My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary dinner here on a Sunday evening. We booked a 5:45pm reservation, arrived by 5:20pm, and were seated around 5:35pm. Our server, Juan, was attentive and hilarious. Our waters were never empty. Food was delicious. We ordered meatball, prosciutto and mozzarella salad, shrimp scampi ravioli, and the risotto, with two mocktails, and chocolate cake. All of it was cooked very well. We preferred the meatballs and salad to the pastas but it wasn't due to any of it being poorly made. The ravioli had an amazing texture, I was not a huge fan of shrimp stuffing. The risotto was very good but too salty for our tastes. We'll be back. We spent about $185 (including tip/tax) for our 2 hour dining excursion. Without mocktails or dessert would have brought that down to around $150. We were seated by one of the best viewing areas. All night people were coming by to take photos. The service is fantastic due to their knowledge of food allergies and also just the charisma of our particular server. Everything we ate was cooked perfectly and the wait wasn't too long even though they were packed. When one of our ladies didn't like a drink, they replaced it with another option swiftly. I think if you want some excellent food with a good view and great service, this is it. I suggest the filet, mashed potatoes, and truffle risotto. Makes for a lovely date night. They recommend doing it family style, which we usually do anyway. We started with fritto misto. This was some of the best fritto misto we've ever had. We've even had it quite a few times in Italy and this dish was up there! It includes shrimp, calamari, and halibut chunks. The red sauce is chef's kiss! We also tried the John Dory, shrimp scampi ravioli, and whipped potatoes. The John Dory fish was on the dry side, so our least fave. Next time we'll try the king crab and branzino. The shrimp scampi ravioli and whipped potatoes were both very good. I'm a potato girl that loves good mashed potatoes and these were top tier. We ended our meal with the tableside tiramisu and it didn't disappoint. It's made like tiramisu should be....with very simple, high quality ingredients. The portion is large as well. My husband and I went to Monarch to celebrate our anniversary. The modern Italian restaurant is nestled up in the sky. Sadly, that night was cloudy, and we could not look out and see the beautiful night sky! This place was PACKED on a Friday evening. Especially, an evening with very bad storms earlier. The service here is okay. I felt like I expected more from a restaurant of this caliber. Our water glasses were frequently empty, and our server did not come by much to check in and see if we needed anything. However, the food was fantastic. We ordered the wood fired meatballs and the Prosciutto and Bufalo mozzarella to share. Both were absolutely fantastic and we would order them again! For our main entrees, we ordered the filet mignon, and the wood grilled branzino. We really enjoyed both dishes. I'd ordered the filet mignon again between the 2. Came here for Valentine's Day and my partner and I left feeling underwhelmed. For a Michelin recommended restaurant, we expected more thoughtfully layered flavors and at least one true wow moment. Unfortunately, there wasn't one. Service was polite but lacked the attentiveness and polish that should accompany a dining experience at this level. Servers should have enough knowledge and mannerism to deliver chef's intention to dishes. It didn't feel elevated just average. Im fact, the appetizers below average with saltiness and over seasoned tartare and carpaccio. We opted to pay extra for window seating, which we were happy to do. However, we were initially told it was $75 without clarification that this was per person. It ultimately came out to $150 per person, which felt misleading but miscommunication happens. The view is beautiful, and I understand Dallas doesn't have many high rise dining options. But a view alone can't compensate fo the experience we had at this cost. Given the Michelin recognition, I expected far more in both execution and service. It was $300 for a salad, steak, risotto, and 4 alcoholic beverages. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday because we had such a great experience the last time we came about two years ago. Back then, the whole evening felt elegant and intentional from start to finish -- the champagne upon arrival, the warm welcome from the entrance all the way up the elevator, and the level of customer service, especially from our waiter. It felt like a genuinely elevated experience, so naturally, we expected that again. Unfortunately, things have clearly changed, and not for the better. The first sign was when we arrived at the Thompson. There was no one there to greet guests or direct anyone, so we had to figure out where the elevator was and basically guess which floor to go to. That may seem minor, but it was one of those details that used to make the experience feel polished. The dress code also stood out. From the time I booked until the day of the reservation, I received multiple texts making sure we acknowledged it. And to be clear, I actually understand that. If a restaurant wants to present itself as elegant and elevated, it makes sense to want guests to match that energy. So we dressed accordingly. But once we got there, it was obvious the dress code was not being enforced at all. On the elevator, a woman got on with us wearing a snapback, an oversized jacket, biker shorts, and bedazzled heels. Again, no judgment, but after all the reminders, I assumed there was no way she was headed to Monarch. She was. Inside, we saw Jordans, t-shirts, baseball caps, and even a completely see-through dress. It made all those repeated dress code texts feel pointless. When we were seated, they put us at a table that could easily fit four to six people, which felt odd for a birthday dinner for two, especially since I had booked a couple of weeks in advance. The service was also lacking. Our waiter was nice enough, but spoke very low and very fast, so it was hard to hear them. On top of that, they would quickly walk away and then be gone for long stretches before returning. I had also let the restaurant know ahead of time that it was my girlfriend's birthday. They brought out a custom printed menu with her name on it, which was a nice gesture. But even that felt like a downgrade. The one they gave her looked noticeably cheaper than the one they gave me on my birthday two years ago. Smaller photo, less detail, no nice border -- just another sign that corners had been cut. As for the food and drinks, my girlfriend's French 75 was honestly the best thing we had all night. The lasagna was decent, but not