Ok, yes I've been here several times for dinner but this review is for their happy hour. Pros: complimentary champagne. Great views (especially at this hour) stellar food. Still got busy and had great vibes Cons: limited happy hour menu, definitely felt that supplementing with something from the main menu was needed. Reservation for happy hour was at 5:15 on Friday. Yes, I know it's early but HH only goes until 6:30 and I wanted time to get drinks lol. We got promptly seated at a gorgeous window table and ordered two martinis. My sister and I already knew we wanted the seafood tower so put in an order for that right away. With oysters, jumbo shrimp and crab legs I was super happy with the tower- and $35 price tag. After the first martini we knew we were going to need something more substantial so we split the bolognese which was enough to even have some leftovers. I thought the restaurant would be empty at the 5 o'clock hour but was surprised with the number of patrons there. Everyone was dressed up and ready to start the weekend. Now you know when you are going to monarch you are paying for the experience and view so it's not going to be cheap but this was such a fun way to have a night out. I recently visited Monarch in Dallas with a group of five for drinks and dessert before heading elsewhere for dinner, and the service we received was shockingly unprofessional for a fine dining establishment. From the moment we told our server that we were not ordering full entrées, his demeanor completely changed. He immediately became rude, dismissive, and visibly annoyed. His facial expressions and tone made it very clear that our table was an inconvenience to him. His attitude throughout the entire interaction was terrible--there was an excessive amount of sass and condescension in nearly everything he said to us, and many of his comments were highly unprofessional. Things escalated further when one guest mentioned she planned to share an appetizer for the time being. The server abruptly snatched the menu from in front of her, saying, "You don't need this then," which left our entire table stunned. He also rushed another guest who hadn't had time to look at the menu, repeatedly pushing pasta recommendations even after she clearly stated she didn't like pasta and was looking for something light--very obviously attempting to increase the bill rather than provide thoughtful service. He never offered refills on our drinks, acted inconvenienced when we asked for extra dressing, and generally behaved as if every request was coming directly out of his paycheck. When we asked him to take the cake back and cut it, he said "sure thing" and walked away. It was another 15 to 20 minutes before he checked back at our table, and we had to remind him to take the cake back. I don't know his name, but he was a tall, bald white man with glasses. His attitude, lack of professionalism, and overall treatment of our table were unacceptable. Multiple people at the table told me not to tip at all due to the service, though I still left something. We also made the bill easy--everything went on one check except for a single salad and tea. Monarch has a reputation for fine dining, but this experience fell far below that standard. Hospitality should not be conditional on how much a table spends, and no guest should ever be treated this way. read more

Had the absolute most romantic dinner ever! I visited here for my anniversary and they did not disappoint. We did make reservations for the window seat and there is a minimum fee per person, totally worth it. Everything was perfect. The food, the drinks, the service. We decided on Monarch to celebrate our anniversary because we have always had outstanding food and service from Monarch. They customized dinner menu to say Happy Anniversary to us which made it special. The 3 star review reflects the food that we had. It was an extremely odd meal. The Frito Misto app was overseasoned and salty, we overlooked it and kept with our dinner. Then when we got to the main courses--We sent ALL of our entrees back to the kitchen. Our medium rare Ribeye was overall tough (I couldn't even fork it)...only the 2 pieces in the middle were somewhat tender. The ravioli and mushroom side were so salty that it was unpalatable. Again, very odd quality for a place that had been serving outstanding meals since its opening. Our server and manager were accommodating and re-made the food and comped the steak. It's always nice to get out to the city! Monarch was a treat! Upon arrival, there is valet parking for your vehicle and then you check in at the front desk. They give you a glass of champagne as you take the elevator up to the 49th floor. Once up top, you check in with the host. We were taken to our table and you can see all of downtown Dallas. I went here post work for drinks with friends and don't know how this place hasn't hit my radar before. They have wide selection of drinks but you can request anything as a mocktail which I greatly appreciated. You do need a reservation for entry unless you want just bar seating which is very limited. The views were stunning. It's a 360 of the entire downtown. The ambience was immaculate and the service was incredible. They have a sushi restaurant upstairs which I will be back to try out. Located on the 49th floor of the National building, Monarch offers breathtaking city views and a fine dining experience that is unparalleled. The interior design is beautiful, creating an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. The staff is always very pleasant, adding to the overall exceptional experience. I've visited Monarch many times for dinner, but this was my second time coming for Happy Hour. The Happy Hour menu selection is limited to three items, as shown in the attached photo. We tried two of the three items: the Seafood Tower and the charcuterie