Our appetizers were wood roasted meatballs and black truffle risotto. As the share able sides we had black truffle mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. All the food was flavorful. For dessert we had apple soufflé and a tiramisu delicious ! Very lite and it overwhelming. The service from the server could of of been better. He could of been more attentive and suggested more options. He seem not invested in the evening. Overall the food was worth it! Service could of been better. Attire was not fully enforced. Unlike most places with exceptional views, such as Monarch's, the food actually lived up to it. This is a spot for most people to see and be seen, but for me it was a great spot to gorge myself. The tomahawk was what dreams are made of. The char on the outside was exceptional, practically blackened, so you could taste the flames. The inside was a med rare minus probably, but that didn't slow me down. The wood fired oyster mushrooms paired perfectly and are a steal at $12. Also, the ability to execute a perfect Cacio e Pepe and a steak, such as Monarch did, is a rare feat. Such a stellar spot. read more

Monarch ended up to be everything I hoped it would be and more. I was so excited to take my boyfriend here for his 30th birthday. I had a friend that came here with her husband in celebration of their anniversary, and they highly recommended it. So I expected great things from here. It did not disappoint. We did not do valet, and I wish we did. We ended up parking in the parking garage which was the same price as valet which is $10. I think we did not get complimentary champagne upon arrival, because we did not do valet or go through the front entrance. So I would definitely do valet next time. Once we got to the 49th floor from the elevator, we were greeted by friendly hostesses. I had made a 6:30pm reservation for us. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated quickly. I was so happy to be seated at a window. I had requested this and would have been very disappointed if we did not get a window seat. It made our night so special. Our waitress, Daisy, was so nice. I could tell that she wanted to make our experience the best possible. She was very attentive and made us feel comfortable. I liked how she would come by to check on us and strike up a conversation. I feel like I haven't been to many restaurants where you can get that kind of service. It makes this place stand out for me and is exceptional in my book. She also offered to take our picture which I thought was so kind of her. The service was so amazing, but also the food was too. We were served complimentary soppressata, olives, truffle butter, and bread. Oh my goodness, the truffle butter was heavenly! I loved it so much. It paired so well with the bread. We ordered the crudo for an appetizer. The salmon, hamachi, and tuna was so fresh and flavorful. Every component of the dish worked well together. We had a hard time deciding what drinks to get since the drink menu is so extensive. I love having so much variety to choose from tho. My boyfriend ended up getting the Improved Whiskey Cocktail. He loved the smoothness of the drink. After talking to the sommelier, I chose the Rare Wine Historic Series Madeira Flight. It came with four 1.5 ounce pours. These were dessert wines, so I could have had it later in the evening versus during the meal. However, I enjoyed being able to savor each one during the whole course of dinner. For the main course, we decided to share one of the house-made pastas and one of the entrees with two sides. Our favorite dish of the night was the black truffle risotto. It was one of the best risottos I have had and that is saying something since I have had many risottos. It was cooked perfectly. I wish it came with visibly larger black truffle shavings. But that is okay. The lamb chops were cooked medium rare as requested. Perfect char, tender, and flavorful seasoning. I really really liked the herbs and spices the chef used on them. Compliments to the chef! The sides were very good too. We ordered the fire-roasted brussel sprouts. Our waitress, Daisy, said that this was new to the menu. We enjoyed it very much. It went well with the lamb chops. We also ordered the wood oven-roasted oyster mushrooms. Seasoned to perfection and complimented everything else that we ordered. I thoroughly enjoyed eating everything. We were so full by the end of the night. The sunset was just out of our line of sight from where our window was, but it still was a lovely view of the city. After the sun went down, all of the city lights made for such a beautiful view. At the end of the night, we ordered the toffee cake pudding for dessert. Extremely tasty! We could barely finish it since we were so stuffed. But it was so good that we did end up eating every last bite. I loved that they put a candle on it to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday :) Last but not least, they gave him complimentary little pastries in a cute box from the pastry chef. my husband took me here for our anniversary dinner and it was very memorable. it definitely is THE place for celebrations. they print out little flyers on old menus commemorating what the occasion was for (which impresses me with how good their servers/hosts memories are). we lucked out and got a booth with a view. Hash, our waiter was very kind and prompt. i enjoyed our octopus appetizer and the ravioli dish. we even left the restaurant, forgot our flyer, and came back up and they offered to print us out another one. very great service and you can tell this is a popular spot (they actually enforce dress code to 'promote the celebratory nature of this restaurant') so you definitely feel very special to dine here. read more

