With the sole Onkyo service center closing in the Chicago area, I was driven to find someone closer to home who could fix an HDMI issue where it took a long time for the receiver to seemingly warm up and deliver HDMI video/audio. Talked to a number of places nearby and they didn't do work on these lower end units since they weren't as serviceable but Anthony recognized the problem when I called him and said he'd take a look. After a week he assessed that the easy fix of pushing on the problem chip since that at best is a temporary solution and could actually cause it to fail. We agreed to give it another week for him to try to obtain a factory refurb kit (to remedy design flaws) from one of the closed service centers. He got the kit and he undid a kluge repair that the authorized service center had done a year ago to get the LED display back so that he could refurb all the flaws inside to factory standards. Receiver is in tip top shape. Cost me $240, but kept this heavy piece of electronics out of the waste bin and does the job at home. (and saves me the search to roll the dice on a new receiver). I have had Anthony fix two items. A Nitty Gritty record cleaner. It's drive mechanism was broken and Anthony fixed it perfectly. It has now been working just fine for over a year since the repair. I also had Anthony fix a 23 year old Convergent Audio Technology stereo preamplifier. Quite a few of the capacitors had failed. Anthony figured out which ones were bad, secured replacements, and put them onto the circuit boards. The preamp was totally fixed and working well, again. I will go back to Anthony with confidence. Had a turntable that developed a hum that I thought was caused by a ground loop. The shop is cluttered in a good way with lots of projects going on. Based on the gear I saw around the shop, they are handling a wide range of electronics. The staff was friendly and professional. They quickly diagnosed the problem as a breakdown in the onboard preamp and fixed it overnight. The cost of the repair was not trivial but a fraction of the cost of replacing a turntable I still like a lot. I recommend this place highly. read more

There aren't many electronics repair shops that aren't just cell phone and laptop repair shops. I had an electronic toy which was incredibly sentimental to me and wasn't stored nicely for decades after I left home. Upon being reunited with it, it would not turn on. I wanted to get it repaired, but I also didn't want to take a chance of it getting lost in shipping. I emailed Anthony and he said he could fix devices like this. I drove in from the far suburbs for the repair. The device was in very bad condition. There was a large amount of battery corrosion and some mold residue. Anthony communicated well through the process and treated it as carefully as if it were his own. His fees were extremely fair. He was able to repair the toy, although he said the internals were in very fragile condition. This toy went everywhere with me as a child - it was my companion in good times and my refuge and escape in bad, before we had better electronics for those purposes. Given as fragile as he said the internals are, I don't know how long it will continue to work. But for now, it turns on and I was able to hear its sounds, see its displays, and press the buttons. All experiences I haven't had in over forty years. Even if it were to stop turning on tomorrow, just the little time I've already had with it has been worth the price paid. I trusted Anthony's Electronic Repair with an irreplaceable sentimental item and he treated it with an incredible amount of care and communicated well with me. Most people likely aren't bringing him items of this amount of personal value - but given my experience I would trust him to fix anything else I may need in the future and highly recommend this little gem of a shop. read more

First off, this is the shop you want to keep around. He's got everything from knowledge, skill, honesty and parts. Anthony is real to the bone. I brought in a Sony receiver that had a fishy smell to it, and he fixed it within a week. I brought my old 1970s Garrard autochanger turntable in a few years ago because I wanted the automatic function to work. It wasn't a super high-end turntable but I liked it and it wasn't terrible either. I used it all through college. Anthony seemed like a decent guy when I dropped it off and spoke to him, and he was certainly very busy. He let me know it would probably take him a while to get the thing working right. That was fine with me, I could wait, as he came highly recommended. After about 10 months I gave him a call to get an update. He remembered the turntable, said he had done some stuff with it but hadn't got very far. I let him know I had another parts unit if he needed parts, which he said was good as he may need them. Unfortunately that's the last thing I heard from him. Never found out if he got it working or if he needed parts, or if it was a lost cause and he stopped. Eventually, after a couple years I went to Saturday Audio Exchange and bought a vintage Dual turntable that I like and that has a working autochanger. And really, it's a better unit than my old Garrard was. I'm assuming the Garrard was discarded long ago, I just wish he'd called me with some kind of update and let me know if it was too far gone or whatever. Maybe he lost the work order and my contact info? No idea. read more

I took my Sony Walkman here awhile ago in the hopes of getting it fixed. The cassette player did not work but the radio worked fine. I was told that there would be a $20 CASH charge just to look at it. After keeping it FOREVER, I was told that there was nothing that could be done to fix it, that there were no parts available anymore. Now I see why he wants cash, so you don't report him to the credit card companies. He didn't even look at it because if he HAD, he would have seen that the belt disintegrated and needed to be replaced, that the spindles that kept the belt in place really needed to be cleaned, that other parts needed to be cleaned, and that the heads needed cleaning too. But it was easier for him to steal your money for doing nothing than to actually look at your device and fix it. I had everything done that I just described FOR FREE by someone who actually knew what he was doing and now my Walkman is working like new! Stay far away from this rip off guy. UPDATE!!!!!!! 14 Jul 2023 Well I was waiting for the childish and ignorant response and as with others that gave him a bad review, he didn't disappoint. This is a TRUE and accurate review. 1) I was charged $20 for the estimate so as usual the owner is a liar! 2) If I declined the estimate that would mean that he didn't take a look at the inside so other than reading and copying what I wrote, he never looked at the inside of the Walkman. 3) I will be more than happy to provide the name of the NICE and Courteous GENTLEMAN who fixed my Walkman for free. He VOLUNTEERS at the Repair Cafe in Oak Park where very nice people give of their time and KNOWLEDGE to repair any item that you bring them......ALL FOR FREE. If they can't fix it, they recycle the item. The gentleman that spent over 2 1/2 hours on my Walkman did so without any complaint or ignorant attitude LIKE YOURS and he actually made it work again which is more than I can say for your lack of skills. You are nothing but a lying rip off con man who takes people's money for doing nothing all in the guise of an estimate that you never do. Stay away from this guy. My only complaint about working with Anthony is that I did not take a 'before' picture of my beat-up turntable to compare with the end result. I had an old Marantz turntable / receiver that had a broken tonearm, missing counterweight, terrible needle and the platter didn't even move - and those were just the things that I could see. In just a few days Anthony turned my junk into a working masterpiece. He had to improvise and build his own pieces in many places, but he did what I thought could never be done - he made it work again. I bought a pretty rare cassette player/radio off ebay that was advertised as working great. Long story short, it wasn't. Speakers were hardly putting out any sound so i started looking for a repair shop to take it to and after checking a couple out online i decided to take it to Anthony's to get it fixed up. I dropped it off and explained the issue to Anthony and went on my way. It took a few weeks but I understand that getting parts and doing meticulous electrical work on old and even newer units takes lots of time and was not upset about the wait at all. They also gave me a call whenever there was an update which I appreciated. Overall I paid $120 to get my cassette player fixed (audio circuit rebuild and other smaller issues) and I had no objections to the cost, I felt that it was fair and I also appreciate the work that these people do. I have no doubts that my cassette player will be functioning great for years to come and if I ever have issues with it or any of my other older electronics I'll definitely be bringing them to Anthony's. I ordered a used GE Washer Control Board. When i recieved it, there was a capasitor loose. I guess it got loose from shiping it to me.