board, both of which were delicious. The Seafood Tower includes three jumbo prawns, three oysters, and a truffle king crab salad, accompanied by sauces and bread. The Salumi e Formaggio is a charcuterie board with cured meats, cheeses, nuts, grapes, and apricots. Upon arrival downstairs in the lobby, you are greeted with a glass of champagne to kickstart your experience. We also enjoyed the lemon drop cocktail from the Happy Hour menu. Our server, Courtney, was incredibly sweet, bringing dessert with a candle for my neighbor's birthday and making small talk with us. We also met the GM, Brian, who was very nice and checked in to ensure we were enjoying our time. Monarch observes a strict dress code, which I appreciate. One person was underdressed, and they provided a sport coat for him to wear. We visited on a Monday when it wasn't very crowded, but I presume things pick up Wednesday through Sunday. I've been on a Friday around the same time, and it's a very lively crowd. Valet parking is $10 plus tip. Upstairs, there's a Japanese restaurant called Kessaku, offering a panoramic view of the city. Monarch is the sister restaurant to Maple & Ash in Scottsdale and Chicago. Overall, Monarch continues to impress with its fantastic views, delectable food, and outstanding service. I chose this place to celebrate our 8 years of wedding anniversary, while the food was phenomenal, our experience was underwhelming. The valet service is $10, which they only take credit/debit and no cash. It was pretty nice, they opened the door for you and you walk up to the building. Upon entering, there is a complimentary champagne prior to boarding the elevator. The gentlemen operating the elevator is nice and personable. I was scared with the elevator though because it felt shaky. Upon going upstairs, it felt crowded yet festive. It was dark, romantic and intimate. The host was very nice, she offered a coat check. We were served by Jessica and I was not crazy about her service at all. She gave us the impression that she dislikes serving us. When my husband asked about the menu, she insisted that she explain the drink menu first. The whole interaction was just dry and there was no warmth through the night. But when we saw her interaction with the next table, she was all bright and excitable. We are not sure what it is about us that perhaps brushed her the wrong way? The food were amazing. We would just go back solely for the food. We split a turbot and the ravioli and both were phenomenal. I also had the martini with absinthe on it, It was good and strong. My husband got the pinky ring and he liked it as well. We finished the evening with a panna cotta desert which was delicious. The bathroom looks phenomenal, if you go to the very last stall by the wall, you will have a 49 story view all to yourself. We then went upstairs to view the observation deck. We would come back here solely for the food, but not to celebrate anything special. I was irritated because when I made the reservation, they asked what the occasion is for, so I answered it. However, they did not do anything to make it feel special at all, not even a greeting. It just felt like a regular dinner night, with a server with a bad energy. So, why ask what the occasion is for when you don't plan on doing anything about that information. Everything would have been a five star, the server just really docked the rating to 1 which is why I am rating this a 3 star. Hummus-one of the best I've had. The bread was perfectly crispy and was a great addition the hummus. The veggies were fresh and were a great compliment, just a great way to start our meal. Filet-tender and juicy. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was accompanied with a great sauce and some mushrooms. Great choice by the wife. Black Truffle Rissotto-this is a very rich and creamy dish, and from what I see it is also one of their specialties. It's not very big, but it's packed with yummy goodness. It's gooey and goes well with your entree. Momma's Spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka-Wow! What a pasta dish is this. I loved the bite of this pasta, the sauce provided a very nice kick, and the creaminess of the sauce also soothed the palette. It's not huge, but enough to fill you up. Boy did we have a time last Night!!! Gorgeous atmosphere, Good Vibes, and Exceptional Food! This and more is what you will find at The Monarch. In celebrating the birthday of one of my close friends, she made reservations for 8 at The Monarch. From the time you step into the lobby til you leave the 49th floor, everything was top notch! As we were escorted to the 49th floor, the elevators opened to a dazzlingly intimate wonderland. White linen dressed tables adorned with wine goblets, candlelight, and up tempo music playing in the background; I knew this was going to be a treat! For appetizers we had the Spanish Grilled Octopus in a Almond Romesco sauce that was so tender, you could cut it with a fork!(No easy task, I promise you). Wood-Fired Meatballs that were mini spheres of jam packed flavor, swaddled in a tomato crudo and topped with fresh basil. The Fritto Misto honestly, the most beautiful play on ALL THINGS FRIED, I have ever seen!