Had a private event here and so missed some of the view and scene, but were well taken care of and the wine drinkers had solid advice from the sommelier. Tartare starter was excellent but greens were just greens. And mozzarella and ham was just sort of a big pile - but good. My halibut was delicious but a bit over and the pasta alla vodka was visually unappealing and a bit too spicy. Folks really liked the chicken. Highlight was the sides. Mushrooms were amazing and risotto was delicious. Asparagus - yum. Could have just had sides for dinner. Desserts were ok as bread pudding with fruit sorbet and coconut didn't totally work. Reserved a window seat for our anniversary and was so excited ($125/per person). We are greeted and seated - given water and menus and just taking in the views. Our waiter comes over and is quick, curt, seemingly annoyed, and took our experience from a 10 to almost want to leave!! No personality and was more of let's get u served and out of my table kind of attitude. He said more than 3 times I will get get ur order start to finish and I said more than twice we want to take our time and enjoy the experience, he was not happy with my response both times and just repeated what he had said. At this point my husband asked for the manager and he come over said he would ask him to slow down. We said no we want another waiter - this is our night and it was going down hill fast! Finally another waiter comes over and it goes much better. Now for the food we had the Royale and I have to say everything was delicious except for the table side it was good but the crab claws that followed were late so by the time we ate the pasta it was a lil chilly which was a let down. But all in all the food was what helped the evening. The drinks were amazing I loved the infusion of herbs! For me after $900 service should be impeccable they are there to make ur night great, explain the courses and just be there for you! Nice vibe--less stuffy than I had expected and with a great view of the city--lots of natural light and an upbeat atmosphere with good music. After wandering through the lobby and realizing the front desk with "monarch" on it was for us to check in (the first check in) and get some sparkling wine, we walked down to the elevators to head up to the 49th floor. It was a bit confusing which elevator to use, but we got up there just fine and didn't have to wait long. After we made it to our table, we started off with a couple of drinks (and Old Fashioned for me and a spicy something-or-other for her, with mezcal) to go with the bread and appetizers (wood-fired meatballs and some kind of mozzarella and arugula salad--both were great--they added this other little bread pocket thing that they recommended we slice open and fill with the salad, and that was fantastic). For the main courses we had scallops and filet mignon, and both were tasty and were plenty to fill us up after the other courses. After coffee, we had no room for dessert and headed home, but not before we noticed how positive and...um...fashionable?...the whole experience was. Given the substantial light and contemporary soundtrack, it wasn't what I was expecting from a steakhouse downtown (what with the "dark cave vibe" most of them seem to aim for) and we'll definitely be back. Perfect for date night!! Everything we ate was so good and tasted really fresh. The view is gorgeous! The ambience of the restaurant is nice also. We enjoyed our sommelier recommendation and he was a joy to talk to! I forgot his name though, sorry. He calls me, says they won't let him up. I speak to the manager who says, "her hands are tied and there's nothing I can do but happy birthday." I try to explain that none of this is listed on their website and I'm already seated! She's literally ruining my birthday dinner. I look around and see men wearing jeans. Women wearing very revealing clothing. I've been there many times and seen men in shorts! So it's not like they don't ever allow them! The kicker is: the manager herself is wearing shorts while she's explaining this BS not-written-anywhere policy!!! Also, they changed the seafood tower so now instead of open faced crab legs, it's crab salad. I only learned that cuz the server told me in passing (it was not updated on their printed menu). Dining at Monarch was the most amazing experience from start to finish and if I could, I would rate it 10 stars! The food, ambiance, service, and experience was one of the best I've had in the Dallas area. You're greeted with a glass of champagne to accompany you on your way up 49 floors where all the magic happens. My husband and I went for dinner on a Monday night and the place was still busy and lively. The views from the top were AMAZING as you can see all of Dallas from up there. We didn't get a seat next to the window but you can still get great views from every seat in the restaurant. We were celebrating our anniversary so they came by with another glass of champagne for us to toast with. I ordered The Duchess ($18) as my drink which was really fruity and good. We also ordered a bottle of albarino which as fantastic. The sommelier was super friendly and very informative of all the wines they have in-house. They also bring out complimentary bread & butter, olives, and some salami for you to nibble on while you peruse the menu. Everything on the menu looked and sounded so delicious so it was really hard for us to narrow down our choices. We ended up