worth the price. The branzino was cooked well but had almost no flavor, so we sent it back and replaced it with the salmon. When we got home and tried the salmon, it was incredibly bland too -- zero salt, zero pepper, no real seasoning at all. The risotto had decent flavor, but the texture was gritty and seemed slightly undercooked. The asparagus was fine, but nothing special. Overall, the restaurant quality, food quality, and customer service have all gone down. For the prices they charge, those things should be the baseline. Monarch - Summer 2025 Tasting Menu I've been to Monarch a couple times, and they continue to deliver one of the most consistently excellent fine dining experiences in Dallas. We went for the Summer 2025 Tasting Menu, and it was absolutely worth the splurge. We started with a welcome bite of dry-aged prosciutto with olive oil and two little melon balls. Simple, classic, and delicious. A fresh oyster followed (briny and clean), and then a foie gras-stuffed cherry that was unexpectedly incredible. It completely stole the show from its forgettable plate-mate. 1st Course - California Sea Bass: Served with uni, nectarine, whipped fennel, and chive blossom. The presentation was beautiful, but the fish didn't quite stand out. It relied a bit too much on the supporting ingredients. Not bad, just not a highlight. 2nd Course - Hearth Smoked Tomato: Now this was a winner. Hand-pulled mozzarella, basil emulsion, pink peppercorns, and grilled focaccia. It's rustic but refined, and the flavors worked perfectly together. Easily one of my favorite courses of the night. 3rd Course - Roasted Dorade: This was excellent. Paired with summer squash, "clams casino," and saffron aioli, it hit all the right notes--elevated seafood that wasn't overdone. Clean, flavorful, and well-balanced. 4th Course - Doppio Ravioli: Corn ricotta filling, topped with freshly shaved Australian winter truffle and chanterelles. This dish was buttery and decadent in the best possible way. The truffle added a beautiful aroma, and the pasta was perfectly cooked. I could've eaten a whole plate. 5th Course - Rosewood Wagyu Filet: A big, bold dish served with salsa verde (more like chimichurri), handmade orecchiette, and summer peppers. Every element of this plate worked together beautifully. I loved the herbaceous bite of the salsa verde with the richness of the wagyu. A lemongrass granita followed to reset the palate, though I almost didn't want to lose the flavor of the steak. 6th Course - Tropical Dessert: Coconut passionfruit gelato, mango, and a pizzelle cookie. Creamy, fresh, and really well composed. The mango at the top and bottom created a beautiful layering effect with the gelato. We also ordered two bonus desserts: the tableside tiramisu and the chocolate cake. Both were fantastic--rich, satisfying, and beautifully plated. Wine Pairings: The pairings were well chosen and complemented each dish thoughtfully. The Listan Blanco with the second course and the Grenache with the wagyu were especially good. The sommelier wasn't the most charismatic person in the room, but he knew what he was doing. Service & Atmosphere: Monarch nails the vibe being luxurious but relaxed. The staff was friendly, attentive, and well-informed. Our server was interactive and clearly cared about the pacing and experience. The dining room is elegant without being stuffy, and the views from the space are as impressive as the food. I will start by saying that Monarch is definitely a place to go for a special occasion. This place is pricey, but absolutely delicious! The highlight of the meal was the wagyu that we ordered. It was a special one that our server said would ruin steak for us, because now no other steak that we would have after would be as good. She was right, that steak was probable the best that I've ever had! I highly recommend their pastas too, especially the lobster spaghetti. The amount of lobster that you get in the dish is worth the price. And the one thing I hate about seafood pastas is how fishy the pasta is, but the lobster spaghetti had none of that fishy taste at all. It was an absolutely delicious pasta with excellent presentation, as they served it in the actual lobster shell. Last thing, the table side tiramisu is to die for. So fresh and decadent. That almost ruined tiramisu for me as well, as I don't think any other would compare. Definitely worth the $35. I'm so glad that I was able to go to a restaurant like this, probably one of the best meals I've had. And don't forget to ask for a table in by the window. I'm a wine snob and it was good enough that we had a second glass each. We tried the octopus (perfectly charred), and the prociuto with burrata. Amazing. We ordered two Old Fashioneds--one from the $15 Happy Hour menu and one with Woodford Reserve Double Oak--and asked for them to be smoked. Without any warning or communication from the bartender, my $15 drink was billed at $25 (a $10 markup just for smoke), and my family member's drink came out to a staggering $50. Charging $50 for a basic Old Fashioned is ridiculous and excessive, especially when I've had similar high-quality cocktails elsewhere for $18. The dinner service didn't make up for it, either. The steaks were just okay and nothing special, while the pasta portions were microscopic. Dallas has way too many amazing dining options to tolerate this drop in quality and hidden fees. Really disappointing experience at Monarch-my first (and last) time there. First, I apparently and accidentally reserved a "Happy Hour" table for dinner-my mistake intending for dining room/dinner reservation, but not at all clear on the website what "Happy Hour" reservation means-a small bar table. OK...that was my completely my bad. On check in, hostess said she could work us in for a proper dinner table-did not happen, so we took our seats at a small bar table and tried to make the best of it. Seated a full 30 minutes after our reservation, despite checking in 15 minutes ahead of time. First round of drinks-making the best of it... We ordered 3 courses; first was salmon/hamachi/tuna crudo and was really good. But then the wheels fell off. Server effectively disappeared; glasses (adult beverages and waters) empty for 30 minutes. After almost an hour from our order, 2nd (rigatoni) and 3rd (Strip Steak) courses served at the same time despite our request to sequence-rigatoni was room temperature and I suspect sat in the kitchen for some time before getting to our table, and "medium rare" steak was charred and cooked at least medium well. We left the food on the table; left the restaurant; and will not be back. Space is spectacular; views are even better. But this poor service from beginning to end does not cut it for Dallas high end dining. read more

