A friend from out of town and I visited Hugo's for lunch this past Sunday and had an amazing time! Everything we ordered was phenomenal and all the staff treated us so well. We sat at the table for two near the door which had great lighting, and it was really fun to people watch as pedestrians roamed outside. Our server recommended a few cocktails - I got the Limelight which was delicious and my friend got one of the clarified cocktails, which was also very tasty. Honestly the alcohol flavor was masked super well so they're very dangerous drinks! Will have to come by to try some of the others. Our server was super helpful explaining & coursing out the menu, and we got a bunch of items to share. First up we got the scallop aguachile, which was tart and spicy and super refreshing, and the salmon tartare which was creamy and decadent and came with shatteringly crisp wonton chips. Really excellent starters, and they made me want to come back and get the rest some time! Then we split the ahi tuna tostadas and the crab avocado tostadas, which come 2 per order. Hugo O. came over to ask if we were sharing and helpfully had them plated one each per plate so we could eat them more easily, and also brought over a chili pequín hot sauce to complement the tostadas. They were so good! I'll be dreaming about both the tostadas and the pequín sauce for a while. The ahi tuna was super fresh and went so well with the accompaniments, and the crab didn't get lost in the other flavors on that tostada. The crisp tortillas underneath also held up really well to each bite; I'm so used to tostadas shattering upon first taste but the structural integrity of Hugo's were super impressive. For our main we split the fish of the day, which was seared Hokkaido scallop atop a bed of corn risotto. This also came pre-split into two bowls so we didn't have to do it ourselves, which was a super nice touch. The scallops were cooked to perfection, super soft and tender with an incredible crust, and the corn risotto was super creamy and savory. Almost a little too salty for me with the amount of cheese, but still so good I almost licked the bowl clean. Seriously good food here - sad it's a bit of a trek from where I live but I can't wait to come back to try more of the menu! read more

Best seafood in Dallas. Hands down. Is it expensive? Yes. Is seafood generally expensive? Also yes. Is it fresh and delicious? Yes and yes. I am from the Pacific Northwest and I love seafood. I've lived in Dallas for 3 1/2 years and have generally avoided it because anytime I've had it, its been disappointing. This is the first seafood place that's not a sushi place that I am obsessed with. It's a very small space, very intimate, can be a little bit loud at times depending on who's sitting next to you...but if you have the money and you're looking for quality seafood, this place is incredible. Perfect to celebrate a special occasion or a date night. highly recommend. service is great. We ordered the seafood tower and every single item on it was delicious. Definitely ask for some melted butter to go with your lobster. Im not big on poke but the poke was seasoned with sesame oil and was so fresh. The scallops were buttery and amazing. The oysters were the perfect size. Fresh? Not overly salty. The mignonette was perfect. This was the first meal I've been this excited about since i discovered otaru sushi...but other than that can't think of any other places where the food blew my mind and made my eyes roll back in my head. This is a small spot in Bishop Arts, so small that if you blink, you may miss it, but keep your eyes open, because this is a hidden gem that you don't want to miss out on. When you walk in, the first thing you will notice is it's small. But if you read this review you already knew that. It has limited tables and some bar space but it can get a little tight. However this is also BA, so smile and don't be afraid to ask the person next to you what they ordered because they might turn you on to something you hadn't even thought about before. On this visit we splurged and got the seafood tower. Now let me say I'm not usually a fan of raw tuna but I was with a friend who wanted to try this out and I went with it. The tower arrived and I won't lie, I was like okay, I see you! It came with horseradish that was very strong so this is your heads up before you blow your senses like I almost did. It also had marionette and cocktail sauce with lemons. I asked for some butter and that was brought to the table as well. There were two different oysters, both delicate and delicious. The scallops (one again I'm not a raw fan) but it was like BUTTER. I swear I could have eaten a plate of them. The shrimp were plump, the lobster was perfection and that tuna I was dreading . . . It was tossed in a sesame dressing with some other stuff and I can say I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied. This was a meal that I can say checked every box and was one of the best seafood experiences I've had in Dallas. I would recommend that you bring a light sweater as where we sat was COLD but also take into account the weather as on a hot day it's where you'd probably want to be with a cold beer and a lobster roll. Came here for happy hour and man it is an amazing deal! I love that they do happy hour during lunch hours Friday and Saturday cause You can make it into a good meal. The food is amazing here. Fresh quality seafood served just right. Their seafood tower is jam packed with a variety of shellfish but it's enough for a whole meal for one or split it with someone and add some more food. we sat at the bar and got amazing service from Hugo himself! He was amazing and mixed up some delicious cocktails. This place is so cozy and quaint, it reminds me a lot of a New York or east coast bar with the exposed brick and limited seating. Our favorite restaurant in Dallas. It's small, intimate, local...and incredibly delicious. A fabulous spot for a quick drink and lite bites at their bar before dinner, or for a full meal with a small group of your closest friends. It's such a cozy vibe late at night, too. Hugo O. is a genius when it comes to crafting original cocktails. Truly the best bartender in Dallas. The "Blame it on the Juice" is dangerously drinkable, and the Cynarly is my favorite riff on a Manhattan. The Ron Con Cafe is the best carajillo in Dallas, and the gin martini on the menu is the best martini in Dallas. (Be sure to ask for the "menu martini" as opposed to just a regular martini.) Don't miss the wine list too, which is really beautifully curated. Hugo G. has masterfully crafted some of our favorite dishes in Dallas, including the hamachi crudo (truly the best we've ever had anywhere) and the ahi tuna toastada (soooo fresh), but weekly and daily specials always have us coming back for new flavors. The quality of the raw fish here is amazingly consistent and absolutely stunning. The two Hugos have been doing amazing things in the kitchen and behind the bar, and I can't wait to see what 2026 brings. read more

