I'm the kind of person who would rather pay more for a good meal, than pay less and get mediocre food. The Monarch clearly provides a good meal, in a facility with great ambiance. In Dallas for the first time in many years, I searched for this kind of dining experience and found it at the Monarch. Greeted by a friendly and accommodating staff, I explained I was a solo diner without a reservation. Fortunately for me, they weren't too crowded and I was able to secure a white linen table next to the window which provided the view they are famous for. Water was promptly provided, and I was soon greeted by my waiter for the evening, Ignacio. Dressed most elegantly in a very professional looking suit, he went over the menu with me and answered my questions. Although they have a very nice selection of Italian dishes, I'm a sucker for game and ordered the venison, with a side of Black Truffle Risotto. As I was waiting for my meal, Ignacio served me a wonderful humus dip with parmesan chips. The dip was creamy and accentuated with Texas (!) olive oil. A great compliment to the dipping chips. I had a little further discussion with Ignacio about the Madera jus for my venison and suggested to him that the Chef could probably make me a reduction sauce from the jus as I feel that jus is too thin for the venison and a smooth reduction would provide a more appropriate coating for the venison. He promised to see what he could do. Soon thereafter, the main event. The venison arrived accompanied with the risotto and a thickened sauce. All were good, but at varying ends of production. The risotto was piping hot (most appreciated) while the venison, ordered medium rare, but cooked a little more than that, was more on the warm side. My thought was that the venison waited for the risotto to be done before being served. And the jus became thicker not by being a reduction but rather by the addition of cornstarch. I think I know why, making a reduction requires more time and attention, which I'm sure is why a tenderloin, that would greatly benefit from a reduction sauce, is served with a jus. As far as the venison was concerned, it was super tender and most pleasant. I would have put less peppercorns on it, yet it was a great partner for the risotto, which came out creamy and stayed hot throughout my dinner. The risotto seemed a tad salty for my taste, which was probably due to the abundant amount of cheese in the rice. Nevertheless, I would recommend Monarch to anyone seeking a good fine dining restaurant. read more

For appetizers, we ordered the Crispy Calamari and a Caesar salad. The calamari came with a sauce, and it was so good! The Caesar salad was very fresh, and the dressing was amazing. I personally ordered the Filet Mignon for my entree, and it was excellent! It was cooked just right and had lots of flavor. I will say that the portion sizes of all of the entrees were very small so you will need to order a couple sides to get full. For sides, we ordered the garlic whipped potatoes and green beans. The potatoes were very savory and had a nice consistency to it. The green beans complimented our entrees nicely. As for dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Cake. Absolutely Awful Hostess Experience - Left Without Eating I don't usually leave reviews this harsh, but the "welcome" we received at this restaurant on 8/31/25 (Labor Day weekend) was one of the worst I've ever experienced. We arrived without a reservation but literally made one in front of the hostesses on OpenTable for 15 minutes later. I even showed it to them. Their response? A snide, "For your information we use the website for booking." Excuse me? I did use the website. From that point forward, the young female hostesses (with hair straight out of Edward Scissorhands) treated us with open disrespect. While we waited, they made comments about a party member's attire not meeting the dress code. Meanwhile, I pointed out over a dozen men without jackets happily seated inside. Their smug answer? "Well, they're seated already and you're not." The double standard and condescension were unbelievable. It didn't stop there. When we asked about a signature, widely advertised dish, they snapped back that they "told us in the beginning" it wasn't served in the main dining room. No, they absolutely did not. But instead of helping, they doubled down as if we had made it up. For the record, Efrin the manager and our server were incredible--they tried to salvage the evening, and I genuinely appreciate their professionalism. Unfortunately, the host stand is the first impression of any fine dining restaurant, and these hostesses were a complete disaster. The disrespect, arrogance, and lack of basic hospitality were so abhorrent we walked out without eating. That should tell you everything. If the management cares at all about this restaurant's reputation, they need to seriously retrain or replace the hostesses who worked that evening. If you want the best view of Dallas you can find it here at Monarch - right from your table or even from the last