I have a love-hate relationship with Microcenter although they have a great selection typically getting help in the store is a crapshoot. Sometimes I forget how crazy the place is on the weekends and how short staffed it typically is (and have The misfortune of ending up in a situation where like today I had to wait 45 minutes in line while they were to check out people and eventually abandoned my purchase to avoid being late for a meeting.) Want to make a return or exchange on the weekend pretty much forget about that as well I would not recommend on the weekends at all. When you walk into the store it is fairly well organized with aisles and individual sections for some of the major departments. The computers are in a section all of their own along with the monitors which is also nice that they have dedicated staff in those individual sections or departments. However getting help in the store any day of the week weather weekday or weekend can sometimes be challenging. Also the level of knowledge varies greatly from employee to employee. Sometimes I receive excellent help and suggestions from staff other times I feel like I know more than the sales staff. Overall it's a good store for computer needs with moderate prices and more than decent selection. read more

Walked in Micro Center today for the first time...paradise for computer dorks! After a quick walk around I told my boyfriend I preferred Best Buy, but he explained that Micro Center is for people who really know what they are looking for. Best Buy is more convenient for technotards like me, but they charge you more for your purchases. The boyfriend had fun admiring all the gadgets and wires while I enjoyed "Father of the Bride" on the big plasma screen in the back. In Chicago on vacation and two trips to Micro Center. Yes, two. It's not because they have a wide selection and decent prices, but because I bought the wrong item for some computer networking I was doing for my gracious hosts (accommodations). Exchange process was simple but slow. Not sure why it takes three people to assist a customer when there's a line but at least from what I overheard, the staff didn't try to rip the person they were helping. The things they were saying were words that would have been coming out of my mouth, had I been talking to that customer. The floor staff was hit or miss. On my return trip, one person was busy with a customer and the second, I came to find out was watching TV. I thought he was a customer because the entire time I was testing cables (that I was getting for the exchange) he never approached me, greeted me nor moved out of my way as I wanted to test the devices that were hooked up to the TV he was watching. It wasn't until I unplugged the device that he finally spoke up and asked if i needed/wanted any assistance. Piss poor customer service I have to say. As for my first visit, I don't mind being left to my own devices when I'm in a computer store as I know my way around technology - but finding staff hanging out around one of the terminals waiting for customers to approach them is also not a sign of good customer service. For the person who did assist me - I trusted him and bought the wrong item when I should have went online as I have a smart phone and double checked his information/suggestion. Or, did what I did on my return visit - take the equipment and physically test it with their already existing setup in store. Overall, it's okay as Micro Center's prices are competitive and they have just about anything you need as it relates to technology. However, customer service just needs to be improved. read more

I'm not a Techie type of person, but Micro Center is adequately helpful to find what I need based on my non-techie descriptions. Since the sales help works on a small commission, don't hesitate to ask questions if you see someone in the aisles. There's always a line at Micro Center at checkout, but the girl at the customer service counter pulled me over to check me out there. Jim was a great salesman, he helped me pick out parts for a computer, Jimi Built the machine. The Pump ended up faulty but they replaced. The manager Robert even matched the price of a more expensive pump to the one I paid for, as for some reason that pump did not work well with my system. They also heard I had taken an Uber there and back a couple times in this process and gave me an uber gift card. They went above and beyond for me and I really appreciated it. read more

As a follow-up to my previous review, Micro Center asked me to email them which I did - of course, they never replied. I've been without a phone since 5/28 and I recently (on 6/15) received an email about the status of the broken screen repair. Apple quoted Micro Center at an OUTRAGEOUS price and timeframe. "The cost of the repair is $504.99 + tax. Timing to complete the repair is 2 - 4 weeks. The repair will erase all of the data from the phone." THIS IS UNJUSTIFIED AND INSULTING! I will never spend money at this store again and I will never speak kindly of the company. What a completely frustrating waste of time! read more

As a former Best Buy management-level employee I can say, in my experience as a consumer, there is nowhere I can find more knowledge about computers and smart-homes/connected home than MicroCenter; Coupled with the willingness and desire to help. My husband and I have been here probably 20-30 times since we moved to Chicago. Tech is an incredibly rapidly-developing field. Something WILL go wrong at some point. Now I know the value of shopping locally. This sounds weird, coming from a direct competitor. However, personally I find more value in buying my tech from a smaller player who honestly cares to match me up with the correct product Notice I said that they have the best "value"; not price... Often. Not always. One could find it really, really used on eBay or from a questionable source. For my money, I want to be able to ask the person who sold it to me or their (seemIngly-endless) stables of tech gals&guys. TLDR; I prioritize my time outside work... family and friends. MicroCenter knows what they're talking about and they seem to want to be help. That's value to me at any price. And typically, MicroCenter is often the lowest price... Correction: They price-match! It looks like the original post was deleted, so just to explain: I bought a TV at Microcenter with delivery included. It was delivered with a shattered screen, which I only discovered after I'd paid to have it installed on the wall. At first, I couldn't get through the Microcenter phone system and couldn't get a response via email either. I had to go to the store myself and it did take a while, but Microcenter totally took responsibility for the situation, and my new TV works great and looks great installed on the wall. Most of all, I appreciate that Jonathan and the other folks there kept their word, which is all too rare these days. read more