We decided to celebrate our best friends 21st birthday here at Monarch in Dallas. Valet was very quick & easy, was only $10. Contrary to other peoples experiences, we weren't fortunate enough to be greeted with complimentary glasses of champagne at the elevator, nor were there any birthday shots given. That was a bit of a disappointment, but nothing that should cost a star. Once we exited the elevator, we were immediately welcomed & directed toward the entrance of the restaurant itself. We notified them of our reservation & were seated very soon after. Our table was set to dine with a plate, fork & knife, cloth napkin, wine glass, and water glass beforehand. Our waiter presented us each with our own menu & asked what our beverage of choice would be. He also suggested some drinks that were not on the menu. Dress code-- Business casual or "better." The restaurant website does state, no hats, ripped jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, flip flops, shorts or sweats. The men during our visit were following the dress code and wearing business casual, the women were wearing simple dresses, coats, & some in blouses & nice jeans. I did see men & women with jeans, so that seems to be okay to wear but not common. Most of the guests had business casual attire as requested by Monarch. I saw one gentleman sporting a Gucci cap, ripped jean jacket, a t-shirt, & Gucci sweats, with tennis shoes so I'm assuming that's considered better than business casual. Our party stuck to business casual. Seating-- The table did not feel cramped with 4 people seated, the seats were very comfortable & easy to move back & forth. Unfortunately, we did not know a booth(window table) had to be requested to be seated there so we were sat in the middle area of the room. A window table is $125 per person & must be requested/reserved ahead of time online. But our experience was fantastic regardless of sacrificing the city view. Food-- We decided on Caesar salad to share as a starter, the salad tasted great & the croutons had a perfect texture. As for entrées, we had the Fire-Seared King Salmon & the Wood-Grilled Chicken; The salmon tasted amazing & was extremely tender and full of flavor, although I must say I felt as though the pistachio gremolata was a bit overwhelming as far as the amount provided & difference in texture in contrast to the wonderful salmon. The heirloom citrus did compliment the salmon very well in my honest opinion. The Wood-Grilled chicken was grilled to perfection & so juicy and tender. The lemon, thyme, & salsa verde really brought the dish together. As a shared side, we decided on the Shortrib Bolognese; tasted absolutely fantastic & was large enough for 4 people to get a good portion. We passed on dessert because everyone was full & satisfied. Service-- The service was more than great, Our waiter ensured each of our guests were satisfied with their choices & continued to check in on us. From starters, to entrées, to sides, our plates & cutlery were always replaced with fresh sets for the next dish. Our drinks were never empty as staff/our waiter would consistently refill our waters & replace our drinks. Come time for dessert, we were each given a small menu with choices of dessert & even then our waiter had off-the-menu suggestions. We truly admired the menu knowledge & politeness of our waiter. This made the experience signature to Monarch because it was that great. As mentioned before, it was our best friends 21st birthday so we did expect something from the restaurant for him, but were instead given a copy of the menu with "Happy 21st Birthday Bryson!" printed over the center of it. That was quite odd & was hard to be excited about. Nevertheless, it was cute. Prices-- My tab totaled out to just over $230 for everyone, The salmon was just under $50 (x3), the chicken was $32, and the pasta was only $20 (all before tax.) We definitely felt that the prices were well worth each platter judging off of the presentation, textures, flavors, & overall satisfaction. Monarch is definitely one to experience! I ordered the parm encrusted veal because the waiter recommended it. they pounded it so flat and breaded it so thick that I couldn't taste the veal. it tasted like breading. the asparagus was way over salted so generally a disappointment. nice atmosphere, but fair service as we had to flag down the waiter to refill wine and i requested bread twice for the pasta sauce and gave up because they never brought it. I've been here for dinner ones and drinks a few times at the Thompson. It can be very difficult to get a dinner reservation during the weekend, so make one well