ordering the Texas Wagyu Carpaccio ($22) and the Crudo ($25) for our starters. The wagyu carppacio was super tasty and the black truffle and horseradish crema was the perfect flavor combination. Highly recommend! The crudo came with salmon, tuna, and hamachi and was super fresh. Also an excellent choice! For our entrees, we ordered the Lobster Spaghetti ($65), Bronzed Sea Scallops ($44), and Bistecca alla Fiorentina ($140). The lobster spaghetti was served in the whole lobster itself and there was plenty of lobster meat. The pasta itself was a tad bit on the bland side but it was still tasty and super creamy. The sea scallop dish came with two scallops and two arancini balls. For the price of the dish, this was a bit underwhelming for only two scallops since the flavors were really delicious and we wanted more of it! The bistecca alla fiorentina is the 40 oz. porterhouse and was cooked to perfection! This was such a show stopper; presentation, taste, and all! We also ordered the side of oven-roasted oyster mushrooms which were also really delicious. As full as we were, we still made room for dessert. We ended up ordering their chocolate cake which has peanut butter, banana mousse, and vanilla icecream. It was so decadent and rich and the perfect ending to a perfect meal. This place is absolutely amazing. If I lived in Dallas I would definitely come here more often! This restaurant is located on the top floor of a hotel. Before you even enter the elevator, they have a booth set up giving patrons, regardless of appointment or if they just wanted to check it out, a complimentary alcoholic drink. I headed to the restaurant using the elevator. The entrance area is a bar with a lounge. Unfortunately reservations were full for dining area when I went. However they told me I could sit at the lounge area and get full service. Lounge area consisted of low sofas with low tables. The waitress was great, very knowledge and very friendly. She was pretty efficient. I loved the starter bread- absolutely amazing. Furthermore, pinky ring was a very sweet alcoholic drink that I loved. Black truffle risotto was absolutely delicious! And it seemed like actually a lot after having all my starter bread. If you were lucky enough to be near the window, the view of Dallas is amazing as well. Visited Monarch this evening for a birthday dinner. This place was jam-packed even for a Saturday and was very loud, so if you're easing back to normalcy and aren't into crowds: you've been warned! To the food: we started with the fritto misto which was a good portion to share, though light on seasoning for me. The shrimp scampi ravioli was delicate and flavorful and I heard raves about the bolognese. The dover sole was a bit light for me, but my companion who ordered it cleaned her plate. Overall, thumbs up on the food! The service was friendly but background experience could have been...better? We updated our reservation from three to four, but when we arrived we were led to a table set for 3. We dined here for an anniversary dinner and had a great experience. We arrived and hung out at the bar for a bit while waiting for our table. The cocktails and views at the bar were amazing. I particularly liked how they texted us to let us know our table was ready so we could close out or tab and get seated by the hosted without being interrupted during a conversation. The ambiance is great and not overly dark or loud like many of the newer "it" spots in Dallas. Having a conversation was possible and seeing your food was too. We were seated at a great window table in front of the kitchen area (where the charcoal grill was cooking some of the meals!). We got everything except for the veggies for appetizers (who needs veggies!) and were delighted by it all. We got the fritto misto, meatballs, prawns, and the crispy cacio. All were delicous. The prawns were perfectly cooked and were the highlight of the apps. Throughout the evening we tried the sovereign, the spicy lady, the what she said, the diamond noir, and the secret garden. All were delicious. I particularly enjoyed how the Diamond Noir changed with each sip - it had a cab float on top that blended in more with each sip. The Secret Garden was super refreshing and light. Highly recommend spending some time at the bar sampling various beverages. For entrees we dined family style and got the cacio e pepe, the shrimp ravioli, the lobster spaghetti, and the filet. The decor was beautiful, but honestly, if you're not sitting by the florida ceiling window to see all of Dallas...the experience of being on the 49th floor is just "okay." Now - the FOOD. We felt like a lot of our food was served very luke warm, as if it was sitting out long, but the only dish that came out warm was the FRITTO MISTO. We ordered a variety of things. The FRITTO MISTO - probably one of our favorite dishes of the night. The calamari & shrimp were tasty! The CACIO E PEPE - was not impressed at all. Was kind of sad about it because I LOVE CACIO E PEPE, and this dish wasn't that tasty. Just tasted like noodles. I feel like it needed more cheese, more oil, something. The OXTAIL CAPPELLETTI - this dish came out cold. Also, where's the oxtail? Was it supposed to have oxtail? The shredded pieces barely had texture, so I couldn't tell if it was all mushroom, or actual oxtail too. The COMTE CRUSTED FILET - again, not really warm, filet was good, but didn't wow us. The DRY AGED RIBEYE - I was truly excited about this