Came in to celebrate Hugo's 1yr anniversary, and what a great decision that was. It's a fairly small place, so it was packed out and we needed up waiting about an hour to be seated. While we waited, we bounced around to a couple other spots in Bishop Arts to pass the time, so the wait didn't feel as long. The service was impeccable, our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and full of suggestions. We ordered mostly from the anniversary happy hour menu, so I'm not sure if all of those items are on the permanent menu, but everything we had was delicious from the crab cakes to the oyster shot (which was a first for me). I've passed by Hugo's countless times and now I know why it's always packed in there, it will be in my regular rotation going forward. read more

My friend and I randomly picked this spot for lunch, and I'm so glad we did. We started off with the Oyster Shooters -- I spiked mine with vodka, and she went with sake. Both were delicious and a fun way to kick things off. For my main, I ordered the prime strip steak and added an extra side of potatoes. Everything was cooked perfectly, but the real standout was the bone marrow butter -- absolutely incredible and packed with flavor. The service was fantastic from start to finish, and we didn't have a single issue. Overall, a great lunch spot with excellent food, friendly staff, and a chill Bishop Arts vibe. My husband and I brought our kids here for a Mother's Day/my birthday lunch because I desperately wanted to go, having heard amazing things about it. While not a prototypically kid-friendly place, they were over the top amazing with my 3,5 and 9 year olds and it was so delightful. The food was spectacular! and the cocktails - I had a grapefruit-yuzu drink and my husband a plantain-coffee-porter beer drink - both creative and scrumptious. they also kindly split a mocktail so my kids could have a festive drink to share without any skirmishes. It happened to be happy hour when we went, so we enjoyed the happy hour seafood towers and lots of oysters! also highly recommend the scallop aguachile and the mixed crudo. Wow! Came in around dinner time on a Thursday evening to a more than half full restaurant. The vibe inside felt very New York to me, this could have easily been a small restaurant tucked away in a SoHo neighborhood. Our waiter was very friendly and the food came out in a perfectly measured time frame. First, I want to mention that I think the thing they do best here is their craft cocktails. Excellently balanced no frills drinks. I would have happily enjoyed their entire cocktail menu. We decided to order small bites off their starter/appetizer menu only. To be honest, the options on the mains/entrees seemed kind of basic leaving something more to be desired. The ahi tuna tostada (waiter recommendation) was maybe my favorite bite of the meal. It was very beautiful to look at it, the tostada crisp was exceptional, the flavor on the ahi was big and bright, and the avocado added a wonderful finish to the bite. The caviar sampler for me was a nice experience but honestly there was too much crème friache served with the caviar bite and it kind of overwhelmed the delicate flavors of the caviar. The grilled oysters eaten with the toasted crostini were solid but the flavors were kind of tamped down and muted, it definitely needed that squeeze of lemon on top with it. The lobster croquettes you can tell were freshly made and tasted really good along with the veloute sauce they served them with, for me though, texturally, they was very soft and mushy and there wasn't a lot of crunch on the fried exterior of the croquette. All in all still a very delicious meal and I hope more people come to visit Hugo's. Bishop Arts could really use more restaurants like this! read more

Hugo's is as advertised!!! Quaint little spot that fits about 25-30 at most but is absolutely doing things right. We tried half a dozen of east coast and premium (Canadian) oysters and they were both fantastic. They also have a couple house made hot sauces that are really nice and frankly go so much better on tostadas than the oysters. Ahi Tuna Tostadas was also very tasty. For a more heavier option, the crab and lobster croquettes were out of this world good. The crab cake part of it was filled with real crab meat and not a bunch of fillers. Not only was the food amazing, but our server, Lalo, was friendly, knowledgeable and very detail oriented.
