Very unimpressed and even more sad that we spent my husbands birthday dinner at Monarch. We were greeted with champagne for the ride up to the 49th floor. The restaurant itself is aesthetically pleasing and the view is nice, but honestly that's the only thing that was really impressive. We ordered two drinks, neither one tasted like it had any alcohol in it. I don't even remember the names of these drinks. We started with two pastas, the black truffle risotto and the mommas spicy rigatoni. The black truffle risotto was mushy and salty. The rigatoni had no taste. Overall, unimpressed with the pasta dishes. We ordered two entrees, the Bronzed sea scallops and Comte crusted filet. The scallops were blah tasting and didn't really have too much seasoning to them. My husband ordered the filet, and you would have thought it was a child's plate. The serving size for the filet was tiny and did not taste as good as other steaks we have had at other fine dining restaurants. We were excited about our sides that we ordered which was the truffle mashed potatoes and the oyster mushrooms....both sides were salty and we didn't even finish them. Overall, very unimpressed with the food and we were upset we spent his bday dinner at Monarch. I was hoping for a better experience. read more

Celebrating my husband 50 th birthday we were meet with opposition about a sports jacket we easily complied he put it on we keep it moving as i look around there are several people with T shirts but they were white. It happens right ? As we have several drinks before being seated once at the table he takes the jacket off for comfort because in all honesty who eats with a jacket on. I deem it as harassment to continue to revisit our table about a 350 dollar Etro dress T . I believe in kindness and customers service so just make sure rules apply to all your guest just not your black guest . read more

Great atmosphere and setting with wonderful views. We were welcomed and seated promptly at our reserved time. Initially our waitress was attentive and friendly, but it went downhill quickly from there. After ordering drinks we waited and waited for further interaction from our waitress. We ended up waiting close to 15 minutes to order food and then waited for her to check on us to see if we would like another round of drinks. Finally ordered the drinks arrived moments before our good was delivered. She never checked in to see how our meals were, one was cold when delivered. Never saw our waitress until the table was mostly cleared. Felt like we were a bother to serve, so I don't expect to ho back. The entire experience was less than expected for the setting and price. To start, this is really tasty food, amazing cocktails, with a really good view! Probably the best view in Dallas and way better dining then at reunion tower. Can't give it 5 starts because the whole experience seems like the place can't figure out what it wants to be... For the price point, and hype around the restaurant, I was shocked to valet cost $10! There are cheaper steakhouses around the city that do not charge for valet! As you walk into the lobby, there is a table set up and you are greeted with champagne before you head up 49 floors to the restaurant! Don't get too excited, my high school prom had nicer champagne! It's all felt really gimmicky! The service was the main issue here! To start our waiter was very nice, however, the ridiculous attempts to sell more and be over zealous was just not the service I expect at a establishment like this! The other issue with service was we felt as though they kept trying to rush us out! As we were eating our dinner the dessert menu was brought out! Plates were rushed to be cleared and half glasses of drinks were asked if we wanted more! Despite all this, know the food was really good and definitely try one of their cocktails! We came here to celebrate our Anniversary and Oh My My!! We loved it!! Our waiter Ryan was very attentive and explained the menu very well. The staff over all is excellent and they make sure you have refills on your drinks when needed. All the cocktails we ordered were great. Everything that we ordered as shown on these pictures was cooked perfectly and with such great flavor !!! We pretty much shared everything that we ordered and enjoyed everything! Had the pleasure of first time visiting Monarch this past Saturday. Just wanted to give some feedback on the experience. The food was truly delicious, would absolutely comeback because of that. 10/10 Service was great too, and loved our waitress.10/10 My only complain which honestly did make the night very uncomfortable and didn't really let us enjoy our anniversary dinner was that we got sat in a table for two right next to the server station. That meant that all night, I had servers/ managers bumping into me through out the night. At some points in the night, there were 2-3 servers trying to place orders, get plates, or silverware that I literally had to get up my seat so they could move around, or their back would be literally rubbing against my shoulder. While rearranging, stocking, or grabbing silverware and plates, it would become so loud that we would have to stop our conversation until they were done with that. I brought it up to the manager, but nothing changed I understand that you are trying to fit as many tables as possible, but I think that for a price point and for the caliber of a restaurant that you are... it's not fair for us customers to not enjoy our visit. read more

