The hype is real. This place is 1000% legit. It was hands down the best pho I have had in Seattle or maybe ever. I took a sip of my broth and was so impressed that I just kept eating. I never even stopped to add basil or freshly squeezed lime or bean sprouts. I was hooked from first sip. I did go with the Miss Pho special which is a big bowl and I wasn't able to finish. I normally share my leftovers but I greedily hid my leftovers bc I didn't want to share the goodness with anybody. The fried tofu was delicious too. Crunchy in the outside and tender and soft on the inside. Perfection as far as it was seasoned and cooked. The service was good. And the place gets packed pretty quickly. With so many pho choices, Miss Pho stands out to me because of their offerings and their team. The first time I came here was on a busy mothers day afternoon and the place was packed. Since I was dining alone, I was able to get a seat at the bar. It took about 15 minutes for me to be seated. What I will say about the bar is that the wait for a seat is worth it. The stools at the bar are small and pretty small and uncomfortable to sit in. They also swivel, so be careful. The restaurant is clean and there is a yellow moped bike in there for decorative purposes. The bike is a nice touch for aesthetics, but it's also a bit of an albatross for me. Instead of the bike, they could put another table there instead to serve more customers. Just my opinion.... The popularity of this place had outpaced the available space. I was surprised at how small the restaurant is. There aren't tons of seats, which is what contributes to the long wait times in peak hours. Ok so the food, the food! I've been here twice and both times have been happy with my choices. I've had the beef rib pho and their special pho (can't remember the name). Both were great. The beef rib pho yields a lot of beef, and even though the meat is tender, you will still need the help of some scissors to get the meat off the bone. Their special pho, the one with the rich red broth, is unique in it's flavor and I really like how the broth hangs on to the noodles. Its a total flavor bomb and you won't need to add any additional sauces if you don't want to. The fried tofu was a nice yummy touch as well. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the salt and pepper shrimp. It has a thick coating of batter which when cold, was unpleasant to eat. They do not fry the fish in the traditional way that I have seen it before, so I was turned off by the dish. Not my favorite, but also not a deal breaker. I've been here twice now and there will certainly be more visits. If you haven't tried the garlic butter wings, it's an absolute must. If I were to ever visit alone or order takeout for just myself, I might even skip the pho and go for just an order of wings. I've had their Miss Pho Special and I believe it was well worth the price. I won't be getting it every time but if you want to treat yourself out or want to treat someone else to the best of the best, this is the bowl to get. The second time I visited, I had a regular bowl of pho which was also very good. Parking is a bit tough if you want to get a spot near the shop but the larger lot offers more spots the further away you venture. The staff forgot to bring out some of our order and I had to get up multiple times to get their attention. They were busy, but also just not looking in our direction. This time around, I got the Salt & Pepper Calamari, a regular Brisket and Tripe Pho, and the Pho Ha Noi. The calamari is super flavorful and perfectly crispy, with huge pieces of squid. Both pho broths were just right and they give you a lot of noodles and meat in my opinion! My cousin and I were given harsh glares from both customers and employees upon walking in to sign our names on the wait list- We were not** welcomed. Once we got in line to put our names on the list we were told to stand outside and wait for our orders, we tried to make it clear that we hadn't even gotten to speak to anyone yet and we were disregarded and told to stand next to the fish tank while they moved a table, then they boxed us in at the entry. We had to watch other people go past us and sign up for the wait list before us- when the table was finally moved I went to sign my name on the wait list whilst the woman who initially told us to leave interrogated my cousin about having an order, then told him it would be a thirty minute wait to eat. Pho sa te definitely felt fusion-y to me with the tomato slices and creamy and sweet flavors. I asked for spicy level 5 (their highest) and didn't think it was spicy at all. I tasted more of the sweet flavor than the spicy. There are a lot