at the interior decor. The patrons were happy, but everyone was behaving themselves. There was a beautiful couple quietly kissing in a booth in the corner. They were obviously having a great time. I chatted with my best friend and we thoroughly enjoyed the visit here; she doesn't even drink alcohol. Definitely recommended if you're in downtown Dallas as it's one of the nicest and coziest hip hotel bars I've seen in my travels. read more

This place pretty cool! A speakeasy vibe! Very quaint but grown and sexy vibes! A twist on drinks! My drink was ok I was expecting it to be more sweeter but it was definitely good to try. My colleague had 2 drinks, he liked the first one and thought he liked the second one but then said it tasted too much like sake but the twist on the second drink was cool-it was brought out like ramen but weirdly you had "noodles" and the thought of eating it/drinking was pretty interesting but cool concept twist especially for those who like cool drinks! The staff were nice and the bar was full of people. There were also tables and booths too! We sat at the bar and it was cool. The menu I thought was pretty awesome! Looked like "record." Best speakeasy in Dallas hands down. Their drink menu changes seasonally, however I will post some items in this review that are a knockout. The service is amazing, and they cater to your needs and tastes, whether you like tequila, fruits and even hibiscus, they got you. Presentation of all the cocktails are creative, innovative and fantastic in taste. The ambiance is very great gatsbyesque, however live djs in residence always perform, and the music is amazing. Stopped by before heading up to my room. Sat at the bar wasn't greeted for 5 mins. While sitting a Caucasian man walked up and was greeted and handed a menu immediately. Decided to leave. Manager noticed I wasn't happy and offered to get me a drink I respectfully declined but really appreciated the gesture. Shout out to her! We made a reservation well in advance -- probably unnecessary, since there were only a few other parties while we were there -- but being greeted by name upon arrival added a nice touch that made us feel like VIPs. I was particularly excited to try their "10th Anniversary - Greatest Hits" menu, which I'd seen online and loved the concept of -- a vintage vinyl slip cover showcasing a decade's worth of their best cocktails. Instead, we were given the "Drinkin' Through Texas" menu, highlighting local spirits from various regions of the state. It was fine, but definitely not as exciting as a curated 'best-of' experience from the past ten years. The biggest issue? Their website still advertises the anniversary menu, which led to some misplaced expectations. Then there was the smell. A friend explained that it's the unavoidable aroma of old hotels, but in this case, the basement-level bar had a thick, heavy scent that leaned toward sewage. While I appreciate history and vintage charm, it was tough to fully enjoy my drinks while steeped in that atmosphere. That said, the cocktails were excellent. Four of us ordered the "South By Something" -- partly for the clever nod to the iconic SXSW festival, but mostly for its intriguing mix of fresh watermelon, chili-infused vodka, and smoky mezcal. We all loved it and agreed we'd come back just for that drink. I also tried the "Filthy 2.0," their twist on a dirty martini, which was solid. Service was on the slower side, but the moody ambiance worked well for catching up with out-of-town friends before our show at Echo Lounge. Overall, Midnight Rambler has potential -- great cocktails, an interesting concept, and a cool underground setting. But if they updated their website, refreshed the air, and tightened up service a bit, it could be a truly outstanding spot. read more

Small little speakeasy in the basement of the Joule Hotel in Downtown Dallas. I'm currently on a client project that is bringing me to Dallas. On my most recent trip, my team decided to grab some drinks after dinner. After going to another bar which wasn't the scene we were looking for we landed in the Midnight Rambler. Service was great! The waitress immediately brought us cocktail menus and checked on us regularly. The cocktails themselves were okay. They weren't anything to write home about, but I can see what they were going for. Overall only gave them four stars because while I felt the tried to create a speakeasy vibe it still felt very commercial. After going to so many great speakeasies in Chicago, New York and LA, it is hard to compete. However, if you are in the area, looking for a place with elevated cocktails and the ability to converse in a relatively intimate environment with friends, this is definitely a good spot. read more

The familiarity of the upscale vintage design is a perfect complement to the amazing cocktails and cuisine served by bartenders such as Zack, and midnight ramblers attention to detail from the door to its servers. However the eclectic clientele, and funky beats keep the Vibes fresh daily. We were visiting from Las Vegas last month and staying downtown at the Magnolia, looking for somewhere nearby the hotel within walking distance. Saw this place on yelp at first thinking it would be kind of like Dicks, except not downright mean staff, just rambling bartenders lol. What a total unexpected treat. Loud music played by a DJ in a small underground bar that stays open late and makes craft Pokémon themed drinks. 10/10 experience. Will be back! read more

I went here the first time a couple years back right after I got over Covid. I just never made it back because parking downtown is a nightmare but I knew I would want to come back when I was 100% to enjoy all their cocktails! I had two drinks, the first being their version of a dirty martini, paired with some accoutrements and then their version of an espresso martini. Both were so good! Nothing was overpowering in their drinks and they were both so easy to sip on. The bartenders were super friendly and very knowledgeable. Man... how is no one talking about the horrible odor of this place? I saw only one review from a few years ago but this bar seriously reeks like sewer. I thought the first time we all visited that it was a fluke and maybe the people near us had bad stomach aches but we returned two months later and the same thing. The drink was actually nasty, pineapple something with spicy salt rim but just drank half and left. It's a very small space and not much standing room. If you aren't lucky enough to get a table, which are always marked reserved, you will be bumped into all night long. I wish this place was better. Poor music both nights we attended also. The service was actually pretty good on the second visit but on first it was a nightmare. read more

Hidden gem. I'm not joking. Visit this place before it blows up so you can enjoy it in peace. I'm in town on travel, new to Dallas, so I'm coming back on my next trip to see how it is evolving. I'll also have to not stay at the Hilton and flow upstairs to the Joule after visiting. Comfortable, cozy, but growing. Limited menu, but my choice was super tasty. Not gonna have a full dinner here, but absolutely gonna have a full experience here. Can't complain about a bar without the distraction of a TV. You can bring your TV on your phone if you need it. We walked into the jolie hotel and in the corner is a cocktail sign that leads down very dark stairs. We got there at 600 on a Saturday and there were still a handful of seats at the bar. Lower level upscale bar hidden in the depths of a hotel. We found ourselves here at least 3 times in the 7 days that we were in in Texas. The prices were mid range, alcohol mixers were fresh and the service was very good. We ordered a hamburger and it was so delicious! We did not expect a great burger from a bar, but this was soooooo good. The music was hopping and there was great energy behind the bar and in the seats. On a recent trip to Dallas, my friend and I only had a few must-dos on our last, and Midnight Rambler was one of them. My friend knows the owners in a professional capacity and has been wanting to go for years. Boy was it worth it. The ambience is chic and cozy. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. The drinks were unique, unusual, and utterly delicious. My friend and I sat at the bar so we could talk through the beautiful menu--laid out like a map with little vignettes about the locations that inspired the drinks--with the bartender. I'm writing this review a few months down the road from our visit, so I can't remember exactly what I had, but both our drinks were absolutely fabulous. If I'm ever back in Dallas, I'll definitely be visiting again when I have a bit more time to sit and enjoy more than one cocktail. read more