We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and had high expectations given the restaurant's upscale reputation -- unfortunately, the food didn't quite live up to it. We started our evening near the bar for happy hour to enjoy the full experience. The beef tartare was fresh but underwhelming compared to others I've had around the city. The drinks, however, were spot on. Once we moved to our reserved window table -- which had a lovely view and elegant ambiance -- we were welcomed with a large celebration card featuring my friend's name. That was a really nice touch. We began with focaccia bread and meatballs; the bread was decent, but the meatballs were far too salty. We did, however, expect a complimentary welcome glass of champagne (something we'd seen mentioned in several reviews), but that never happened. Our server didn't add much to the experience and made us feel a bit rushed throughout the meal. For mains, we had the veal Parm, which was thin and pretty basic, though the side of mushrooms was delicious. The shrimp were tasty but nothing memorable, and the Caesar salad was heavy-handed with the dressing. The highlights of the night were the New Zealand white wine we chose, the gorgeous view, and the tiramisu we shared at the end. Despite the uneven service and average food, we made the best of it and enjoyed each other's company. Sadly, it's not a place I'd return to. read more

Went here for our wedding anniversary. The service was very good, but the food was not worth the money. The flavors of the appetizers and main dishes fell flat and left us with a lot to be desired. Heirloom tomatoes were regular tomatoes. Dry aged ribeye was disappointing. Shrimp ravioli was also disappointing. Skip this place for your special occasions. read more

our experience at Monarch was amazing! we visited for my wife's birthday, and I was even messaged ahead of time asking for her name to put on a personalized menu. the wait staff offered excellent service and gave me a tip to visit the restaurant's 360 roof view on the next floor up after dinner. the view of Dallas from 49 & 50 floors up was obviously beautiful at sunset and at dark. the food was so tasteful and I couldn't get enough! the leftovers were even as great as we remembered. we ordered the foccocia bread with whipped ricotta to start, with entrees of Momma's spicy rigatoni alla vodka and fire roasted lasagna diana, and a side of charred creamed corn. I left feeling like I had paid a very fair price for the high quality of the restaurant and the wonderful view. would recommend to anyone looking for a special place to eat! read more

We visited this restaurant on a Saturday at 6pm. Traffic downtown wasn't bad. Valet was the easiest option when it came to parking. The views here are fantastic! I highly recommend getting a window table. Way better experience wise! The food was amazing. I loved the beef carpaccio and blackened octopus. The scallops were unbelievable and the truffle risotto is an absolute must. The mashed potatoes were ok. I'd be fine with never having those again. The asparagus was good but didn't blow me away. Overall I really loved everything about this restaurant. The attention to detail by the servers and manager just added to the experience. I highly recommend coming in here for dinner! read more

This place is not good. I'm so sorry but someone needs to call the Michelin man to come take his recommendation back. The server we had was EXTREMELY nice. I'm not going to gripe about service people because I know they're trying their best and their job sucks especially on a busy Friday night. However the service was TERRIBLY slow. We waited OVER an HOUR for our food. When we got it I hated my steak and sent it back. It just wasn't good. My friend sent her lobster back too. The ambience is OK, but there is way better out there in Dallas. For instance, Drake's steak and dessert beats this any day. Rises soufflé is way better and half the price. I have no idea how they got the Michelin recommendation. Super overpriced, food was mid tier, service was slow, and the atmosphere was just OK.... Save your money and get a real steak somewhere else. read more

We went to the special Valentine's Day dinner. Everything is decadent, from the glass of champagne for the ride up the elevator, to the amazing views. The food was great for the most part. The crab add on was way too salty, and we love salt so it's takes a lot for us to say that. Our server was hospitable, the sommelier was good except the two bottles of wine he suggested were both over $300 a bottle. We were sat in an area that had constant traffic, so I took off one star for that. We were told during the reservation process that to sit in a booth right next to the window we would have to pay a pretty hefty upcharge. After dinner we went upstairs to walk around the indoor viewing deck. The view was beautiful and great for photo ops. Overall we would probably visit again for a special occasion. read more
