Views, good food, good wine and good company. We had a lovely 30th birthday dinner with my boyfriend's family at Monarch on a Sunday evening. Your options to park here are to valet for 10 dollars or parking in the garages surrounding the building. We opted for the valet and it was really easy and convenient. At arrival, we were given a glass of complementary champagne for our 49 floor elevator ride. They will not seat you until your entire party has arrived so we sat in some of the cocktail tables in the front of the bar while we waited. We were seated on the inside of the restaurant and from what I can see online- if you want a seat with a window, you have to reserve them in advance and will include a fee. When we asked a few questions about wine, the Sommelier came to talk about their wine selection and chose a great bottle of wine for us to enjoy. Our server helped us to choose enough food for the table and recommended we take a family style approach. Loved the salami, olives and bread service. Such a welcoming touch. The wagyu steak was easily a 10/10 in taste- I just wish it came with a little more garnish. All sides are sold separately, but you could through a caramelized onion or some micro greens on that plate to justify that 200 dollar price tag. We loved the octopus! The grilled prawns were a solid 7/10, great flavor but very expensive for what you get. I ordered the spicy rigatoni a la vodka (9/10, not as good as carbone but a close second). Ordered the meatballs as a compliment and to add some protein. Great combo. We tried the chocolate cake and the toffee cake for dessert- the chocolate cake won my heart. If you love chocolate pb banana, it's a win. The toffee cake was sweet and would go well with a coffee. The end stall of the womens restroom has a great view of downtown and is worth waiting for the stall. Also be sure to take a photo in their cute little flower thrown by the restrooms. My goal for the year is to eat at every restaurant that showed up on the Michelin list. I regularly eat at some of these, but I am on a mission to eat at all of them this year. Just as background, my son is a fine dining Chef and I am a foodie and have eaten at numerous high-end and Michelin restaurants in the US and Europe. Occasion: 60th Birthday party of 5. Restaurant: Beautiful restaurant. Was greeted with champagne at the bottom elevator as we were waiting to go up. We arrived a bit early so sat in the bar area and had a drink. This is a nice area to sit and have a drink. Since it was a special occasion they seated us by a window which just happened to overlook my wife's favorite building in downtown Dallas. Drinks: All cocktails were good and fairly priced. Appetizers: We had the Wood Fired Meatballs, Texas Waygu Carpaccio and Caesar Salads. All of these items were terrific. The Meatballs were good, but were Meatball. The Carpaccio and Caesar Salad were extremely good. Mains: Short Rib Bolognese, Wood Oven Chicken, Veal Chop and the Filet. All were perfectly cooked and well presented. Top 2 were the Short Rib and Veal Chop. For the sides, were had the Asaparagus, Mushrooms and Mashed Potatoes. All were good, but these were some of the best Mashed Potatoes ever. Dessert: They comped us a chocolate cake for the birthday. It was moist with great flavor and presented nicely. Service: This was great. Table servers were prompt and attentive. Some of the better service in the Dallas restaurant scene. Chef: Chef Dreyer came out a greeted and conversed with our party which was extremely nice of him. Overall: Price for the 5 of us was around $500+. This is an interesting one. I've heard about Monarch for years and already been to Kessaku upstairs. It's nice and upscale but less formal than I was expecting. Obviously the view is crazy and you should try for a window reservation. The food was great and surprising as well. The bread comes with fine butter, cured meat and olives. Best table bread I've ever had. I could get two orders and make a lunch out of it. The oysters were petite but very tasty. The spicy rigatoni was good and my friend liked their helix pasta but I'm still thinking about those appetizers. We were super excited to come in and celebrate our anniversary here. I initially booked online a few weeks before through my capital one app for "exclusive dining" was the option I chose. Not sure if it's just a weird mix up but I assumed it would be great seating. Anyways, I called the day before just to make sure they had my reservation since I usually expect a call or text the day prior to confirm the booking and was a bit worried. After calling I told her about the seating but she said it wasn't anything specific just normal table seating and in order to get a window seating I would have to pay 125PP and it would be credited to the bill. I said ok that's fine and did it because I asked for the best seating there. Upon arrival you can valet for only 10$ (pay with card only at the end) and walk into the building to be greeted with champagne as you then go up to the 49th floor. As they took us to our seats I was really disappointed to see we were tucked all the way in the very corner in a really tight booth seated for two and the view was almost blocked by a huge tall building. I seriously expected to have the regular dining table with the full view of the city as requested. Especially since I had to change my original 6pm to 7:30pm for that window seat. Our server Bam was really attentive and helpful as it was our first time and we tried a ton