in advance. This is definitely a money grabbing "luxury" establishment with a nice view and ambiance. There is free valet parking for restaurant goers which is great as this is smack in the middle of downtown. You get a glass of champagne on the main floor before you walk into the elevator. The hostess would have been more polite and I felt the dress code was enforced only to certain patrons. If you want a window view you have pay for that and if you are there for the view that really is the only place on which you get the full experience. I was seated across from a window and I'm tall so I was able to enjoy the view on a rainy day. The pasta was just okay as far as taste, I love Italian food and this could have been seasoned better. The lobster was fresh and a good size. The mashed potatoes were creamy and wonderful. I personally won't be back for dinner as I feel the prices are just extremely high for what you get. I was really excited to try this place as it has been on my list for a while now. We came with a group of 7 for a birthday dinner. Upon arrival you get champagne to go up the elevator just make sure you enter through the front. Sadly the birthday girl parked in the garage underneath and did not get a glass. We were seated promptly and given menus. The views were amazing as expected. We all split the pork belly special for an appetizer which was delicious and the frito misto di mare which has a great sauce with it. For drinks I got the my only vice cocktail which has good flavor. For dinner my boyfriend got the braised oxtail pasta which was super tasty with a complex flavor. I got the short rib bolognese which was tasty but I'd want to try something else next time as it wasn't knock your socks off. The Dover sole was a tiny portion and I don't think worth the price for what it was. Overall the food was tasty though. The disappointment was really the environment and service. Most of us were not asked if we wanted another drink nor were we shown anywhere to put our coats. I would expect for a place of this caliber to have a coat closet for us or something of the sort. Then the women's bathroom was a mess. There's only three stalls one of which was completely clogged for what had looked like a while. The clogged toilet also cause the whole bathroom to stink. One of the other stalls had no toilet paper in it leaving a line of women with essentially one bathroom. One of the two sinks was missing the handle for the cold water and the entire sink area was flooded with water. When I told the hostess that the bathroom needed some attention she rolled her eyes and didn't say anything. Kind of unfortunate for the reputation this place has. The strict code does not seem to be strictly enforced as someone was seated with adidas joggers on with the stripes down the legs. But the food is pretty good and the reviews are spectacular which was what made it worth 4 stars. read more

To start the sommelier was dismissive and did not truly seem to understand the wine menu. Our waitress was rude, rolled her eyes when ordering drinks and disappeared when the food arrived. I ordered the ribeye medium rare and the first time I came out medium well, and the second time it came out medium (seems like this place doesn't know how to cook a steak). The sides were very good. The manager was very helpful and checked it constantly which was nice and comped the steak. But the over all experience ruined the trip. I personally never want to go back. If I'm paying that much for dinner one would expect excellent service and perfectly cooked food this was a disappointment. read more

We reserved a window booth for five people at 8:15 last Saturday. Valet can take a minute so plan accordingly. The glass of champagne for the elevator ride up is a great touch. While waiting for our elevator a large bachelorette party decked out in hoochie club wear was leaving the restaurant. We figured their attire was event based, the bachelorette party. That opinion shifted over the course of the evening. We arrived early so we could head to their speak easy on the floor above the restaurant. Swank bar with a number of couches and tables, and you can walk the perimeter of the floor for a full 360 view of the city from the 49th? floor. Highly recommend taking in the sights! After returning downstairs and checking in for dinner we hung out in the crowded bar filled with energetic and upbeat people. Our table was ready 20 minutes past our reservation time and were escorted to our booth. Gorgeous place and filled with a definite "seen & be seen" scene - the number of selfies being taken per table was hilarious. Mixed ages but for sure this place absolutely attracts the IG crowd. Our table ordered cocktails and our server walked us through the menu. Appetizers consisted of wagyu beef carpaccio (excellent), tuna tartar (the shoyu vinaigrette was heavy and nearly overpowered the fish), tasty roasted tiger prawns and their wood fired meatballs. I've read such amazing accounts of the service and perhaps it was the busy Saturday evening but we waited 20+ minutes for each drink order, not receiving the wine ordered in between courses until we were almost finished with our