(And it tasted amazing too!) Crispy Calamari, Shrimp, and Delta Smelts with fresh herbs and a pecorino aioli. Two of our party had the Heirloom Beet and Prosciutto & Buffalo Mozzarella Salads. The heirloom salad was embellished with bullseye beets, frisee, goat cheese(that was incredibly silky) pecans and chamomile vinaigrette that made the beets simply bloom on your tongue. The prosciutto & Mozzarella was hearty, without being heavy. Peppery arugula and crispy rosemary enhanced the richness of the salty prosciutto and added texture to a simple, yet tastefully complex salad. For our main course; a 45 day aged Tomahawk and Bistecca alla Fiorentina Porterhouse Steaks(both prehistoric in proportion, but so lovingly executed; you could literally taste the care and respect this animal received A.D.) Fire-Roasted Lamb Chops(baby you could have ordered this dish DOUBLE Well Done and it would still taste UNBELIEVABLE) Whole Maine Lobster Spaghetti( the spaghetti was just the right side of al dente, served with THE WHOLE LOBSTER!! Plus, chile de arbol; that was stellar!) Fire-Roasted Lasagna Diane(honey, this is the end all to be all lasagna! When I thought the appetizer meatballs could get no better, they had the NERVE to layer them in between pillows of pasta sheets, ricotta, and a cheese crust! Heavenly!) Atlantic Turbot( a seared, meaty white fish that was accompanied by a Osetra Caviar Zabaione that was absolutely DECADENT!) But Wait...There's More! Dessert!! Tiramisu with a Quenelle of Bailey's and Coffee Ice Cream(one of the most fun presentations of this classic dessert I have ever seen! It was even studded with Gold Leaf). Toffee Cake Pudding(an individual skillet of Coconut Shortbread, Bourbon/Toffee Glaze and Coconut Ice Cream, that stopped all conversation at the table! It was that good). Panna Cotta(Bocconcini sized panna cotta that was as lavish in flavor and texture as any Gelato(Yes, I said it! GELATO) Individually crowned with Honey, Caramelized Figs, and Aged Balsamic, an Almond Tuile for crunch, wine reduction and Yogurt Sorbet!) The reason I will no longer be able to justify giving meals five stars, Monarch Dallas. The restaurant is a luxurious experience which starts the second you step out of your car. The doors to the lobby are opened for you and walk in to a champagne greeting. You then make your way to the 49th floor. Upon checking in with the hostess we sat in the bar lounge while waiting for our reservation time. A bar server brought us a menu and after ordering our espresso martinis were brought out very quickly. Our table was tucked in a corner of the restaurant, which gave a private and romantic feel. Our server came over and immediately we knew this was going to be special. Mykal was unreal. His presence, his guidance, charm, wit. He truly made a very special meal that much better. We decided to go with the Royale and a wine pairing. Before we begin the royale review, we were brought the most delicious wood fired focaccia bread. Paired with a whipped ricotta and honey, mixed olives, and house cured salami. Truly if the bread is this good... First course was fresh oysters and caviar. The oysters were fresh and crisp, paired with a trio of sauces. I opted for the cucumber mignonette which perfectly complimented the oysters. The caviar was served traditionally with the most light and airy crisps, Bellini, egg, chives, and crème fraiche. Each bite of the caviar was truly an experience. The second part of the first course was Waygu beef carpaccio and a trio of crudo. The Waygu carpaccio was remarkable. Again, the flavors complimented each other so well. Lemon, arugula, black truffle, horseradish atop a warm brioche. The thoughtful ingredients cut through the richness of the waygu. This was the best carpaccio I have ever had the pleasure of eating, and I do not say that lightly. The crudo was a trio of hamachi, salmon, and tuna. Each was topped with shallots, capers, parsley, and lemon vinaigrette. The next course was seafood, which began with warm Alaskan King Crab. They were presently beautifully and ready to eat. The meat practically fell out of the shells it was so incredibly tender. The sauce was a tomato base with their perfect amount of spice. And just when we thought we made it to food nirvana, a table side flambé crab pasta was up. The table side show was quite the experience, but did not upstage the wonderfully creamy, Al dente home made pasta and crab. The final main course was a tender and buttery filet which was prepared so well it just melted in your mouth. Along with it was a truffle mashed potato, and charred asparagus. If this were not so incredibly good I am not sure I could've continued eating. Truly something so simple to be so memorable. The finale was a moist, dense yet light and airy chocolate cake. The cake was layered with a banana mousse and topped with caramelized bananas. Each bite had the right amount of sponge and chew. My only regret was how full I had been to not eat more of this. We had a wine pairing with our meal. And while I do not consider myself a wine aficionado by any means, it was amazing to see how the selections truly complimented each course so well. As you can see, and if you've made it this far, I cannot quite put into words how amazing this meal was. Seriously if you are able to get a reservation and have the royale, I cannot encourage that enough. First, you are greeted with a glass of complementary champagne as you check in downstairs. From there, you take the elevator right to the 49th floor and are quickly greeted at the hostess stand. We started with the Moscato d'Asti and the Diamond Noir cocktail. We got the woodfired meatballs as an appetizer and absolutely loved the sauce, mixed with a little Bufalina mozzarella. They also serve housemaid fresh bread with a honey whipped ricotta that was fabulous. For entrées, we ordered the short rib Bolognese and spicy rigatoni pasta. I lived at The National building for right around three years and I ate at Monarch once a week. The octopus is exceptionally good and the overall meal is always fantastic. Taking clients there and dates and just enjoyed the atmosphere and bar and you can't beat the view. Top notch in every aspect. The ambiance is spectacular and not just because of the view. It's very classy and elegant. The food is very tasty and the portions are very reasonable for a high-end restaurant. So are the prices. The service is excellent as well and not snobby like many other high-end restaurants.