stall in the ladies room (i hear same goes for the mens). The view was amazing and it was a tasty meal, but I wasn't quite wow'd. And for the price of this restaurant you should leave saying "wow!" While getting ready I realized I forgot to pack nice shoes, jewelry and a purse for my casual Thanksgiving week in Dallas. I realized they had a dress code so wasn't sure my new balance sneakers would be well received, but fortunately there were no issues when we were seated. I was just a little under dressed in comparison to the rest of the Vegas like crowd. Our waiter was friendly, but just seemed like he was trying too hard at first when we asked him questions about the menu. And while we ordered a ton of food/cocktails for our party of 5 he seemed a bit annoyed when my sister in law and I asked for some lemon water to end our evening. We shared a lot of menu items so got to try it all. Nothing was bad, but also not particularly memorable. I think the bread and butter may have been my favorite part of the meal! I am not even sure where to begin, We had a team dinner there with one of our vendors at work, there was 10 of us. Nobody wanted or had to ask for anything, this team literally read all of our signs and kept us fed, and drinks filled without going out of our way to ask. I had one of the best paper planes I have had in quite some time, I then tried their Sovereign high I may or may not have tried a few more times. I have been wanting to try Monarch for a while and I jumped at the chance when an opportunity presented itself! Arrived to the lobby area where they greet you with a glass of champagne for the elevator ride which I thought was a nice touch. The restaurant itself is beautiful, huge windows and a panoramic view of the surrounding area. Tons of patrons and all seemed to be having a great time. We were seated and received excellent and attentive service throughout. Our server was very knowledgeable and was able to tell us the background and interesting facts about each dish. The Sommelier in particular had some fun stories to tell about the different wines and the appeal of each. The area I felt was less than expected was the food. It was all good for sure, but nothing stood out to me as great. We were served family style and the first challenge is that none of the hot items actually came out hot. They were all served much closer to lukewarm which I feel isn't ideal for this type of setting. It is clear that they are using great ingredients, but none of the dishes came together for me in a memorable way that they have in other restaurants. The Steak had a great sear on it and was a high quality cut, but could have used more seasoning. The Branzino was dry and the Rigatoni did not have a depth of flavor that I would expect. The Seafood Tower was a hit with huge crab leg sections and Prawns with a selection of different sauces. The Bread was a highlight as well, super tasty with a phenomenal crust and incredibly soft interior. We came on a non-busy night and was seated fairly quickly. Despite torn seats, the restaurant's aesthetic is adequate. But you would expect better seating coming from a classy restaurant. Now, onto the food: - Fritto Misto Di Mare (9/10): Impressive calamari dish with perfect seasoning and a hint of spice in the redish orange sauce. My wife is not a big calamari fan, but she really enjoyed this appetizer, which speaks for the quality of it. - Momma's Spicy Rigatoni alla Vodka (8/10): Excellent texture and flavor, a satisfying pasta with a semi-spicy vodka sauce. - Texas Wagyu Striploin (8/10): Well-cooked, quality steak with a char and balanced seasonings. So fun, however, this may not be good if you're afraid of heights. Though you may able to sit away from the window and it may be okay. Our reservation required a 250$ deposit which was required to spend on the dinner, the food is pricey but really worth it. I got the filet from the regular menu and it was phenomenal. Super well priced. My husband got a more premium cut of meat and that was also amazing. Zero complaints, completely recommend. read more

Once seated, the atmosphere quickly revealed itself as more flash than substance--a scene straight out of the "$60K millionaire" playbook. It's clear Monarch is more concerned with appearances than delivering genuine hospitality or culinary excellence. The food? Deplorable. Every course--from the appetizers to the mains--fell embarrassingly short of expectations. For a restaurant boasting Michelin-led chefs, the execution was amateur at best. Bland flavors, uninspired presentation, and zero attention to detail. This was supposed to be a memorable celebration, but instead it felt like a cautionary tale. Monarch is a textbook example of a restaurant trying to be upscale but failing miserably. The hype does not match the reality, and the price tag is laughable given the experience. Everything seemed to be cooked in or topped with butter as wel, even the crudo. Unfortunate for such high grade seafood. Also because we put dairy-free our reservation. Another important