mains. While I understand being busy, at this price point a place should staff their bar to move the drinks out far faster. Our server was okay, but certainly not the engaging, witty, charming, uber helpful type I've read in other Monarch reviews. A few minutes after receiving menus, before drinks we had ordered from the bar arrived and prior to any explanation of the menu or any specials, she asked if we were ready to order dinner... odd. We had to flag her down for subsequent drink orders, and when asked what she thought of one dish she simply said "it's okay", shrugged her shoulders, and left. Otherwise she was polite and efficient. Everyone enjoyed their mains, crispy veal chop parmigiana (quite large!), roasted filet which was melt in your mouth, wagyu strip loin and one of the specials, a lamb oso buco. Their chocolate cake with peanut butter and tiramisu both delish but that cake was absolutely something! I'll share what I observed while in line for the bathroom as it kinda represents the crowd & vibe: this 20-something (who we saw earlier at the valet as he exited his lime green Lamborghini) asked another young guy passing the line the following "Bruh, what kinda fur is that jacket, it's sick". Fur jacket responds "Oh Bruh, it's baby fox. My fur dealer says baby fox is the softest". 100% true story Those tools aside, bathrooms are nice, have views and attendants! Overall very glad we had the experience. Based on this one evening, we all felt the food/service wasn't quite on the same level as other similarly priced Dallas restaurants. But also recognize in part you are paying for the views and vibe. If looking for a more intimate or romantic dinner, would probably be best to avoid Friday or Saturday evening as I hear non peak nights are less packed and attract a different crowd. read more

At a certain price point. All the items on the menu should be good and hopefully enjoyable and very memorable. With that said, the food here is good, but I wouldn't say that it's good enough for the price. I would love to come back and try the 45 day aged tomahawk (I believe it was?) but based on the preparation of the filet mignon and also the rib-eye, I don't think it would be worth the money. I'll likely never come back here unless it's a request. This place is obviously a big tourist draw because of the views which, because of Dallas's curious zoning isn't all that stellar at night looking down onto highways but ambiance inside is not too bad. I came to celebrate a friend's birthday and had French 75 cocktails which were done well enough (though my lemon wasn't twisted and garnished properly). I'd have liked a little showmanship especially on a somewhat popular cocktail. I started off with a Caesar salad with a nice citrus twist to it that was a refreshing take on that classic. As my main course I had the black truffle risotto. It was flavorful and I have no complaints about it. I tried a bit of the Comte crusted filet mignon. The crusting was underwhelming as it was billed as the signature of that dish. The meat, medium rare plus, just didn't give me a memorable flavor. I also tried a bit of the ribeye which was good, as a nice steak that I'd buy from my local butcher and put on the grill myself. Again, the "wow factor" was missing. Finally, the waiter was a bit bland. He seemed slightly aloof at times as though he was trying to remember the menu and his lines more than listening to our questions and/or requests. Once we made it to the 49th floor Sally (Maître D') elevated the experience with personalized service. It was a busy night but it was well managed by Sally and the staff. The ambiance was perfect, low lit and intimate. The service at the table was very attentive. The food was delicious. We had an appetizer with calamari, prawns, & halibut. The Caesar salad was fresh and crisp. The dressing has me wanting more. For dinner we ordered a ribeye, lamb chops, filet mignon, and Nilgai (antelope harvested in South Texas). The entire experience was absolutely incredible from the champagne greeting on the ground floor to the bathrooms with a view to the excellent service. We started with cocktails. When we entered the building we were offered complimentary champagne and were then directed towards the hotel. We went up the elevator and were eventually led to our table. Dress code was strictly enforced and if not abide by they will give the men a sport coat to wear. The host/waiter was extremely informative maybe too informative because when I asked for recommendations it felt like the entire menu was recommended which put us all back to square one. On to the food: We order family style to try different items. We got the meatballs, special carbonara, momma's spicy rigatoni alla Vodka, truffle mash potatoes and the filet. The meatball was tasty and wet our appetite for the courses to come. The best dish I thought was the truffle mash which said a lot about the rest of the meal. The momma's spicy rigatoni was delicious with a tiny kick of spice. However, the main dish the filet was quite disappointing. We wanted the filet to be medium rare however the filet was medium. The meat was nothing special and we all felt the same way.