of different food! throughout the evening we had each dish come out in a timely manner, and our drinks were always filled so the service was excellent. We each tried two drinks and they were all pretty good, we tried four different cocktails. For food, we tried the Frito misto for appetizer. It was pretty small in portion for the cost however, it was really good but heavily seasoned so some people may not like that. We also tried the spicy vodka pasta, eggplant Parmesan and then our last dish was ribeye, short rib bolognese pasta, & garlic mashed potatoes. Everything was very very good and flavor was on point. I have no complaints at all. We did spend right over $300 for the night. I also feel like at this cost and high end a small "celebratory" dessert is always a really nice touch that they did not offer. Pretty pricy but it is a fine dining experience you will enjoy. Last pointer, they print out a special menu for you and for us it was "Happy 11th" Anniversary but it was our 10th anniversary so they did get that wrong but I can understand the confusion there because I said it was our 1 year married and 10 total years together I was a little jealous seeing that others had a little kickstand to hold it up on their table, and ours was just handed to us from the server, which didn't make it as special in my opinion. There was no offer of prosecco upon arrival anymore, our server denied us another round of complimentary bread even tho every other time they've brought us more if we asked. Welll...obviously a hot spot in town for celebrations,dates or night out. Located on the 49th floor which gives you a phenomenal view of downtown. We were there to celebrate my birthday. In order to reserve the table you have to prepay 125$ per person which is applied to your bill, however, does not include gratuity, tax, or drinks if you sit at the bar while waiting for your table to be ready. Hostesses were not happy to see us last night, which gives a terrible first impression overall, when we got to our table the waiter acknowledged that we are here because of my birthday and handed me their menu with happy birthday printed out on it. Now food: they do give you a bread basket and olives, appetizers we ordered crude and prawns they were good The main course we ordered steak, salmon, broccolini and mashed potatoes and this is where my disappointment came the food did not arrive all together(see attached pics), I value the etiquette of dining with company and usually everybody waits until everyone receives their dish. Food was good no complaint there, I did receive a complimentary dessert which I chose from dessert menu, I chose chocolate cake and it was deliciouuuus!!!! Cocktails were veryyyy well made, I got one of the cocktails in a broken glass but the second I pointed it out my drink was replaced so no big deal there. FINALLY the special occasion restaurant in Dallas that we've been looking for. The whole thing is an experience. When we arrived at the building, we were served complimentary glass of champagne. We headed to the elevators were seated promptly for our reservation (even got a window seat). The captain was friendly and helpful. I got the island boy cocktail which was refreshing. We were served a bread basket with the most delicious flakey buttery bread served alongside a ricotta, honey, truffle spread. Mouthwatering. We also got a few pieces of salami and olives (my fave). We shared the crudo and the caesar salad which came split for us. The caesar was loaded with parm and lemon zest which is a nice touch. We shared the veal parm and the truffle risotto both of which were outstanding. The veal was thin and crispy. The risotto was rich and decadent. We ended with the signature chocolate cake which combined all my favorite things (chocolate, banana, and peanut butter) and they even gave me a box of turkish delight as a birthday "gift". Really awesome experience. As soon as you walk into the lobby, they serve you a welcome glass of champagne. You head in the elevator up to the 49th floor and are greeted by hostess! The interior is just amazing, gold everywhere and the entire restaurant is surrounded by windows with a great view. To top it off, they have a Sommelier who can come to your table and help with wine selections. We loved our wine bottles that we ended up ordering. We started off with the Fritto Misto and the Meatball appetizers. The meatballs were amazing but the calamari was not good at all. The server noticed we didn't eat any of it and just took it off the table without asking if we were done or if there was something wrong with it - so that was odd. For entrees, we had the shrimp scampi ravioli, the rigatoni, short rib bolognese and a side of the truffle mashed potatoes. The truffle mashed potatoes were so creamy and tasty! Our favorite entree was the rigatoni vodka - it was so flavorful and the perfect amount of food. We had a reservation and arrived on time, but upon entering we found a large crowd waiting and still had to wait almost 30 minutes for our table despite booking in advance. Our server was polite but nothing more. From the moment we sat down, it felt as though he was just waiting for us to leave. For starters, we ordered carpaccio, crudo, and a Caesar salad - all of which were very tasty. However, for the main course we ordered a ribeye and vodka sauce pasta, and were very disappointed. The steak was tough and chewy, and the pasta was harder than al dente. When the server asked if the food was good, we gave a clear