Steakhouse Review #4: Al Biernat's. Made reservations on a Friday night for 7:30pm. Got a ride because parking is a challenge here (valet only) and it just seemed easier. The host desk is around the bar and this created a lot of congestion with limited space to wait. There were literally tables in the front that had crowds of people standing at their tables while they ate. We waited about 40 minutes for a table and were ready to get our grub on when the time came. The decor inside was fine, with the place seeming accessible and appealing to all. Nothing really special but it was...fine. On our way to our table, we were stopped twice with two apologies by staff for the wait. Nice touch. We were seated in the back which we appreciated as the noise was minimized. Our waiter, Nick, was great. We ordered a filet, mac & cheese, brussel sprouts, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, and green beans. We also had a chocolate martini and watermelon/basil martini and both did their job but maybe weren't worth it. The complimentary bread basket was good with the rye bread being a big standout. This was the best overall meal we've had thus far. The filet was cooked perfectly, tender, and so good, the creamed corn (yaassss for the crunchy AND the creamy) was my fave, the mashers good, and brussels were tangy. All were divine. The mac & cheese was okay though not cheesy or special enough, and just go ahead and skip the green beans. Nick brought us out all the steak sauces because he's sweet like that and we truly enjoyed them all. My fave was the black peppercorn. We ordered the coconut cream pie for dessert, which Al's is famous for, and it was amazing...not too sweet and didn't have that fake coconut taste (which we enjoy on occasion). It's our fave dessert and this is one of the best we've ever had. Get it! Overall, this was a solid meal and we would definitely return. The meal was $150 and we tipped $70 for a total of $220. Al Biernat's was abuzz when we walked through the door for dinner a few Saturday's ago. I quickly noticed the crowd skews older, which isn't a problem just an observation. I love that they have matchbooks, because I have quickly turned into a Dallas matchbook enthusiast. I started with an old fashioned and had a cup of their crab and corn chowder, which was very tasty. My bestie ordered the goat cheese salad, which was so refreshing. Excellent choice. As much as it sounded like a good idea to do steak at a steak place, I just couldn't bring myself to on this occasion and opted for the red snapper dish. It was very nicely done, and a seriously solid portion. Bestie had a filet, I tried a bite and it was good but I only have steak on a few occasions. We shared some type of peanut butter dessert which truth be told, I can't quite recall so I won't call it unremarkable but I can recall my old fashioned, soup and fish dish - so perhaps try a different dessert option. My wife and I started a tradition of going to a fancy lunch on Christmas Eve, centered around seafood normally....We went to The Water Grill for two years before it closed and then TruLucks, which was nice, but the ambiance wasn't all that great. OMG Al Biernat's was what we were looking for all along! The food was out of this world. It was busy but FUN as everyone was in a festive mood, dressed up and catered by a waitstaff that by far was the best I have ever seen in my whole life. We had 7 different people assist or drop by to see if they could do anything for us. The Manager was a delight and our waiter was extremely efficient, though he was taking care of at least five or six other tables. Fabulous experience! Shoutout to our amazing server, Nick, for his outstanding hospitality and service! First time at this classic restaurant. My recommendation on food: Brad's Pear Salad... a perfect blend of sweet and savory in a salad that would balance your tastebuds, very flavorful. The Prime Rib... thick and juicy and simple. Very delicious and again, very flavorful. I ordered this baby, rare, and they got it right! If you're into prime rib, this one is up your alley. The Peanut Butter Chocolate Banana Pie..... they have peanut butter cups inside this very meaty dessert. Delicious, but not too overly sweet. The bar scene was lively and full of gusto. A very hip area! I highly recommend this classy joint. It's truly a dining institution in Dallas. You want a classic steakhouse with unique and authentic service, go to Al Biernats!!! Great food - great service - good night! We came here to celebrate a friend's engagement and it did not disappoint. For drinks they have a great selection of - and they were strong! My husband drinks Hibiki whiskey which we can't always find when at restaurants. I had an Espresso Martini and a chocolatini for dessert! We had a bottle of Moët to celebrate and the server bought us a shot of Clase Azul For Apps we had wagyu carpaccio and crab cakes - both amazing For entree we had Sea Bass on a bed of risotto and Veal Ossobuco also served with risotto. For sides we had spinach - this was the only item I was not impressed with - needed more seasoning. Also the lobster Mac and cheese - which was great. For dessert we all ate off the complimentary apple crumb cake and cheese cake. Also both very good! The best thing about this place is the service - all waiters on board and check on you constantly even if not the primary one. Took my aunt to Al Biernat's for Mother's Day, and while it was a mixed experience food-wise, what mattered most was that she had a wonderful time. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which unfortunately was way too tomatoey for my taste - so much so that I actually couldn't finish it. The tomato flavor completely overpowered the dish and made it pretty inedible for me. However, the bread pudding was absolutely incredible - easily a 10/10 dessert that more than made up for the disappointing main course. Rich, perfectly textured, and exactly what you want from a great bread pudding. Most importantly, my aunt was thrilled with her meal and the whole experience, which honestly made everything worth it. Sometimes the company and the occasion matter more than perfect food, and seeing her happy on Mother's Day was really all I could ask for. First off, please understand I am NOT a poser! I'm a single mom with four kids who's ex DOES NOT pay child support, so please don't get it twisted when I leave reviews for places like this. One of our favorite go-to's when my client and I go for lunch. When the weather in Dallas is pleasant, we like to sit on the outside, open air patio. From the car valet to the wait staff, we've visited frequently enough for my client's fedora and our similarly clipped goatees to be recognized, so we're treated like royalty. But then, most diners at Al Biernat's are, regulars and new comers alike. The food is always outstanding. Whether sharing a Filet Steak, Liver and Onions, a Prime Rib French Dip sandwich or some other entrée, we're never rushed, giving us an opportunity to chill, visit with the staff, and just generally have a great time! I've been to a lot of upscale restaurants but didn't find the food to be of the same caliber considering the price point. We came with a party of eight on a Saturday evening. Our server was very helpful and suggested the Al's Classic Seafood Platter because of its size. I wasn't too impressed with it as the tempura prawns were overly battered and not very tasty. Although the crab cakes were quite meaty, they too were overly battered. In my opinion, good quality seafood should not require such a thick batter unless the taste is being compromised. I ordered the Al's salad and our server advised I could order a half salad and was pleased she did as it was plentiful. I actually liked it better than my main course. Our server suggested to order a la cart and a smaller portion of meat when I advised her I didn't want the entree that was on the menu. I really appreciated her. I ordered an 8oz filet mignon and a side of brussels sprouts which were served as a generous portion, delicously flavored and crisped to perfection. I ate a few bites of the filet mignon which I was not very pleased with. I also ordered a red glass of Italian wine but they were out of it. Although our server was great at taking our order, she did forget to ask if we wanted coffee with our dessert. I would have appreciated ordering one however the tab had already been presented. First time here and I loved it! The food, drinks and service were top tier. I love the bar too, the aesthetic is everything. I got a filet with Mac and cheese and potatoes. Had dinner at Al Biernat's last night and I'm still thinking about it. Started strong with Al's Bluechip Martini, which set the tone immediately (aka: dangerous in the best way, so dangerous in fact that I needed two). For appetizers, we ordered the classic seafood platter with the tempura tiger prawn, fried calamari, and crab cake, plus the Wagyu carpaccio. The crab cakes were the undisputed star of the night--hands down my favorite thing I ate. Perfectly seasoned, tender, and paired with all the sauces. I would order these again without hesitation and possibly fight my dining companion (boyfriend) for the last bite. The calamari was good but nothing groundbreaking--solid, crispy, no complaints, just not stealing the spotlight. The Wagyu carpaccio was silky and rich, with pine nuts, parmesan, olive oil, and sesame lavosh adding great texture and flavor--light but indulgent at the same time. For mains, we had the sea scallops and the chicken parmesan. The scallops were perfectly cooked and delicious, and the coconut rice was unlike anything I've had before--in a very good way. Slightly sweet, unexpected, and it worked