This place has been on my list for a couples of years. It didn't disappoint at all. The food and service was top tier. We had a table with an amazing view. I did wear a Moncleur shirt with no collar and I guess collar shirts are required but I saw women that was dressed less than and it's acceptable. I went for my birthday this year and it was amazing! My server was attentive and knowledgeable on the menu! I got the lamb shank and it was so tender and juicy. I was so stuffed and still couldn't stop eating. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious! I also had a side of the green beans that were very well seasoned! The ambiance was beautiful. I would definitely get the shared options Bc you will want to sample all of it. We had the live crab and the spicy mini buns were to die for, my favorite of the night. The view at this restaurant was very lovely and was the immediate draw. There were many nice touches, from the furnishings to the attentiveness of the staff (Mariah, Alex and James were all fantastic). We went on their third night of being opening, so there were definitely some challenges, such as long wait times for food and some dishes being amazing and others needing some finishing touches shifted. The drinks were fantastic, with my favorite being The Duchess. The Night Cap was one of our favorite dishes, which is a combination of multiple deserts with coffee and liquors. We also ordered the homemade creamsicle ice cream and it was one of the best ice creams I have ever eaten. I would have given less stars initially but the staff were so amazing in making sure any parts of the night that did not go well were compensated for or remedied. Upon entering the hotel (the newly built Thompson Hotel in Dallas), I was greeted with a glass of champagne and then escorted to the 49th floor of the hotel. My first thought immediately was to figure out how I could stay here....for the rest of my life! The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and there is no bad seat in the house. Everyone was super friendly and gracious and I got a kick out of the wine service from the super handsome and quirky sommelier! My stand out dishes were....well everything honestly. The beef carpaccio, marinated olives, tuna crudo (I had to have it!), meatballs, lasagna and the most tender ribeye ever. I contemplated all of life's possibilities in my window seat...its that inspirational, and even ran into a few influencer friends while I was there. What else can be said about Monarch besides: absolutely impeccable? From the staff to the food to the ambiance, there's VERY little room for improvement because the entire experience was -- dare I say, perfect. Where can I even begin? The restaurant is absolutely stunning. It's a beautiful, low light space taking up what seems to be like the entire 49th floor of the building plus an upstairs area. The view is breathtaking and if you're lucky enough to snag a booth, the view is perfect for an intimate evening. Monarch has an amazingly diverse staff who are all polite and accommodating. There was a little bit of a drip from an AC vent at our table, and our waiter immediately relocated us to a booth and we got to have a gorgeous view of Downtown Dallas while we ate. The bartenders were all quick and well- versed in all things cocktails. As I was taking photos, one member of the kitchen staff was kind enough to spark a flame on the grill for dramatic effect. Now to the most important part -- the food. My upmost compliments to Chef Danny Grant (two-time Michelin starred Chef) and Chef de Cuisine Eric Dreyer, because while the menu has its rustic Italian roots, it's completely reimagined and reinvigorated. The table favorite was absolutely the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli. The presentation of this dish, along with all of our dishes, was magnificent and the taste was indescribable. The handmade pasta was cooked to perfection, and the white wine sauce was rich but light -- I couldn't get enough. My friends and I went to Monarch for a ladies night and had an amazing time. As soon as we checked in for our reservation, we were kindly and promptly greeted with a glass of champagne. They directed us to the elevators that whisked us to the 49th floor where Monarch is located. The hostesses were very kind and directed our group to our table. Even though we didn't have a window seat, the view from our table was amazing. The vibes of this place are also very luxe! Our waiter was very kind and carefully explained the menu to us first timers, while also providing excellent suggestions. We also had a sommelier come to our table to provide wine recommendations from their extensive wine offering. They provided complimentary bread service after we placed our drink orders which was a great way to kick off our meal. Me and my girls decided to try a variety of things, and most items here are served as shareable dishes. We started with the tiger prawns, frito misto, Cesar salad, and meatballs. Everything was fantastic but the Frito misto was a little too salty for our liking. For my entree I ordered the branzino and the spicy rigatoni. Both