The have an Apple products nook. They have a computer games and software area. They have a electronics section where they sell TVs, refurished computers, new computers, etc! They have it all. I prefer this place because its a no-frills zone. I know squat about computers but the staff is helpful enough to know that I dont either. They have a weekly ad that comes out showing you all the various special prices they have at the time. I picked me up a cruzer flash drive at an amazing price. Do not buy a computer from this company. They are either criminals or incompetent. I bought a $2000 laptop from them in August. It ceased to work in November. I took it to be repaired and was told 2-3 weeks. After 5 weeks I was told that they needed me to drop off the charger, which I did (why didn't they ask for that originally?) After a few weeks of me calling the customer service number and getting placed in hold numerous times for 10-15 minutes each time and never speaking to anyone, I was able to get a hold of someone by texting that same number. They told me after 2 months that they needed to replace the motherboard and it would be "5-6 days". After another 10 days, I called, was put on hold for 12 minutes, called again, was put on hold for 18 minutes, called again and finally spoke to Chris. Chris told me that he needed to talk to James, the manager about my repair and they will call me back. I am still waiting for that call. I am running out of patience. At this point, I have been without my laptop for over ten weeks, have been out on hold numerous times without speaking with anyone, have been promised my repair would be completed numerous times and I am still without my laptop. I have been totally gaslit by this company and I just don't know what else to do. There is either dishonesty or incompetence here; either way, I got a raw deal. My advice: do not buy from this company and if you do, don't trust what they tell you. read more

I consider this place my grown up version of Toys R Us. I get that same overwhelming feeling of being surrounded by "toys" the second I walk through the doors. It's located right across the street from Target, so sometimes I have stop myself from pulling in here after a Target visit. Dropped off my my Macbook Air for a diagnostic because the response on the trackpad was erratic. They came back saying I would have to replace the motherboard and it would run north of $700. Then they charged me $40 for the diagnostic. Got a second opinion from a local technician who concluded some water had gotten under the trackpad. Free estimate and $120 for the repair. The techs at Micro Center are either thieves or incompetent. read more

Repair department has been 80% of time very nice. Always a wait. That dept. seems a big under staffed. Sometimes, real bad. The check out lines are hit and miss. NEVER GET YOUR COMPUTER REPAIRED HERE!!! I brought my laptop in to get repaired, and the manager tells me they will get back to me within 3 to 5 days to discuss what needed to be repaired and break down the costs. A week goes by and I hear nothing. Okay, maybe they're backed up, they'll get back to me any moment now. Two weeks go by, and I start to worry. Have they even started on it? THREE weeks of no communication and I said enough was enough. I called them, only to find out that they HAVEN'T even touched my laptop! They started on it after I called to inquire about it. To make matters worse, I was told I had to wait another week for a part to arrive, and that when the part arrived, they would do the repairs that day. Okay! As long as I can finally get my computer back. That day comes and no response. I wait yet ANOTHER week, only to be completely fed up and called them, in which they tell me that the display is now not working. WHAT? I DIDNT BRING MY COMPUTER IN LIKE THAT! Telling me that i have to get a motherboard replacement, which was going to bring my repairs into the thousands, which is basically not worth it to repair. I went there and got my computer from them. Curious, I opened my computer myself only to find that the connector from the display to the motherboard was destroyed. THEY did this, and had the nerve to charge me for repairing it. Moral of the story? Don't give Micro Center your business, and if you can, learn how to repair your own computer. If you want something done right, you do it yourself. They wasted a month and a half of my time, and left my computer in a worse state than it already was. read more

Talk about bad customer service, sales manager freaked out over a broken 3d printer after I was told to go get a new one by multiple employees, come back and see the sales manager picking apart the return, saying it was damaged... the whole reason for the exchange, try to explain would not listen and kept coming up with excuses on user error... I dropped my computer off a month ago. It is under warranty, so I should have just sent it to the manufacturer, but I thought it might be a quick fix. What a mistake. There is no direct number, so I can't call to check in. I have to drive there, wait in line (during a pandemic no less) just to get an update. My husband went in 2 weeks ago and they assured him it would be fixed within the week and handed him a number to text for updates.