expression that it really wasn't. We expected him to ask what was wrong or at least make an effort to address it - especially at a restaurant that presents itself as upscale with a strict dress code - but instead he just said "okay" and walked away. We asked for the check; he didn't ask why the food was left untouched, nor did he offer a dessert menu. It was clear he was just waiting for us to leave, which was very disappointing. Where do I begin I made reservations for my birthday. I had friends travel to celebrate my birthday from Louisiana and Michigan. When I say this was a horrible experience. I had to make two reservations due to the large party at which I had been conversing with someone through text. I get to the establishment to discover one of the reservations had been canceled apparently a text was sent and I didn't reply and my reservation got canceled which was an error on my behalf. I attempted to explain I had been texting someone and that I didn't know I needed to confirm the reservation again. As I was talking Wheme walks up asking what was going on I attempted to explain the situation she goes on to say your second reservation was canceled what do you want to do. (Rudely )I was very disappointed on the customer service provided she didn't attempt to assist. I couldn't cancel the other reservation due to the cancellation policy. We looked online an saw it had a reservation available which could have been offered. I was so over it due to treatment and tone I felt as I wasn't desired at the establishment. Thank God for my girlfriends we were not gonna let Wheme spoil our night. After we worked it out I must say the good was delicious. I had the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli which was scrumptious and a Porn star Martini. I love the ambiance. The reason I gave it two stars was due to the service received and how I was treated. read more

Monarch arrived in Dallas in March of 2021, just as things were opening back up from the pandemic lockdowns. Despite the challenges of those times, Monarch quickly became 'that restaurant' which meant reservations were difficult to come by. Two years later, and Monarch is still 'that restaurant'; while reservations are a little easier to come by, I recommend planning ahead by 3-4 weeks (especially, if dining on the weekend). I have dined here several times and each time the experience is equally as awesome as the previous times. I have never experienced a drop-off in service or quality of food; the experience always remains top notch. From arrival to departure, everyone is always warm and welcoming. To start with, upon arriving, a stop at the complimentary champagne stand is a must. Being the start of the dining experience, the staff here is always greeting with a smile. I recommend arriving a little early so you can sit in the lobby and thoroughly enjoy your flute of champagne. The staff here will also give you directions to the elevator that goes up to the 49th floor where the restaurant is located. Once arriving that actual restaurant, it's like the perfect handoff has occurred as the host/hostess are just as warm and welcoming as the staff encountered at the champagne stand. On each visit, within minutes of checking in with the host/hostess, I am escorted to the table. In the dining area, seating consists of tables/chairs, small booths for two along with larger booths that will comfortably seat 4. Also, when making the reservation, I highly recommend requesting a booth along the windows and enjoy the amazing views that come along with it. Note, while they try to accommodate window requests through general reservations, a window seat can be guaranteed with a deposit (call the restaurant for details). Like the first handoff, once seated, within seconds the server quickly approaches the table and introduces themselves. In all my visits, the servers have been friendly, professional and very knowledgeable of the menu plus any specials that are available. They do an excellent job of being just present enough so that you are not searching for them which makes for a relaxing dining experience. Lastly, I appreciate that when the entrées are delivered to the table, the servers introduce each item along with any sauces, etc. to make certain you know what you are having. I wish more places did this. In addition to the servers, Monarch has some amazing sommeliers who have never failed to recommend a great pairing with my dinner selection. As for the food, zero complaints for me. For starters, I tend to always get the Chopped Salad as it is tasty (note, it's also big enough to share or have leftovers for the next day). If you are looking for something other than salad as a starter, I highly recommend the ravioli. While it's listed as an entrée, it's the perfect size for sharing as a starter. As for the main entrée, everything I have tried has always been delicious. My favorites include the Ora King Salmon and the Wood-Oven Chicken (for me, it is easily a top 5-best chicken entrée). Also, do not sleep on the sides!! While there are only a small number of options, they all are awesome. My favorites are the Black Truffle Risotto and Fire-Roasted Broccolini. The green beans are also tasty. Lastly, be sure to leave room for dessert as these are tasty too. My favorite is the tiramisu which is superb. I recommend pairing it with their espresso martini...you can thank me later. When it comes to parking, as Monarch is located downtown, there are various garages in the area along with some street parking. Valet parking, which is shared with the Thompson hotel, is available for a fee. There is an option to have your car parked out front which comes with an increased fee. Otherwise, they park in the garage that is a part of the building. The valet parking is the area that needs improving; they do a great job in taking your car upon arrival but when it's time to leave, it takes a lot longer than what I am used to. Whether you are looking for an awesome place to celebrate a special occasion or you just want an upscale dining experience, Monarch should be on your list. Monarch continues to be my favorite restaurant in the area, and I look forward to many more visits. read more