dishes were fantastic and well seasoned. The branzino was light yet filling, and melted in my mouth. This fish is served with bones so just a heads up if you decide to try it. I also had a chance to try the truffle butter whipped potatoes, the Brussels sprouts, asparagus, and risotto side dishes. I enjoyed all of these side dishes but the potatoes were my favorite. We ended our evening with dessert. I opted for the salted caramel ice cream. One of my friends tried the chocolate cake and I wasn't a fan due to the peanut butter layer. It wasn't bad but it reminded me of a nutty buddy bar. Overall we had a great time and the chef stopped by to personally thank our table for dining at Monarch. Filet was so tough it could not be cut with a steak night. I have had filets all over the world and never have I had one so tough. Sure after pointing out that it was a rock, they brought another and it was extremely overcooked. Did our waiter check? No. Glasses were left empty for 45 minutes with no follow up by the staff. Pros: Wow, the food was top notch. We can see why people were singing praises about their Italian dishes. We ordered their fried cacio de pepe, meatballs, crudo, and wagyu carpaccio for appetizers. Our favorite was the carpaccio where it melted in our mouths. The sliced truffle and truffle oil were heavenly. Our least favorite was the cacio de pepe where it tasted more like mashed potato and parmesan cheese fried like a churro. For our entrees, we got the truffle risotto and bolognese. The risotto, again, melted in your mouth and was super creamy. You can tell the bolognese was made from scratch and the pasta texture was very fresh. More of our favorites were from the appetizers than the entrees. The must-get: meatballs and carpaccio. P.S. the complimentary bread was dying for... we wanted more but needed room for the rest of the dishes. It comes with risotto cheese in honey, olives, and pieces of salami. Cons: I made a two-month advanced reservation for an anniversary dinner with my boyfriend. I wasn't expecting a complimentary cake but at least a window seat. However, we were seated at a table next to a door to a private event room where waiters were going in and out to get extra chairs and wine glasses. Not sure how they are seating people and what the point is to ask if it is a special occasion. I was disappointed in our seating arrangement but the quality of the meal made it up. I went here last week on a Monday night with my boyfriend. We couldn't get a reservation over the weekend and were only able to get a 815 PM reservation on a Monday (expected as this is a new and popular restaurant). Upon entering the establishment, we were greeted with complimentary champagne before taking the elevator to the restaurant. Once we got to the restaurant, we were promptly seated. We asked for window seating but they didn't have any available. However, we liked the seats we got, maybe even better than window seating. We were seated in a booth that faces out to the restaurant. I'm a big ambience person and it was pretty good-there's a great view and the interior is really pretty. There's a bar in the middle of the restaurant with beautiful chandeliers. My only complaint is that its pretty crowded and can get loud. Our server was Ty (?) and he was very helpful, gave great recommendations and overall was very impressive. Our food came out pretty fast; I think there was some confusion with the complimentary bread when we asked for more because two different people brought some (haha). It was nice to have too much service then not enough. We started off with a complimentary charcuterie type appetizer. We then got the half order of meatballs and the prawns. Both were really good and pretty filling! We are big meat lovers but had eaten a lot of meat over the weekend so wanted to go with a seafood dish. I also wanted to try some pasta so we ended up getting the lobster spaghetti which was super delicious! It was very unique and cooked very well. We also go mushrooms on the side; we didn't end up eating it as it was salty. Upon letting Ty know, he offered to bring us a new batch and pack it for us to go. We finished with chocolate peanut butter cake which was also very good. Lastly, Ty brought us some more champagne because we told him it was my birthday. We were kindly invited back after our previous poor service experience. To say that Monarch and it's staff made up for the poor experience is an understatement. There appeared to be more service managers on the floor monitoring things. Whether this is true or not is largely irrelevant as their presence made it feel like they were more committed to an excellent experience for each and every guest. The food is top-notch. Period. End of story. Every plate is precisely put together with the exact amount of ingredients to create the most balanced and flavorful taste imaginable. Everything tasted as if it was freshly picked, farmed, caught, etc. You must try this place. The food is something I will not soon forget. We found out after having to take a 10pm reservation that ***you don't need a reservation to eat dinner here***, just ask to