Roman did a fantastic job fixing my receiver and improving some of the bad soldering. And we had a very nice conversation!

It's been over two years since I brought a pair of VTL MB-1250 amplifiers to Roman's shop. One amp was working, the other wouldn't turn on. He assured me that he could fix the broken one. He would use the working amp for a comparison. After six months passed, I started asking for my amplifiers to be returned. It took more than a year of asking and multiple trips to his shop, only to have him agree to return just the broken amp. He will not return the working amp I brought for comparison. I've lost a rare and costly amplifier, along with all the time I've spent trying to have it returned. read more

Dropped off an Onkyo amplifier, which had some functions I thought were not working. Roman inspected the unit quickly, next day he called me up and said no issues, working fine. I thought that was strange because some functions were not working. Brought unit home, then began to think the connections must've been the issue....and yes they were. Previously the speakers were connected to the rear speaker ports, when they should've been connected to the front or main speaker ports. I made the adjustment and functions in amplifier worked fine. Bottom line, Roman was correct; as soon as it was determined unit was working fine, nothing else needed to be done, so he called me to let me know. Definitely I would go back if I need any of my units serviced. On a side note, had a couple of chats with him, when I dropped off unit and when I picked it up, and Roman is very cool person to talk to, has interesting real stories. read more

yes, roman is a quirky individual, though he can be very talkative and sorta charming if you catch him in the right mood, but he's a capable tech and very honest and reliable. five stars read more

My friends and I have been taking our Macintosh equipment to Roman for many, many years! His work is impeccable. We have all been 100% satisfied. His knowledge of electronics far exceeds that of his "critics" in this forum, most of whom still don't know which hand to wipe their own backsides with. They complain about "rudeness," yet these are the same people who spend a week in some overpriced resort in Mexico and do nothing but complain to the cabana boy about the size of the umbrella in their margaritas. Roman is focused on THE WORK. It's not Social Hour, although conversations with Roman on topics other than electronics can be riveting affairs. Not that any of the fainting sissies in this forum, who complain so childishly, could ever appreciate the depth and breadth of Roman's knowledge of history, the arts, culture, and politics. To the Philistines I say, take your junk to a shoe maker for repairs, and leave Roman to the rest of us who can recognize, respect, and appreciate his true genius. read more

My experience was quite dreary sometime back in 2014/2015. After at least two back and forth attempts to get my receiver fixed, I gave up and found somewhere else to attempt to get the dirty switches/signal/processor issue resolved. I should've asked for my money back but my patience had run out and Roman Jr's fine (and by fine I mean rude and surly) disposition led me to just want to move on more than anything. It certainly worked out for them getting paid for ultimately nothing. I've recently learned from the folks at Stereo Rehab that shoddy electronics repair work is pretty commonplace and I should've done more research years prior. I was evidently too trusting of Audio Consultants' referral. I look forward to working with Stereo Rehab after years of having given up. read more

Unfortunately, Roman decided that his "diagnostic" fee wasn't enough when he realized there was nothing wrong with my equipment, so he decided to charge me 3x as much upon pick up. Beware. read more

I sent Roman my dead MBL 610D Reference Preamp and he diagnosed the problem within a few days as promised and did the repair for a very reasonable amount of money. The turnaround time was faster than expected and the quality of the work was top notch. MBL is a high-end German Audio Manufacturer and he is only (1) of two in the USA. I highly recommend Roman for audio gear repairs! Sincerely David K. read more

Sent an REL Storm III plate amp to EE for repairs. In less than a week the amp was repaired beyond my expectations. Not only did Roman replace the faulty resistor(s), he replaced aging capacitors and repaired the power switch and associated light. Roman may be short with words, but absolutely long on quality of repairs. Thanks much, I'll definitely use EE again if needed. Dallas, TX read more

This place is amazing and the owner is extremely pleasant to deal with. He repaired my Pioneer reel to reel and it works flawlessly! Playing Several reels and I am impressed. I couldn't ask for anything better. I tried to fix it myself and couldn't and gave it to him in pieces. I highly suggest not or avoid to send him a machine in pieces, it makes it harder to work on. A.k.a Basket case! Please ignore other negative remarks by others. The owner provides a unique service and warrants his work and expects to be paid. Just as any other business. He has my full support and future business and spreading the word. read more

Beware! Complete ripoff!!! I've bought an Audio Research SP6 preamplifier (1970's vintage) and Dual 75 amplifier (1980's vintage), sent to Electronics Engineers, Inc. for restoration. Received my equipment back with broken preamp. MUTE switch. I've opened the unit for switch replacement and found, that absolutely nothing was done to preamp. The preamp. was not even cleaned, there was old dust all over the board and components, no signs of anybody even touch anything. The amplifier had 4 6550 replaced, but inside the unit same old dust!!! The invoice says both units were cleaned, soldering was retouched, bias circuits were fixed and tubes were rebiased. The total charge was $751.00 What I see is 4 new tubes(replaced old ones) in the amplifier. The tubes worth $150.00 and nothing else!!!! So here it is $751.00 charge for replacing 4 tubes!!!! read more

I've had a television, turntable, and now an integrated receiver repaired by Electronic Engineers Inc /Audio Video Repair. Each time, Tech Roman prepared a concise estimate explaining the required parts and labor for my repairs. I've been very satisfied with all of my repairs, because my units are still in perfect working order to this day. It's nice to see someone doing quality work; which they stand behind and can take pride in. read more