This restaurant is located in our hotel, The Thompson. We came to grab a late dinner after an evening flight. A hostess offers free champagne for your ride up to the 49th floor. Nice touch! We just needed a little food so we shared an appetizer, meal, and took dessert to go. The atmosphere, food, and service were all top notch. I was tended to by bartenders, Mike, Justin and Xavier. There was never a moment I didn't feel like their #1priority and for that I am so grateful. Where do I start... Reservations for 9:00pm on a Thursday, not taken to our table until 9:45, when we were walked to our table, they had already seated it to what seemed like a homie hookup type situation. The guy who snaked our table tried to bring us some Champagne to "make it better." Then we waited standing in the bar area for another 10 minutes before being seated in the bar. We asked for bottled water and they said they ran out. I actually feel sorry for the wait staff having to interface with customers who have already dealt with so much frustration before they're even seated. The service didn't get any better either, the waitress tried to offer us drinks on her because she was aware of the ordeal we dealt with to be seated but then ended up charging us for them. Also, we were charged for the bottled water that they didn't have and had to ask to have it removed from the bill. The waitress offered us drinks on her then charged me for the whiskey i asked for. Food was a joke for the price. I had the dry aged ribeye that was $120 or so. The caesar salad was really the only thing that was noteworthy. The pasta my girl had was meh at best. The management never came over to apologize or check in with us. This is an overhyped spot where they marketed very well through social media that falls flat with regard to service and food. The management is a joke based on our experience, tons of opportunities to redeem, but no action taken. In fact, id be willing to bet their only recourse is a response on here apologizing for our experience and hoping we will give it another chance. My recommendation to management is to stop overbooking the restaurant (shouldn't have to wait 45 min past reservation time), actually give a damn about customer experiences (seek feedback from dining customers like us), and train your staff to provide a premium service that matches the price point. Do yourself a favor and go to Nick & Sams! read more

A lovely evening experience. Normally these high rise restaurants get lackluster with the food as they have an audience coming for the views, but not so at Monarch. Aside from the bad bubbles handed out on the elevator ride up (nice touch though!) to the 49th floor, everything was really good. I started with the best Manhattan I've had in awhile. I wish I had through to ask what bourbon they used to make it. This was followed with a starter of wood fired meatballs. They were served in cast iron in a tomato based sauce and were absolutely delicious. I got a Caesar salad next, which the server indicated would be big enough to split. However, I was hungry so I ate it all. There was no table side preparation which I had been secretly hoping for, but it was delicious. For my main I got the Shortrib Bolognese. I would absolutely do so again, though the portion was a bit small so next time I might split another entree with someone else at the table. The restaurant is happy to split dishes and serves them split from the kitchen as they did for steak for others at my table. From the to share sides I tried the mushrooms, the beans and the roasted artichokes. All of them were very good. Those 3 sides were enough to share with four or five people. To end the night we did dessert, which unfortunately fell a bit flat for me. The olive oil cake, which I normally like, was not a favorite. It was very charred and the blackened cake didn't taste right to me. The Toffee Cake Pudding was gooey and good, but lacked a distinct stand out flavor. read more

Me-Time Monday at Monarch... Family, let me tell you. Superb customer service. You're greeted with a glass of champagne as you await your elevator. You ride up to the 49th floor where you're greeted and asked what time is your reservation, because you have to have one. Cameron was my most attentive waiter this evening. I knew by his "Fresh Prince" lapel pin he was gonna be aight. My seat was in an area where you could overlook Vickory Park & Trinity Groves. My drink for the evening was "The Dutchess" and my entrée was the filet. Delish... It's an Italian restaurant, so I will return to try the pastas. read more