beautifully with the roasted cauliflower and lime vinaigrette. The chicken parm was super interesting (in a "wait, is that sauce inside the breading?" way). It almost tasted like the sauce was baked into the crust, which made it extra flavorful and honestly kind of genius. Sides were the Brussels sprouts and signature potatoes. The Brussels had great flavor thanks to the bacon and sriracha maple soy glaze, but I would've loved them even more if they were crispier. The signature potatoes with gruyère, cheddar, and bacon were exactly what you want them to be (rich, cheesy, and impossible to stop eating). Portion sizes were generous, the value felt totally worth it, and the service was excellent. Our waiter joked around with me and my boyfriend all night, which made the experience even better...top-tier food and personality? We love to see it. My husband ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with Lobster Risotto; I ordered the Red Snapper (Parmesan-Panko Crusted, Spinach & Artichoke Ravioli, Capers, Tomato, Roasted Garlic Butter Sauce). It was completely different than I expected (I did not notice any Parmesan-Panko Crust), but it was exceptionally wonderful. The flavors were delicate and complex and thoroughly satisfying. My husband said mine exceeded his sea bass -- and the sauce seemed more like a light cream sauce, definitely soppable! Our drinks were stellar. We started off with the crab cakes and paired with a nice Sauv Blanc. Wonderfully put together. And the sauce was great paired with a great wine. We ordered the Japanese horseradish halibut. Sooooo good. Also had the bone in short rib with parsnips and kale. I'm not a fan of either parsnips or kale, but wow was I wrong. I am now a fan. The scalloped potatoes were also very good. I called ahead to ensure they knew we were celebrating and asked that they do something special. We arrived, the staff seemed unorganized and overwhelmed. Not many English speaking servers, which made it hard to order and communicate. Felt very rushed and not the experience we were looking for. In addition, our 20oz NY strip steak came out extremely rare to the point we had to send it back. When it came back out, it clearly had not rested and was still cooking. It's a steakhouse, that should be easy for them to figure out based on a guests preferences. Fast forward to the end of the meal, no one ever said happy birthday to my husband or did anything special after calling to ask that they make our evening special. Considering the number of times I have been to this location, this review is a bit overdue. Most of my visits have been for Sunday brunch and I have zero complaints regarding my experiences. For openers, parking is complimentary valent (remember to tip). Otherwise, if available, there is street parking in the area. For both arrivals and departures, the valet staff does an excellent job of ensuring the wait is kept to a minimum and they do in a very friendly manner. After completing the parking process, check in with receptionist always goes smoothly. Weather permitting, on some days they have a separate receptionist for indoor and outdoor dining. They have one of the best patios arounds that sits on the just off the entrance and provides a view of the parking lot. While this may not sound exciting, if you are into cars, there are usually a number of Bentley's, Rolls Royce's, plus other luxury cars coming and going. The indoor dining area is equally as nice and very spacious. Seating consists of tables/chairs in the middle of the dining area with booths along the outside. Add to that, they have full bar with seating. The bar is located immediately after the entrance and contains seating on both sides. All the staff here are spectacular and provide top notch service. Every server I've had has always been friendly and attentive. On my most recent visit, the server remembered serving our group ~1 year ago when we there as part of a larger group celebrating a birthday. He enthusiastically welcomed us back and glad to see us again (thankfully, we were on our best behavior that day and created a good memory...LOL). Be a large party or just a few people, the staff always provides excellent service. As for the food, top notch. As I mentioned, most of my visits have been for Sunday brunch and I never tire of their brunch menu. Everything I've had is always prepared per order, comes out matching the menu description and is always tasty. While my go to on the brunch menu is American Breakfast, I have also enjoyed the Crawfish Etouffee Benedict, Shrimp and Grits, and the Chilean Sea Bass. Their brunch menu contains a variety of items and accommodates many diet types. Lastly, they have a bar that offers a wide range of beverages including some great brunch cocktails, mocktails, whiskeys, and wines. I was really excited for this restaurant! Menu looked a bit too extensive