My Cambridge azur 840C CD player drawer stopped working. I checked with the manufacturer and they could not help me with the repair because it was out of warranty. I checked with a couple stereo shops around Chicago but even though they sell Cambridge products they do not service them, however Decibel Audio where I originally purchased the unit new from referred Electronic Engineers Inc on W. Belmont. The owner Roman took the unit in which they charged a $30 inspection fee and gave me a pick up ticket. After a few days he called me to let me know what the issues were and the cost of the repair. The cost was very reasonable and the unit was repaired within a week of dropping it off. Roman showed me the defective parts that he removed. The player works like new . I highly recommend this shop for hifi equipment repairs. read more

In working with Roman over the years I have found that he is a no nonsense person and one willing to give of himself. He does have to make a living as running a shop is not free. TERRIBLE! Here's what you need to know the owners name is Roman and his sons name is Roman. from the very get-go they were both extraordinarily rude and indifferent! You'll never believe this, I paid $60 to have my stereo fixed. When I picked it up, it hadn't been fixed I brought it back, they claimed this serial number didn't match on the unit and that I was trying to bring in another unit to be repaired and refused to repair it. This all happened because I told Roman Junior he had a bad attitude which she most certainly did! He didn't like that so he wrote down the incorrect serial number which I never checked and they never fixed it and I'm out 60 bucks! You can't make this stuff up! These guys act as if their KBG or something. Don't ever go there that's exactly what happened to me:( just terrible! read more

These guys ROCK! Have electronic issues? Bring them to Electronic Engineers! Fixed multiple things for me. Highly recommended!

Took my vintage Technic SL1200MK2 which the on and off knob came off. Initially I was under the impression that whole on and off switch needed to be rebuilt. I took it to this place, after I deposited $30 after a week or so I received a call from Roman, sorry but these guys are rude, very rude. The caller informed me that the on and off switch needed to be repaired (rebuilt) well guess what??? They only glued on the on and off knob, thats it! So they charged me $60 to place glue on a plastic part and re-glue it. I mean c'mon now, $60 freaking dollars for a $2.00 job sounds extremely rediculous to me... NEVER AGAIN! Please do yourself a favor.. DO NOT COME HERE unless you are willing to get ROBBED! read more

Even tho YBA advised this shop is their recommended repair facility in the Chicago area, I was scared to death to bring my beloved YBA Passion integrated in for repairs. Anticipated all kinds of horror stories, even the dreaded "Your unit is so old it can no longer be repaired". But no - Roman advised the issue was simply replacing some caps in the power supply as well as an encoder - common parts. Repairs were fairly quick given the need to order parts, price seemed fair (cash only) and the best part is the unit works perfectly now. Do not hesitate to take your higher end equipment here based on my experience. Very satisfied customer. read more

I truly wish I could write a good review because it would mean I got what I paid for. However, after two 300+ mile round trips to this "authorized" McIntosh repair service and $350+ later, I still had to ship my MR80 back to McIntosh Labs to have it fixed properly. My tuner wasn't holding a station and the touch pads were not working. After the first "fix" at EE, not only had the initial problem not been repaired but there were additional issues, including a broken and misaligned knob on the unit. After giving them a second chance at the urging of McIntosh, the unit still did not operate properly and they fixed the broken knob by moving to another position on the component and trying to fool me that they had repaired it. I agree with previous posters about the attitude of the owners and the poor condition of their shop. I cannot recommend this business in any way whatsoever. read more

I have never been compelled to write a review but after such an experience I feel obligated. I sent my Mcintosh pre amplifier to these gentlemen in december of 2015. I was told the repair to this item would take maybe 3 weeks, I made a phone call maybe twice a month, every month following the time I sent it to them. I was always polite and patient. I can't say the same for the business owner. He was always very short and not one to give a reason for delay other than "Im working on something else that's very important, give me another week" this routine went on until november 2016. I finally became seriously concerned about my item, which to me is a very expensive piece of equipment. I requested that they simply send me the item as they received it and I would look elsewhere for repairs. They agreed, they said it would take about a week to get it out. 3 weeks went by and I called, again, and I was told it hadn't been packaged for shipping yet. Keep in mind that these conversation on their end were never in a sympathetic tone. More as if I were bothering them and coming off unreasonable even given the circumstances. I finally asked my wife if she would like to make the trip to Chicago to get the piece of equipment and visit the city we had never been to...We live in Iowa. So, I loaded up my family and made the drive to the shop after almost a year of making phone calls. The shop had audio/video equipment laying about everywhere. The place was unkept and not at all professional. I made contact with a gentleman, I told him my name and what business I had there. I explained to him that I had just gotten out of my minivan from 6 hour drive to their shop. I reminded the gentleman of the circumstances and a quick summary of the events that had taken place over the course of the last 11 months or so. I received no apology or explanation. I was given my pre amplifier completely disassembled. I don't mean just the top taken off, but the boards inside all taken apart. Other customers were in the store listening to my story and took note of the mans reaction. One of the customers explained that he too had an item that was to be repaired long ago, a TV. Another was holding a car amplifier he said he was dropping off for repair but he had changed his mind after witnessing the over due confrontation between myself and these irresponsible business people. Alas, my family did enjoy the weekend in Chicago as we are not big city folk and it was a change. My piece of audio equipment is basically a total loss other than maybe being able to sell parts on ebay? That was my experience with this Electronic Engineers.....good luck. read more

Talking to them on the phone - don't bother. They are rude and do not care about customers! They must have enough work from big shops who don't care about quality or personality. Beware when you give them equipment they will not even commit to a time frame for an estimate. If you can put up with an indefinite lead time, rude/non existent customer service and like taking chances with expensive equipment this is your shop. read more