of flavors going on, so I didn't add any oyster sauce or sriracha (I typically do). We visited Miss Pho after seeing the pictures of giant beef ribs sitting in large bowls of pho, which made it seem intriguing enough to warrant a visit for a cold and rainy weekend lunch. I had read reviews about how packed this place gets and I can attest to the accuracy after arriving. While we were able to get seated immediately when we arrived a little after after opening, starting at around 11:45, Miss Pho really got packed, with several parties waiting outside for seats. Do get here early for best results. Miss Pho Special ($26) - The special includes a very beef forward tasting broth, enhanced with the addition of a myriad of flavorful herbs and spices, braised in the broth to bring out the deeply mellow and savory flavors. Quite fresh tasting with a beefy, sour tang towards the end of each sip. After trying the dish, I found that the beef rib is kind of a gimmick. It's difficult to eat in pho, since the periosteum, that cartilaginous sheath that covers the bone, glues the meat onto the bone so that it's very difficult to remove with just a soup spoon and chopsticks. Instead of eating cleanly, for the most part, you have to chew the meat off the bone. It's flavorful and somewhat tender, but takes much more work to eat than the rest of the dish. And let me tell you, the rest of the dish is great. Beef balls, cut up into wedges, enhancing the beefiness and also adding a bouncier texture. Thin pho rice noodles cooked with just a tiny bit of firmness, not overcooked or mushy. There's tendon, stewed until tender and gelatinous, with no tough portions at all. A couple of slices of beef tripe, crunchy in texture, carrying the flavor of the broth well. Several thin slices of tender beef brisket complete the meat portion of the dish. The dish is garnished with scallions and sliced onion - and also, for some reason, a raw egg yolk. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be mixed into the broth or eaten as is. It adds protein and richness, at any rate. The beef rib is a little too extra, but doesn't diminish how delicious this pho is, nor my rating. (5/5) Pho Sa Te Sai Gon, Level 2/5 Spicy ($19) - This dish is similarly fantastic. The broth is thick, rich with the taste of lemongrass, peanut, fish sauce, shallots, and other herbs and seasonings. At a spice level of 2/5, I could feel sweat dripping down my face, with a spice that didn't necessarily hurt the mouth, but instead burned the throat with every sip. Still, the spice level still allowed me to taste all the myriad other flavors in the dish, without being too overwhelming. The mouthfeel, filled with particulate matter, most likely crushed peanuts, almost reminds me of laksa. In fact, I'd say this dish almost tastes like laksa mixed with satay, sans the seafood flavor and a bit of sweetness. The dish comes with tender, thin slices of ribeye, that exhibit a lemongrass-like taste, almost as if they've been marinated for hours. There's brisket, meatballs, and the perfectly cooked pho, as with the other dish. Three slices of cucumber and three wedges of tomato inhabit the side of the bowl. Are these traditionally included in this dish? I don't know, but they do add some additional freshness. (5/5) Both dishes are, of course, served with the requisite bean sprouts, thai basil, and jalapenos. Overall, I left very impressed with what I ate at Miss Pho. The pricing is a bit on the high end ($60 after tax and tip for two bowls of pho is kind of ridiculous), but the uniqueness and quality make up somewhat for the price increase. The portion sizes are also substantial, with both of us leaving with bloated bellies and still having about half a bowl of food leftover. Miss Pho is not a place I would go to for an every day bowl of pho, but it's certainly a restaurant worth visiting for a special treat. Rich but not too oily broth, fresh rice noodles, and an amazingly kind and personable owner/manager makes this experience the best pho experience. Wow, we are glad we found this place on the way to Swansons. Tucked away in a strip mall in Crown Hill, Miss Pho is a must go pho restaurant that is better than other options in Seattle and the Eastside. The broth is very flavorful with spices and rich meat broth, however it is not too salty or oily. The noodles are firm so no worries of it getting too soft in the broth. They also have amazing spring rolls which is a good appetizer while you are waiting for your pho. Get there before the lunch rush that starts at 12pm. Else you're gonna wait 30 minutes for a party or two, or much longer for a larger group. There is both table and bar seating. read more