Truly one of the best dining experiences that I have had recently! The views are great too with an ear popping ride to the 49th floor. Service was brilliant with not only help to navigate the menu but also explaining the quirk of the restaurant to have the order complete in one go. (No worries there as everything still came out perfectly paced for a mostly family style dining experience) The Spanish Grilled Octopus - confit potato, roasted almond romesco, crispy guanciale was delightful. The Wood-Fired Meatballs - tomato crudo, basil, buffalo milk mozzarella were a perfect match to the table bread service. Getting into the main meal we shared a 45 Day Dry-Aged Tomahawk 38oz with unique Fire Roasted Lasagna Diane - baby meatballs, ricotta, cheese crust. Yes, the lasagna is unique as it is built sideways in rolls as compared to the usual offering. In fact, if you Google "Fire Roasted Lasagna Diane" Monarch is what comes up first. On the side, the Wood Oven-Roasted Oyster Mushrooms - calabrian pepper jus, parmesan aioli (that the waiter highly recommended) and the Garlic Whipped Potatoes make for perfect adds to the already great meal. Yes, the mushrooms turned out to be an absolute must have. My only complaint, and I am not sure if I could really call it as such, was the seemingly constant checking in while waiting for the rest of our party to navigate the Dallas traffic getting there a bit beyond the official grace period of the reservation. Let me start by saying that the place is a high-end restaurant, you may get lucky and have an amazing view, it seems very popular for anniversaries and birthdays. I personally don't know if I would come back, but it's certainly nice for a celebration. They have a little bit of everything for every tastes, and I would say that the average including drink and food per person can be between $100-$200 depending what you actually like. They have salads, pasta, and some proteins (chicken) for around $35 the plate. A then the next level is around $70, they also have the high end which is +$200 per plate. Drinks must of the cocktails are about $20. The food was very well done, super tasty, and well portioned. We all ordered a protein and shared one side, but we had already had like 3 appetizers. The dessert was just OK, I was actually expecting for something more flavorful. Service was really nice, they were very attentive and knowledgeable. I had Monarch bookmarked on Yelp for a couple years under "Date Night". The opportunity finally presented itself when I went with a few ladies from an online social group Friday night. My experience couldn't have gone better. It started with the valet ($10) which was a breeze. I got there a little before 8pm and there was no wait. I walked in and was greeted at the elevator by a HANDSOME doorman dressed very nice in a suit jacket. He held the door and pressed the button going up to the 49th floor where the door opened to ANOTHER fine brotha who directed me to the host stand. I was the first to arrive in my party so I sat in the lounge bar area. I was greeted in no time by a friendly bartender. I passed on the $22 cocktails but realized I forgot the hotel offers complimentary Champagne so I went BACK down to get it. I love this welcoming touch! Soon after the rest of the 3 ladies arrived and we were sat in a circular table in the middle of the restaurant. I ordered branzino which I had before at another restaurant and loved it. I ate the truffle risotto an octopus which was ordered shared by the group and it was delicious! I highly recommend the risotto! My branzino had the BEST flavor and the fennel underneath was sautéed to perfection, and just as flavorful. My only grip was that I got a mouthful of bones in a few bites. I definitely didn't experience it when I ate branzino the 1st time so I was taken back but understand not all fish is prepared the same. I saved room for dessert and ordered the chocolate cake which was also delightful! When the bill came I was disappointed to find out it can only be split EQUALLY! Huh?!?! My meal only totaled $84! The four of us all paid and equal $112 and I just took it in stride because I did have risotto an octopus and half of a chocolate cake that another party didn't eat so it was alright. Just be mindful of that and also if you want to sit next to the window and have a gorgeous view of downtown Dallas, that'll cost! It's about $200 per person to sit there. The views of the city at night are just incredible. The hostess was accommodating when I told her our party size decreased from 8 to 6, and we were seated promptly, right on time for our reservation. We started off with the meatballs, which were delicious, and a table fave, and the tiger prawns, which were huge! For drinks, The Duchess and Perfect Vacation seemed to be the favorite. Our server Jenna was