Talked to a number of places nearby and they didn't do work on these lower end units since they weren't as serviceable but Anthony recognized the problem when I called him and said he'd take a look. After a week he assessed that the easy fix of pushing on the problem chip since that at best is a temporary solution and could actually cause it to fail. We agreed to give it another week for him to try to obtain a factory refurb kit (to remedy design flaws) from one of the closed service centers. He got the kit and he undid a kluge repair that the authorized service center had done a year ago to get the LED display back so that he could refurb all the flaws inside to factory standards. Receiver is in tip top shape. Cost me $240, but kept this heavy piece of electronics out of the waste bin and does the job at home. (and saves me the search to roll the dice on a new receiver). When I dropped my phone and had a white line going down the screen, I filed a claim to have it fixed. I was expecting to have to go to an AT&T store, but all the uBreakiFix spots popped up as well. This spot is closer to me than any AT&T store so I came here on a Monday morning to drop it off. It wasn't busy, and after giving my phone number they were able to look up my claim and asked me to come back in 90 minutes. Used that time to get lunch (but was also sadly reminded a lot of restaurants are closed Mondays). I came back a little early and my phone was all set to go. Since it was via my insurance the payment just shows up in the phone bill. My only complaint was they put a screen protector on which I thought was nice, until I realized it was covering up the part of the phone you put your ear on - I was confused why my calls were so muffled. Still, not much to complain about! Obviously this is a unique scenario as I'm not just coming in with a random problem, and I assume my issue was a common one, but at least I can say they fixed my minor phone problem well.

I was told by Ray, the owner, that this repair shop used to be an authorized Akai Service Center. Well, when I tried to record on the unit after picking it up from repair, it would not record, and it was recording GREAT before I took it to Just Service. When I reported the condition to Ray, he said, "the heads are probably dirty again from you using old analog tape"; that's absolutely ridiculous since this happened while I was trying to record on the unit for the VERY FIRST TIME after picking it up from Just Service; NO TAPE had even passed through the head system yet! Now the unit is not recording, and the channel is dropping again. It's still under the 90-day service warranty but now I don't even trust Just Service to do the warranty work. This business doesn't even give you a repair ticket when you drop off your item; they will tell you, "We'll call you when its ready", They only take cash, probably because a Credit Card can be disputed if it's proven that the service was not provided. You will also not be allowed into the shop when you drop off and pick up your unit, supposedly due to Covid but more likely because they don't want you to see the conditions that your unit will be exposed to while it is there. Ray is a real tool and will talk to you like you are a piece of dirt on his shoe if you ask questions or dispute something that he says, totally rude and unprofessional. I live about an hour away, but I am going to travel out of my way to visit a trustworthy repair shop.