go to the Chandelier Lounge (it is first come, first serve though). We even called at 8pm to see if they had had any earlier cancellations so we didn't have to wait till 10 o'clock to go and they did not tell us this information until we were there for our 10PM reservation. We would have really liked to have come earlier and since they knew that it would have been nice to know earlier. Attire is definitely business at a minimum, to cocktail. I wore a dress and my date wore a button-up shirt with slacks. When we got there we were greeted with champagne In the hotel lobby then started with a drink in the Chandelier Lounge. When our table was ready we were taken to the dining room. I immediately wanted to go back to the quiet and intimate chandelier Lounge. The dining room was SO loud that I couldn't even hear my date across the table, and the table behind us was a large party that was absolutely *screaming*. Unfortunately the noise level was anything but intimate and romantic. It was also so dark that a lot of people were using there phone lights to read the menu or holding menus next to the candles. I actually had to use my phone light at one point to see what our appetizer even was!! We were brought bread and light charcuterie to start- bread, honey butter, spiced olives and a salami. Then we started with the carpaccio and hummus appetizers. The carpaccio was very over dressed, it would have been nice to have tasted the wagu without being drowned in pepper and horse radish! The hummus was phenomenal, we weren't sure how they improved upon humble hummus but they did! For dinner we ordered the halibut, and the shrimp scampi ravioli. The sides we ordered were the woodfired oyster mushrooms and the summer squash. Unfortunately the mushrooms were so salty we couldn't eat them. Everything else was perfect though. For desert we ordered the passion fruit toffee pudding. After dinner they gave us a box of truffles to take home and invited us up to the sushi restaurant on the next floor for after dinner drinks. The view was amazing and you could take your drink to a private table around the perimeter of the building off from the sushi restaurant. Overall this was well worth the experience on our one night in Dallas and we would definitely come back, albeit earlier, and hopefully on a quieter night! read more

The food was delicious and savory. It's what you expect and beyond. We had wagu Japanses A5 filet and a 18 oz bone in filet mignon as our entrees. Our appetizers were wood roasted meatballs and black truffle risotto. As the share able sides we had black truffle mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. All the food was flavorful. For dessert we had apple soufflé and a tiramisu delicious ! Very lite and it overwhelming. The service from the server could of of been better. He could of been more attentive and suggested more options. He seem not invested in the evening. Overall the food was worth it! Service could of been better. Attire was not fully enforced. Some people were wearing jeans and non collar shirts. The atmosphere was fun and enjoyable. We also enjoyed the two cocktails from the menu . Initially our waitress was attentive and friendly, but it went downhill quickly from there. After ordering drinks we waited and waited for further interaction from our waitress. We ended up waiting close to 15 minutes to order food and then waited for her to check on us to see if we would like another round of drinks. Finally ordered the drinks arrived moments before our good was delivered. She never checked in to see how our meals were, one was cold when delivered. Never saw our waitress until the table was mostly cleared. Felt like we were a bother to serve, so I don't expect to ho back. The entire experience was less than expected for the setting and price. Unlike most places with exceptional views, such as Monarch's, the food actually lived up to it. This is a spot for most people to see and be seen, but for me it was a great spot to gorge myself. The tomahawk was what dreams are made of. The char on the outside was exceptional, practically blackened, so you could taste the flames. The inside was a med rare minus probably, but that didn't slow me down. The wood fired oyster mushrooms paired perfectly and are a steal at $12. Also, the ability to execute a perfect Cacio e Pepe and a steak, such as Monarch did, is a rare feat. Such a stellar spot. read more