dish, and it was extremely salty. It was cooked to perfection, but the moment we tasted it - salty. This week, I was able to dine with my wife at Monarch. I made my reservation a couple weeks in advance and would recommend you also reserve your future visit. It was easy arriving at the location with valet parking and we were welcomed with champagne once inside the building. It's a quick trip to the 49th floor where we were greeted and sat at the bar for a few minutes. Our table was on the left side of the restaurant and I would highly recommend you ask for something on the right side to enjoy the smell of the wood fired ovens and the city view. Also the bar at the center of the restaurant near the staircase has a much more comfortable relaxing feeling. The service and the meal were awesome. With many options on the meal, we selected a couple appetizers and both a fish and pasta dish for the main course. While this is one of the nicest restaurants in Dallas, don't expect anything too inventive from the Monarch. I'm not sure where to begin. This was the most amazing dinner my husband and I had in a very long time, possibly ever. Our server, Bryan, was very knowledgeable and helpful with suggestions. The food was so delicious. We shared the crab leg special that was in a spicy oil/garlic butter sauce (I'm not doing it justice but it was unbelievable), the wagyu filet, truffle risotto and asparagus. It was all presented perfectly well and each bite better than the last. The somalier was extremely helpful and actually steered us toward a bottle of wine that more than $100 less than the one we were looking it, which was a refreshing change from most places who only want to upsell you. The ambience is spectacular. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and had a table by the window with gorgeous views. We will definitely go back here again!! read more

I will try to make this brief, but good lord... Monarch did NOT disappoint! From the moment valet took my keys, I was swept off my feet! *** Upon entering The National Building, you're greeted with a freshly poured glass of champagne and escorted to black velvet ropes, leading you to the elevator which will take you to the 49th floor, where Monarch resides. *** ＴＨＥ ＶＩＥＷＳ are unmatched!! And every single member of the staff assures you're well taken care of. *** I don't think you could possibly go wrong with anything on the menu and I tried a lot of stuff The house-made bread and butter are to die for - served with marinated olives and a cured meat that I can't remember the name of (salami??) Where the Grass Grows was a perfect cocktail to kick off the night, highly recommend! I tried carpaccio for the first time... WHY AIN'T NOBODY TOLD ME 'BOUT DIS DELICIOUSNESS!?! The Caesar Salad ... it was so damn good! Had a hint of lemon...man!! The Spicy Lady was a unique cocktail, also tasty. Ain't gonna lie...that first sip caught me off guard...wasn't actually expecting spice ‍ Short Rib Bolognese...I basically licked my plate. We won't get into the details DESSERT lemme just give you the description straight from the menu bc this shit was FIRE "Fire- roasted lemon olive oil cake, heirloom citrus, grand marnier, star anise, ricotta ice cream". The food was the best part of Monarch was the food. The hostess were also very professional. But, our waitress was awful. Well, she treated the surrounding other people of color subpar. But, the none people of color, were treated very well. She totally ruined the experience. 1. We were greeted by our waitress with a happy anniversary sign. A quick scan of the room, other tables had a stand to place this sign on. Not us, we got to hold it in our hands like, what do I do with this, it was a kind gesture but her delivery left a lot to be desired. 2. Other tables we offered bread, given menu suggestions, she did none of that. I don't know it was a special occasion and I wasn't happy with the level of service received. read more

Finally made it out to Monarch for a friend's birthday this past weekend. I've been to Kessaku several times and have been very impressed by their overall service and hospitality and monarch was no different. We were seated in a nice booth for a party of 4 by the window (didn't have to request this btw) and our server James was warm and welcoming as he greeted the birthday girl by name in our group and handed her the custom printed menu which was a very nice and personal touch! The service and attention continued throughout our night as we were consistently checked upon and drinks were always filled up despite a full restaurant on a Saturday night! We were also very impressed with the food, the house focaccia to start with was delicious and buttery. The Tiger prawns appetizer was beautifully cooked and complimented by a fantastic sauce without overpowering the protein. For my dinner, I went with the south Texas antelope which was again beautifully cooked and paired with a nice sauce. The Carajillo coffee cocktail was a very good one and a nice change from the usual espresso martini. Sticky toffee puffing was yummy as well. Celebrated our 1 year anniversary dinner 49 floors up and it was the most perfect night! The ambiance was amazing and my boyfriend got me the custom menu as a keepsake. So many waiters were sweet and congratulating us on our special night as they would serve us food and drinks. The service was impeccable and our waiter gave us many great recommendations.