however I was willing to roll the dice. The ambiance is a bit confused. Are you a sports bar, steakhouse or French style bistro? There was all these jerseys on the wall, but then a photo of a lion and then a mounted gazelle head on the opposite wall. Dress code? My left foot! I saw t-shirts and baseball caps, and people wearing legit athletic gear mixed with people who actually followed the dress code. Just a weird mix, if there is no dress code update the website so I could have worn my stretchy pants. The food: Apps the oysters are really nice! Fresh but small. The fried calamari was fine. The garlic aioli was way better than the watery marinara. We got the steak. The cowboy ribeye with the Thermidor topping was fantastic, nice char and perfect medium rare. My husband got the porterhouse, huge disappointment. Over cooked in places and over charred. It was actually tough to chew. But he's a saint so didn't say anything. The special potatoes were undercooked and forgettable, they were fine but the only thing that stood out was how underdone they were. The Mac and cheese with the lobster was also forgettable. They use the scraps of lobster to top it off. Upscale, not even close. Service, our waiter checked on us really infrequently, but frequently. Like when he didn't need to be there he was and when you needed him he wasn't there lol. The buser gentleman with in the all black was fantastic! Promote that guy to a waiter because he really elevated what was a real shit experience. Drinks... they can't make an old fashioned to save their life. Crushed ice in an old fashion? Come on bartender take a good look at yourself. The mocktail was fine but really unbalanced which was weird since it was on the menu. Just really sweet. Dessert was on them. Got the molten chocolate lava cake that they called something else. It was cold... and they wrote happy birthday instead of happy anniversary. Real attention to detail here lol. All in all I wouldn't go back. We spent about $750 with tip. Definitely over priced. Linens were dirty on the table, bathrooms weren't properly cleaned. Are you an upscale restaurant or not? I went to Al Biernat's to celebrate my birthday in March 2025. It's a place I've looked forward to trying for a long time as it's a Dallas staple I've always heard great things about. It was very loud and crowded, the vibe was very much a place to go and be seen. Lindsay, our waitress was nice, but our booth was cramped and wobbly and the person behind me moved so much and so constantly that I spent most of the meal leaning forward to try to avoid it. We started with drinks which were probably the best part of the night- the old fashioned was particularly good. The food was good, but not the quality I'd expect for the price point. I don't regret going, but I won't be back. I'd give the experience 3 stars, but I deducted a full star because I spent most of the next day sick. read more

The wait for our food was unusually long; it felt like forever just to get appetizers. To be fair, when they did arrive, the appetizers were excellent and the Caesar salad was one of the best I've had. The steak itself was also cooked very well, so the kitchen clearly knows what they're doing. The problem came at the end of the meal. When I asked to have my steak boxed to go, the staff combined it into one container with an entire table's leftover steaks. That felt careless and unprofessional. On top of that, it meant I lost out on the perks and presentation I expected from a place of this caliber. The service was the best part of it for me. Although we were sat 20 minutes after our reservation, I was understanding as it was truly packed there AND the New York Rangers were there. It's a dope atmosphere but a bit loud. Once we were sat, the service was great. Started with the steak tartare that comes with their house made sour cream and onion chips, which was the best I've ever had. Order the New York strip, and all 3 of our steaks were under, which they quickly fixed. While I was not thrilled about that, the actual steaks were pretty good and I just wish the sear and temp were right first try. We got the Mac and cheese which was well seasoned and not too cheesy. We got the mushrooms, which were fine but nothing to write home about. Lastly, we got the fries, which were nice and crispy and well salted. Drinks were quite good as well. Came here for a work lunch with a client and from Entrance to exit the experience was great. They have complimentary valet onsite, perfect because parking is limited around the area. It was perfect for a business meeting and would equally be as great for a date night, or an evening at the bar located at the front. The hostesses and owners greet you throughout the evening and the waiters we had were excellent. I had the special of the day, red snapper and it was delicious but the sauce was slightly bland.