my husband took me here for our anniversary dinner and it was very memorable. it definitely is THE place for celebrations. they print out little flyers on old menus commemorating what the occasion was for (which impresses me with how good their servers/hosts memories are). we lucked out and got a booth with a view. We decided to celebrate our best friends 21st birthday here at Monarch in Dallas. Valet was very quick & easy, was only $10. Contrary to other peoples experiences, we weren't fortunate enough to be greeted with complimentary glasses of champagne at the elevator, nor were there any birthday shots given. That was a bit of a disappointment, but nothing that should cost a star. Once we exited the elevator, we were immediately welcomed & directed toward the entrance of the restaurant itself. We notified them of our reservation & were seated very soon after. Our table was set to dine with a plate, fork & knife, cloth napkin, wine glass, and water glass beforehand. Our waiter presented us each with our own menu & asked what our beverage of choice would be. He also suggested some drinks that were not on the menu. Dress code-- Business casual or "better." The restaurant website does state, no hats, ripped jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, flip flops, shorts or sweats. The men during our visit were following the dress code and wearing business casual, the women were wearing simple dresses, coats, & some in blouses & nice jeans. I did see men & women with jeans, so that seems to be okay to wear but not common. Most of the guests had business casual attire as requested by Monarch. I saw one gentleman sporting a Gucci cap, ripped jean jacket, a t-shirt, & Gucci sweats, with tennis shoes so I'm assuming that's considered better than business casual. Our party stuck to business casual. Seating-- The table did not feel cramped with 4 people seated, the seats were very comfortable & easy to move back & forth. Unfortunately, we did not know a booth(window table) had to be requested to be seated there so we were sat in the middle area of the room. A window table is $125 per person & must be requested/reserved ahead of time online. But our experience was fantastic regardless of sacrificing the city view. Food-- We decided on Caesar salad to share as a starter, the salad tasted great & the croutons had a perfect texture. As for entrées, we had the Fire-Seared King Salmon & the Wood-Grilled Chicken; The salmon tasted amazing & was extremely tender and full of flavor, although I must say I felt as though the pistachio gremolata was a bit overwhelming as far as the amount provided & difference in texture in contrast to the wonderful salmon. The heirloom citrus did compliment the salmon very well in my honest opinion. The Wood-Grilled chicken was grilled to perfection & so juicy and tender. The lemon, thyme, & salsa verde really brought the dish together. As a shared side, we decided on the Shortrib Bolognese; tasted absolutely fantastic & was large enough for 4 people to get a good portion. We passed on dessert because everyone was full & satisfied. Service-- The service was more than great, Our waiter ensured each of our guests were satisfied with their choices & continued to check in on us. From starters, to entrées, to sides, our plates & cutlery were always replaced with fresh sets for the next dish. Our drinks were never empty as staff/our waiter would consistently refill our waters & replace our drinks. Come time for dessert, we were each given a small menu with choices of dessert & even then our waiter had off-the-menu suggestions. We truly admired the menu knowledge & politeness of our waiter. This made the experience signature to Monarch because it was that great. As mentioned before, it was our best friends 21st birthday so we did expect something from the restaurant for him, but were instead given a copy of the menu with "Happy 21st Birthday Bryson!" printed over the center of it. That was quite odd & was hard to be excited about. Nevertheless, it was cute. Prices-- My tab totaled out to just over $230 for everyone, The salmon was just under $50 (x3), the chicken was $32, and the pasta was only $20 (all before tax.) We definitely felt that the prices were well worth each platter judging off of the presentation, textures, flavors, & overall satisfaction. Monarch is definitely one to experience! I ordered the parm encrusted veal because the waiter recommended it. they pounded it so flat and breaded it so thick that I couldn't taste the veal. it tasted like breading. the asparagus was way over salted so generally a disappointment. nice atmosphere, but fair service as we had to flag down the waiter to refill wine and i requested bread twice for the pasta sauce and gave up because they never brought it. I've been here for dinner ones and drinks a few times at the Thompson. It can be very difficult to get a dinner reservation during the weekend, so make one well in advance. This is definitely a money grabbing "luxury" establishment with a nice view and ambiance. There is free valet parking for restaurant goers which is great as this is smack in the middle of downtown. You get a glass of champagne on the main floor before you walk into the elevator. The hostess would have been more polite and I felt the dress code was enforced only to certain patrons. If you want a window view you have pay for that and if you are there for the view that really is the only place on which you get the full experience. I was seated across from a window and I'm tall so I was able to enjoy the view on a rainy day. The pasta was just okay as far as taste, I love Italian food and this could have been seasoned better. The lobster was fresh and a good size. The mashed potatoes were creamy and wonderful. I personally won't be back for dinner as I feel the prices are just extremely high for what you get.