exceptional! She was friendly, extremely personable, and knew the menu very well. All was well up until she disappeared for quite a while when we were ready to order our entrees. I believe she got busy with her other tables. When she returned, I let her know, and she was super quick to make up for the delay. They brought us all a glass of champagne, the fritto misto appetizer (which was really good), and they comped two of our sides. I didn't expect all of that, and I was grateful for the way she handled it. She was on top of everything else for the rest of the night! Now for the entrees, we ordered the Shortrib Bolognese, Shrimp Scampi Ravioli, Black Truffle Risotto, Lobster Spaghetti, and the Wood-Grilled Chicken. The Shortrib was good but reminded me of the basic Chef Boyardee canned ravioli. It was good but nothing to rave about. The Shrimp Scampi was tasty, but the sauce was bit too watery inside the ravioli and caused the inside to lose flavor. With a thicker, richer sauce, this would be perfect. I didn't try the Lobster Spaghetti, but my friend said it was delicious and completely cleaned her plate. The wood-grilled chicken is a good pick! As well as my personal fave of the night, the truffle risotto. It's full of flavor. The sides really stood out to me here. It's rare that I try a place, and I love every side like I did at Monarch. The green beans, oyster mushrooms, asparagus, and garlic whipped potatoes were fantastic!! I mean, everyone raved about how amazing the sides were. Whatever they're doing here, they need to do the same with some of the entrees because they knocked it out of the park! The sides are family size, so we ordered one of each, and it was enough for the table. Unfortunately, we didn't have any space for dessert. We were stuffed! Next time I will make sure to leave room. Overall, I think this is a perfect place for any celebratory moment. OMG! Best meal I've had in Dallas. Amazing views and ambiance. Service was five stars! Juan was our waiter and was so professional and delightful. Started with drinks including Expesso martinis as well as Ketel One martini which were excellent! This was our first time here for our 30th anniversary and they had special printed menus for us that were unexpected and amazing! Gigantic wine list ( as big or bigger than anywhere else in Dallas for sure!}. We settled on an amazing bottle of Daou Reserve Cabernet! Yummy! Appetizers included the wood fired meatballs and fried calamari/shrimp/halibut. The meatballs were fantastic. Dinner included Filet Mignon, Veal Chop Parmesan and Rigatoni all'a Vodka with asparagus side. Unbelievable! That Veal Parmesan has to be one of he best things on the menu for sure. Dessert was the table side Tiramisu. Best I've ever had for sure. If you have a special occasion or just want a very special meal this is the place. Oh yeah did I mention the gorgeous views!!!!! Really fancy place; high-end dining spots are always great to enjoy in an intimate setting! Had dinner last week with 3 friends..was our first time and great experience! Food was excellent as well as service. The atmosphere and ambiance, great. We all had different menu items and enjoyed them all, especially the crispy chicken appetizer...just wow! can't wait to go back. There is outdoor and indoor seating. You can visibly see the cooks / chefs at work through the large glass kitchen wall. There are Flat screens throughout the restaurant to watch your fav sports teams. Be ready to open your wallet, but definitely worth the experience. Atmosphere/Ambiance/Experience - 5/5 - First, when you arrive, you are given a free glass of champagne as you walk toward the elevator. You pretty much fly up 49 floors to the top, as you prepare to enjoy a wonderful evening. The restaurant is very classy, and if you get a window view, really really enjoy it. It is somewhat breathtaking. We were seated toward the inside, with the really nice, comfy chairs. It worked out, because it was rainy this day, so a window view wouldn't have done our experience justice. Staff - 5/5 - What makes a staff 5/5? When they give you a card for future experiences. Honestly, the staff was amazing, and treated us like royalty. We were given another free glass of bubbly (big celebration), and were just helpful, kind and friendly. Great experience. Food - 5/5 - My goodness. We ordered many dishes, and I added a photo of my receipt to show all we ordered, plus what to expect at a place like this. We don't do this often, but I am a firm believer that if you are going to do something, DO IT RIGHT. What we ordered: 1. Crudo - $25 - 5/5 - The 3 different fish were very fresh. Highly recommend. 2. Texas Wagyu Carpaccio - $22 - 5/5 - Fan of raw beef? Get it. Not a fan? Get it anyway. 3. Lobster Spaghetti - $65 - 4.5/5 - Plenty of lobster meat for sure, but the pasta was....well...creamy pasta. Great presentation with the whole lobster. 4. Bronzed Sea Scallops - $44 - 3.5/5 - I am knocking this not because it didn't taste great. The reason is that for $44, I would like more than 2 scallops :). 5. Bistecca alla Fiorentina - $140 - 10/5 - What is this? Just a 40 OUNCE Porterhouse seared to perfection. I smoke and cook many, many cuts of meat, but wow. This is an ABSOLUTELY must get if you can get past the steep price. 6. Mushrooms - 5/5 - Can't go wrong with fungus. 7. Chocolate Cake - $14 - Had peanut butter, banana mousse, and vanilla ice cream. Delicious. Check out my photos. It is a Michelin rated restaurant for a reason. Will we be back?