Grab your free Champagne on your way to the elevator. You will be dinning downtown at The National building. You'll find some of the best skyline views. (even while going to the restroom) I wish I could tell you I ordered The Royale or Live Alaskan King Crab. You'll have to wait until I win the lottery. The fresh bread and butter to start was amazing. The Fritto Misto di Mare and Wood-Fired Meatballs were the best appetizers and really yummy. I loved the sauce the Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka came with. I did get the Wood-Oven Chicken which unfortunately lacked flavor - even with the sauce they come and pour on it, that dish was disappointing. Everything looked and smelled so good that I didn't even think about taking photos of the dishes (oops... good thing that others already have). Needless to say, it was worth the couple month wait. Our reservation was for six people at 7:45 pm on a Saturday. We arrived right on time and enjoyed our glass of bubbles on the elevator ride up to the restaurant. Our table wasn't ready upon check-in but we were invited to grab a drink at the bar. The main bar was pretty crowded and there was not a lot of standing room; luckily a server saw us and pulled us into the back Chandelier Bar area. We were able to get a cozy set up with a sofa, two lounge chairs, and two small cocktail tables. There was a server there to promptly take our drink order! Halfway through our first drink, our dinner table was ready and it was time to get the night started. I did request a table with a view (which is not guaranteed) and we did not get. However, I don't think any of the window side booths can accommodate parties of 6 - they all looked to be 2 or 4. Note that if you also don't get a view, you MUST go to the bathroom. One of the stalls has floor to ceiling windows ... one of the best Dallas views I have ever had. Now on to the important stuff... food! We ordered family style for all of the starters and pasta dishes. EVERYTHING was delicious... so much so that when we tried to pick our favorite dish at the end it was nearly impossible. We all agreed that the pasta dishes were the star of the show and what would keep us coming back though. My favorites: Drink = Secret Garden, Shared Plate = Meatballs, Pasta = Shrimp Scampi Ravioli, Entree = Prime Bone-In Filet Other dinner items that we ordered that were SO yummy: Texas Wagyu Carpaccio, Tuna Tartare, Shortrib Bolognese, Momma's Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka. read more

Monarch is a very upscale restaurant in the same building as The Thompson Hotel. The room had a nice view of the city and it's very comfortable for a couple or a small group. Dressy style so t shirt and shorts would be out of place. Food is excellent and most dishes are shareable. We had one of the best rib steaks I've tried, and we especially enjoyed the octopus and the ravioli. Impressive wine list by the glass or bottle. Not good. Then when the wine did come, they poured and took off with the bottle? It took me the entire meal to get that bottle back meaning my wine glass was empty for half of my meal. Not good. Had a hard time getting our waiters attention so concerned the waiter to customer ratio is too low for a high end place like this. I would give them more stars but they failed on the wine service. Probably the best meal my wife and I have had in 20 years! The filet and the dover sole were cooked to perfection, but the green beans and black truffle risotto were the stars of the evening . Of course, they were almost eclipsed by the delicata squash salad! The view is spectacular and the 360 degree walk around on the 50th floor, one floor up was stupendous! But none of that was the reason to go back: the staff is the reason, from the doorman to the hostess to the table captains and servers to the chef, these were the NICEST PEOPLE ANYWHERE! We started my wife's birthday dinner with a car wreck on the way that made us late. Not only did they seat us anyway, they moved us to the best window table to make up for our bad start!! Everything about my experience was phenomenal aside from the wait time. I made a reservation however I believe due to it being for 8pm it was quite crowed. My self and my guest waited at the bar until our table was ready. The food was delicious, and our waiter was appropriately attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant is very romantic and upscale. Absolutely horrible, I got the Thanksgiving dinner and it came with a side of pasta with turkey leg meat that was SO salty that I could only take two bites. The stuffing was cold. Not to mention the turkey was unbelievably hard no flavor and not to mention room temp AT BEST. The worst part was the fact that we went there to have a nice Thanksgiving meal willingly paying for the experience but ended up just paying for overpriced food that I without a doubt could have had better Turkey from Dennis. I had been itching to come to Monarch as I had heard rave reviews and we ended up having a great time. For starters, you get a complimentary glass of champagne to drink in the elevator on the way up to the 49th floor. Very classy. The atmosphere was very nice and the view was incredible. My friend and I went for golden hour where we shared the oysters and we each got a cocktail. I got a whiskey drink and he got French 75 and we were both impressed with our drinks. The oysters were the star of the show though... they came with a trio of sauces: cocktail, a spicy sauce, and a cucumber based sauce. We were advised to put both the spicy sauce and the cucumber sauce on our oysters and they were right... it was incredible. The only weird thing was that apparently oysters had been taken off Golden Hour pricing but were still on the Golden Hour menu that was brought to us by the waitress so when the bill came we saw we were charged full price and when we brought it up to the waitress she said the manager told her there was no way they could give us the discounted price. Kinda strange, though the oysters were well worth full price. We had a great experience from the view to the oysters to the drinks. Can't wait to come back and try dinner here! read more