note, they do not do room charges to The Thompson. Service was the best part of the meal, although I did let our server know we did not like the spiciness and she didn't avoid it for the next course. Ambiance was very Dallas. Getting off the elevator, you're right in the middle of a very busy and crowded area of folks waiting to be seated, eating in the bar area, and going back and forth to the restroom. Can be a bit overwhelming at first. We were sat down at our table at the window with an amazing view. They made a souvenir menu for my SO with his name and a birthday wish on it. Very sweet. Our waitress was very nice and casual, which was very relaxing. She gave us some recommendations and also some space to discuss. We started with Fritto Misto. The seafood was cooked perfectly, and the sauce served was delicious. However, I did find it to be a tad on the salty side. For the main course, my SO and I ordered both the Fire Roasted Lasagna Diane and Whole Lobster Pasta to share. The lobster was cooked perfectly. However, the amount of actual pasta served with it was very small compared to when we've ordered it in a prior visit. The Lasagna Diane was very good with a unique presentation. The presentation made it difficult to serve one's self without spilling it all over the table. So, we had to be careful. Most likely will not order again. For dessert we had the Toffee Cake, which was very delicious and almost on par with Gordon Ramsey's toffee pudding at Steak. The food is okay. If you're wanting Italian that is on another level, I recommend Lucia or Osteria il Muro. This is more of a place to be seen, which is fine if that's your schtick. read more

Monarch was such a fun experience! We went here for our 1 year anniversary. Parking was a little challenging but once we got that figured out it was a breeze. We checked in downstairs and were given champagne to sip while we rode the elevator to the 49th floor. Then we checked in again and we're shown to our table. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable and helped us pick out our entrees and appetizers and desserts. All of he food was absolutely incredible and the views were just as good! The welcome drink is a nice touch, but we were waiting in the restaurant lounge for 20+ minutes AFTER the reservation time before getting sat. I don't think the host stand is very organized. After getting sat, we ordered around 9:50pm and were starving so we put in our full order. The waiter made up for the wait! We had Danby, he was great! Bread service, Octopus, carpaccio with the best bread, black truffle risotto and the mushrooms were all amazing! Highly recommend the lobster spaghetti. The filet was mid. I recommend Monarch to every person I know visiting Dallas! You're greeted on the first floor with a glass of champagne to enjoy on your ride up to the 49th floor. Then you're met with a kind staff who customizes menus based on what you may be celebrating that evening which I loved! The views up top are BEAUTIFUL. If it's cloudy, it feels like you having dinner on a cloud, and if it's clear out you get a great view of the city. For food, I really enjoy the lasagna! I get it every time. I also used to love the Brussel sprouts but I believe those are seasonal. I wish they'd bring them back. My boyfriend really enjoyed his steak and mashed potatoes as well. For drinks, the Diamond Noir is a favorite and for mocktails I highly recommend the Passionfruit mocktail. 10/10 restaurant. Great prices considering how nice of an experience it is. The meatballs and the veal chop were both over salted and over sauced. The ribeye was so full of fat, not caramelized, just fat. What an incredible dining experience in the center of Downtown Dallas! Ambiance - the restaurant is gorgeous! The views at the top of the city skyline are incredible. We were able to sit by one of the tables that has a complete view which was super special. The interior decor is very upscale and definitely fits the vibe. Service - let's start off with the fact that before you even enter the restaurant, you are poured a glass of perfectly chilled Prosecco for the elevator ride up. Such a fun start! Our server throughout dinner was incredibly attentive and did a great job of helping us determine what is/could be made vegetarian. Food - the food was simply exquisite! Drink: Pornstar Martini - perfect if you like a passion fruit drink that's a bit tart and not too sweet. App: Caprese Salad - one of the best I've ever had. The tomato's were so fresh and the pesto sauce was incredibly savory. The crackers were a nice crunchy touch! My husband took me here for date night and the views, food, drinks, and service were exceptional! We had dirty martinis and the Royale. Our waiter put on a show for us with the flambé - he even set off the smoke alarms! The meal was five courses and we were there for 3 hours enjoying it! Some courses were heavy and some were light to balance it out and every single item we were served was delicious! I cannot wait to come again and try other items on the menu!
